Teign River Retreat

Superb holiday lodge right next to the Teign river.

Absolutely tranquil other than the noise of river Teign flowing and the birds singing. Location was just perfect. Lodge was exactly as described and very spacious and had everything we needed. Host was responsive too. Had a fantastic week and would recommend anyone who loves nature.

The lodge was as listed, except the WiFi claim.

It was slow or non-existent. The owner responded immediately when asked for ideas, (and explained why it was poor), but turning hub on/off didn’t help. The best we could get, seemed to be by having two of our three devices powered off. (I read reviews of the three available lodges, and poor WiFi is mentioned elsewhere). However, we spoke to a family renting a lodge four numbers down from ours, who assured us THEIR INTERNET WAS GOOD, AND FAST. WiFi is imperative, because mobile signal is useless (not Sykes fault of course). There’s no information on amenities - The heating control is good and very simple … but there’s nothing which says that! The internet password, as most know, is behind the hub … but there’s no mention (for those who don’t). The TV is perfect (bigger than the one in the photos) … but there’s no operation overview! We found it set on ‘Samsung plus’ (I think), and we were unfamiliar with the menu layout. It took us 15 mins to figure out how to navigate to the Freesat icon, for live tv. These are small things, but a few words of guidance (as requested in other reviews) would help. This is our 44th , and almost all provide information on the above 3 items. Ps - there is a detailed sheet on recycling the rubbish, which we followed, only to find the bins at the entrance are guesswork, as they’re mostly not labelled up! We enjoyed our week. It’s a large lodge in a beautiful setting, and the only one right on the river. Beds, bathrooms, lounge, kitchen are fine. The roads are very ‘skinny’, but we soon adjusted to them. But we struggled without a phone signal and WiFi.

The lodge was clean, comfortable and warm with everything we could possibly need. The only small point we would make is to provide some cupboard space for food items. We would definitely return...it must be wonderful in spring!

Lovely place, facing the river.

surroundings great, good for someone looking for a tranquil time. The accomodtion was mostly comfortable, though the glass coffee table is a no-no. tripped and skinned my shin within 10 minutes. Not good for youngsters. Wardrobe in the twin room was awkard to get get in to but managed ok. The park was lovey and peaceful, and the lanes were ok getting to the place. Bigger sign needed on the entrance as couldn't see it on arrival. Close to A road network, and we went to the Donkey sanctuary, Teignmouth, sidmouth, oakhampton & Newton Abbott. We would definately stay there again for the peace and quiet.

I had a very comfortable stay.

The lodge was well equipped and in a lovely location over looking the river. It would be helpful to have details in the lodge about the local area, walks etc. but thats just a very minor point. Do follow the directions given to find the lodge and not satnav, being tired after a long drive I didnt and had an "interesting" drive along roads I am not sure can be classed as roads. All in all a lovely, quiet relaxing short break in a beautiful setting.

It was very hot and Peter quickly delivered a fan.

He also trimmed a hedge to ensure that the outdoor hand rail was more accessible. Super service, excellent accommodation for a quiet break, good pubs, well located for visiting the Moor and NT gardens. Maybe a bigger sign at the entrance as another couple also had problems locating the Park.

This was the perfect spot for a quiet relaxing break.

Fantastic lodge in a lovely location

Teign River Retreat far exceeded our expectations.

The chalet was very clean and warm and was well equipped for our stay. The beds were lovely and comfy and the heating was easy to work. This is the perfect stay for those wanting to really get away from the rat race. I would have happily stayed several more days and go again. We saw a stag on our first day and narrowly missed an otter! Bring wellies for local exploration and be prepared to drive down narrow devon lanes.

The property was stunning inside and out.

peaceful. You are located in a valley right next to the river Teign . The only thing i would say is the 3 ways out of the valley are not good all tiny lanes with very limited passing places.

We had a brilliant week, the lodge was so clean .

We loved everything ! importantly for us it had lovely sofas to relax in after a days exploring ! Everything you require is here ! the owner has really put a lot of thought into providing for every need ! It is off the beaten track , and you do have to travel to reach Civilisation! But it is well worth it ! The stunning setting , the river which you have full access to and a little sandy bit to have a paddle! , just perfect !

Everything seemed to be brandnew! And we appreciated to be able to contact you, whenever we needed help. (The internet broke down because of weather conditions) Thank you for our wonderful first stay in England! For other guests: to get to the lodge might be a little tricky because of the many very steep an narrow streets, which seem to be typical for Devon and Cornwall. It is a bit of an adventure, but we liked it. Bye Esther
