“First of all, Sykes' customer service was excellent and they addressed our concerns quickly and without hesitation.”

The lodge itself was private, comfortable and we enjoyed our stay overall. However, several maintenance issues mean we wouldn't return to this particular lodge. The lodge itself was private, comfortable and we enjoyed our stay overall. However, several maintenance issues mean we wouldn't return to this particular lodge. The hot tub was the biggest disappointment: most of the jets barely worked, and by the end of our stay it stopped working completely and tripped the power to the lodge. The drinks fridge and en-suite shower were also not working, several light bulbs had blown, the outdoor dining table was damaged with corroded and broken legs, and the toilet flushes required excessive force to operate. Some general wear and tear is expected in a dog- and child-friendly property, but at this price we would expect the facilities and amenities to be properly maintained and fully functional. The lodge was clean inside, although the decking would benefit from a thorough jet wash. Southern Halt is a beautiful site with friendly staff, and we would happily return to the park. Unfortunately, due to the maintenance issues, we wouldn't choose Lodge 21 again.

The property

21 Meadow Retreat is a generous two-bedroom lodge overlooking a private lake, positioned to access Bodmin Moor and both Cornish coastlines, with a south-facing orientation maximising water and rural vistas.

Perfect for families or friend groups valuing generous accommodation and isolation, it features a sunken hot tub positioned on a comprehensive wrap-around deck, a master bedroom incorporating dressing facilities, pet-friendly secure outdoor areas, and open-plan living suffused with daylight.

Throughout the interior, natural illumination and water views dominate the experience.

Substantial glass doors opening onto the lake dissolve internal-external divisions, making landscape and water an extension of living space.

The kitchen comprehensively serves family self-catering, whilst separate dining and lounge zones accommodate group dynamics.

The master bedroom prioritises personal retreat, offering a king-size sleeping space, styled en-suite, and discrete dressing area.

The twin bedroom demonstrates equal comfort, positioned with views framing the lake from sleep level.

Beyond the lodge, the wrap-around deck becomes the primary outdoor gathering space.

The secondary elevation encompasses farmland and open countryside, whilst the primary south-facing section looks toward water and cultivated grounds.

The sunken hot tub commands this vantage, beckoning evening use as the landscape transitions to dusk.

Both Cornish coasts remain readily accessible from this lakeside base.

Southern exploration delivers Looe's working harbour and beach environment, Polperro's characterful narrow lanes, or Fowey's dining and retail waterside setting.

Northern travel presents Padstow's commercial harbour vitality, Polzeath's raw coastal appeal, or Port Isaac's village-scale clifftop position.

Bodmin Moor sits immediately nearby, offering walking terrain across difficulty spectrums and age ranges.

Family entertainment options concentrate locally.

Adrenaline Quarry serves thrill-seekers, the Eden Project delivers horticultural immersion, and the Lost Gardens of Heligan invite contemplative wandering.

The Old Mill Bar and Restaurant at Stonerush Lakes fulfils dining requirements without household cooking.

Whatever your family's priority – lakeside peace, moorland activity, or coastal experience – 21 Meadow Retreat delivers space and positioning to realise it.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £250.

Please note that the ponds and surrounding reed beds form an important natural habitat for local wildlife. During the bird nesting season, typically between March and September, the reeds may appear more established than shown in some website photographs. In line with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, vegetation management may be restricted during this period to help protect nesting birds and other wildlife. We appreciate your understanding as we work to preserve the natural environment and biodiversity of the site for both wildlife and guests to enjoy.
