Tressa, Tor Down Quarry

This is the second time, that we have stayed at Tor Down Quarry.

We are so happy with the cabins. The owners go out their way with little details, like little scones, cream and jam on arrival. They provide all essentials inc tea towels, bath towels, lamps, fans, extension leads and general things you require. The owners are very lovely people who are happy to help you with any problems that may arise. Definitely coming back again soon

Tressa was absolutely perfect.

Immaculately clean throughout. Well maintained, light and airy. Upon arrival we found fresh home made scones, strawberry jam and clotted cream waiting for us - a lovely welcoming touch. Kirsty was around but not intrusive. We could not fault anything and highly recommend this as a place to stay.

Equipped with everything, a warm welcome with scones and jam.

....even catered for our dog.....just perfect. The lakes and surrounding were magnificent, hot tub absolutely amazing. Just faultless.....loved every second at Tressa!!!!

Lovely cosy lodge, hot tub & area to stay.

Unfortunately the beds were a bit uncomfortable (mattress & pillows) & the tv/wifi wasn't great due to signal strength. Tricky with the area being a quarry but it would have been nice to watch some tv in the evenings. Overall a nice stay.

The surrounding quarry and lakes are just stunning (even in the rain) the accommodation was well equipped, warm and comfortable. Slight issue on night 1 which was sorted and compensated for immediately, absolutely brilliant hosts! And freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam on arrival! What more could you want. We will definitely be back.

The cabin was absolutely gorgeous and the location was incredible, lovely and peaceful.

Scones on arrival was a lovely touch. The only thing I would mention is that the beds are quite squeaky when rolling over to get comfortable and they aren’t the most comfortable mattresses, obviously that is all on preference so other than that we all had a lovely stay.

A wonderful setting and a really comfy warm cottage, it had everything we needed and more, bed was super comfy and the hot tub was an added bonus.

We had some beautiful sunsets and the colours of the sun setting on the rocks by the lake was stunning. We also had some wonderful clear nights and we have never seen so many stars it was beautiful and so calming to just to sit and star gaze. What a special place this is and we will be returning, we have three dogs and the endless walks around the quarry kept them entertained and exercised and also so handy for lots of days out. A lovely generous welcome pack of milk and home made scones with jam and cream was really appreciated when we arrived - thank you for a wonderful relaxing break.

A great place to getaway from it all.

Perfect for people who want to get away from the city, as you are set in an old Quarry. You watch rabbits and if you are lucky a Deer from your Window or the Hot tub. We liked sitting in the tub when it was dark as there is total darkness. The local Inn is a good 20 minute walk through the Woods or 30 if you go around, the food is great ( large portions) The house is clean and tidy the owner was very friendly. One thing you should be aware of is the road to the house is not to good if you have a sports car with a lowered suspension. If you want to do a lot of sightseeing then take into account that you are 15 minutes away from the Main roads, but you can to the north and south without a problem.

Having booked with Sykes many times, I have a high expectation for the standard of accommodation, specifically cleanliness.

The oven was filthy & pots and pans put away dirty. The kitchen drawers & cupboards were messy and unkempt, therefore giving a poor impression of the standard of accommodation. At £1000 / week for a 2 bedroom lodge, this is not good value.

Very peaceful and quiet place to stay.

Evenings spend in hot tub with amazing views. Lodge equipped with everything that's needed. Dogs enjoyed freedom of space. Very nice family fishing place.

The lodge is excellent with everything you could need.

The site is great, quiet and peaceful. It has two lakes onsite. The lower one is decked out with a communal area to sit out. The top one also has a decked area. The disappointing bit is that it was extremely difficult to access as it's overgrown and it does have two ladders if you want to swim, but also they are overgrown, the first one you can't even see it You just need to trim and tidy your bush Overall it is a 5 star place if the top lake was accessable

Excellent, had a lovely time here.

It was like a home from home. Cream tea on arrival, spacious lodge. Hot tub was hot! Our dog loved the rabbits and the freedom. Our google sat nav took us straight to the property. The final road up to Tresss is bumpy, it’s a quarry road after all. Minor issues .. no scissors or potato peeler, more bin liners would have been helpful, could the trees beyond the ‘green’ be reduced in height to allow an even better view?

