Moyle Lodge

Moyle lodge is in a beautiful setting, morning walks into the woods are plentiful and varied, enough to have a different one every day.

The lodge is so easy to recognise from its photo, being the first of only two wooden lodges, and having the two deer sculptures immediately in front is a lovely outlook when sitting on the veranda sheltered from any rain. The only traffic you might see is a car going slowly past to park next door at the other Lodge. There are four bungalow type of lodges/homes before reaching the Lodge but this can certainly not be called a Holiday Park! Some owners live here full time. It’s very calm, quiet and relaxing. Moyle Lodge feels cosy and rapidly warms up on chilly days. The kitchen is thoughtfully equipped for cooking and cleaning and there’s always hot water. The dining area is spacious (it has wall plugs near enough to use the table for working at laptops) and sitting having an evening meal there is particularly nice. (I’m 5’9” and I burst out laughing when I first sat in a chair because like a young child I barely reached “eating at the table height”

The details are inaccurate so it was a little difficult to find the cabin as there are now 6.

So it is 5th as you drive in not 1st. Once found I was delighted. Here is the bit for publication the rest is for you and the owner: The setting is amazing and so tranquil. The weather helped if course. The swallows nesting in the eaves were amazing and there were many wonderful birds around and delightful bunnies. I heard a cuckoo calling. Lovely views. It is a short walk to the glorious town wood and from there not far to the garden centre cafe where dogs are allowed in the outside area only. I used to live in the area so catching up with folk and revisiting old haunts and recommend Threave Castle where the Ospreys are nesting and Threave gardens. Good shops in Castle Douglas. The cabin is well equipped and comfortable. If my health holds out I would stay there again.

Myself and my partner stayed At Moyle Lodge and we absolutely loved it.

The cabin itself is absolutely beautiful. So cosy with plenty of room and character. The location is beautiful with plenty of walkways to explore. The only issue we had is that we wished we'd booked for longer. We will definitely be visiting again. Our dogs loved it too. The welcome treats that were waiting for us in the kitchen were very much appreciated. We would highly recommend Moyle Lodge.

We had a nice stay at Moyle Lodge.

It was pretty well equipped. There was plenty of hot water and heating. The only disappointing thing was that there is supposed to be a pub within about half a mile and a shop. This is inaccurate. I have found this with other holiday cottages as well. It is not good to think you can walk somewhere when you can’t.

2nd time here, unfortunately I don't think we'll return, main reason is the new static caravan site they're building in the next field (30 statics) we were told and the one entry/ exit for all cars to and from it past the cabin.

The cabin was good. perhaps some maintenance on the entrance ramp needed and an issue with the outside waste drainage.

Another great stay here at Moyle Lodge, would recommend it to anyone, in a beautiful place right by the forest, 5 stars.

We had a pleasant say at Moyle Lodge and enjoyed the wooded area that we loved walking with our dog.

On the maintenance side of things a few doors need a wee bit TLC. The one negative was the amount of lorries that were using the private road into the lodges, which was noisy and will long term damage the road surface. Regards Robert

I love Moyle Lodge - this is my second visit and I wasn’t disappointed.

The location is quiet and backs on to Dalbeattie Woods- Dalbeattie is in walking distance but I use it as a base just off the A75 to go sight seeing. Will be booking again - it’s my happy place

A Postcode from yourselves would of been easier as our sat nav had issues with the address alone and our only issue we had with the property was the tv remote insisted in operating the fire.

Beautiful lodge in a great location.

Communications were great, including a recommendation for a local pub for food. The lodge is stunning, well kept and really comfortable. If I was going to be back in the area I would definitely check for availability here first.

An absolutely fantastic lodge set in idyllic surroundings with everything you need to make your stay amazing.

The views are stunning, the woods and trails are right outside the door. Genuinely can’t find any faults at all. Can’t wait for next year

Our 14th holiday at Moyle.

Still as comfortable as ever. Lovely veranda where you can sit and eat your meal. Comfortable sofa to sit and watch tv. Great to watch the wildlife. These are just a few things we like about it. The owner is very helpful if you have any problems.

Great cottage in a beautiful location.

Lovely to have nature surround you. Ponies, rabbits and swallows in abundance. Very comfortable with a welcoming and homely feel. Our dog did not want to leave. So glad we came for a week and would love to return.

Cottage ideal situated for what we wanted and places to get to.

