Herdie Hideaway

What a fabulous relaxing few days in a fantastic location.

We were able to travel to the Lakes in under 30 minutes, the Pennines Natural Landscape in 10 mins and the Dales were right on our doorstep. Visited & walked so many beautiful places. The local river walk right from the front door is gorgeous. The Sandford Arms is very friendly & well-stocked with great ales. Gemma is right on hand & very responsive for any issues or queries. The well kitted-out snug cottage is great & had just what was needed as a base to explore the area. The dogs absolutely loved the big garden. Our miniature dachshund could squeeze under the fencing in parts (and with rabbits around he tried!) just something to be aware of - not an issue for dogs any bigger or very little dogs that listen to their owners!

In a lovely setting.

Very comfortable, clean, decorated well with plenty of pictures. Vases of wild flowers was a lovely touch. Clothes storage in drawers under bed. Thoroughly enjoyable place to stay.

We had an amazing stay.

Everything was set up perfectly. Couldn't ask for more. Beautiful views and lovely cottage. Gemma and family were so friendly and kind to me and my son. We will certainly be booking to go again.

We absolutely loved our stay x we were made to feel very welcome - the hosts were fantastic, friendly and extremely knowledgeable of the surrounding area.

The facilities were superb for both us and our dogs. With an array of farm animals and local wildlife to observe and enjoy - sitting outside was equally enjoyable as visiting local towns and villages. We had a very peaceful and relaxing time. We will definitely be returning very soon x x x

A lovely snug and well kitted out get away.

Plenty of space for the dog to run about and Gemma was so accommodating and friendly and left little welcome treats which were very much appreciated after the journey. Dog was also welcome and not just tolerated as in some places.

I had the perfect stay here.

Gemma was absolutely lovely. The home itself is beautiful and cosy, with everything you could need. Sitting on the porch and watching the sheep and the lambs run around was the highlight. We just love the Herdie Hideaway this was our 4th stay now and we will definitely be coming back again, the enclosed garden for our dogs is essential on a doggy holiday so we can relax completely knowing our dogs are secure, this place has everything you need for a little getaway with perfect peace too, Gemma is so nice and helpful when you need her.

This is 100% our favourite place to be and definitely the dog’s favourite too.

Lovely little cottage, very peaceful, great base for exploring the surrounding area, friendly owner, enjoyed our short stay with our 2 Cockapoos.

Lovely little hideaway and Gemma was a pleasure to deal with.

Pretty area with lots of nice walks for the dog although the footpath opposite was not really usable if you are taking a dog as we had to carry her over the stiles. That apart, we really enjoyed our stay.

Gemma is the kindest soul, we had such a well thought out visit.

From little touches such as offering to get the fire and heating ready for us, checking in to make sure we were ok and the delicious little touches such as shortbread plus the ample, fully secure space for our anxious dog to run around in, the blissful views...ah we could go on and on! We can't wait to go back.

Our 3rd year at Herdies Hideaway and it never fails to disappoint ,Gemma the host is very welcoming and she cannot do enough to help you,already looking for next year.

There are some places you visit and you look back and say “That was good, but nothing very special” Well Herdie Hideaway was not like that, even the welcoming What’s app from Gemma set the tone for what it was to be.

So I can only say it was a perfect 3 night stay, even the weather played ball. The facilities were excellent, the setting was heavenly and our cocker had the time of her life in the enclosed grass area around Herdie. So enough said, I have already looked for a return visit and there’s a challenge! The fact it is so heavily booked says something, the visitors book in Herdie confirmed that, as did the reviews on Sykes. So thanks to Gemma, you have a special little hideaway in a beautiful part of the country.

A gem of a place .

Straight out of a story book. Sheep in beautiful fields .Rabbits to see early dawn playing in the tranquility. Owner Gemma was lovely. Treat on arrival even dog treats . You don't need to take anything apart from you own shower gel etc well provided . Well thought out . This small cottage is perfect for young an elderly couples. Who enjoy walking with nature Also plenty of places to explore. Looking forward to going back in the future

This is a gorgeous wee place.

It’s the perfect romantic getaway but would also be ideal to take your four legged friend to. The location is beautiful and it’s a total escape from the rush of the day-to-day. Gemma, the owner, went out of her way to make our stay extra-special from jugs of wild flowers on the window ledges, Prosecco in the fridge, fresh eggs and home baking. And there are a couple of pubs only a short walk away! ❤️

I had a lovely couple of nights at herdie hideaway.

