Amazing break, beautiful location and the most idyllic accommodation

What a lovely little cabin in such a gorgeous area.

A really beautifully decorated shack, with such a lovely jacuzzi bath and huge bath in the bedroom. Perfect place to stay for a relax with lots of things to do close by, and a nice walk right outside the front door.

Absolutely beautiful accommodation, set in the most peaceful stretch of countryside.

From the moment we arrived, it felt relaxing and special—exactly what you hope for when planning a weekend away. The property is wonderfully presented, comfortable, and beautifully maintained, with a real sense of warmth that made us instantly feel at home. One of the biggest highlights was how easy it was to start exploring. There are lovely walks straight from the door, perfect for enjoying the surrounding scenery without needing to drive anywhere. Whether we were taking a slow stroll to soak up the views or going for a longer wander, everything was right on the doorstep. Chris and Julie were fantastic hosts. They were quick to respond to messages, attentive without being intrusive, and genuinely helpful throughout our stay. They also made such a thoughtful touch with a lovely welcome basket on arrival, which really added to the feeling of being well looked after. We can’t recommend Hare’s Shack highly enough. It’s an idyllic place to unwind, explore the countryside, and enjoy a truly memorable break—thank you, Chris and Julie, for making our weekend so wonderful.

A lovely place to stay, and get away from it all.

Luxuriously equipt, Hare's Shack is a cosy place to relax for a few days in a wondefully tranquil place. All of nature is right outside the door and easy to explore, or just observe.

We had such a lovely and perfect stay.

We enjoyed it so much that we already talked about when we could come back. I have to add it was the comfiest bed I have ever slept in!

Truly amazing!

We had a lovely stay at the Hare’s Shack.

The property is stunning and the pictures really don’t do it justice. The facilities are amazing and the cottage is very well designed. We loved the fireplace and the outdoor bath, and the kitchen was well kitted out. We did find that a couple of things impacted our stay. The outdoor bath hadn’t been cleaned properly so there was a dirty ring around the top of the tub. I also found the fake plants in the bathroom very dusty and some had hair from previous guests in them. Otherwise the property was spotless so really it just felt like these had been overlooked rather than being indicative of a wider problem. There was some building work being done on a neighbouring property during our stay. Chris apologised for the impact of the building work on our view, which we didn’t mind at all. This kind of work does need to be carried out and the timing can’t be helped. However, having noisy building work and the noise of the workers’ radio on our last two mornings really affected the tranquility of the location and we wish that this had been made clearer to us. I felt that our privacy was also significantly impacted - I didn’t feel as comfortable using the outdoor space while the work was being done, and we felt quite overlooked. Again, I appreciate that the work is needed. But for the price of the stay and the fact that we chose this location for peace, quiet and privacy, we wish we’d been made aware in advance of our arrival. Overall, I would absolutely recommend the property. It’s a gorgeous spot and has everything you need for a special break. We just felt we would have appreciated better communication about the building work in advance, as well as recognition of the impact this had on the way we were able to use the cottage during our stay.

The most idyllic place.

It was even better than we imagined and made our first Lake District holiday a true core memory. We loved everything about it and can’t wait to visit again in the future!

The Hares Shack was perfect in every way, we were met by Chris, the owner and he gave us a personal tour. The location was ideal and beautiful, we loved every minute.

The Hares Shack was everything we thought it would be and more,what a truly magical and beautiful place to stay,set in the most beautiful surroundings and amazing views,with a river flowing through,very tranquil and a perfect place to switch off and relax,and it felt like home from home, Chris and Julie have literally thought of everything to make it a totally comfortable and memorable stay, From the jacuzzi outside in breathtaking views,to the the relaxing log fire in the evenings the bedroom was amazing with a free standing bath ,hares shack was immaculate spacious and the attention to detail of everything in the hare shack was beautiful Chris greeted us on arrival and was very welcoming from is kindness,information and knowledge of the area around were we was staying regarding activities and places to go!

Julie left us a complementary basket with tea coffee hot chocolate,and the most amazing sticky stem ginger cake, truly delicious There was a folder left with all the info and guidance making us feel 100% safe on our stay,we will definitely be coming back to this amazing place Chris and Julie you should be so proud of what you have achieved and accomplished from making this project from a dream to reality,in reading your story of how you made this all possible with hardwork,Dedication commitment and bravery It’s inspiring to all Many thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us This week Dean and Lisa (Liverpool)

Fantastic property with everything there you need, the location is great for walks on your doorstep and a little drive to Kendal and Windermere, the hosts were great and gave us their knowledge of the area so we could make the most out of our stay, if we could buy it to live in we would !

