Oyster Bay Lodge

The lodge was in a perfect spot the view was beautiful.

the lodge was spotless the beds where really comfortable we had a wonderful 2 weeks and we have booked again for next year

It was a good property but again travelling to it and finding the minimum cleaning equipment and no milk or any basic items .

Why don’t they add this and charge for it or even give the option to pay. Site was good with pubs and walks close by. The biggest problem with this was the electrics what light switch done what.the tv had a mind of its own and just switched on and lost channels with nobody even near the remote. Heating was good but for some reason when you put it back on the wall it wouldn’t work. Please note for a big fancy cooker you need matches to light it. Dog owners just to let you know this site will put your dog into sensory overload squirrels deer rabbits everywhere. One of mine was an springer .Also to the rear of the property there were hundreds of nuts all over it. We blocked it off so the dogs could not get to them as we did try and remove them but it was a losing battle.

The Lodge fell way short of its 4 star rating.

The carpets smelt of dogs covered by a deodoriser, which triggered our friends asthma. Settees and carpets were dirty and stained The kitchen was shabby We contacted the Owner about the conditions. it took 2 days to move to clean accommodation, which we had to leave a day short of our original booking. We have tried contacting Sykes through their complaints procedure and have had no contact from them. Holiday ruined! James

We had a fab stay at oysterbay lodge,,its a home from home,,although we had some heavy showers it did not dampen our holiday ,,it was quiet and peaceful just what we needed to recharge our batteries

Big and comfortable lodge with a beautiful view.

It's in a nice area, so don't have to go far for a lovely walk. Very highly recommended!

Lovely lodge in a great setting comfortable and clean, could do with a smart tv five remotes but no book telling you what there for.

No basics like bin liner dish cloth etc.

Woodland walks, pitch n put golf course, two pubs and a tea room all within walking distance. What’s not to love?

every thing first class.

As always the site and all the surrounding areas stunning. only draw back my wife had to go to Dumfries hospital with a broken shoulder fell whiles we visited Sweetheart Abbey. Hospital second to none. Servise and politeness brillient. unfortunately we had to leave on the Thursday instead of Friday. we will be visitting the area again

Lovely, clean and well equipped holiday home.

Fantastic views from a safe, secure and gated veranda ( ideal for children or dogs). Positioned on a relatively private plot on a classy holiday park consisting of a landscaped hillside of mature trees, conifers and rhododendrons. Within very easy reach of the stunning villages, coves and coastal paths in this area. Just one niggle; whilst the living room/diner/kitchen area is very spacious the master bedroom is a bit on the small side……that said it wouldn’t stop us from staying in Oyster Bay Lodge again.

Wow, Wow, Wow.

This property is under promoted.. What a fabulous home, with fabulous views, and all situ beneath the most beautiful skies I've ever seen. So serene, only birdsong by day and Owl Orchestras by night...just perfect. The property was well maintained, exceptionally clean and looked amazing. Beds were so comfy, Showers had great pressure, it was so practically perfect in every way. I yearn to return to continue exploring the magical Galloway,. So dont swipe by this accomodation guys...its a cracker !!!

We really enjoyed our week holiday in Oyster Bay.

.bright and airey..very comfortable..private decking area.. Regular visitors to the area for over 20 years..we will stay again when we return.

Fabulous place to recuperate.

Heating not working one night.

It only took 2 phone calls problem solved.The lodge very comfortable, clean and adequately equipped. One or two small problems needing attention ie one radiator not working at all shower in en_, suite far to hot unable to control as cold water flow not working Otherwise a quiet and enjoyable stay.

I hadn't wanted to post this review and have been waiting since 28th Dec 2024 after messaging again 3rd Jan and 10th Jan for a response from Sykes in hope of getting some reply.