The welcome was great from Gemma. Loads of room for the dog to enjoy outside. Everything was so clean and tidy plus comfortable. The perfect place to getaway and relax.

This was our 3rd visit to this lovely, quiet property and we will be going again soon.

If you want a calm relaxed break with stunning scenery and a large fenced off area for your dogs this is the place to come to, there are several walks straight from the doorstep too. Gemma is so friendly and accommodating and nothing is too much trouble. Make this a a must visit, you won’t be disappointed, rated 100%.

Herdie Hideaway is smaller than other cottages we have rented but for the most part good use is made of the space.

For instance there are no wardrobes but large underbed drawers provide ample space for clothing.. The kitchen facilities are adequate though I found it difficult to see inside the pans when cooking as the hob is quite high. We think minor improvements could be made in the bathroom e.g. a corner shelf in the shower to hold shampoo and shower gel, and also a towel rail adjacent to the basin. I hung my towel on the broom handle! Gemma is an excellent host, very friendly and helpful and obviously cares about the cottage and making our stay there as enjoyable as possible. The cottage is well situated and we were able to visit several places that we hadn't before and would recommend Lowther Castle and Dalmain mansion and gardens.

The Herdie Hidaway provided the perfect place to relax and unwind.

The accommodation was excellent for such a cosy space and the garden was perfect for our dog. The countryside was beautiful and we hope to return to explore it further. The Sandford Arms was dog and tummy friendly with excellent service and food. The location was perfect for exploring the local area, but with it's proximity to the A66 allowed easy access to the Lakes, Teesdale, and further. Gemma was an excellent host and our neighbours were the cutest and friendliest sheep you could want to meet.

A little gem hidden away in the beautiful Cumbrian countryside with everything you need for a peaceful retreat.

Everything you need is catered for in this charming place with huge gardens so your dog can roam free. Our dog loved the freedom. Gemma was a friendly and fabulous host, we couldn't have asked for more. Some lovely local walks from the doorstep and just 40 minutes away from the lakes, so a great base if you want to explore. Had an amazing time at Herdie Hideaway it has everything you need a lovely stay with your dogs, they have such a large enclosed area to run about in.

There's so many lovely walks close by and it was so lovely to come back and light up the log burner to have a cosy night. The pub close by serves amazing food if you fancy a night out to. Will definitely return.

The Herdie Hideaway is a haven!

The setting is wonderful, with beautiful scenery, and sheep and horses grazing in the nearby fields. There's a wood burner which makes the Hideaway very cosy, and it was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Gemma is a perfect hostess, friendly, welcoming and ready to help with anything. We loved it and will definitely be back!

This hideaway is so wonderful and quaint, a beautifully decorated cottage with all the equipment you need and the host Gemma is excellent and very attentive.

The bonus is the closed in area that is yours for the stay so the dogs can run about and you can relax. Beautiful walks nearby and the pub food is excellent too. A thoroughly recommended stay and I would love to go back

Stunning little place to explore the lakes from. My sausage dog and I were welcomed by the delightful owner, nothing was too much trouble. The place is very well equipped with thoughtful touches. Had a lovely stay at Herdie Hideaway!

Gemma gave us such a warm welcome and made sure we would settle in just fine! Very short drive from Appleby town which was lovely to walk around. Ideal location! If you have a small dog that isn’t used to sheep, i recommend bringing a long lead to let them out because ours (luckily on a lead) could slip through the gate!

Incredibly clean and well furnished the whole stay was perfect. Our host went above and beyond to make our stay a comfortable one. All round pleasure to stay. Location was perfect to visit the lakes but be far enough away from the tourist bustle. Would definitely stay again. Five out of five stars

3rd time we have been to Herdies Hideaway, Gemma the host is really the most heartwarming host you want to meet.

The cottage is just so tranquil.

We have been here twice this year and we love it even more, everything we need for a relaxing, peaceful break and our 2 dogs have the run of the fenced off area which is huge.

Gemma is so friendly and accommodating We are definitely going back next year again.

We loved our mini break at the Herdie Hideaway, we needed a little time out from our busy lives to relax and spend a little time together.

Gemma was lovely and ensured we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Our dog Bart also loved his stay here, he had freedom to roam around the grounds and enjoyed his new surroundings. We would highly recommend coming to stay at Herdie Hideaway if you need a quiet break away to recharge the batteries.