No issues with anything. Walks around cabin in behind the woods we're perfect for 2 border collies. Quiet and liked listening to birds having squabbles in the rafters outside cabin,

The lodge is simply amazing

Great location, plenty of good forest walks and lots of good golf courses in the area.

We were extremely lucky with the weather enjoying plenty of sunshine and not a drop of rain. The chalet is well equipped, very generous gifts were provided which were much appreciated after a long drive. Would recommend.

We have just come home from a fantastic stay at Moyel Lodge.

Everything was just perfect. Just one thing could be improved and that is the WiFi.

We had a very comfortable stay, lodge was very well equipped.

Loved walks nearby and the shetland ponies kept our young granddaughter amused. We walked to Brambles Cafe for a great breakfast. Also can recommend Kippford Marina and the Anchor pub which was a short drive away. The red kite feeding centre and deer feeding station were also great fun. We were blessed with great weather, and many thanks for the welcome pack, wouldn't hesitate to recommend this lodge.

Another fantastic stay here, it's a lovely place and fantastic if you have a dog / dogs.

Always a pleasure to stay here, and a lovely touch with the shortbread, cup cakes, and especially the real iorn brew, thank you. Will be booking again later in the year as we love it there, did a couple of little jobs such as the back door not locking on the catch, and catching the lock when closing, fine now, and fixed the toilet roll holder downstairs, hope you didn't mind, but it was my job haha. Anyway once again cannot praise how lovely it is and the surroundings. William & Carole.

Beautiful Lodge.

Really comfy and very well equipped. The lovely welcome pack including cake biscuits irun bru was a lovely touch and very welcomed. Quiet and peaceful location and would book again. Owner telephoned day before due to leave and offered free extra night due to bad storms recently which was very kind of her.

Had a brilliant stay in a lovely lodge that had all the amenities we needed to be self sufficient for our week away.

It was clean and tidy and the host communication was excellent. They definitely went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. We walked, cycled and ran from the door, without the need to be on busy main roads at all with Dalbeattie forest either side of the property. We visited the dog friendly cafe, which was approx 100 yards away and had a lovely breakfast and went into Dalbeattie where there were plenty of small shops to keep us stocked up. Overall a great stay and thank you to the hosts.

Arrived to moyle lodge,to a stunning place.

when we walked in it was all decorated with Xmas decorations,it's a lucky touch,with a few treats etc.the lodge was so comfy &warm.so peaceful. It's a wonderful experience & definitely would come again,thank you so much

Loved our 2nd visit to moyles lodge wife and dogs didnt want to come home beautiful location only 10 mins walk into dalbeattie only letdown for us was very poor internet if uv got kids with gadgets etc but but will deffo be back

We had a fantastic time at Moyle Lodge.

The walks into Dalbeattie Forest were terrific and our dog loved every minute. Within walking distance of the town which has not one but two brilliant butchers. Superb beach at Sandyhills is only a 10 minute drive away (check the tide times) Well worth a trip to Gatehouse of Fleet. Our dog insists on coming back so we must go along with such a well thought out decision

The lodge had all of the essentials that we needed.

It was clean and tidy. We loved the hamper basket with goodies. The dog treats were most welcome thank you. Although beds were soft the linen was really nice. It was a shame we couldn’t see any recycling facilities. The bunnies outside entertained the dogs no end. An ideal quiet location on the doorstep of dog walks and local town. The milk in the fridge after a long journey was very much appreciated.

Moyle Lodge was the perfect location for our week away.

We found it to be quiet yet well appointed with Dalbeattie in walking distance. The fabulous Dalbeattie forest became our regular walk with the dog. The Lodge itself suited our needs - it was warm - comfortable and clean. We used it as our base to travel around Dumfries and Galloway and were lucky to be blessed with great weather and stunning sunsets We would highly recommend the facility and would definitely consider booking another visit

Lovely lodge.

Very peaceful. Loved watching the swallows , rabbits and ponies. Great part of the Galloway coast for walking and relaxing. Shame about the weather

Excellent base to explore the area.

Accommodation was very comfortable and had everything needed, plus some. Great location (Dalbeattie Forest) and we’ll worth a walk to Plantain Loch. Weather was bad but the accommodation was so comfortable it didn't matter!! Nice touch on arrival (milk, cale and Irn Bru!) and table was set. Lots of games and books provided. Dalbeattie right on the doorstep for food etc Worth checking out beaches near Kippford. Kirkidbright worth a visit as is Nee Galloway area. Definitely going to go again as there was so many places to visit.

The television was poor.

