Newton Calm is a lovely lodge in a very good position a short distance from the waterfront and very close to The Green deli/coffee shop.

Inside the lodge is pretty spacious and comfortable with everything you need provided. This was my second visit and I hope to visit again. There are a few things I believe need attention, there is a distinct odour in the area of the washing machine which also affects the adjoining cupboard and cutlery drawer. Outside the front gate is splitting and needs maintenance, the surrounding hedge has grown too tall and needs cutting back and the decking feels insecure next to the gate. One of the glass panels has dropped lhs of lodge. In conclusion with a bit of maintenance work mainly outside this could easily become a 5 star lodge again.

Very disappointed upon arrival.

What the lodge is nice, there was an awful sewage like stench outside the property and in the bathroom of one of the bedrooms. The decking was covered in leaves and the table and chairs covered in bird droppings. Whilst I appreciate there are trees surrounding the lodge, the amount present clearly indicated it had not been cleaned and swept in days. I contacted the housekeeper, as advised on instructions, to be told they only deal with the inside. The property manager finally called me and attended the property. I advised I had had to spray copious amounts of perfume to try and get rid of the stench. They told me they could not smell sewage, only damp. The smell returned a couple of days later, I may contact but did not receive a reply until I had been home a couple of days! I since looked through reviews and there is one on this site from back in April where a guest complains about the state of the outside decking and furniture. At the time the manager accepted the outside needed to be sorted. They also complain about a Christmas tree being in a wardrobe, that is still Present. I have requested a partial Refund, only for this to be denied. Terrible service and would definitely not be returning. I do not recommend this lodge. It’s a shame as it has the capability of being great. Attention to detail would certainly improve it.