It's quaint and cosy, a gorgeous place to relax. Gemma, the host, is so friendly, very informative and at hand for any enquiries/questions/information. There's everything you need here. This was our first visit and won't be our last. Loved it!

From stepping out of the car on arrival, the setting of the Hideaway instantly eased all of the tension I was holding - it is situated in such a beautiful, private place.

Gemma was absolutely wonderful, from even before we arrived she kept in touch and was on hand if we needed anything. The Hideaway is well presented, clean and clearly well loved, it is just beautiful (and full of sheep!). The weather was kind to us but we kind of feel like we want to come in the winter months as it is such a cosy place and the log burner looks really inviting! Everything about this place has been thought through well, the attention to detail is fantastic. Luna (labrador) has had a wonderful time making friends with the pet sheep and we have all fallen in love with Appleby which is a short drive away. We spent two days wandering along and in (the dog not us) the River Eden which is a beautiful walk, took in some local cricket matches and everywhere we went was dog friendly which is a massive bonus when you have a furry member of the family to consider. If you are looking for a break to destress and relax then the Herdie Hideaway has everything you need. A massive thank you to Gemma for welcoming us and making sure everything was just right. We have had just a perfect weekend away and couldn't have asked for anything more, we will definitely be returning in the future. Angie, Mark and Luna

We have had the most wonderful week at the Herdie Hideway; a private, relaxing, idyllic base for exploring the Lake District with our two dogs.

Appleby is lovely town and has all you need. The Herdie Hideaway is a little gem and was exactly what we wanted for our stay. I was looking for accommodation that was away from the hustle and bustle and with a private garden for our two dogs. They thoroughly enjoyed exploring the grounds around the Hideaway. Gemma is the perfect host; welcoming and friendly, nothing is too much trouble and you can tell she is very proud of her Hideaway holiday home and just wants you to have the best stay possible. We would definitely return here for more exploring and I’ve already recommend it to my friends and family. Thank you so much Gemma, for offering and managing such a wonderful little place!

We can’t recommend this place enough, we have enjoyed the quiet location with a fabulous paddock area for our dogs to roam at leisure, very clean and friendly place,Gemma welcomed us when we arrived and there was a welcome package of Prosecco, milk, eggs and yummy cake, we’re re-booking straight away!

Me and my wife booked a mini break at the herdi hideaway for her 60th birthday,on our arrival Gemma was there to greet us, from when we arrived to the moment we left everything was perfect, will definitely be going again.

Quiet, clean with everything you could possibly need.

The owner Gemma was a lovely host, and left me a gift on my birthday. I'll be back.

A truly magical place, We had lots of rain, but it was the best experience by far that we have had on holiday with Sykes Cottages.

Mine hosts were wonderful and very helpful when we asked for any information. We learnt about tupping sheep and watched as Gemma's husband handled them with ease. (no mean feat).The enclosed garden is a Paddock,its huge and fenced all round.Great for our two dogs both of which are nutters.The only draw back was saying goodbye.Hoping to say Hello again 2024.Sandra and Lew Wolverhampton Highly recommended .

We had a great stay.

Only wish we could’ve stayed longer. The cottage was ideally situated for the Lake District. It was fantastic for our dog to be able to run around off the lead outside. The owner was extremely helpful and friendly.

What a perfect holiday home Herdie Hideaway is.

Spotlessly clean,warm,inviting and comfortable. We along with our 2 dogs Skye and Merlin spent a wonderful week here. The scenery is beautiful and our sheep neighbours are so cute! Gemma the owner is an absolute star. A welcome of eggs,cake,milk and prossecco was a lovely touch. There is heating either electric or a woodburner but Herdie Hideaway is so warm we didn't use either evenwith an overnight frost. If we holiday in this area of The Lake District again Herdie Hideaway is most definitely first choice for our base. Thankyou Herdie Hideaway and thankyou Gemma. Les,Sharon, Skye and Merlin

Herdie Hideaway is a small Building which is at the back of a farmhouse, it is so small there is no room for chairs so you have to sit or lie on the bed if you want to relax.

there is a wood burning stove but we found it too hot for comfort even when the control was set to it's lowest point. I think the cottage would be a good holiday stop for younger people than me and my wife as they would probably be out walking all day and down at the pub at night, but I would not recommend it for older people. I did not meet the owner but did meet her mother who was very nice and helpful.

