Chalet 58 - The Beach House

Whilst the property was clean and quite comfortable it definitely looks a bit tired.

The stairs were very tricky to negotiate and this should be noted in the description. It was a shame we couldn’t sit on the decking on arrival until we’d swept and scrubbed the furniture. We had an issue with a really heavily scaled kettle which was dealt with very quickly and efficiently by a member of the cleaning team. I felt the provision of an anti slip mat in the shower would improve the safety as the shower tray is very smooth. We appreciated the generously sized, good quality towels. The site overall is nicely kept though the laundry facilities were a bit beyond my capabilities as someone not very familiar with the tech required.

We had a pleasant 4 night stay in Chalet 58.

The lounge area was bright and spacious with a decent sized smart tv. Although the description says seats 6, but there are 2 sofas, a 2 and 3 seater so seats 5 max. The padding has gone on one side of the large sofa so it dips in hitting the wood which was uncomfortable, I would not describe the seating as 'plush' as it says in the description. The chalet was generally clean and fresh, all the bedding and towels provided were clean and soft, and the beds were very comfortable. An exception was the skirting and around the floor edges in the bathroom and WC which were dusty and could do with a clean and bit of simple maintenance/paint refresh.  The shower area needs some attention, the seal along the bottom is completely broken and paint is flaking away with some black areas, although the shower unit itself was good and looked new, and the cubicle is fine. All other areas of the bathroom were good. Also there were cobwebs in the back corner of the double upstairs room, and a big spider's web outside the window with a huge spider, so I was scared to open it even though it was so hot inside. 2 fans were provided, we could of done with a third, one for each bedroom. The biggest surprise was that the twin room was open plan on the landing with no door and so had no privacy, or sound/lightproof from downstairs. Maybe this is ok for young kids but we were a party of adults, so it was awkward. This should be made clear in the description or even a curtain/screen provided. Also the stairs are very steep so are difficult for older or less able people, and not a lot of hanging space, one single wardrobe upstairs, nothing downstairs, but we understand space is limited. All these things should just be in the description so people know. The kitchen is nice, bright, clean, and well equipped, it could just do with a new frying pan. The £1 coins needed for the electricity was fine, it didn't cost much, so was fair. Most of the other chalets had a patio/nice outside space to sit and relax.  Unfortunately chalet 58 has no front seating area/patio, this is probably its biggest let down, it is also sloped so difficult to put chairs out front. The back decking area is very dark underneath big trees in a dingy wooded area, so it's not very appealing and constantly covered in leaves.  It is also really close to the back of another chalet which blocks the light and view, it could do with some outside lighting. The BBQ is dirty, it was full of ash, and the grills were filthy so sadly we didn't use it, it needs a good clean or replacing. The holiday park itself doesn't have much, the pool is fine but the crazy golf is not very crazy, it's just flat and boring, and the lounge/bar is closed unless there is an event. But the grounds are quiet, clean and relaxing, and a good location for the beach and for driving to other beaches/towns. But it was difficult to find, I don't understand why they don't put a sign outside on the turning. Overall it was a nice relaxing break, and Chalet 58 is a likeable little chalet to spend a few days, but in one of the worst positions in the park. It would benefit massively with a few small improvements especially the outside space, and a front seating area where it is much more open and bright, they could probably charge a bit more with this too. We would come again, but this is a feature now having seen other chalets that we would most look for. Thank you though for a pleasant stay

The area is absolutely stunning, and we loved both the property and the surrounding properties.

It felt peaceful, safe and comfortable, and the children particularly loved being able to play outside. We also really appreciated the thoughtful extras provided, such as the puzzles, board games and DVDs. These were such a lovely touch and actually encouraged the children to put down their tablets and spend time doing the puzzles together, some of which they completed over and over again! There were, however, a few things that could be improved. We weren't keen on having to pay separately for electricity. When staying in holiday accommodation, I would usually expect utilities to be included in the price. I found myself regularly checking the electricity balance because I was worried about it running out, which added an unnecessary bit of stress to what was supposed to be a relaxing break. The cleanliness could also have been better. We found balls of dust and hair on the carpet and underneath the bed, to the point that I actually wished there had been a hoover available so I could clean it myself. The shower also appeared to have quite a lot of hair blocking the drain, meaning the shower tray filled with water very quickly and could potentially overflow if you weren't careful. Despite these issues, we chose not to complain during our three-day stay. We were enjoying ourselves, slept extremely well, felt safe and comfortable, and didn't want to make a fuss over things we could manage for such a short break. Unfortunately, what did leave a sour taste afterwards was discovering that I had been charged an additional £15 for "stained bedding". We did not leave any stained bedding, so I was very surprised by this. The only items I can think of that may have been slightly marked were small hand towels that we used as bath mats. Because the shower wasn't draining properly, it was difficult to dry off before stepping onto the floor without getting our towels wet. Combined with the dust/dirt already on the floor, this meant the small towels became slightly muddy, although nothing that wouldn't come out in a normal wash. I actually regret not raising the cleanliness issues during our stay because it feels disappointing to have overlooked them and simply got on with our holiday, only to then be charged £15 afterwards for something so minor. Overall, we genuinely had a lovely three days here and there is a lot to recommend about the property. The location is beautiful, we were comfortable, and the children had a brilliant time. It's just unfortunate that the additional charge at the end changed how we felt about what otherwise would have been a really positive experience.