We arrived at the property at 5.30pm on Christmas Eve, the property was cold on arrival, 2 of the thermostats were hanging off the radiators so no way of controlling the temperatures on those, on putting the tv on there wasn't any signal, and considering we wanted to spend Christmas relaxing watching tv it wasn't a good start. We phoned the owner who couldn't really help apart from phoning the site warden. The warden (Paul) came and spent a couple of hours but couldn't get it working, I felt bad for him after all it was late Christmas Eve, he said he would come back on Christmas morning. I decided to get everything ready for out Christmas dinner, the cooker was an absolute disgrace and everything was thick with grease, worse still no cleaning products to clean it with apart from wipes which I had bought. No roasting tin, baking trays full of food and grease and the cutlery in the drawer wasn't clean. I put everything in the dishwasher. The cupboards with the pans next to the cooker were also thick with grease. Armchair could do with a good clean. I know lots can be due to previous guests, however everything should be checked before guests arrive. It's not how we want to be spending Christmas Eve. Christmas morning Paul came again and had a mess about with the tv and discovered that the aerial box outside was swinging in the wind and full of rust and water, so he spent a while trying to get it sorted for us and eventually late lunchtime he did a temporary fix, it was a little hit and miss and for much of the time the signal would just drop which could've been weather related or the fact the aerial did need replacing/repairing. We didn't pay cheap for the lodge over the festive period and apart from us bringing our own things for Christmas there was no welcome pack or sign of Christmas in there and after reading previous reviews we were so looking forward to a relaxing Christmas, the start of the break was extremely stressful, I know having tv for some isn't the be all and end all but for us with our busy lives all we wanted to do was relax and watch it and it wasn't always possible. It's a shame as the place just needs a little tlc. Beds were comfy and the location was fantastic.

Very high up, you must like walking as there are lots of banks. Shame we never got to barbie

One of the single bed had a mattress past expiry date, springs were sticking when lying on it

More crockery needed ie mugs and bowls.

The lodge is beautifully situated within the Caravan Park, with magnificent views from the well-furnished decking/BBQ area.

The lodge itself is spacious and very well appointed. The soft furnishings and decor are in lovely condition and the kitchen is an absolute joy to work in (so my wife tells me!!) Bedrooms and toilets are more than adequate and both have the benefit of a walk-in dressing room. "Oyster Lodge", being only 20 minutes walk (3 minutes drive) from the nearest hotel is veritably a home from home.

This lodge was absolutely brilliant there was all you needed in the lodge .

Very clean and modern worth every penny .Hunter my Newfoundland loved it .only gripe the gate was broken and he got his head stuck. The gentleman fixed it for us with in the hour .

The lodge has everything you need and is very spacious.

The views from the deck are amazing- hopefully the bushes are kept low. Very clean also You can walk to the harbour village of Kippford in 20 mins where there are 2 pubs. Lots of great coastal walks and the roads are quiet for cycling.

heating did'nt work properly came on at bedtime, couldnt get electric fire to work properly telly very poor signal picture kept breaking up.

site staff had 2 goes at setting heating times, ended up on 24 hours. i didnt realise how steep the site was so never managed to walk my dog.got fed up it so came home a day early

Beautiful clean and comfortable lodge with amazing views.

Beds comfortable, kitchen equipped with everything needed. Showers spacious and plenty of hot water. Caretaker on site to assist with any problems.

A very comfortable lodge that is very clean, well equipped, and with beautiful views from the lounge/ front decking area on clear days.

It is furnished really nice and for the time of year was lovely and warm. It is in a good location for local walks especially the walk through the forest to Rockcliffe which starts at the top of the coastal park. Kippford itself is only around 15 minutes walk with a nice dog friendly pub (The Anchor). The only minus was the WiFi was weak and didn’t work very well at all but this wasn’t a major problem for us.

Clean and comfortable and everything you need provided. Stunning views. Might be worth a mention the site next door is the same post code so this is where sat. nav, initially sent us but soon remedied :)

I have downrated “comfort” only because the king-size bed mattress was rather soft and probably needs to be replaced.

In all other respects the lodge was immaculate, well appointed and really comfortable, with lovely homely touches in the decor, pictures and lovely nick-knacks. We thoroughly enjoyed our week’s stay at Oyster Bay Lodge.

Lovely property, magnificent view from the seating area.

A couple of small things need fixing up but generally excellent. Also really quiet, lovely walks and just up the road to the beach at SunnyHills. We Lso visited Bainloch Deer Park which is a magnificent experience. All in all a lovely relaxing week.

Oyster bay Lodge was amazing- better than we expected.

Spotlessly clean and everything you could possibly imagine was provided. Beautiful open plan kitchen and living area. My children enjoyed playing outside on the deck. Such a lovely, peaceful setting. We walked down to Kippford - quite a steep walk back pushing a buggy! We particularly enjoyed a breakfast and 4x4 tour around Bainloch deer park- less than 10 min away.