Gemma was an amazing host, fresh eggs, cake and prosecco when we arrived was a lovely surprise. The hideaway was exactly what we wanted from a getaway for a few days, very peaceful and quiet, with plenty of farm life and lots of beautiful walks along the river. The enclosed space meant we could let our dogs off the lead confident of them not escaping which gave them freedom to explore the big area too. We would 100% stay here again and would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a lovely stay away to relax!

This place was so peaceful, and just what we needed for a few days.

We went on some lovely walks, despite the weather and can recommend a sunday lunch at the Sandford Arms. Our 2 dogs loved running around in all the outdoor space. Gemma adds some great personal touches such as eggs from her chickens and a bottle of prosecco. Great for couples that just want to get away from it all like we did.

This is a small but charming place, located in a wonderful area, it provides exactly what you need, a clean and fresh base from which to explore the beautiful countryside all around.

If you're looking for a lovely little hideaway then this is the place to go.

Its located in a beautiful secluded spot. The hideaway was small but it had anything we needed, the outside space was also secure for our dog so we didn't have to worry. Gemma was very welcoming and we had fresh eggs, milk and prosecco waiting for us on arrival. There are plenty of places to visit and lots of walks. The local pub was 10 minutes walk away and the food was lovely. We will definitely be visiting again - thank you

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Great location, nice walks and pub nearby. Felt remote but also well connected, being close to the A66. Host was very friendly and helpful. We didn’t have a dog, but I can imagine it’s perfect if you do, with the enclosed garden. Thinking of booking up again for the summer. Great little find, highly recommend!

Excellent find, in a beautiful and secluded place.

There is no doubt the accommodation is small (but so are diamonds!) but we had everything we needed. The owner was very welcoming and generous (prosecco and freshly laid eggs. Lovely walking nearby, peaceful and quiet, we sat watching a family of rabbits whilst eating breakfast outside in the sunshine. Cooking facilities are minimal but the local pub food was good. We will definitely be looking to visit again. Thank you.

Herdie Hideaway is an absolute delight!

We had a fantastic 5 day break, everything we could have wished for and more. Our 2 Shepherds loved the large enclosed garden(as did we!). Fantastic location for hiking in the Lakes and exploring the local area too. Great pub 5 minutes walk away which is always an added bonus! We will absolutely be back in the near future. If you’re looking for an idyllic cosy hideaway in a tranquil setting then this is the place to go.

If you hate your partner and want to party, this ain’t the one. We have 2 large dogs and it accommodated us - It is small and therein lies its charm. We opened the fridge to find Prosecco, milk and we were stocked with wood and cake! The fire puts out serious heat so no worries there either. What more could you ask for? But there was more! Our boxer and GSD loved the paddock. They really made themselves at home and enjoyed all the space. I was over the moon when I got to feed the lambs and fell in love with Gemma’s horse - the most handsome boy. Gemma is an amazing host - the best we’ve met so far. Friendly but unobtrusive. We can’t wait to return and were sad to leave.

e tea, coffee, milk, Prosecco etc were really appreciated and a wonderful surprise. The Hideaway is gorgeous and great to have a secure paddock for the dogs. A little bit small for us with three dogs in tow but will definitely try to return for another short break

We had a fabulous stay, the Herdie Hideaway had everything you need for a short break plus some really lovely welcome extras that Gemma had arranged for us.

Eggs from her chickens, milk, indulgent cakes and a bottle of fizz, really nice touches. The sheep themed cottage was quaint and was well equipped. We stayed 5 nights and ventured out daily for different activities in the lakes and surrounding areas. Places we visited were: Ullswater, parking in the main car park in Glenridding we walked around the lake up to the Aira Force waterfall and then hopped on the 20 min ferry ride back to Glenridding Fell foot, at lake windermere where we hired a rowing boat, we have a very large German Shepherd dog and there were no issues taking him with us to enjoy the activity. We walked around the meadow walking route (short walk) and had a lovely cuppa and cake at the cafe before heading back through some of the local villages of Appleby & Kendal on the way. Bowness, at lake windermere, hired an electric boat and headed right into the middle of the lake. Had lunch a chippy lunch at Driftwood, the gentleman server recommended a walk on the opposite side of the lake (much quieter and less touristy). About a 10-15 walk from the main car park is the car ferry which takes 10 mins to cross to the other side. Only £1 each for pedestrians and the dog went free From here we walked to Wray Castle and back Whitlatte Forestry Centre, renowned for red squirrels, sadly we didn't see any, but we do have a large dog so maybe that kept them away. Food at the cafe was lush! On the way home we stopped by Ingleton waterfalls. This is a one way 4.5mile walk around the 6 waterfalls and was well worth the visit and would highly recommend. Gemma, the owner of Herdie Hideaway was the perfect host, really welcoming on arrival but not in anyway obtrusive during our stay and was very relaxed about having our dog around despite the sheep being in lamb In short- Gorgeous location, lovely host, very enjoyable stay.

