Kestrel Lodge

Lovely little holiday lodge.

The kitchen comes fully equipped and there is basically everything you might need for a stay. The TV and dvd player is nice as the WiFi and signal is poor for this area. I’d recommend this lodge to people wanting to explore Dumfries and the surrounding areas. Short drive to town and very quiet place to stay. Thanks :)

The accommodation itself was adequate but it needed some TLC inside and out.

Unfortunately, there was no WI-FI and looking back at the visitors book, there hadn't been any since March. Comments in the book about wi-fi and cleanliness, clearly hadn't been read and acted upon. The outside was terrible. The lovely view was blocked as the hedges clearly hadn't been cut for months. Weeds and dead plants everywhere. Totally unsuitable for young children. The outside chairs were covered in bird muck and obviously hadn't been cleaned between handover, as was stated would happen, on the paperwork in the accommodation. The decking leading up the front door was sloping and rotting and coming away from its fixings. On contacting the owners, it was clear that they hadn't inspected their property for a long time. This property was the most unkempt accommodation amongst all the others in the area. Overall, very disappointing and a waste of our money.

Large space good for families with pets, nice location quiet and only a 10/15 minute drive to a supermarket.

Property was fairly clean, no WiFi was a big let down as I had online meetings to attend whilst staying here so wouldn’t have booked if I’d known before hand - looks like it’s been down for months too judging by the guest book comments.

We had a lovely stay in the lodge, plenty of space for our family of 4.

Lovely location, the children enjoyed watching the birds and cows! Plenty to do in the local area to keep them occupied too. Lodge is clean and well equipped (except for Wi-Fi so make sure you have plenty of mobile data, that was the only drawback!). Thanks!

The lodge was economically priced and comfortable.

The only negative was that there was no broadband. However we had alternative provision. Happy to return Mr McC

This place is scruffy had to go and buy pans baking trays I wouldn't use the ones that where lifting in dirty grease chairs screws kept coming out carpet hanging to bits 2 setter sofa which is a bed settee lifting with hair toilet seat everytine you used it you where nearly on the floor I could go on and on I have photos of everything have a cheek to say £300 good house keeping bond they want to pay me £300 for deep clean the place I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone

Quite spot with lovely walks from the door. The owners were brilliant, can’t fault there helpfulness. Lovely little stay for two adults, a baby and two doggies.

we have stayed in these lodges for 6 years now but the first time at this one these are great lodges at a area to stop loads to do and see thumbs up we will be booking again thankyou for a great holiday

A nice comfortable lodge in a quiet location .

Everything there that you needed and parking easy, Location good, not far from Dumfries or the Solway coast. Would definitely go again.

Kestrel lodge provided us with a perfect place to unwind and the wildlife [mainly birds] was very entertaining.

A lovely log cabin with enclosed outdoor space ideal for dogs and us on sunny days !

Light and airy cabin and quiet location. Beautiful countryside with short journey times to various walks. One BIG negative for us was the lack of recycling facilities, but presumably nothing the owners can do about that. A lack of power points in the twin bedded room. ie bedside lamps but no where to plug them in !! In summary a fab holiday cabin.

Tranquil Waking to birds outside was a lovely way to start the day. Beautiful views and watching the sheep was very calming. Beds were comfortable Kitchen had all you would need. Would recommend.

Only downside was the weather but it was February.

Kestrel Lodge had all we needed for a comfortable stay. Dogs made welcome, enclosed garden meant we could open patio doors and let them out. Cafes, places to visit and shops just a drive away. Woodland walk on doorstep. Would recommend and we would definitely book again.

Beautiful lodge everything we needed was in the lodge.

Location was very good and very quiet 5-10 mins drive into Dumfries of you needed a shop etc. The lodge was very clean inside a couple of small cosmetic things to be put right but livable as it stands. But we would go back in a heartbeat.

This is an attractive lodge in a lovely area however, it is tired and in need of an upgrade.

There was some issues with cleanliness, greasy pans, sticky floors and windows that had not been cleaned inside or out for a long time but the sun shone and the number and variety of birds was amazing.

This was our 2nd stay at kestrel lodge and we enjoyed our stay, noticed that the outside wasnt as good and a lot of maintenance needed doing the ramp at front door was loose and coming away from side of lodge,steps from decking was falling apart we had to be careful.

the weeds where growing everywhere. A nest above the back door meant the droppings where all over the decking which wasnt the nicest to sit beside at patio table, we did try to clean it up but no brush in lodge meant could only clean it a bit. Whoever stayed before us had tramped droppings on carpet just inside the door,it was a bit of a nightmare stepping over the droppings in case we made it worse. The lodge is a bit tired looking but it was comfortable as a base to travel round Dumfries and Galloway.

The lodge is in a beautiful location with easy access to many attractions / walks etc.

We loved our stay however the lodge could do with a little tlc as the outside decking was rotten and loose in places, and the exterior paint peeling. Inside the carpet was very stained and the chairs worn and stained. Good points the beds were comfy, all utensils provided, TV in lounge and main bedroom with Now TV, plenty of hot water and washer dryer, games, books, dvds, dog treats, bird seed and a welcoming bottle of wine. We were a family of 4 and the lodge had enough space for us though we spent a lot of time outside as the weather was beautiful and the view watching the birds, cows and sheep was relaxing.

Setting was brilliant force on the decking lots of beautiful birds and lamb's gave us visit every morning only downside lock not working on toilet duvet at big thin but hey I'm 70 so feel the cold otherwise great break nice surroundings would definitely come again

A lovely lodge, beautiful surrounding, calming atmosphere.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and will definitely be back.