We had a perfect week at the Hare's Shack.

The place was clean, very comfortable, very well equipped and luxurious. It was easy to find and a good location from which to explore the Lake District, and we loved how quiet it was and the amazing view of a mountain right in the back garden. Chris was very welcoming and there was plenty of information provided and recommendations for things to do in the area. We can't recommend the Hare's shack enough and would gladly return.

A fabulous place to stay.

Chris gave us the warmest welcome on our arrival. The cottage was well equipped, clean, extremely cosy and comfortable. So much thought and attention to detail has gone into these cottages, it really was the nicest cottage we have stayed in. Stunning setting, within the hills.

Such a lovely place to stay.

Everything that you could need was provided and the furnishing was done to a very high standard. It was so relaxing and comfortable. The surrounding area was great for walking and exploring straight from the lodge and coming back to the comfy living room with its real log fire was so cosy. We would highly recommend The Hare’s Shack.

Hands down the most beautiful place we have ever stayed.

The views were breathtaking even on a rainy day. Inside hares shack, nothing was forgotten, it was so well equipped and it felt like home. The bed (which is always a concern when away) was extremely comfortable and we slept like babies all week. We honestly cannot find any fault, not even a niggle with this place, and the host Chris is so lovely and helpful, and so full of knowledge! We honestly wouldn’t hesitate to come back again.

Beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The hosts were very lovely and left us a welcome pack which was very kind. Chris, who showed us around was very informative about the local area. The area is stunning, it really feels like you are getting away from it all.

A beautiful quirky place.

Having a bath outside, log fire in the bedroom and living room, wonderful. Everything you would need is there, from logs to a disposable bbq, binoculars etc. Lovely welcome pack and Chris is an amazing host. 3 nights was not enough.

Wonderful holiday home.

Luxurious, comfortable and homely. Everything you need for an amazing stay. The owners were friendly and helpful. The beds were so comfortable and the log fire cosy during the chilly evenings. First class!!!!

Absolutely fabulous stay!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in The Hare’s Shack. It was so clean, beautifully decorated and cosy. The weather outside might have been poor but to be honest we were pleased as it meant we could spend all our time inside with the fire on. The lodge has everything you would need. Chris and Julie have thought of everything. Thanks to Julie for the welcome pack and Chris for showing us around upon arrival and making sure we had enough logs. The estate you have created is something to be so proud of. We have already booked to bring our family back to The Old Water Mill in December 2025!!! As it was already booked up for 2024. If you are contemplating staying here you will not be disappointed. Book quick and discover a real gem.

Very welcoming on arrival Chris made sure we understood everything when showing us around the cabin.

Julie made a complimentary basket a lovely thought. The cabin was amazing so comfortable and relaxing and bonus phones dont work unless on wi fi. The view was amazing. It had everything you need for a weeks stay. It has been done to a very high standard. It was very clean on arrival over rall we would say 10 out of 10. And it's a first for us and we have stayed in lots of places. Oh and the log fire was lovely being able to light it and see it from the living area and also bedroom was fantastic. The Hares Shack was absolutely perfect!

Chris and Julie have thought of absolutely everything and the attention to detail is incredible. There has been no expense spared on this property and it really shows. Chris met us when we arrived and he was so nice and knowledgeable. Julie had made us up a wee basket of local goods and everything to start our holiday. They truly do think of everything. Our time there was absolutely perfect and we were so sad to leave. Definitely recommend this to everyone and we will most definitely be back! Thank you Chris and Julie, it was fab!

Spotlessy clean, extremely well equipped and So obviously created with love and attention to detail. Faultless in every way. Chris welcomed us and showed us everything we needed to know and told us about the local area. Extremely friendly and informative. We climbed the mountain that is literally in the back garden. Highly recommended, the views are outstanding. This is one of, if not, the best places we have ever stayed. We can't wait to return.

This property is absolutely fantastic!

