8 Horizon View

Having stayed at Southern Halt before, we found the standard of number 8 Horizon View a bit disappointing.

The lodge is described as being the highest possible standard but we didn't find this to be the case. We feel the lodge needs some maintaining in areas like the en suite bathroom where the loo seat is wobbly and the shower riser broken; a broken blind in the bigger twin room; rusty light fittings; mould in the window and door frames. The outdoor furtniture was so uncomfortable we couldn't spend much time outside. However, the location is perfect for exploring this part of Cornwall, the train links from Liskeard are excellent, and the views from the lodge are stunning. We enjoyed our stay despite feeling a little let down by the accommodation. We will definitely visit again but would be unlikely to choose this particular lodge.

A pretty Christmas Tree was a lovely welcome touch. Would definitely book again.

The only thing missing was any sort of bottle/tin opener.

The toilet seats needs to be tightened up

It was perfect location for us.

Regarding hot tub it was wonderful to relax in after being out during the day, a little bit more enclosed around it would make it perfect.couldn’t fault anything else.

Lovely place with great facilities.

We had some issues with the hot tub which was a bit of a disappointment as that’s why we chose to stay there. Onsite were very helpful but it was not working properly and didn’t for the whole week. Apart from that it’s a great place but a bit of a squeeze for 6 adults.

For a relaxing break away from everything, it’s fantastic.

The lodge was comfortable and the views stunning. My only recommendations would be to the site and not the lodges would be, A cafe/restaurant so we didn’t have to cook breakfast. B Clearer instructions as to where to put our rubbish when leaving. C. Hard copy of facilities/instructions. D. Games room/area for kids and teenagers. Again, these are my personal recommendations, having two teenagers with us, the above would have been better for them. For my partner and I, it was a most welcome rest from every day life.

We had an amazing stay and it had all ur essentials, spotlessly clean.

Hot tub was beautiful with an amazing view they only thing I would say is maybe a cover for the hot tub as the weather is unpredictable so that way you could go in even if it wasn’t sunny, but we will definitely stay again

The lodge was lovely especially the view across the fields.

The lodge was well equipped with the dishwasher and washing machine if needed. The beds were comfortable and if we were to return to Cornwall then we would not think twice about returning to the lodge. I would highly recommend 8 Horizon View.

Location was great and had lots of privacy. Our host Sally was very attentive and was at the end of a call or email. Already looking to book again.

Very secluded.

privacy has been given a lot of thought. The living area was well thought out with lovely views through the huge windows. Our dog also made himself very at home. The decking was slippery when wet for the dog but that’s only to be expected. It caused him no problems. Pretty clean and spacious. the hot tub was checked and maintained every day. We’d be happy to stay again if we didn’t live so far away.

8 has been amazing. Comfortable, clean and exactly what was described. The views were amazing over the fields either sat having breakfast or when sat in the hot tub. The beautiful thing about the Southern Halt site is that each lodge is completely private. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and if we needed to speak to them they always followed up with a phone call. I would recommend this property to a family or friends wishing to holiday in Cornwall. The only disappointment was the weather but then we are never guaranteed that!!!

It was a fantastic place to stay.

Very, very clean and the lodge had everything we needed. Views were amazing. Its in a good spot to local amenities too. We will be back hopefully next year. Loved this place.

Great location very quiet and ideal for both north and south coasts. Would definitely return.

We absolutely loved our stay!

The place was simply stunning and the view was incredible that we had at the back of the lodge. Its by far our best weekend we’ve had away. If your a couple looking for a little break this is perfect for you. Your completely separate to others and the view that the back looks upon is simply stunning whilst enjoying the tub The staff are all lovely and the community are so friendly. We wish we found this stay before! We will 100000% be back and be recommending. Thank you for a beautiful stay

Hi we have stayed at this property before, we travel regularly to Cornwall my mams hometown she is now 83 and actually lived on Havett Rd in the 40/50’s as a farm.

I had 3 lodges for my family 8,10 and 11. They were particularly clean and the decking dangerous for the little ones. There was a leak in the bathroom at 11 which looks like it had bern leaking for a long time by the colour of the wooden floor. We stay the same week every year not sure about next year now very disappointed.

There was a noticeable smell in the family bathroom which we reported on arrival.

We were told to open windows and doors which we did do but it never really went away. I do not understand how when the property was checked earlier in the day it was not noticed as it was really strong. We just dealt with it. We did speak to the lady who we saw completing hot tub checks. There was not the usual amount of bubbles coming out of all the jets. She said she didn't have the right tools and would come back the next day to sort it. Two different people did come and clearly with tools trying to fix it but really it did not improve.

What an absolutely fantastic place to stay everything you needed was there such a stress free stay it was nice and private an absolute lap of luxury with the added bonus of the hot tub,I wish I could of stayed longer,but I will definitely be back without fail,I eould highly recommend and I cannot give enough praise

The lodge is set in a lovely, peaceful location.

There's nothing else on site but there is plenty to do out and about. Although we wouldn't recommend the pub down the road. The lodge is very comfortable & roomy. The view from the lodge is perfect & we felt very private from the other lodges. It had everything we needed. The only problem we had was there was a smell from the main bathroom. It was solved by putting the plugs in the plug holes. We had a lovely holiday

The bathroom emanated a sewage smell for the duration of our visit and despite reporting this a number of times the maintenance team was unable to rectify the issue.

This resulted in a family of 4 being relegated to a small en-suite off the main bedroom as the main bathroom was unusable

Excellent standard of accommodation.

FYI. I did point out to the hot tub man that there was a loose plank outside and also I would point out to the owners there are 3 nail heads slightly protruding outside bedroom 2/bathroom. Didn't cause a problem you just might want to be aware. If we get back to Cornwall we will be happy to holiday at these chalets again.

Beautiful property with everything we needed.

Hot tub fantastic and very private. Most comfortable bed ever in main bedroom. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Shame there wasn't the option of a thinner duvet though - the one provided was too hot for this time of year!

Unfortunately we were very disappointed with this property.

We stayed here in March and left feedback then that the property was not as shown in the photos. We consider that the items that were missing should remove it from the luxury class. When we arrived this time, on entering, the lodge immediately smelt damp. The problem was that the dishwasher was not working and had been leaking, and looking at the reviews, the previous visitors had already reported it. We called the required number to complain and it was replaced on the Saturday but the damp smell continued all week as the water had permeated into the wall and floor. This meant that when we were in the lodge we had to have the windows and doors open. We requested a change of lodge but were informed that there was no other lodge available. We were advised that we could return home and a full refund was offered, but this was not really an option as it was a four hour journey and we had a 11 month old baby with us. We had been looking forward to this break. There was also a sewage smell in the bathroom which stayed all week which we reported. Although we enjoyed our stay in Cornwall we did not enjoy our stay in the lodge. We believe that some compensation would be in order. We welcome your reply to this feedback. We have booked with Sykes cottages in the past and hope that we can do so in the future should this be resolved. You ask if we want the review published; we'll leave that decision to you.