WI fi not good. As the weather was mostly good we didn't need to be inside much so nor a bit of problem for us. The fire was ineffectual when it turned chilly in the evening It was well equipped iin a lovely quiet place. There was a smell of dogs in the main bedroom when we arrived. Fortunately we opened all the windows for the rest of the day and it did improve. The fact that dogs had been upstairs on the carpets would put me off booking again. However we had a very enjoyable holiday and loved the wildlife and the woods. Also the lovely beaches close by.

This was our 13th holiday at Moyle.

The owner were great, very helpful and friendly.

Loved this lodge and the fact it sits on the edge of the Galloway forest The lodge had brilliant facilities, tastefully decorated and was very comfortable.

I’ve never slept on a more comfortable bed. Every thing you need is in the lodge and I’ll recommend it to everyone I’d be very likely to book Moyle Lodge again. Julie Johnston

Lovely lodge.

In fantastic setting. Lovely touch with welcoming pack for us and the dog treats. Only down side is lack of a waist bin outside the property. If you want a relaxing holiday then this is the place. There is 4 static caravans on the site but this was was not a problem to us .

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Moyle Lodge.

Pros: Quiet location with swallows in eaves. Lots of wildlife eg ponies, rabbits & red kites. Dog-friendly. Comfortable couch & beds. Welcome tray (not suitable for diabetics). Cons: Lodge would benefit from a deep clean & better wifi. Limited hot water if you like baths. LG television remote also controls Dimplex fire. 4 other lodges not mentioned in details (2 were occupied & 2 were for sale).

We had a lovely holiday with the forest within walking distance from the lodge.

The lodge was lovely clean and comfortable. The dog treats and tennis balls were a big hit with our spaniel. The photos and description of the lodge need updating as if I had known there were static caravan right next door I would not of booked. The pictures look like it's completely on its own so felt a bit cheated regarding this. Luckily for us no one was in them and the other lodge was empty .

A lovely cabin to stay in well equipped and comfortable was a lovely welcome pack on arrival little treats for doggies with plenty of balls for play time cabin is situated on a beautiful site we were just watching for all the wildlife all the time which was plentiful the ponies were wonderful with there young was a wonderful experience thank you for letting us stay at your peaceful tranquil cabin we all well refreshed would love to return soon

We had a very enjoyable time in moyle lodge ,the location is wonderful ,for walking trails and eating places ,especially kippford 2 lovely hotels with beer gardens and lovely food, if you want a relaxing retreat Moyle lodge is for you .

This is our second time staying at Moyle lodge and it was as good as we remembered.

We had a great holiday at Moyle Lodge but the pictures need to be updated to take account of the other lodges now next door as while we were there they were empty it has put us of rebooking as they were too close if there are guests staying in the other lodge.

It has everything required and is a great place stay for dog owners,

Very comfortable, nice surroundings Very peaceful On the negative side it needs a bit of maintenance taps loose, and needs a bit of a spring clean ie crockery and cutlery and glassware need attention.

Having said that I would definitely recommend the cabin and hope to re visit next year.

It was beautifully quiet and peaceful and the cottage had all the amenities we could have wanted. Lovely location and the Shetland ponies in the neighbouring field were a plus for the kids! Great walks in the forest from the doorstep and we also managed several 8km trail runs too.

We had a good stay , very quiet at the time .

Good walks from the door . My son enjoyed that . Overall really good . the only gripe was in the pictures it shows you have a empty field at the side of you , but theres been 3 lodges built at the side about 20 feet away ,. Luckily these was empty when we was there . built to close if you ask me . Bit intrusive .. But overall good trip . Shops 5 mins away ..

What a place, felt like home from home and Bea Dogg also really loved the place.

Waking up to the birds tweeting and nothing else to having a coffee on the porch it was a fantastic place and will definitely be coming back!

Had a lovely stay, lodge was warm, spacious, very well equipped and stylish, with big comfy sofa for curling up on!

The owners had left lots of yummy treats for us which was very thoughtful. The walks from the lodge were fantastic, you could walk for miles on the forest tracks without meeting a soul, bliss. Access was excellent, it's just outside town and we'll placed for exploring the area, and the dark skies made for beautiful stargazing too. A very enjoyable week!

Stayed for the Christmas week and when we arrived we was blown away , the lodge was decorated tastefully and with lovely extras for a relaxing Christmas , we didn’t have the best of weather but we can’t change that , the forest at the back has lovely walks all marked routes for directions , took our two Cockerpoo’s and they loved it , highly recommend we will defiantly go again

Once again we absolutely loved our stay at Moyle lodge!