We absolutely love it at Tor Down Quarry.

We have stayed several times and always enjoy the tranquility of the site, the space we have around our cabin, the lakes are stunning and there is plenty of wildlife to observe. Kirsty and John are terrific hosts, nothing is too much trouble and they are always looking at ways to make guests' stays even better. I have recommended Tor Down to friends who have gone on to visit and also love the place.

The property was superb and the level of cleanliness was pristine.

We had the opportunity to meet Kirsty and found her to be an amazing host. The location was stunning and we cannot wait to come back.

These lodges are perfect if you are looking for a quiet getaway after the stresses of day to day life.

There's only 4 on the site, which is idylic ( non of this over crowding of lodges and people). Our lodge Tressa, was ideal for us, it had a master bedroom with en-suite shower room. There was also a second bedroom with a double bed ( I found the matress quite firm and not that comfortable, but I think that is down to individual preference). And also a large bathroom.There was only the 2 of us and our dog, so it was more than big enough. I have issues with spiders particularly in bedrooms, so I always check under the beds, there was a couple of cobwebs but luckily there is a hoover in the lodge so not a massive issue. Besides the lodges are surrounded with greenery so you got to expect the odd spider. The lodge is equipped with everything you need. The radiators soon heat the bathrooms up to take the chill off at night. If you take a dog be sure to pack a dog bed. Dogs aren't allowed on sofa or beds unless you have a clean blanket to cover them first. There was some poop bags and also doggy treats left for us.❤️ Also as part of the welcome, there were scones (which were divine) clotted cream and jam, and also some milk. As mentioned before, there is a hoover, i also would have liked some form of mop. The hot tub was fantasic, and unlike many places we have previously stayed, we were able to adjust the temperature to our preference. Being in the tub under the night sky felt magical as you are in complete darkness ( if you choose not to have lodge lights on). The hot tub is very private. Now onto the view....wow. it is stunning. Each lodge has its own seating area. Ours was out front and it was everything and more to sit there in a morning, just listening to the birds and nothing else. There are 2 lakes that you can swim in or fish at, we did nether, although the dog did. You do have to watch the dogs as there are cliffs around, luckily our dog is scared of his own shadow, so doesn't tend to stray far. Lodge 4 is perfect if you want an enclosed area for the dogs. The owner Kirsty sounds lovely, as I needed to message her and she replied promptly, assisting me. The roads are quite narrow and windy, no problem if you are a confident driver. Although the quarry feels in the middle of no where, you are only a 30 min drive from some beautiful coastline and villiages/towns. St nectans glen waterfall is fabulous. This has been our favourite lodge yet and we will definitely be back.

A delightful lodge in an idyllic setting.

Beautifully appointed with very comfortable beds. Great to have the two bathrooms and the hot tub. We loved watching the rabbits and birds in the evening. All very relaxing. Access is up a short section of steep track. There are great local pubs and a community shop in the village. It is also very close to the start of the Camel Trail. Kirsty is very helpful and we too enjoyed the cream teas provided. We would definitely love to return here.

Another great holiday at tor down quarry.

This was our second holiday at Tordown Quarry we stayed in Tressa both times !

Such a lovely peaceful relaxing place we love the accommodation clean fresh and very welcoming Kirsty and John are great hosts they left us a lovely welcoming Cornish cream tea ! Our dogs were also welcomed with treats ! The grounds with the lakes are lovely and well maintained! And to top it all off a lovely relaxing hot tub! Will definitely go back again would highly recommend!

The accommodation is exactly as described, very comfortable and it has everything you need. The cream tea and milk for a cuppa was a welcomed bonus on our arrival, thank you Kirsty and family! Tor Down Quarry is a stunning place to stay and I hope to visit again with my family in the future.

Tressa was a very clean and well-appointed property.

It was a nice touch to have a cream tea on arrival and a bonus to have a newly installed hot tub within a few feet of the property. We had a lovely time during our stay and it is a very welcoming and relaxing place to be, even when the weather isn't great. Our two dogs loved swimming with us in the two fresh water quarries. We do not usually return back to a property but this one will be an exception. We look forward to returning, well done Kirsty and John A1 ☆☆☆☆☆

Beautiful, well equipped lodge in a fantastic location.

