The View

I really hate leaving negative reviews, but unfortunately there were too many issues during our stay, especially considering the price.

We booked for my sister and fiancé’s birthday because the remote location, beautiful views and dog-friendly setup sounded perfect. However, the property was very difficult to find with no clear signage on a 60mph road. Our rescue dog was also on edge throughout the stay due to the owners’ dog repeatedly coming into our area, and it even damaged part of our gate trying to get to us. On arrival, the outside furniture was tired and broken, and inside the property was not clean. We found old food, dirty cutlery, a filthy dishcloth, hairs in the beds and shower, used men's boxers under the dresser and old socks. We also only had two towels for four people, no proper bedding for the pull-out sofa and very little toilet roll, more loo roll was provided and bottom sheet for the pull out but no duvet or pillows covers when I called the owner but we had to drive to B&M to buy bedding. There were also several maintenance issues: the pull-out sofa was extremely uncomfortable and dirty, the shower was difficult to regulate and the tap dripped all night, the bathroom door didn't close properly, the hot/cold labels were the wrong way around, and we found glass on the bathroom floor. The water also cut off the following morning, delaying our plans while we waited for it to be restored. On a positive note, the views are fantastic, the location is peaceful and the hot tub was enjoyable, although it did need cleaning. We tried not to let the problems ruin our birthday celebration, but there were simply too many issues for us to feel the stay was worth the price. I hope the owners take this feedback constructively, as with better cleaning, maintenance and clearer information, this could be a lovely place to stay.

This place is absolutely gorgeous.

The views are amazing and it’s literally so relaxing and peaceful. The hot tub is so big and just amazing. The bed is so comfy and the lodge has everything that you need. We had a heat wave when we went so it was great to be able to also get some shade from the umbrella that is supplied. The owner Stanley and his dog Mose were great and he would come and service the hot tub daily. Will definitely be coming back.

The accommodation was perfect for us, as there was just myself, my wife and our two dogs.

The location was very quiet, and with a fantastic view. The accommodation had all the essential features in the kitchen, bathroom, and the hot tub. The lounge was very relaxing with two comfy chairs and a couch.

Beautiful view with plenty of places to walk the dogs on the doorstep. Loved the configuration of the cabin - nice big tv in the living room, and tv's in the dining area and bedroom. A larger, comfier settee would have been nice. Could have done with freezing facility in the kitchen. The hot tub was really good. Would come back and recommend to others

The site was perfect and Stanley on site was a gentleman, the place was clean and well thought out with a relaxing and peaceful view.

The site is a great country retreat that is a great place to go and unwind, we have already looked at when we can get back in the summer as it is exactly what you need every now and then. It would also be a great wedding venue and has massive potential to develop if he wishes to but as it is, it is still a really great place to be and spend time. The local area is quiet and peaceful with a local coop only a 5 min drive, we found it easy to cook at the Shepherds cabin called the view with great well thought out facilities and everything you needed. Plus if there was anything you needed I get the feeling that Stanley would do as much as he could to help, he is outgoing and a great guy and a local character who should be very proud of what he has achieved on site. We will definitely be booking again as soon as we can, hopefully we will bump into Stanley again and maybe even his very friendly dog Moss who was occasionally on site.

We've discussed with the property owner as no one has been more enlightening and eager to listen , As for Sykes its self, it's disgraceful what they charge for it's service, charges for moving a date , ridiculous and disgusting service

Last year we stayed at The Retreat and loved it.

This year we stayed at The View and loved it even more. The location of both of these are in a quiet part and perfect for relaxing should that be your requirement, or ideal should you wish to venture further afield. The View offers a central kitchen area with a seperate bedroom, bathroom and lounge. Outside there is a large decked area with hot tub and a lower graveled area with log burner etc. Our previous review on The Retreat goes into detail about local pubs, shops etc. We were fortunate enough to meet the owner on this visit and what a lovely bloke he is, he came to check we had everything we needed and were settled in. We love The Retreat and The View and will definately be booking our third visit next year, in fact next year we may book two visits at differenr times of the year. We had a truly memorable weekend here, the property was everything we wanted it to be.