Such a beautiful peaceful place. The owners of this property go above and beyond to help with anything needed along with leaving a gorgeous hamper for our arrival. We were greeted with some lovely Christmas treats this year along with treats for the dogs and a hamper. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas this year which really helped keep the Christmas spirit going. Local shops and take aways are literally five minutes away, along with a Tesco that’s only a ten minute drive. If you drive ten minutes down the road you also have a gorgeous beach with lots of parking. Behind the lodge is and amazing walk or cycle route through the woods which is a lovely peaceful outing, that takes you along to a cafe to suit all needs. We were always fortunate to look out the window and the bunnies and Shetland ponies every morning which the kids loved. Honestly can’t fault any part of this lodge at all. We will be booking again for next year and look forward to visiting and seeing yous again. Thank you for a beautiful stay once again. Lauren & Lee

Very comfortable and cosy lodge, with good heating and kitchen facilities.

The owner left some lovly welcome items which were, well, very welcome! Pet and baby were well catered for - thank you. A couple of very small points were the sticking front door and the TV didn't always work (signal and internet connection may have been the issue and the TV remote 'select button' also turns the fire on by msitake!) These were small issues and didn't detract from a great stay.

We had a lovely stay at Moyle Lodge.

The lodge was a joy to stay in, very cute & lots of nice touches for the 2 legged and the 4 legged. Everything you could need was there, we found the beds very comfy and the shower was good. The location was great, could walk straight from the lodge into Dalbeattie Forrest which was great for early morning and night time dog walks. The herd of Shetland ponies in the nearby field was always a happy sight. There’s lots to do nearby & we really enjoyed checking the tides and heading across the causeway to Rough Island. We also took a longer drive to visit the Grey Mares Tail & the climb up was well worth it to see the view of Loch Skeen.

We really enjoyed our stay in Moyle Lodge.

First impressions were excellent as the lodge is clean, well equipped and obviously well cared for. The owner had left a lovely welcome pack which even included something for our dogs. Moyle Lodge is part of a very small development of two lodges and three park homes currently. It appears the landowner has applied to increase this - we hope this doesn't mean the local Shetland ponies get evicted as they are very cute! Being such a small development was absolutely lovely and so peaceful. The third park home is still in construction at the moment, but luckily for us there wasn't much disturbance while we were there. Moyle Lodge is excellent for dog walking. You can walk straight into the forest which was fabulous, with loads of walking trails and a small loch for doggy paddles. There are several beautiful beaches all within 5-15 mins drive. My partner enjoyed using the supplied telescope to do some star gazing. We would rebook immediately if it wasn't for the mattresses being so very soft - sadly for us this meant we didn't sleep well all week (we realise others might find them comfy). An unfortunate blip on an otherwise wonderful stayl

What an absolutely beautiful place to stay.

I highly recommend anyone wanting to get away to stay here!. The lodge is lovely and spacious yet warm and inviting. It is in the perfect location for relaxing and unwinding. There is a lodge to the left of this one but it’s still enough distance to maintain privacy. We woke up every morning to little rabbits at the front and a gathering of small Shetland ponies, which was lovely to see and they were to friendly. The owner provided us with a lovely little welcome hamper on our arrival and extra treats for our two dogs. Plenty of cleaning products available to hand sing with tea and coffee already provided. Recycling bins are close to the entrance of the site which was really handy. The village is only five minutes away and has all the shops you could possibly need whilst staying here. Along with a lovely nature walk in the woods behind the lodge (cafe with homemade meals close by). We have already rebooked and only left today! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Moyle Lodge!

It was fully equipped with all the essentials and the welcome pack was a lovely touch! We took our dog and he also had everything he needed too. We would definitely book again!

Comfortable well equipped Lodge standing alongside other holiday homes on a pretty site next to Dalbeattie Town Wood, easily accessible for several walking and cycling trails.

Shetland ponies live nearby and rabbits were hopping about just outside the window. We were treated to continuous aerobatic displays from nesting swallows and even saw a deer onsite. Excellent base for attractions inland and the coast. We had superb weather the entire week, a little too hot overnight for the winter duvet on the bed. The welcome pack was extremely generous and much appreciated and had us searching for the source of the cookies at the local bakery near Castle Douglas. The only omission we found was the lack of pegs for the whirlygig, but it saved us from washing clothes till we got home. We had a lovely holiday.

