Ridge's Retreat (No 7 Kigbeare Lodges)

Lovely lodge with a gorgeous view over the golf course.

Good cooking facilities and lots of space both inside and out. The resort had so many activities you could book but the app/booking system was a bit fiddly. I would recommend arranging it in advance of going so you can make the most of it.

Our second stay at Ridges Retreat, we have been coming to the Ashbury/Manor resort for decades and the lodge is a nice alternative to the hotel.

More comfortable.

The lodge was lovely and the views were stunning.

Overall the lodge was comfortable although the beds could have benefited from more comfortable mattresses! The shower in the en-suite was a little dirty in the corners but otherwise it was fine. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider staying again.

We stayed for a few nights at the end of August, and while the lodge is perfect, and the area is amazing, The king bed and the lack of kitchen equipment was a pain, The bed was so hard that we are still struggling with back pain over a week later.

We also like to cook, and the oven dishes are just not big enough for a larger family to cook meals, I also would suggest better sign posting for the lodges as we got lost and ended up in the wrong place. The staff were lovely in the office, huge thank you to the lady who took time to explain where we had to go!. If the bed was not so old and outdated with a very poor mattress this place would be perfect.

A wonderful lodge lots off things to do very clean and comfortable wonderful view from lodge .

On first impressions, the lodge was spacious and well- equipped.

The outside veranda and furniture were practical and helped us enjoy the lovely location. Unfortunately, the beds were uncomfortable as the mattresses were thin and creaky. And for this reason alone we will not be booking again. We also found the staff at Ashbury unwelcoming. No smiles or warm greeting as we collected our keys when we arrived. It also took some time to find the lodges as we were told a road was closed and to follow a track across the golf course. Not what you want after a long journey.

It’s a really impressive place warm and clean and a wonderful view across the moors with plenty of parking

3rd time back and not disappointed, lodge, as always, clean, well equipped, warm, homely, and located in a beautiful setting.

Was very pleased to see Ashbury hotel itself has had a well deserved makeover in reception/bar area and the facilities available are amazing. Thank you again to the owners of the lodge for allowing us to share your home, we will be back !

We had the most amazing time.

We had an awful holiday last year and this totally made us fall in love with holidays again. It was clean, spacious and so many things to do on your door step. There is a bit of building work going on but didnt bother us at all. We will definitely be booking again. It's a hidden gem

We have stayed at the neighbouring Lodges many times, an excellent experience.

For this lodge, the photos represented outdoor seating in excellent order, along with cushions and an umbrella. None of the above applied, while our son cut his hand on the rough timber seating. On reporting this ( the outdoor seating provision)to the cleaner, the owners weren't prepared to discuss the issues, while Sykes completely disregarded our complaint and the misrepresentation as to the seating. Having paid £1800 for the 3 days( 4 days in terms of advertised stay, but a late check in of 5pm ) we had previously encountered an earlier check in as to the neighboring Lodges and comfy outdoor seating,( sofas, egg chairs) in excellent condition. Having elderly parents with us, unable to use the sporting facilities, their sitting on the elevated decking was essential to the stay and restricted due to the aforementioned basic furniture and rough condition. We have stayed at many Lodges, with 3pm check ins, welcome packs( as opposed to 3 tablets of soap across the bathrooms and no provision as to shampoos etc- minor niggles admittedly) with the lodge owners eager to deal with any issues that apply. This owner refused to discuss our issues on the 2nd day of the stay, as did Sykes. With the cut to my sons hand , the health ans safety issue, as reported, resulted in no apology or offer as to compensation. Paying £1800 for the 3 days , you would expect a reasonable check in time and provision and certainly outdoor furniture in good condition and with cushions, as per the photo representation. The lodge is far more basic compared to the others.

Lovely Lodge in wonderful location.

Very comfortable and peaceful with everything we needed to a weeks stay. Facilities onsite at Ashbury resort are excellent with even more to enjoy at the Manor resort a mile or two away. Golf excellent - even though the courses were a bit wet - still very challenging and enjoyable. Great stay - we will be back!

Such a fantastic place to holiday, we couldn’t have asked for more!