A perfect place to relax and watch the wild life. I would recommend taking binoculars. Kirsty is friendly, helpful and informative. The perfect host. Nearby Wadebridge is definitely worth a visit as is Polzeath beach, a great spot for a bit of sunbathing or bodyboarding and then the hot tub!! Perfect after a day exploring or swimming in the quarry pools. We will definitely plan another stay.

We had a fabulous stay here.

Kirsty made us so very welcome. The girls swam every day in the lakes. It was a great place to get away from it all with lovely views.

From the moment we walked in and heard the radio playing we felt at home in Tressa, it had everything we needed even a coffee machine (I'm always hopeful and pack some capsules).

It was so homely and comfortable and very nicely decorated and lovely quality blinds and curtains showing the care and attention which has been put into to it. Small touches like the hooks on the back of the door and the hooks for keys and the treats for us (scones, jam and cream and lovley cornish milk) and the dog (vension stick which she loved) on arrival made us feel so welcome and we honestly didn't want to leave. Being an open water swimming family we swam in both lakes and they were amazing, my husband caught some brown trout in the lower lake and we loved the view from the hot tub over the water. It's perfectly located for trips to the beach and we even cycled the Camel Trail all the way to Padstow. We are already looking to book again ❤️

We absolutely loved our stay at Tressa!

When we arrived we immediately discovered how peaceful it was. When we entered the lodge it was modern, clean and cosy, the pictures online don't do it justice. The radio playing and the cream tea was a nice touch and very welcoming. The hot tub was gorgeous, it is set in an old Smithy, I went in it just as the stars were coming out, it was bliss! The beds and sofas were very comfortable, the kitchen had absolutely everything we needed. Thank you Kirsty and family for an amzing stay, we can't wait to come back!

Gorgeous lodge in a breathtaking setting, definitely has the wow factor.

Lodge is a home from home, really comfortable and fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. The lakes are unreal, you have to see them to believe they are there actually for you to swim in! There are only 3 lodges plus the owners lodge in the whole quarry and each has plenty of space around it so there is a quiet, private feeling. The position of the hot tub looking out over the lake was perfect and we watched a bird of prey circling overhead while we sat in the bubbles. Kirsty the owner had provided us with a home made cream tea on arrival which was delicious and enough for several helpings! I can’t recommend this place enough, if you want somewhere a bit different, in a unique setting with all the comforts you would expect in a luxury lodge, then Tor Down Quarry is the place for you.

Best accommodation we have had.

This place is truly amazing.

When you see all the reviews about how well equipped is, it really is. Everything that you could ever need. The place is comfy, clean and the cream tea (including the home made Jam) that was waiting for us, was also wonderful. We cooked in most nights and it was very easy. Lots of herbs and spices left there. The lakes are just something else. We came with two boys and a dog and the lower Lake was easier to be use as its a gradual walk in. Unlike the higher lake that you enter by a ladder which is a little harder, however the higher one is very quiet and secluded with a lovely wooden seat to sit and look out. I swam everyday... it was certainly fresh but amazing once you were in. The hot tub over looking the lower lake was also very welcome after a swim. We walked the dog the mile to the local pub every evening. The walk takes you up alongside the river which is lovely. The pub was great and we were met by really lovely locals. We didn't eat there, but heard only great things. We will defo be back. Thank you again Kirsty for your great and very quick communication. Liz x

The holiday was amazing- the Quarry is stunning and so well looked after- Kirsty couldn’t do enough for us and was so welcoming- if anything the listing and the photos don’t do this place justice - wild swimming at the quarry was really the highlight for us but my husband and son also went fishing and kayaking.

There was also a fabulous pub in St Breward with amazing food and the village green has its own grazing horse ‘Zelda’. It was the best place for some R and R, to unplug and enjoy nature. Would definitely recommend.

We loved the property nice and clean nice decor had a good atmosphere when we walked in gentle music was playing.

It was well equipped especially with kitchen utensils etc overall was perfect for us even supplied dog bowls and treats. The owners were lovely very friendly ! The surroundings are beautiful such a very peaceful setting, hot tub wonderful and clean The quarry great for a swim I enjoyed a swim there so one from my bucket list! Our dogs enjoyed the freedom and the swimming . Overall a perfect week away hope to return again!!

