“We found the gallery to be both quiet and a rewarding place to stay.”

Ideally situated to do whatever we felt like doing be that in a Devon or Cornwall for a trip out. Sitting out on the veranda looking at the fields and scenery behind was lovely. The gallery is well equipped with everything you need for ant meal you wish to make. A very nice touch was being left a cream tea by the owner for our arrival. The owner was very nice. Just wanted to add a thank you, we had a great time and look forward to returning sometime in the future.

The property

This unique Devon retreat is off the usual beaten track, with fabulous far reaching views across green meadows where horses peacefully graze, towards Dartmoor.

Situated adjacent to a small caravan site with only 5 pitches, and close to a golf course and fishing site, this cottage offers a quiet bolthole for walkers, cyclists and countryside lovers.

The cottage is detached, spacious and flooded with light.

There are also some superb reminders that this lodge was an art gallery in the past, with stunning local artwork available to purchase if you feel tempted.

The open plan living space with cosy woodburning stove looks out to the moors, as does the superking double bedroom which is sure to give you a comfy nights sleep.

After a day in the countryside, relax on the patio in your little private garden and fire up the barbecue for some local Devon produce.

Close by is the small town of Okehampton with plenty of amenities, including a heritage railway and the Granite Way cycle track & which has the added benefit of being able to hire good quality bikes at Sourton.

Walkers can enjoy the many fantastic routes nearby over Dartmoor National Park.

This is a wonderful escape from the hurly burly.

About the location

OKEHAMPTON

Exeter 23 miles.

Okehampton is a busy market town on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park and near the highest and most dramatic areas of the moor, where Yes Tor rises to a height above 2000 feet. To the north of Okehampton are some beautiful rolling Devon hills where small farming villages nestle amidst woods and fields with plenty of gently flowing rivers. The fabulous Roadford Reservoir offers a multitude of watersport activities and fishing opportunities. Okehampton has a prominent medieval castle overlooking a wooded river valley, the Museum of Dartmoor Life and Okehampton train station, which has been restored to its 1950s glory: The Dartmoor Line now operates a service between Okehampton and Exeter every hour, 7 days a week. The town also has access to fabulous walks and Simmons Park where you’ll find a children’s adventure playground. This area of Devon has plenty of farm shops and country inns serving good food where visitors can spend time relaxing and unwinding amongst unspoilt countryside.
