Just got back from four nights in moonshine, a totally relaxed holiday, lovely place and everything we expected.

Only one issue, as there is no oven, would be good if there was a small microwave in the hut.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We are glad you had such a relaxing time in our lovely shepherd hut. We accept that maybe a microwave would be a useful addition to the hut but as we are sure you can appreciate after having stayed that as is the nature of shepherd huts, the space has been carefully curated to provide the maximum luxury and facilities as possible. In this way, although we have considered it, we feel that a microwave would possibly then limit the available work top space. It is perhaps unfortunate that during your stay due to government restrictions we were unable to provide the fire pit that is usually available for additional cooking. Loved staying here, the Shepherds hut was amazing it was snug, cosy and secluded.

Privacy was pretty good there is a public footpath but it's not an issue people do their thing it's really no bother. We took 3 bags of wood with us as we couldn't get a response from Sykes about the wood situation, I'm sure the property owner would have responded but didn't seem like Sykes were passing on our messages. it was just about enough, we kept the hot tub warm with a quick burst in the morning and then again about an hour before getting in, the hot tub retains the heat really well so doesn't take a lot to heat once you are passed the initial 2-3 hours to get it warmed up when you arrive. The hut was bigger than expected, only annoyance is the fridge is VERY small, really you need an ice compartment so you can have ice for drinks and cocktails. We didn't use the tent, it didn't seem very clean and did have spiders, we had nice weather, I'm sure if we had needed to we would, but the furniture in there needs replacing or cleaning. Overall had a great stay and would stay again.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We are really glad you enjoyed your stay at Moonshine and that you could appreciate the peace and seclusion it provides - you certainly were blessed with amazing weather. Unfortunately we did not receive any messages from Sykes about the logs. However we do say in our welcome pack in the hut to contact Sarah or Helen, the property owners, should you require more logs which can then be delivered to the hut. The fridge is small in order to fit into the space. It is an integrated part of the kitchen area and is fitted by the makers of the hut. Most guests find it more than adequate for a 3 night stay or short break. We understand that ice would be a welcome addition to a drink but we think you would agree that an ice compartment would take further space from the fridge. We note and appreciate your comment about the sofa in the tent and are in the process of replacing it for next season. The tent is cleaned and vacuumed inside at every changeover but in a rural setting such as ours it is difficult to keep it totally spider free. We were somewhat surprised that despite the government ban on the use of fire pits (and a note to that effect in the hut) it was used during your stay. Lovely place just a shame about the hot tub not being cleaned prior to our visit.

Tide marks all around the edge. I appreciate we could have highlighted this during our stay. However we felt it’s something that should’ve already been done without having to ask. Could do with a broom to sweep the floor throughout our stay. Would return as these are simple fixes.

Please be assured that the hot tub is emptied, cleaned and refilled after each and every guest stay and the fire laid ready for each new arrival. Therefore we are surprised that there was a mark around the rim. Perhaps we did miss a bit! We do encourage our guests to raise any issues they might have during their stay so that they may be rectified if possible. If you had let us know we would have certainly been able to quickly resolve this for you. We appreciate your suggestion about a broom being left - it’s a good idea! There is a dust pan and brush in the hut. Once again, thank you for taking the time to respond and we look forward to seeing you again.

The stay was truly beautiful, but for the expensive price tag, there were some aspects which let the stay down slightly.

One of the features that really drew us to the property was the skylight above the bed inside, however this was completely filthy. It was impossible to see through the layer of brown dirt on the glass, which was extremely disappointing and we did feel misled by this given that this was advertised. The hot water in the kitchen ran for maximum 1 minute before going cold - this made washing up very difficult and we had to wait a while before it would heat up again. The shower however was lovely. Of course, being so remote, we expected to encounter bugs and insects, however we would have expected signs that some effort was taken to clear areas on the day of check in. There were spiders EVERYWHERE - I am severely arachnophobic and though I expected to encounter a few, the sheer number was overwhelming. All over the windows, etc. and there were long standing cob webs all over the outside. I understand this is natural however it did not appear that the hot tub, tent outside (both outside and inside the tent) or the outside of the hut itself had ever been cleared of them. There were even cobwebs inside the kitchen drawer with the plates and bowls. Again, the actual facility is beautiful, we were provided with plenty of firewood and had a great time with both the fire pit and the hot tub, however I was unable to use the tent due to the number of spiders inside and some aspects, especially the hot water and the skylight, were disappointing.

Hello Charlotte. Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Moonshine - we really appreciate your feedback. As you say insects and bugs are indeed to be expected in our rural location, amongst farmland and at the top of an orchard, and to this end we make every effort to keep this peaceful and private area as free as possible from them. The outside of the hut is swept at every changeover to remove the spider webs which appear as if by magic practically overnight. We think the spiders enjoy the warmth of the wriggly tin of the hut as much as our guests do! We understand also that this is a particularly “good” year for spiders which have appeared even earlier this year due to the onset of an early autumn. Likewise the inside of the tent is vacuumed and cleaned ready for each guest arrival and the outside canvas swept. We have looked at the photographs and video after the clean prior to your arrival and we are satisfied that the hut and tent were extremely clean. We take the cleanliness and comfort of our huts very seriously. We understand that you might feel disappointed by the fallen debris on the skylight but again this is somewhat beyond our control given the huts location near trees but we do endeavour to hose it down or sweep it at each changeover. With regards to the hot water, we have run it this morning and it is working perfectly. It is a shame you didn’t alert your concern to us at the time, as we indicate in the Welcome Guide that issues and questions should be brought to our attention so they can be dealt with immediately. We are pleased you enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit and that you were able to take full advantage of using them in our special quiet setting amongst the apple trees.