Very quiet and peaceful☺️ we stayed there just for two night but that was enough to top up our battery

It was our first visit to Cornwall, despite the weather wasn't welcoming we have had a good time.

We had the most spectacular time at Tressa.

It was everything and more that we hoped for. We swam at least once a day and explored the Camel Trail. Kirsty was wonderful and despite being away herself was always at the end of an email. We cannot wait to go back and are hoping to return of the winter season.

The place was spotless when we first walked in and the owner was so welcoming when she came to introduce herself.

It’s an amazing place for a getaway.

When we arrived, the property definitely has the wow, factor beautiful surrounding, lots of wildlife, fishing was great, but top pool was hard to get too, but we'll worth the effort.

Kirsty and John, are so friendly, and welcoming, with two lovely boys. The onely negative side was the jacuzzi was down a little hill not by the cabin, and no decked area. But the village and surrounding area are stunning.

This was our second time in 3 mths cottage was very well equipped and very tastefully decorated the host Kirsty and her husband we great they were not intrusive but responded to any questions promptly .

The hot tub was a lovely way to relax in the evening our dogs were welcomed dog dishes treats and poo bags all there for our use. We would highly recommend these holiday homes and will be returning in the near future bringing family with us to hopefully stay in one of the other homes Angie & Graham Mason

We did not expect to have to run 50yards to access the hot tub.

More privacy in the use of the hot tub would have been appreciated. Overall, our stay was very enjoyable

Host’s we’re absolutely fantastic!

The cabin was lovely, and clean! The stay was absolutely fab! Only downfall is if you have a little car, the roads coming in ain’t to to good. And the walk from the hot tub at night in the cold (it’s not a far walk) it’s a minute max, but as you been relaxing in the hot tub. It’s freezing. But apart from them, we had the best stay. It had everything you absolutely need in the cabin also! Beds were soooo comfy, the showers power was absolutely amazing. All around 10/10

Outstanding hosts who provided first class accommodation.

Everything was perfect and there was even a cream tea waiting for us on arrival. Kirsty and John were so helpful and friendly, really keen to ensure that our stay was special and comfortable. Plenty of space around the accommodation ensured that it was lovely and quiet. The site was fascinating with two clear water lakes set within old quarry workings and with seating areas outside. We would certainly recommend this accommodation to anyone wanting a quiet location in a beautiful setting.

The dogs really enjoyed their stay too with the walks in the woods. We definitely got out work out for the year with the steep hill

A brilliant location.

Quiet & comfortable. Upon arrival ther was a cream tea waiting. The accomadation was clean, bright & everything was ther including dish washer tablets . The owners had thought of everything. Can't say how comfortable we were on arrival just to soak in hot tub & swim in lake which was all within walking distance to cabin. Top marks to owners for there attention to detail. Highly reccomend.

We had a great holiday.

The lodge was very comfortable with good facilities. The hot tub was a lovely bonus. Access to the site is a bit difficult but we soon got used to it. We loved The Old Inn, just up the road

The setting was lovely, really quiet and relaxing.

The lodge was well equipped and clean, we all loved our stay, my son especially loved the hot tub! We all went swimming in the quarry too. Can recommend the local pub The Old Inn for food but book in advance as it gets busy.

Tressa was set in a beautiful quarry and the surroundings were extremely peaceful and made for a lovely holiday.

The lodge itself was fantastic but let down by the most uncomfortable mattress in the ensuite bedroom. The mattress was very old and tired so I thick foam mattress topper had been put on top which was boiling hot and you rolled around like you’re on a marshmallow. My daughter was so uncomfortable she slept on the sofa for four of the nights. The mattress in the other bedroom was perfect thankfully as my mother has a terrible back and neck condition. The quarry behind our lodge was lovely to swim in. However the ladder installed to get down into the water rather than having to grab handles only had one which was not fixed securely and the space between the treads was very far apart and because you were holding your hands together in front of you when I tried to get in the quarry there was too much space between the treads and I fell very badly injuring my elbow arm and leg. I think a proper ladder with grab handles either side would be far more stable as had my daughter not been with me I would not have been able to get out. All this said if the ladder was changed swimming was an absolute dream in the quarry. I hope the mattress gets replaced had it not been for the lack of sleep I would without question book to return to Tressa as it was the most relaxing place to be. The most important thing with any holiday is getting a good. Night sleep and having a lovely hot shower. It always amazes me when people do not invest in decent mattresses. Please sort them out as we would all love to return

We loved our stay here at Tressa.