An earlier check-in and mabe an hour later to check out 9oclock is very early oh and a hairdryer I forgot mine dogs n birds well looked after but a bottle of water in fridge for the humans would have been a nice touch

Frankly it is bloody ridiculous that a period of 7 and a half hours is needed (9.00am - 4.30pm) to deep clean those premises. A thorough cleaning could be achieved in less than half that time and guests allowed in earlier and to leave later. Until these parameters are changed for holiday properties, we won't be bothering to book again.

Lodge clean but tired in a lot of places especially outside

We enjoyed our stay at Kestral lodge it was clean and comfortable which had all we required for our stay.

But unfortunately the exterior did not match what was portrayed on your website.Decking that was in need of repair and painting , cracked and wobbly step from the decking. wood holding gate latch loose, Birds nest (Swallow/Swift ) under eaves at apex of roof right above the patio opening door with bird droppings down onto the decking and onto one of the chairs. As for the view well I would have needed a periscope to see over the overgrown hedge .The exterior of the lodge is in need of a lot of TLC. But we enjoyed our stay at Kestral lodge but would have been nice if exterior had matched the pictures on the website,

A lovely, cosy, comfortable little cabin with beautiful surroundings and entertaining animal and bird neighbours.

We wanted to live in it

A very good lodge which was very comfortable with excellent views over fields with sheep and lambs, cows and calves and plenty of woldlife.

There are many walks nearby as well and the lovely town of Dalbettie and the city of Dumfries very near - an excellent position. The shower did not work (or we could not work out how to work it. The 4:30pm entrance and 9:00am departure were complications in arriving and , more so, departing.

Kestrel Lodge is in a very quiet, peaceful, beautiful location, very rural.

The lodge has everything you will need for a wonderful stay. There are not any shops near to the lodge so I would advise doing a food shop on your way to the lodge.

Very well equipped and safe for the dog as enclosed. Many homely touches . Would book again. Just wish there were recycle bins at the site.

Lovely lodge a little cold when we got there and no instructions for turning on fire but owner got back to us very quickly lovely girl After that it was a lovely stay superb location friendly neighbours lovely walks would come again x

Lovely warm cosy stay.

We were very happy with the place and it has a nice view. It was very clean - many thanks for that. Fantastic weather helped. Please remove the reference to a bus stop in the instructions on how to find the place - there isn't one!

Quiet small site, no amenities on site, but the lodge was well equipped.

All you needed was nearby, along with the beautiful scenery.

Our stay was everything we hoped for, specifically in these times.

Quiet, cosy, tranquil, beautiful walks and views and the lodge was very well equipped, it had everything we needed. Booking of the lodge was very straight-forward and the information about the lodge, i.e. directions, how to gain entry, etc was very easily relayed to us and easy to follow. No requirement to contact anyone with any queries, issues, etc.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kestrel Lodge and would return in the future to continue to explore this lovely part of Scotland.

The lodge was very comfortable and we were kept entertained by the regular visitors at the bird feeder, it was lovely to see a nuthatch one evening. The farm shop at Beeswing had everything we needed for the week and the cafe was a great place for coffee and cake out in the sunshine. The break was just what we were wanting and we felt that the owner had made the lodge as safe as possible.

It's just spot on. We needed a peaceful, relaxing break after several months of lockdown and it delivered in every way. The outside seating area looks onto a field full of sheep and cows. Listening to them along with a plethora of birds from the hedgerow was just perfect. The accomodation was outstanding. Every need was catered for and it felt like home from home. We can't wait to come back!

The lodge overlooks a field with sheep and cows and there are numerous types of birds that can be viewed from the comfort of the lodge.

We had a lovely time, the lodge had everything we needed, we received good communication re arrival / directions etc The enclosed garden area is ideal for.

The dog.

The lodge is in the most idea place, if you want to totally chill out.

You can either sit on decking and watch the cows/sheep in the field, who’s antics make you smile. Or watch all the wonderful birds just sitting on the hedge and bushes..or if you fancy being energetic there’s the walks all around. We had a good few days of rain, but there’s still lots to see through the patio doors...TV.....never watched it....too busy looking out!! Because of coved 19 we were wary to go self catering, but we need not have worried, all precautions had been taken by owners, the lodge was immaculate, and so welcoming, we need not have worried. Can’t wait to revisit.

It's just as good for a winter break as a summer holiday. It's been our second visit this year, and I'm sure we'll be back next year.

Loved Kestral Cottage.

It is in a quiet area, comoact accommodation but adequate for tge average family. Situated just outside Dumfries it offers calm and relaxing holiday a chance to get away but close enough to various attractions so as.not to be boring. Very clean and well kept beds were comfortable and tge cottage was warm. Will probably book again for next year.

Lovely sized, well equipped, very peaceful even when the local wildlife tries peeking through the hedge to you. Highly recommend if you’ve a dog as enclosed garden.

Everything you need is there to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

The site was as central as it could be for visiting castles, ruins, beaches, and so much more. The garden has a cow field adjacent to it. Even though we come from a fairly rural town, we all were kept entertained by them. We'll definitely be back.

The accommodation was clean well equipped and welcoming.

Close to Dumfries and other local sites. I would recommend this cottage to others as a place to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside.

The lodge and location are great.

we really enjoyed our stay. The only thing I had to do was move the microwave off the fridge onto the work surface as my 5' wife had trouble reaching it and she forgot her high heels