Oyster Bay is a clean and comfortable lodge.

Facilities are very good. The lodge park is lovely too. Ideally situated for exploring Dumfries and Galloway.

A home from home is what to expect at Oyster Bay Lodge.

The open plan setting of the living/kitchen area is perfect. Fully equipped kitchen with everything you could need, breakfast bar for 2 and dining table for 4 people. Plenty seating on comfortable sofas to chill and watch the flat screen TV of an evening. Double bedroom with en-suite was comfortable AND a walk in wardrobe was a welcome surprise. Would definitely recommend this accommodation. A particular nod to the owner Andy who helped us out greatly. We were caught in some bad weather and he organised transport for my girlfriend and dogs while I waited to be recovered. First class *****

The lodge was wonderful.

It's light, airey, very comfortable and the facilities available were way more than I expected. The open plan living area and kitchen had everything and more than I could have wanted with great views through the picture windows. I didn't use the patio equipment as I was there in December. It may have been bitterly cold outside but I was cosy inside. There was plenty of lighting in the bedroom, which makes a change to many other places I have stayed. The en-suite has a really good shower and a modern table top style sink. I liked that, not necessary but just gave that feeling of quality and style. Lashings of hot water. The bed was so comfy too and I slept really well as a result. The park is beautifully laid out on a steep hill meaning that the lodges are each in their own little spot with nearby ones being either above or below so there are neighbours but there is privacy. I loved the fact that there was a box of dog biscuits for the 4 legged residents! The whole experience was such a pleasant surprise. Would I book this lodge again. DEFINITELY!

Nice lodge on a beautiful site however there was a lot of dog hair which came up in clumps when you walked around the carpets with trainers on, although we had a dog with us the hair was long and light coloured Perhaps you require a more powerful vacuum cleaner (or a more powerful cleaner) to ensure that it has all gone before the next guests arrive Other than that is is a lovely lodge

Lovely well equipped very comfortable property, comfortable beds, and constant hot water with two very powerful showers and a bath.

In a lovely location and very close to the beautiful Kippford sea front with great walks from your door.

Kippford Coastal is a lovely park.

The lodges and caravans are well spaced and shrubbery ensures privacy. Oyster Bay lodge was a beautiful well equipped property providing comfort and catering for our every need. It was in a great position on the park with fabulous views to the distant hills. A great place to relax. To be fair I think our two grandchildren aged 12 and 10 found it a bit quiet compared to some parks we have stayed on but they spent some time most days on the assault course and using the football nets. All told it was a great holiday and for the first time in many visits to Scotland we didn't see a spot of rain which was a great bonus.

Lovely luxury Holiday Home, enjoyed our time there, weather was pretty mixed, but plenty places to visit.

I would highly recommend this lodge, we will be returning in the near future.

Fantastic location.

Lovely view from the property across to the hills. Great walks locally and a local pub that does fantastic food. Extremely comfortable inside the property with plenty of room especially as there were only two of us. Well located for Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright which are both well worth visiting even early in the season when not everything is yet open.

Lovely comfortable accommodation with fantastic views from the lounge.

Plenty of room with each of the bedrooms having walk in wardrobes. We are looking forward to our return in May.

Lovely lodge with great access to coastal and forest walks.

Managed to spot red squirrels and deer in the forest behind the lodge.

The accommodation was excellent in general, spacious, clean.

We only had a couple of minor concerns that could improve the rental. An iron & ironing board would be useful & bigger bath towels. Besides this we were very happy with our holiday & the rental

Beautiful clean site but too quiet.

Quiet steep in places like the walk upto the dog walks.

The accommodation itself was great - the holiday park did not have any shop for small provisions which would have helped as the nearest town wasn't that close.

This is a lovely lodge on a pristine holiday park The views are breathtaking and the outside decking area is enclosed and not directly overlooked, so felt private and safe for our dog.

The gas barbecue is an added bonus and it was lovely sitting out on a night and having our breakfast in the sun on a morning. There were lots of walks from the park, including the forest walk to Kippford, where there were two decent pubs, both dog friendly. The park itself is on quite a steep hill, which could be a problem for some people, although it was easy to drive round. The lodge had everything we needed for our stay. It was clean, very comfortable and well equipped. We had a lovely stay and didn’t want to leave. Highly recommended!