The accommodation was great, we could bring our dogs and lots of space in the property for us humans and them to lounge about. The property was well equipped and clean. Two good sized bathrooms as well was a bonus. The outdoor area was great and lakes were brilliant for swimming and kayaking. The entire property location was brilliant and if like walking, sightseeing it's a must to visit. We will absolutely be booking again. The pub in the village was welcoming and also allowed dogs in. Just book on their website and select you have dogs and they will seat you accordingly. Also recommend visiting Blisland near St Breward, nice little gift shop, pub and cafe. Beaches nearby are Trebarwith and Daymer but check the tide times before venturing down.

The lodge was very nice and well equipped with everything you might need.

The location was beautiful and lots of wildlife, we saw a deer by our lodge. The lakes were nice and refreshing and enjoyed the hot tub. The coast was 20 mins drive. The hosts came to say hello and we’re on hand with any help with needed about the local area. We didn’t want to leave, would definitely recommend.

So much more than we expected.

Everything you could possibly need to have a hassle free self catered holiday, even herbs and spices for cooking. Owners really helpful and friendly, nothing too much trouble. Beautiful, peaceful, idyllic surroundings.

We spent a week in Tressa at Tor Down Quarry and had a really lovely time.

The accommodation is well laid out and extremely well equipped. The location is simply idyllic and the ideal place to relax and unwind. We enjoyed many woodland walks, cycled the camel trail, and visited Port Isacc, Polzeath, Padstow, and Tintagel which were all just a short drive from Tor Down. There is a lovely walk to the local village pub which is super friendly and the food is great. Kirsty is a great host and nothing was too much trouble. The cream tea on arrival was a very nice touch and much appreciated. Highly recommended

An idyllic location, so quiet.

Amazing hikes over the moors from the doorstep, a few minutes from the end of the camel trail. 10 minutes from stunning coastline! Fantastic facilities and well equipped lodge amazing hot tub with lovely view. Plus 2 quarry lakes to swim or paddleboard in. I highly recommend this place! Our stay at Tressa, Tor Down Quarry was fantastic!

The accommodation was wonderful — very clean on arrival, with a wonderful treat of cream tea on arrival. The owners were exceptionally friendly, and the whole area with the two quarry lakes was great. Also, the Old Inn, just a mile away, is a great pub/restaurant. I would really recommend staying here.

Everything about the lodge was fantastic, beds were very comfy & the scenery was beautiful!

Spent a lot of time in the hot tub as it was great!! Very clean and met upon arrival by the very friendly Land owners!

Amazing accommodation, excellent facilities and beautiful setting.

We spent the days visiting an array of incredible locations, too many to choose from, and spent the evenings in the hot tub and eating dinner outside. Bliss. If it’s available for your dates - book it, you won’t regret it!

although in an out of the way quiet location Tor Down Quarry gives good access to North and South Coast.

Really dog friendly and owners very helpful, wildlife a plenty we had a Roe deer visit less than 20 feet away.

The lodge was in beautiful surroundings high above St Breward.

It had everything we needed including enough dishwasher tablets, dish cloth etc. It was bright inside and had lovely big doors to look out from. We will certainly return

! What a find. A beautifully equipped, clean and delightful lodge, where no expensive has been spared in either the furniture or the bedding, linen and towels. A delightful surprise on arrival, lovely homemade scones, jam and clotted cream. The setting is perfect for touring all of Cornwall, but being able to return to total peace. (there is only one other lodge) To sit and take in the most amazing view and sunsets. The two lakes are awesome and outside the lodge is wonderful for your dogs. The village is delightful and everyone is helpful and friendly. Great village store and pub. But, most of all, the owners are delightful.Kirsty and family are charming, welcoming and cant do enough for you. I highly recommend.

Fantastic location, the cottage had everything we wanted, and the hot tub was placed in a perfect setting overlooking a beautiful private lake which was an added bonus.