The little house is charming and equipped with everything you need for a holiday.

Very quiet and relaxing place. Plenty of outdoor space for dogs. The owner lit a fire in the fireplace for our arrival and gave us a very warm welcome. Accommodation absolutely highly recommended! A great starting point for the surrounding mountain trails. In the near walk distance there is a very nice pub with tasty food and nearby is a very pretty little town Appleby-in-Westmorland on the River Eden, worth visiting and doing local shopping. I recommend a visit to the tourist information in the center.

What an amazing place in the right location and Gemma and family were very helpful when needed.

The weather wasnt on our side to sit and take in the surrounding area outside but it didn't take away from the room.Our dog loved the garden to walk around would definitely recommend hope to see you soon and all the extras made it special thanks again Gemma x

Excellent host nothing was to much trouble.

Nice enclosed paddock area for dogs. Accomadation had everything you needed. Would stay again no problem.

Herdie Hideaway was amazing, exactly as shown and just perfect for our stay.

Gemma is brilliant, so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Our dog barks at strangers especially near where he is staying, Gemma was so understanding and patient with him, even providing an outside tap and sponge etc to clean him after our long muddy walk. The house has everything you need, the bed is really comfy and the stove is really good, we had plenty of lovely meals while staying there. The location is perfect for walks, we split our time between local walks and venturing out in the car to Penrith, Barnard Castle and Keswick. Would definitely recommend and I’m sure we’ll be back for another stay.

Our stay was just amazing.

It was nice and cosy and just enough space for me and my partner and our two fur-babies. We had everything we need for our short stay and Gemma was a lovely host. Gave us cake and fizz and had the open fire ready nice and warm for our arrival. The grounds around the property is quiet and peaceful. A big enclosed space for our dogs to have a good run around and play. Would definitely recommend and would even stay again. Only downside was the weather so next time we will be booking during the sunny days as it’s not far of a drive to attractions like the Lakes and hiking areas.

The hideaway was really lovely, it was a bit on the small side for myself husband and 2 fur babies, but when i pack I take everything but the kitchen sink.

The outside space for the dogs is amazing so much area to run around in, just be aware if they are small as ours got under the fences in certain areas. The hideaway is very central for visiting different places, we were looked after by the hosts mum (Judith) and she was fab nothing was too much trouble. On arrival the host (Gemma) had left a bottle of bubbly homemade cake, also because it was my birthday a card and a box of chocolates such a lovely touch, so thoughtful

We really enjoyed our stay and the owner was very welcoming on our arrival.

Due to the time of year the weather was not good but in the hideaway we were very comfortable and had no issues. We would definitely book again for the summer.

Small but nevertheless, Comfort from all aspects, very nice walks around the grounds for our Dogs although we didn't let them off leads as my 2 if they could find a way to get under the gates etc they would, really enjoyed our stay, thank you very much to the owner

A gorgeous retreat in a stunning area.

Very well equipped with extra touches to make our Christmas special. All in all, it was everything that we wished for.

Me, my partner and our puppy Annie had the best time at the herdie hideaway a few weeks ago.

It had everything we needed and was perfect for Annie! Gemma the owner was amazing and so welcoming, she was happy to help with anything! There are lovely walks and pubs in the area, all dog friendly also. We will definitely be returning, I couldn’t recommend going here enough!

We stayed at Herdie Hideaway for my birthday with our dog Bruno.

The place was beautiful and well secured which is what attracted us so we could let Bruno explore without any worries. Gemma (the host) was so welcoming when we arrived and was happy to meet Bruno. She even surprised me with a birthday card and chocolates which was very kind of her. The cottage was stocked with everything we needed during our stay so there was no need for us to bring it all with us. We enjoyed the scenery so much, being able to explore the land around us and even watching the sheep from our window, they’re very cute! We really enjoyed relaxing and how peaceful it was, especially as we stayed here to get away from the fireworks and it was absolute bliss! We would 100% love to come back sometime!

