We enjoyed our stay at 9 Horizon View, the view across the valley was stunning though felt the hedge was slightly too high as it did impede it when you stepped outside to the decking or sat down in the lounge.
The lodge itself was clean and tidy upon arrival and had the amenities necessary for our week stay (hairdryer, clothes line, pegs, kitchen stuff). I would comment however the master bed was very hard, this is more personal preference but it was not a comfortable bed. There must also be a nearby hornets nest as we had multiple in the lodge daily. The park itself was very quiet and lodges well laid out. Easy to get to local tourist sites like Looe, Polperro, Newquay. We usually stay at the sister site (Stonerush Lakes) and have done for a fair few years. Charteroak (who manage the sites) have always left a box of starter bits like a couple of dishwasher tabs, washing up liquid, sponge which is appreciated. In other years they have also left plenty of loo roll and milk in the fridge which they hadn't this year so felt that was a slight drop in the usual service.
Unfortunately the double bed with the en-suite was uncomfortable so my daughter and son-in-law didn’t sleep well.
They said it was very hard. Both shower / bathrooms were not as clean as I expected them to be and smelled musty and mouldy. Mould could be seen on the floor where it meets the edge of the bath and the bathroom flooring is worn and needs renewing. Two curtains in the living room space had a big stain on them. My daughter has stayed at Southern Halt in the past and she said that this particular lodge was disappointing compared to the one they stayed in before. The fridge had a horrible smell coming from it and the light wasn’t working. So all in all not a “luxury lodge” as advertised.
Sorry but with issues throughout the lodge it really wasn't a great stay.
The shower support in the main bathroom was broken prior to our arrival, neither of the two bedroom TVs we used worked one had very few channels the other would not tune in at all. There was a large amount of black mould on the ceilings in both the main bathroom and ensuite The shower hose was so covered in mould it was coming off as the shower water hit the hose. We made sure this was cleaned before we next used the shower. I didn't pay attention to the comments of others regarding the bed in the main bedroom. It has a very soft noisey mattress that is so uncomfortable and wakes you up every time you move with the noise of the springs. The 2 sofas are just as uncomfortable the table is sticky due to the varnish needing replacing It was also covered in fluorescent pink pen as is the carpet in one of the bedrooms. The vacuum cleaner doesn't work well as the beater bar doesn't work. There was no hand wash in either the main bathroom or ensuite no cleaning products at all in the property only soup spoons no dessert spoons. Quite limited cooking utensils, the frying pans have seen better days. No cafetier which we found odd as pretty much every lodge we've stayed has one. The fridge is broken and only has one shelf remaining useable on the door. There's no foil or baking paper no rubbish sacks or bin liners in the kitchen not even a spare loo roll. It appeared that all the little bits that most owners have in their lodges have been removed. I will add that the shower support was replaced by Southern Halt maintenance staff after the cleaning staff reported this . Such a shame as this is our third stay at Southern Halt and this is not the usual standard.
