Super holiday, stunning view, immacculate cosy chalet with all we could wish for.

Very enjoyable and comfortable stay and ideal for my elderly Mother who was happy to sit and watch the world go by.

Advised Sykes after our last stay in September 2024 that there is no freezer (only a small freezer compartment in the fridge), but that there is a washing machine. Property is still showing the incorrect description today (July 2025).

The sink in bathroom was very tiny while we appreciate it was a small space I think the design was wrong.

The stressless chair has seen better days. Also we were not happy with rubbish, recycling & food waste or should we say lack of it!! Other than that property was adequate & well equipped. Bovisand site itself was very clean & the cafe was excellent.

What a wonderful location !

The accommodation was just as described, we certainly weren’t disappointed, I would recommend it anyone ,if you want to walk or just sit and relax and look at the sea , plenty of activity on the water to keep you entertained ! It was very clean , lovely comfortable beds and everything you need to make your stay enjoyable . Thank you !

This was our 2nd visit to Sound view and it was as lovely as we remembered it.

We so miss waking up to the beautiful view, and relaxing on the peaceful patio. We will definitely visit again! Just one thing to note but not a complaint at all, only one side of the toaster was working, may need some attention. Overall very very happy with our stay!

We are always pleased with Helpful Holidays and would highly recommend.

A couple of things with this holiday. No toilet paper was left. We assume this was an oversight. There were cobwebs in the kitchen. Finally, we think it would be helpful if about taking your own towels would be highlighted. We have never had this before and didn't notice so had to go out and buy towels. Superb views and park very well kept. Weather was wonderful which was an appreciated bonus.

the living room heating needs an overhaul tpless complivated heaters,The remote controle did nut work and the panel heating was difficult to control as the digital temperature setting figures have broken down,The patio door lock kept jamming ,eventualy siezed up completely and had to be left unlocked, there is a emergency communication difficulty when problems like this arise

A beautiful property which was hard to leave.

Very well equipped, clean and comfortable, everything was thoughtfully provided that we may have needed.

Amazing Location, Mesmerising Sea /Sunset view, Nice coastal waking path and beach.

We, family of four have just returned from a week's holiday in this lovely Chalet. Nice and clean, Has everything you need for cooking, washing and cleaning. Hair dryer, Iron box and board, Nice Dyson cordless hoover. Lots of DVD movies and Nice Smart TV also with freeview channels. Really enjoyed watching the sea every day. Nice cafe and superb ice cream in the near by shop. You can walk along the coast or just walk to the beach or just sit in one those many benches and watch the sea and boats sailing. Asda express is just 10 minutes drive and drive few more minutes you will find restaurants/fish and chips. Drive a little more you will reach super store supermarkets. So it is well connected to nature and town centres. It is a private property and also Useful to know that the gates closes at 8:30 pm during summer (don't worry you will get your own keys on the first day to open the gates anytime you wish to drive out or drive in). On our first day We got struck in the traffic and were so stressed that we won't reach before the gates close since we thought the gates close at 7:30. We rang SykesCottages and the lady on the phone went extra mile to do all they can and finally arranged a call with the kind owner of this chalet. The owner contacted us and reassured that the property only closes at 8:30 and reassured that in worst case she would make arrangements for us to get the keys. I can't express how relieved we were after the phone calls from and the owner. My heartiest thanks to the lady who called us on 23/Aug/2024 late evening from Skykes Cottages team and the kind owner. when I woke up today in my house and went to the doors there is no lovely sea view to look I really miss the lovely place now. We will definitely return to this place next year.

Love the place and the accommodation didn’t disappoint. Highly recommend and highly likely we’ll be back

Lovely location.

Small but decorated well. Had problems with parking meter and thought we might have been charged 3 times but luckily only once. Key safe is very stiff and needs changing. Some crockery not cleaned well. No dishwasher. There is a knack to locking the patio door, which is the front door so please provide instructions in a prominent place for future visitors. We had to lock from the outside and the go back in at the back for most of the week. Beware the gates to the park close at 7:30 pm so you need to arrive before then on your first night. There is a pathway next to the chalet and a road in front, which people frequently walk along so it’s not that private. Great for a short holiday and would book again..