Just what we wanted and more!

The Herdie Hideaway way the perfect place for a short break for us and our 10 month old puppy. The Hideaway was beautifully furnished (the sheep theme is a lovely touch) and had everything you could need, not forgetting the bubbles provided on arrival which was a lovely surprise. The log burner made everything so cosy and the owners were on hand whenever needed for wood and anything you might need. Nothing was too much trouble. Our puppy had the best time with the huge enclosed garden for him to run wild without us having to worry about him. Thank you so much Gemma, we will definitely be back.

My partner and I had the most wonderful stay at Herdie Hideaway!

! The cottage/cabin has everything you need and it's so warm and cosy.... The pictures don't give it justice!! Gemma our host, was so, so lovely and gave us a very warm welcome. She provided several little surprises to, which were homemade cake, fresh eggs, milk and a bottle of bubbly. My partner and I got engaged during our stay and as soon as Gemma heard, she brought us flowers, chocolates and a card - Such a lovely gesture!! We stayed for 3 nights, starting on the 01st of Nov and explored lots of neighbouring places. This included Keswick, Kendal, Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere, as well as lots of nearby walks/hikes. It also has loads of nearby pubs and restaurants, which do take away, if you every want to curl up by the fire in the cabin, for a romantic night in.... Herdie Hideaway is great proximity to everything, whilst still avoiding the crowds and is an ideal place if you have a dog and like to go on walks!! Can't recommend it enough and will definitely be coming back in the future!!

My husband, our little dog, Lady and Myself, booked for 4 nights at the Heardie Hideaway.

From the very beginning, to the very end of our stay, it was perfect! The location in Warcop is absolutely idyllic. Very quiet, and off the beaten track, with lush green fields all around. Gemma, our lovely Host, was there to greet us. Nothing was too much trouble! Milk, fresh eggs, Prosecco and yummy cake, were waiting for us, in the lodge! Very nice touch… Gemma even very kindly, left Me a Birthday card and cake for my special day!! The place itself is beautiful! Very quaint! It’s compact, but was absolutely fine for our needs. It is decorated to a very high standard. Lovely comfy bed and a cosy wood burner, made this feel like a home from home… Fantastic country pub just up the road, The Sandford Arms served delicious food! Lots to see in the locale. Appleby is delightful! Managed to visit Penrith as well. If you are looking for a ‘get away from it all’ stay, I can absolutely recommend this little gem! Well done, Gemma! The Heardie Hideaway is a credit to you, and we hope to return.

Ron and Donna and the adorable Buddy had the most brilliant 3 nights at this marvellous location.

Gemma was a superb host and nothing was a bother to her.The grounds in which the cottage are superb.Buddy loved everything about it.Already looking for dates next year.Date of our stay was 19th of September.

Made very welcome by the owners who also left lots of extras for us to enjoy.

Mattress really comfy, everything spotless. Garden so big and fenced off for the dogs to enjoy. Very private and quiet but owners on hand if needed. The shower is a little slow but not a big problem. Local pub had good beer and food but also liked the Taggy Man pub in Kirkby Stephen, also the Indian take away was excellent. Lots of places to visit in the car. Had a lovely day in Keswick. A big thank you to Gemma and her sister for letting us stay in this beautiful little hideaway, we will see you again.

What a wonderful place in beautiful surrounding countryside Gemma the owner is such a lovely warm person who makes you feel so welcome THE Welcome pack left us is the best we have ever had in any cottage stayed in .

On the downside we would recommend you keep your luggage to a minimum as it isa very compact cottage which adds to it charm .Dogs are very welcome and have a wonderful area to excersise in We had a great week there

Herdie hideaway was fabulous.

We received a lovely welcome from the owner, who also left us a couple of nice surprise’s. The surroundings were peaceful and we had a lovely walk by the river, which are dog loved to the pub for a a very tasty meal. Definitely would recommend

Myself, my partner and our 3 dogs recently stayed over at the Herdie Hideaway and it was an absolutely fantastic stay!