The lodge is lovely and well equipped, shame about the situation.

It is located on a new site. The person in charge on site told us it is a three year project for 180 units. The exterior photos are out of date and misleading. There was heavy machinery on site when we arrived on the Friday. Woken Saturday before 9am by the noise of a generator, sawing, drilling and hammering on the two adjacent mobile homes, which lasted all day.Sunday same again until 14.30. Monday 8am heavy machine cutting tree branches and another levelling the ground at one point directly behind the lodge. We have photos and videos of all this. Basically like staying on a building site, only any good as a base, certainly not to relax. Since our complaint to Sykes we see there is now a PLEASE NOTE: on their website.

We recently returned from Moyle, what a wonderful place, the Lodge was delightful, clean, comfortable, well equipped, the best we have ever stayed in, a lot of thought has gone into this lodge with everything designed for comfort, including a brilliant selection of novels for chilly evenings.

Get up early to see rabbits on the grass, feed the gorgeous Shetland ponies in the field outside your door and listen to the swallows nesting in the eaves, it's truly a nature lovers haven. The welcome pack was appreciated and our little Max enjoyed the treats, how did the owners know the bacon ones were his favourites? I hadn't tasted Iron Bru in years and discovered it goes well with Gin as an alternative to tonic. Castle Douglas we found to be a lovely town with some really good shops, Unfortunately we had to return home a day early as we caught a tummy bug. A great place for a rest and a peaceful getaway. Thank you to owners for everything.

The lodge itself is lovely and all you need is right there .

The only issue was the ongoing work outside of the lodge around the two new units and the two they plan to build . We had 2 days of non stop noise of diggers and tractors all day right outside the lodge which was awful . My friend and I wanted a relaxing time as we have both just had chemo so wanted to rest which we were unable to do with the constant noise and traffic . Totally spoilt our break and I won't rerun as the owners should point out about ongoing building work outside .

It was absolutely beautiful and so clean. As soon as you walk in you instantly feel relaxed. Can’t wait to book up again

We have had cottage holidays for many years and this one is by far the best!

The Lodge is beautiful. Modern, comfortable, clean and well equipped, a credit to its owners! The gift pack was a lovely surprise. The forest walk is right on the doorstep and we loved the beach walk at Portling. We had a lovely holiday, the only thing that was misleading in the listing is that the Lodge isn’t on its own. There is another lodge next to it and a couple of park homes on site right next to the lodge. We were lucky as they were empty during our stay, not sure it we would have loved the holiday as much if they had been occupied.

We had a lovely family getaway.

The lodge was comfortable, warm and had everything we wanted. The extra toiletries and treats were a thoughtful extra that were thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you.

The welcome basket had treats for humans & dogs & is such a lovely touch, thank you! The lodge is right on the edge of the woods so loads of walks right on the doorstep. Would love to stay in Moyle lodge again, hoping to book in the autumn.

Firstly I will say the lodge was warm and welcoming, very clean , beautifully furnished and everything and more that you would need for a self catering holiday.

Also I chose this particular property for its quiet location and knowing only another property was next too us and a much needed break away which would include celebrating our Wedding Anniversary. Sadly though, when we arrived at the property we were confronted by various pieces of machinery and one that was being driven ( a roller). It became obvious that ground works were being carried out around us but didnt imagine that it would effect our holiday. Apart from the weekend every day we were surrounded by work men and machinery, banging, sawing, drilling, digging and gosh knows what else. On the morning of our Anniversary we were woken at 7:45 with reverse sirens and digging, another morning, 7:30 to be exact with a chainsaw . This was not the quiet and much needed holiday my Husband and I wanted. We had to go out every day just for some solace. We also kept our living room an kitchen blinds drawn as we didnt want to see this building site every day. I have various pictures and videos of what we had to endure during our stay if you want too see them. If we had been aware of these works I would have chosen a different property, as I dont expect to pay for a holiday that isnt what it says it is.

Absolutely perfect lodge!

The attention to detail, amenities and homely feel of the lodge was just incredible. From local walking guides, board games, tea & coffee to a hamper of Scottish treats and the selection of sticks for your dog were just incredible! The lodge was cosy, and comfortable throughout! We will be back again next year for sure! Thank you!

The cabin was set in a peaceful area just by a forest walk, if you want peace and quiet definitely the place to be.

The Cabin had everything you need for selfcatering including the most comfortable beds ever. Would definitely recommend as a place to stay, we hope to book again sometime in tbe future.