Location, Location, Location - the chalet "sells itself" on the view from the front!

It is well equipped with plenty of storage space, but it may be a bit of a squash for 4 adults. Dust in corners and cobwebs on the lampshades suggests that the cleaning prior to our arrival was insufficient. The wifi code is not provided in the information pack (you have to use your initiative to locate the router behind a chair and then find it on the back of the router!). The property is accessed via steps which, although not an issue to us, could present difficulties for some and this is not readily evident from the property description. HOWEVER, the biggest issue is parking. This is managed by a 3rd party (PPS) and it is clear from other reviews and conversations with other residents / holiday makers that there are frequent issues with them. The owner's response to other reviews on this matter is "sorry",. but unfortunately that does not solve the problem. In our case the ticket machine took my credit card payment but didn't print a ticket. Trying to make contact with PPS was fraught with difficulty, and although I was able to reach them eventually via email the whole week was overshadowed by this ongoing issue. The solution lies with parking to be included within the rental, and that is an issue for the chalet owner / site owner to resolve.

We have had a great few days in Down Thomas.

The review of the property was very accurate and yes there is no building in front of this property, which gives you a great view of the bay. Will stay again as it is a great spot.

We absolutely loved the place, it was spotless and had everything we needed, The outside area was perfect to sit out and watch life go by.

We can highly recommend this place, we will definitely be looking at booking again The only thing I would like to see changed is the sofa, it is so uncomfortable, especially if like us we stay in during the evenings, I no there is 2 other chairs but for older people like us we need a bit of comfort, that is the only thing that would stop us booking again, but otherwise the place is perfect, Also the parking space needs to have the number painted back on it, as it does not show where we are to park, But even after those couple of little bits we would definitely consider booking again

The property was very nice and it’s location superb.

We had everything we needed. Very comfortable beds and shower facility . Good cooking facilities . The small sink in the bathroom could be a bit larger we felt. Overall we had an excellent time . The only stressor was parking payment on arrival as we tried very hard to ensure we paid and got a ticket but just couldn’t not print a ticket even though we had confirmed payment . We had to phone the parking company but couldn’t talk to anyone . We phoned facility management who said get a parking ticket quickly as you risk a fine but we just couldn’t which did set the stay off to a bad start. Plus our parking site had no number 59 on it so we weren’t sure we were parking in the right place and phoned and were told it had recently been tarmac so the number was missing. Having driven for 4 hrs we were rather stressed managing this. We eventually managed communication with parking the following day who wanted evidence we had paid which we supplied and then again the following day for more info which did rather overshadow our time. The holiday overall was very good though and we would return in future If an opportunity arises . The Mussel inn we would highly recommend for excellent food and service . People were very friendly and helpful. Thank you

It was a lovely quiet relaxing place.

The property is quite remote with no shops near by. It is quite a steep drive down to the site and the lanes are very narrow. It would not be a good place if you have mobility problems. The property is quite small but comfortable however the bathroom wash basin is the smallest I have ever seen. Also when we arrived there were no toilet paper so pleased we remembered to bring some with us. There was no welcome pack and this is always nice to find when you are renting holiday accommodation. We had a good holiday and would use the property again

Amazing chalet, with exceptional veiw, both by day and sunsets by night.

We even were treated to fireworks across the bay one night. The chalet is the best equipped chalet we have stayed in, complete with flasks for day trips and even a slow cooker! There were a few steps up from the road to get to the chalet, but they were managed by someone in our party on crutches. On site there is a lovely cafe, where the food is excellent and reasonably prices, along with great ice cream. There are plenty of walks for the able bodied, along with small beach coves and oppurtunity for diving, flying kites and other water sports. It makes for great watching from the terrace even if you are unable to participate, along with the great array of ships passing by. Having the gate closed in the evening meant that the site was quiet, and yet gave the freedom to come and go as we pleased. All in all a wonderful place which we can highly recommend.