Loved the hot tub, stresses of every day life melted away. Also loved the barbecue and outdoor areas. Tucked out the way with nobody around to bother us. We won’t hesitate to book again

We had to most relaxing, stress free break, the lodge had everything we needed and more, the views were amazing, it was peaceful and idealic.

We loved every second of our stay, stan was very helpful and gave us information on where we could take out dog for walks. We would highly recommend this place.

Lovely place, totally relaxing which is what we wanted.

Hot tub excellent, well maintained by Stanley who was a lovely host. Nice area, not too a far walk into the village where there is a couple of lovely pubs. Had Sunday lunch at the Royal Oak which was good.

.only absolutely brilliant loved every minute and Stanley so helpfull and everything u need on your doorstep will be going back soon..done a lot of stay cations in this price bracket and this is by far the best lodge..quiet, secure, private and the view is brilliant.Thankyou yet again Stanley and moss..

A lovely cabin in fantastic surroundings.

Stanley is great and helped when we’d left some things there, which we massively appreciated. The accommodation has some real positives: hot tub, ability to sleep 4, views, homeliness. But some things need attention: wobbly toilet seat and sink tap, a real lack of cutlery plus other kitchen utensils, lack of towels, the BBQ didn’t work and the kitchen rug looks dirty. These things didn’t affect our stay as it was short, but they would start to impact someone’s stay for longer. We would return due to the location, nearby walks for the dog and short distances to local amenities.

Lovely secluded lodge, very well presented, owner available for any queries or problems.

However, additional items in the kitchen would be useful. Extra chopping board, more cutlery, bin bags. Plus no information pack was provided & no wifi code even though there was guest wifi available. Just little niggles.

Had a lovely week , the cabin itself was very good very clean and comfortable, all fenced off so the dogs can not escape ,hot tub was excellent Stanley the owner came and serviced it everyday and made sure all was ok lovely man and very friendly surrounding area was great food in local pubs was great visited Wrexham and Ellesmere both very good

The view is a lovely place to stay.

Peaceful setting and lovely views! The View has everything you need and is very comfortable. The owner was friendly and welcoming and on the other end of the phone for any query which were sorted quickly. The hot tub is a great addition and it’s so peaceful sitting outside under the stars.

A beautiful lodge, with an amazing view.

The property was as described and the bed was the most comfortable we have slept in, in all our breaks. Stanley was a great guy, came every day to service the hot tub and we had some great chats. Just 2 recommendations, a freezer and the side blocked off to avoid small dogs getting out, but neither of these spoilt our stay. Would book again in the future.

Put simply it was our 2nd stay, Absolutely Loved it again, A personal choice this time to take our own Ice maker (we love ice in our drinks) but it made it an even better stay.

.. maybe a mini freezer would top it off there but I don't think we'd leave if we got too comfy there

Relaxing environment, beautiful scenery and very comfortable for 4 guests and 2 dogs over Christmas.

Had a lovely stay, Stanley was a lovely guy, helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, would happily recommend and will return The view from the accommodation is beautiful, all done to a great standard and just as described.

Location is fabulous for trips out in the area with a great pub for dinners few minute drive away. Plenty of room for 2 of us and 2 dogs - convenient walk along the old railway line at the end of the properties drive - perfect.

You have lots of privacy with the property, the location is great and as the name suggests the view from the hot tub is lovely! Sam was absolutely great to communicate with, really responsive to messages and just really friendly and pleasant. Will 100% come back here!

What a gorgeous place!

We stayed at The View this past weekend and we had such a lovely weekend! The cabin is beautifully decorated, was very clean and has the most amazing view that I could have just sat and stared at all day! Looking over the Welsh hills from the hottub was an added bonus! Every little detail was thought of by the owners and they even left a welcome package for us on our arrival, so we had milk, something for breakfast and for a cuppa, snacks and even some treats for the dog (which she greatly appreciated)