We visited many beaches along the north coast, plus Tintagel. The cottage has excellent access to Bodmin Moor for walks plus there is a pub in St Breward itself with great pub food and of course rattler cider a favourite. Kirsty and John were excellent hosts , super helpful and we loved the cornish cream tea that was waiting for us on arrival. A beautiful location with great access to the beaches on the north coast. We will definately be back.

Tressa is situated in a peaceful spot on the edge of Bodmin Moor.

. The quarries are stunning and provided us with wild swimming and diving every day, followed by a dip in the hot tub to warm up. Kirsty and John are the kindest, most generous hosts and nothing was too much trouble. We didn’t want to leave and hope to be back in the not too distant future!

Perfect peaceful location.

St Breward provided a super base away from the hustle n bustle but in the centre of all the things we wanted to do(1/2 hr to Padstow-camel trail and sea safari we got to see dolphins n kinky whale breath taking/Tintagel- searching King Arthur and coast walk to Boscastle spectacular/Port Isaac-Sea food fresh from the sea n Doc Martin's house /Bodmin Jail- Crime n punishment old style). We were given fabulous friendly welcome right from the moment we arrived we felt it was a home from home. We didn't want to be on a huge site and with just a couple of rental units it was ideal our neighbours were friendly and so the shared use of hot tub worked well we were there different times. We had the top lake to ourselves which was one reason for our choice Learning SUP so it was sheltered, safe and secluded. The Buzzards we're flying above and there cry could be heard before you saw them birds were skimming the lake for insects, there were lots of damsel flies and carp in the lake who were curious what we were up to. We booked late and although the outside isn't picture box cottage, I think the inside was perfect well decorated clean, warm and so well stocked with games, books binoculars I find it hard to think of anything else that would make it more perfect. Our local for the week 'The Old Inn' gave us the perfect traditional pub feel we ate here three nights because it was so welcoming, the food was very tasty ie Lamb shanks(super tasty), Steak(tender n well cooked), steak n Ale pie(well filled) and Mussels (great portion). All were all great it was hard to choose washed down beith a tasty Rattler. At the end of our stay we didn't want to leave and we will be going again I don't think a week was long enough.

A lovely cottage and in a totally peaceful location.

Lots of lovely walks and places to visit and explore. The owners were very thoughtful and very happy to help us if we needed anything and gave some wonderful recommendations for places to see and visit.

The owners couldn't have been more helpful and although there weren't any problems we felt that they would have been approachable is the had been. The cabin was very clean spacious and modern with plenty of room outside for the dogs to run around. This site was great for anybody wishing to explore Bodmin Moor and surrounding areas. I would thoroughly recommend and we are definitely thinking of going back next year. Top marks

Absolutely brilliant place to stay!

If you're up for being a bit in the middle of nowhere, with loads of places to walk and ride bikes and explore, but also close enough to a shop, pub and main attractions around Cornwall, I couldn't recommend Tor Down Quarry enough. Kirsty and John were lovely, very accommodating and the lodge was beautifully decorated, had everything you could possibly need and a great view over the countryside. The hot tub is just away from the lodge but overlooks one of the lakes and has a great view at sunset. The lakes on the property are beautiful to just sit and admire the wildlife in the sun or even try a bit of fishing. As a group, we really enjoyed our stay at Tressa and will most definitely be returning later in the year!

The lodge was situated in beautiful surroundings and was decorated and equipped to an extremely high standard.

A real home away from home. Everything had been thought of, it was perfect. The cream tea and dog supplies left for us by Kirsty and John were a lovely touch. We'll definitely be back

Very nice accommodation, high standard, comfortable and well equipped.

Friendly, welcoming and approachable owners available if needed for anything. Fairly remote location which was wanted but also only a short drive from plenty to do. Tea, (very nice) coffee, milk and a tasty cream tea! all available on arrival and much welcomed! Only minor point to consider was the WiFi arrangement. 3GB allowance given and very expensive top up rate offered (£20 for additional 3GB). May be something to consider, not too much of an issue as we only stayed the weekend but with time of year, and sometimes shakey tv signal might be more of a big deal to some. Overall very nice experience though. Many thanks
