“We really enjoyed our stay in here, the whole place was so quiet and we had the swimming pool to ourselves most days!”

(We did go out of term so that helped) Situated around lots of greenery so perfect place for clearing your mind and getting away, but not too far out of the way of towns and places to shop or eat! The lodge itself was lovely, but just needs a bit of updating in terms of new tea towels, new towels, new washing up bowl and drying rack and new drawers and could do with a fresh coat of paint everywhere. These would just modernise it that bit more. Other than these few tiny things we had a fabulous ...

Glad we found this place and looking forward to returning!

Thank you for your comments and we are glad you enjoyed the stay. The linen and towels are supplied by a property services company, so I will certainly bring your comments to their attention. The decoration and replacement of kitchen wares will happen during the winter period when we refresh the place after a long summer season. We hope you will come again. Property Owner

The property

Tamar Valley Resort offers great value accommodation in a scenic haven well known for its outstanding natural beauty.

The lodge-style accommodation is well placed for guests looking to explore a little of both Cornwall and Devon with some fantastic local attractions nearby.

Within a short drive is Cotehele, a Tudor house and valley garden estate set above the River Tamar or a little further afield you can visit the glorious sandy beach at Whitsand Bay with dramatic scenery and sheer cliffs.

Equally accessible is the magical Dartmoor National Park with undulating moorlands and a myriad of historic sites and monuments - a rambler's dream. Just a short walk from the on site leisure facilities including indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools, bar, shop and reception are the Valley Lodges.

During the school holidays there is a busy programme of entertainment including quiz nights and karaoke plus sporting activities (seasonal, subject to availability, extra charges apply) including archery, rock climbing, canoeing and abseiling.

Arranged in small clusters along the valley stream, these typical lodge-style holiday homes are arranged over two floors with upstairs and downstairs terraces from which to enjoy the outside space.

With the living space upstairs, guests are able to step out on to a decked balcony and take in the rural outlook towards Dartmoor and across the Tamar Valley. The accommodation is spacious and well presented; perfect for families and friends to relax after a sunshine day at the beach or a ramble in the countryside.

The living room is the hub of the retreat with big comfy sofas and an open-plan dining area with table for family gatherings for meals and board games, making a great social space.

The kitchen is modern and bright with plenty of storage and work space for cooking up a foodie feast.

Doors from the sitting area open onto the little balcony.

The ground floor bedrooms are comfortable with ample storage space; the master has an en-suite bathroom and a door leading out to the paved patio, so dine alfresco or enjoy an evening tipple under the stars.

About the location

CALLINGTON

Tavistock 9 miles; Launceston 11.5 miles; Plymouth 14.6 miles.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