Immaculately clean, nicely furnished and so spacious. So much parking too. We used the facilities at the Manor and Ashbury and then loved coming back to our lodge in the evening to relax in front of the colourful fire. Loads of board games provided :)

We were very pleased with the lodge despite an initial housekeeping issue which was resolved quickly.

Would happily come again. Lovely views from lounge. Brilliant tv. Heating control took a while to understand.

Another fantastic time at this resort made all the more enjoyable by staying in this amazing lodge.

We all purchased a weekly activity pass enabling us to use the incredible facilities at both hotels. We chose to eat breakfast and lunch in the lodge and pay for an evening meal up at the hotel so that we could easily continue using the facilities before retiring back to the lodge. The lodge is modern, well maintained, warm & comfortable and we thank you for allowing us to share your beautiful home. As a family this holiday allowed us to spend so much quality time together and above all we had so much fun, we hope to be back next year !

Lovely Lodge on a great resort with fantastic golf courses.

Visitors want for nothing in this lovely lodge with great views. We were lucky to see a couple of wonderful sun rises over the adjacent hills. We thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing stay in this well appointed lodge and will definitely be returning. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed our stay and found the lodge to be in good condition, very clean and with all the basic needs supplied to enable a good holiday.

The lodge has a lovely view across the golf course to the magnificent Dartmoor in the distance. It is situated in a quiet location but on hand, apart from the golf courses, are many other experiences supplied by the Ashbury hotel so the best of both worlds. A brief mix up with keys issued by Ashbury at the beginning was quickly rectified by Sykes Cottages and the owner with apologies. We haven’t any complaints and would consider rebooking and would recommend to others.

A washing machine would be good but not necessary just a thought.

Lovely clean, spacious, warm, well equipped lodge in the perfect location for us.

Great selection of hooks everywhere! Our boys loved exploring the selection of board games and we loved the peaceful surroundings and fab view. Would agree with a previous review that perhaps the single mattresses could benefit from a comfy topper but wasn’t a big issue for us. Icing on the cake would be to have use of a washing machine but equally doing no washing makes it feel more of a holiday!!! Thank you - we will definitely be back.

We have stayed at the Ashbury many times, over the years, first time in this beautiful lodge, we had an amazing week, 5* accommodation, spacious and clean.

Ashbury staff were exceptionally helpful, showed us the way to the lodge on a buggy, they are resurfacing the road to the lodge at the moment, so currently you have to follow the blue signs going across the golf course to get there, but I don’t think it will be long before the proper road is open. 2 of us bought a weekly pass, the other 2, who came later in the week, daily ones, and we chose to pay for evening meals only, at £15 for a buffet, it was well worth it. Thank you for allowing us to stay at your home, we would very much like to come back !

As the lodge were new all the fixtures and fittings were perfect.

The views are stunning and it was a very peaceful setting as we were the only ones there. We felt that there should have been more china as was only 6 of everything. Although only sleeps 6 more is needed. Easier instructions for the TV and heating would have been appreciated. The main issue we had was finding the lodge once we had collected the keys. Instructions given to us at reception were not clear so we ended up driving around the golf course on the Buggy track! Not ideal at all. Eventually we were shown where to go by following someone on a golf buggy. The road down to the lodge has not been finished and there were no signs, so it was impossible to find without being shown as needed to go through a yard full of building materials. I am sure once all the building of the lodges and road down has been finished signage will be sorted out, but at the moment anyone booking the lodge needs to be aware it is impossible to find without someone showing you the way. Overall we had a lovely break in a very well presented lodge. Very suitable for my 88 year old mother as all on one level with great non slip decking.

We had a lovely stay at 7 Kigsbeare lodge, we didn’t use the sports facility or golf as we were visiting family but the lodge is set in a beautifully quiet location with spectacular views.

The reception staff were not overly helpful nor did we get shown where the lodge was until we bumped into a guy who worked there in a golf buggy. We were told to park in the car park above but worked it out ourselves that we could actually drive down the tiny lane yo he lodge and park outside!! The lodge itself is highly recommended - very comfortable indeed apart from the bed mattresses which were very cheap and sub standard - a real shame considering everything else was so perfect. A good week and will definitely come back but hoping the mattresses will be improved upon by then

A fantastic lodge very comfortable and clean lots of room for 6 people .

Lots of things to do for my grandsons especially loved the sports pitches .would love to go again .