The room had everything you could possibly need, plenty of space and the cleanliness was perfect. The owner was very welcoming, there to help with any queries but all whilst making sure you were given your own space to relax and enjoy your holiday. The setting is lovely, only 0.5 miles away from a dog friendly pub and if the weather is on your side you can enjoy a beautiful sunset from the comfort of the table and chairs outside the lodge. Can't recommend the Herdie Hideaway enough, will definitely visit again in the future, thank you again for a wonderful stay!

We had a lovely time whilst staying here, there is plenty of space and it is private.

We booked it due to reading over reviews about the fenced off garden and it really did not disappoint. Our Shepherd is reactive and being able to have him off the lead without worry was perfect. There was so much space for him to roam and all the fences were perfect for a dog his size. There is also other fields attached where you can walk your dogs on the lead. Gemma was a brilliant host, we used her welcome book to go on a local walk, local Indian and even went for a run. I would definitely recommend.

The property was comfortable and cozy and had everything we needed.

Gemma was really welcoming and helpful. We felt like we had our own private space, but it was reassuring to know that Gemma was nearby if we needed anything. We would love to stay again!

We had a wonderful stay at the spotless and beautifully decorated Herdie Hideaway.

Our dog Winnie absolutely loved the amazing outside space, which was really secure and made us feel totally comfortable letting her off lead. The location is great and we had two lovely days out to Pooley Bridge and Keswick. The host Gemma was so welcoming and the treats she left for us were a lovely surprise! We will be back!

What a outstanding location.

Gemma the perfect host. On arrival the property was at a high standard. Gemma had left some essentials to start out visit , which was a pleasant surprise. She welcomed all including our cockapoo ALFIE. The property was all secure so our dog could just run about, he loved it. We were allowed to use our portable barbecue, which was great having the good weather we had. We also took a stroll down to the local Sanford Arms only a 10min walk. On the second night there,we saw the perfect sunset the sky was red, totally stunning. The Wi-Fi was a good reception no problem at all, so even though there was no TV, easy to watch live TV on our I-pads to close the night. Our wee cockapoo made friends with Gladys the wee lamb, amazing to see. We would highly recommend a stay here and will be definitely be back to relax in the Herdie Hideaway.

Really easy to get to in a central location that was great to use as a base for exploring the wonderful surroundings. Gemma was a fantastic host who made sure we had everything we needed and planned everything really well, we loved it that much we are planning our next booking for our stay in the herdie hideaway

Herdie Hideaway is just the perfect retreat!

We felt privileged to be some of the first guests to stay at Herdie Hideaway and arrived to find it absolutely spotless and so inviting! Gemma is absolutely lovely and could not have been more welcoming! She greeted us upon arrival and showed us around the cottage. We really appreciated this as sometimes it can take a while to find things and decipher instructions. Gemma left fresh milk, tea, coffee and even a bottle of fizz for us to start our wedding celebrations early, and her Mom made us a beautiful cake - so lovely and unexpected! The location is just beautiful, with plenty of scenic walks and things to do near by. Our favourite part of our stay was sitting out on the patio in the evening, watching the sun set and the sheep play in the field next to us - they're so friendly and inquisitive! We booked our stay here to break up the journey up to Scotland; we will definitely return here and possibly for a longer stay as we enjoyed it so much and didn't get to experience everything we'd hoped to in the local area.

A perfect base camp for the lakes, so very peaceful and incredibly chilled, Gemma was the perfect host and couldn't do enough for us,spotless inside and the cottage is fenced off so my dog was free to run around as he pleased, some beautiful walks around the village through fields and along the river, route provided by Gemma, the pub is quite literally 5 mins walk, very dog friendly, excellent food and very welcoming, highly recommended, 10 out of 10, will be going back as soon as the batteries need charging again.

We had a lovely 2 night stay at the Herdie Hideaway.

The hosts were really friendly and welcoming, and couldn’t do enough to help us - they even shared a slice of cake for the Jubilee celebration! They are really dog friendly which was lovely as we had our dog with us. We have already recommended the property to our friends. Thank you for having us :)

Fantastic place to stay, immaculate and well equipped.

Absolutely beautiful surroundings! The hideaway is surrounded by fields which our Labrador absolutely loved & the view of the sunset at night is spectacular. The owners were very attentive, friendly and took time to make sure that everything was ok. The location is remote which is exactly what we wanted, a very peaceful stay. I can already tell that this is going to be a very popular place to stay! Also, if you are lucky enough to meet Gladice the pet lamb she is an absolute sweetheart! Thank you so much Gemma!