It exudes comfort and a warm welcome. Located in a serene spot, it's truly a breathtaking place to stay. The wonderful views of the hills and the beautiful sound of the running brook creates a deeply relaxing atmosphere. We were delighted by the thoughtful additions like local coffee, milk, cake, and even a BBQ setup. Our holiday was truly made special thanks to your attention to detail.

Absolutely beautiful little shack, great views.

Well equipped and thought out. Great location just 4 miles away from Kendal but private enough to be hidden away. You really wouldn’t know it was there as you drive past the A road above the property. A real gem.

This was such a gorgeous accommodation to stay in if you are visiting the Lake District with clear routes to Kendal, Windermere and also Barrow in Furness!

On arrival to the Hares Shack we were met by Chris one of the property owners and he was so friendly and chatty which made us feel so welcome! He recommended very delicious pubs such as the Masons Arms, The Black Labrador, and also the Hawkshead Brewery (if you do go here go to Kimi’s Gelato). Chris also recommended walking up the mountain that is literally in the garden of the Shack, it is a must climb if you go! I would love to come back and stay again at this amazing accommodation. We felt so relaxed and at peace when we were here and would 100% recommend to anyone looking at this lodge! P.s keep your eyes peeled for wildlife as you may see the local resident Harry the Hare while you are there as we did and he was very cute :).

Just had a week at the Hares shack and would recommend it to anyone.

Chris and Julie the owners are very welcoming and very helpful on where to visit and where to go to eat. The shack itself is lovely and clean and set in an ideal and tranquil place surrounded by nature, but also in an ideal spot to get to all the lakes and other attractions easily. Will definitely be visiting again soon as still a lot of places and walks to still to do. Highly recommend

This idyllic shack set in a valley was perfect.

With nature all around but also the town only around 4 miles away . The shack has everything you require a real luxury but also very homely.

Our stay at The Hare’s Shack was perfect.

Chris welcomed us after a long drive and made sure we understood everything at the shack. Everything was really clean and it was fully equipped for anything you need for a break away. So often there are things you wish you had but that was not the case here. There is a fridge and freezer, dishwasher and also a washing machine as well! For cookware there are plenty of pots and pans and trays and even some baking items as well. The description of the shack is accurate and the outdoor tub is great (it’s not a hot tub but a jacuzzi bath so not nasty chemicals). Chris and Julie were really knowledgeable of the local surroundings and are super friendly and welcoming. We can’t wait to return again!

Everything about the Hare's Shack was perfect!

From the warm welcome to the beautiful decor and the gorgeous scenery, we couldn't have asked for more and enjoyed our stay immensely. It was nice and clean, the bedding soft and luxurious and there were lots of lovely finishing touches that made the place feel very special and left us wanting for nothing. My absolute favourite thing was waking up and seeing the sheep, the deer (including two beautiful fawns) and even glimpsing the shack's namesake, Harry the hare, at the rear of the lodge whilst sat eating breakfast on the decking. I am only sad that we had to leave in somewhat of a hurry (for personal reasons) and I couldn't find a pen to write in the guest book. Sorry Chris and Julie that we had to exit so hastily, but thank you for providing us with a truly wonderful place to stay whilst visiting the Lake District and we hope to return in the future (maybe in Winter next time so we can utilise the log burner!). Property was beautifully set out, great views, lovely linens and thoughtfully fitted out with everything you might need in the kitchen, plus bbq bits for outside.

Friendly and Attentive but not intrusive hosts. We were really blessed with the weather, and saw amazing wildlife from the comfort of the ‘shack’ Would recommend for a get away from it all break

We found the Hare Shack last minute online.

From the second we got there, we were in heaven. The accommodation was absolutely stunning in the most beautiful location. It was in a quiet area near Kendal but only 15 minutes drive from the town centre. We were able to go for lovely walks along the fields and see the wonderful scenery and see all of the sheep and walk along the stream that runs through where the accommodation is located. The owners, Chris and Julie were the sweetest, most caring and kind people and amazing hosts. They were always there to help, chat and let us know about any good places to go and see. They had literally thought of everything in their welcome book, even how to do the fireplace correctly. We found some amazing restaurants and cafes from their book and visited some of them twice. I cannot recommend this place enough. Chris, Julie and their lovely daughter came out to see us off, which was so thoughtful. We have already spoken to them about returning next year with our family. If you can....GO!!
