“The location of the lodge's are in a beautiful wooded setting and on arrival we were eager to see what our particular lodge was like inside….”

Once we had driven round twice and ended up getting out of the car and looking for it on foot! Better direct sign posts to each lodge would make this task so much easier. Entering the lodge was easy with the key stored in a coded key lock. Unfortunately the moment we stepped in to the lodge, the overpowering musky smell hit us. It appeared to be confined to downstairs where all the bedrooms are located and this led to a very unpleasant sleepless night for all of us. If it hadn’t been for a wedding we were attending later in the week, we would have left that day. Unfortunately as the bedrooms are on the ground floor and the windows unsuitable to be left ‘ajar’ as there aren’t any window opening restrictor locks, there wasn’t any way we could get any ventilation and escape from the smell. We contacted maintenance the next morning who responded straight away and dropped a dehumidifier off while we were out. I find it hard to believe that they couldn’t smell anything and commented that they were probably nose blind to it! The dehumidifier made a big difference. Although the musky smell was still present, it was bearable. We kept the dehumidifier on throughout our week’s stay, emptying it at least twice a day, every day. All our clothing and hair smelt musky and all our unworn clothing had to be washed when we got home to get rid of the smell. This whole experience has left us really disappointed which is such a shame as it could and should have been so nice! The lodge, itself, was very well equipped and we loved the quirky decor. A recycling bin next to the waste bin would have been helpful although it didn’t appear that recycling, in general, is not a big thing on site. The standard of cleanliness was very good with clean bedding and towels and although the musky smell was awful, there didn’t seem to any mould present apart from the cupboard under the stairs and on the lining of the master bedroom curtains. The mattress’s were good quality and comfortable with protective sheets. My grandsons made full use of the indoor pool and we all had a pleasant meal in the onsite pub one evening. There is so much we liked about this holiday village but unfortunately, we would never return due to the ‘smell’. Just to end, the turnover staff were really helpful finding my daughters hair dryer and straighteners after we left, putting them in lost property and boxing them up ready for a courier to pick up and return to us.