Lovely property and the views are stunning.

Everything in the chalet that you could possibly need. One small point, the key safe is difficult to open and may need some attention.

We loved being right on the coast path and the footpath to the village, with immediate access to beautiful little beaches and an excellent café and with a glorious and endlessly interesting view.

The bungalow was faultless - really thoughtfully decorated and equipped and very clean. Thank you.

Perfect place to explore Plymouth from, Foot ferry crossing only 15min drive away, free parking and 3min crossing time into Plymouth lots of trips if you like ferry's, we also enjoyed just sitting and watching the ships and boats traveling in and out of Plymouth from the comfort of the sitting room, or patio seating outside.

had a nice relaxing holiday. P.S The owners where very nice and helpful they sorted out a small problem we had immediately, and while they were there told us a little on the history of the area.

parking available but during our stay there were ample guest and visitor parking. Our parents, in the end, didn't join us due to the parking issue which could have been avoided.

Lovely chalet.

Clean and well equipped. We had an 87yr old lady with us with some mobility issues. The photos made it look as if access was easy. In fact there are steps which made life a little harder (she did cope). Can’t remember accessibility being mentioned in the details. Great spot with views and walks along coast path

Lovely location with ever changing vistas on the Sound.

The Barbican has a good choice for eating out. There are two National Trusts near. The weather was quite cold. However, the electric heaters kept the chalet very cosy. We think the shower has been replaced since a comment made last year. It worked well. The parking charge is a shame but the location makes it worth it

A great position overlooking the sea and Plymouth Siund with easy access to the walking in the area.

We had a great holiday and the views were excellent.

The accommodation was clean and had everything and that we needed .there is a nice cafe on site plus some good walks we will definitely go back again

We were disappointed with the fact that we had to pay £25 for parking on the site for the week.

We were expecting that as we had a nominated parking space for one car and a pass, the pass would wave any parking fee which it did not. This should be clearly stated in your documentation re this accommodation. We rang the helpline for clarification and they were not helpful all we were told was if we didn’t pay we would be fined £100 even though I was instigating an enquiry with intention to pay, The Ringo facility would not work for me and the two ladies on the telephone helpline I spoke to could not even give me the number to ring to pay the fee. Finally realising we would have to pay we had to then go out in wind and rain to find a number on a machine. These helpline assistants should have been able to clarify, answer my questions and have the number to hand immediately instead of me doing their job for them. Threatening a customer with fines on the first day of a holiday is not good customer service. This ruined the first day of our holiday and whilst the parking fee was not excessive to us, some people in the same position could have had to spend holiday spending money on parking fees instead of their family. The whole experience was unpleasant. Please make the amount £25 summer £10 winter parking on site even with pass clearly visible for future customers in the details of your documentation. In addition to this the site was locked every night at 7:30pm which was restrictive. Very few shops and facilities on site or nearby. Apart from the above the Chalet was In An excellent position for viewing out to sea and it was interesting to see naval vessels, sailing boats, ferries and yes, one submarine from the comfort of our chairs through patio windows in the chalet. This was the most enjoyable part. Beaches and coastal paths nearby, but cars are needed and roads are single track. The chalet was well equipped with everything needed. Decor pleasant throughout. Shower room a little small and could perhaps do to be refurbed. Altogether mostly pleasant holiday, it is the first time we have been a little disappointed with Sykes Holidays and it was only related to the parking and helpline which just needs clarification. We have holidayed at times with Sykes over many years and this incident was just unfortunate, we will try again. One other thing, not everyone has the latest mobile phone or have lots of I.T. Don’t forget these people, give them other options. Thank you for giving us the chance to make a point. Gillian and Stephen Gilfeather.

Exceptional view from cottage

The chalet is in a fantastic location overlooking Plymouth Sound.

It is very well resourced. Right on the South West Coastal path so walking straight from the door. Two good beaches at your doorstep. Very happy, sunny healthy week.
