Park Brook Retreat

Terrible place and terrible owner, I feel scorned considering how pleasant and upfront me and my partner were about the whole experience I'm saddened by the greed of the owner in refusing to refund, I've tried chasing this up for months and ultimately had to give up on a refund.

I remember seeing one other review that said they literally had to use a cancer diagnosis to sway the owner to give a refund after the issues they had. Clearly my girlfriends compromised lungs don't warrant the same sympathy as she suffered breathing issues while staying here on the first night due to the mould in the ceiling of the bedroom. It was also infested with insects so I spent the first 2 hours after arriving just going around and squashing them all to give us some peace of mind. The advertised hot tub was unusable as well as it was swarming with horse flies and the whole stay was just so unpleasant we had to leave during the first night. We did not sleep at all and we cleaned up the place so it was spotless and used no amenities (even LEAVING more toilet paper behind than there was before we arrived). I informed the owner straight away in the morning that we had to leave due to medical issues (my girlfriend couldn't sleep as she had breathing issues and I myself found it difficult to breath, lo and behold I was shortly diagnosed with asthma a month or so after visiting so I'm not surprised), but the owner just denied any accountability and when I called again after getting home to discuss a refund, even just a partial refund, he spoke over me and then when I wouldn't back down he just hung up on me and blocked my number. I was absolutely flabbergasted and have been trying to chase this up for months now. I'm tired and drained trying to fight this but I can at least leave a review and warn others, maybe you won't have an issue with mould but for someone with a compromised lung it wasn't suitable to stay. The worst of it all is just the owners response, the lack of accountability and the refusal to communicate, I have been nothing but civil with him and left the place spotless with no amenities used. The only loss as far as he would be concerned is the loss of profits for the 4 nights booked which I'm sure he could live without if he had half a heart. The building was as advertised except conveniently the mould was left out of the description, the pictures made the space look bigger than it actually was (this is common for almost all hotel pictures at least), and also the issue with the bug infestation. I understand horseflies exist but there was no indication there would be a swarm of them to the point it would block any usefulness of this facility and I didn't see any mention of them in the reviews so that was a terrible surprise to find out the main reason we booked here was unusable.

Pics are a bit out of date but this retreat is amazing it’s beautiful, really back to nature, we got visited daily by a pheasant, squirrel, dear and Herons even spotted a kingfisher, everything you could need to cook, eat etc is included, shower is amazing and love the log burner.

Definitely will return, Andy really friendly and helpful and the hot tub is amazing.

If you want peace and quiet and almost complete isolation - this is the property for you!

My wife and I had a wonderful relaxing week far away from lifes everyday pressures. Everything you need is in Park Brook Retreat and the hot tub is a fabulous bonus - we used it every evening to our great pleasure. Also much to my wife's enjoyment our only visitors almost everyday was a very insistant Pheasant and the occasional squirrel - both of which insisted on being fed by hand! Without doubt the pictures on the website are very outdated, shrubs and trees having grown considerably since the photos were taken. However we feel this added to the very private setting! Our only observations are that a mat inside the front patio door would help with keeping the sitting area floor clean! Also if the grass front and back had been cut it would have given a much more enhanced view of the property - particularly on arrival and when sitting on the outside patio! Excellent week we will be back.

The first issue we had was the bed.

Whilst described as a double on the Sykes web site it fails to mention the fact that it is a small double. My wife and i both suffer with bad backs and could not get a good nights sleep, to the point at which we left early and booked into a Hotel. Second was the area around the Cottage. Shown as cleared and well maintained on the web site its was anything but. The area to the front of the Cottage was overgrown and the area at the back of the Cottage was overgrown to the extent that we couldn't use the picnic table or washing line. The outside of the Cottage seemed to be covered in years of dirt and inside the ceilings in the bedroom and bathroom had paint peeling off. My wife was unable to us ethe hairdryer provided due to a burning smell and overheating and we had issues with power to the lamps in the bedroom and the power to the Cottage. When we contacted the owner he was off site over 2 hours away.

After driving up a track we came to our chalet in the woods, very little room to turn the car around, chalet and surroundings nothing like photos - about 10 years out of date - grass was knee high so couldn’t sit out the back.

Chalet was smaller than I was expecting. Very little room around the bed and I was covered in bites. Lovely and relaxing especially from the hot tub. Loved being visited by pheasant and squirrel.

Had a wonderful week staying here.

Nice and private out of the way, and only one other lodge onsite. Everything you could need in the lodge, large basket of logs supplied. We had an issue with the hot tub, this was resolved very quickly by the owner, who was very friendly. Whilst we were there we walked around Nicky Nook, ventured further to scafell pike & Windermere. Locally we ate in the Barn in Scorton, which was worth a visit. The only thing I can say that could improve was the blind in the bathroom, and the mattress was quite soft. Other than that everything was great!

Very cosey, log fire and hot tub. Surroundings were beautiful and it was very private. A very enjoyable stay.

Our stay at Park brook retreat was absolutely brilliant.

As soon as we arrived we loved the place . Loved the cabin and everything about it., everything you need for your stay is there from kitchen utensils, towels, slow cooker , air fryer, a big basket of logs for log burner which is fantastic and heats the cabin quickly. Also central heating if you prefer using that. We were greeted by a pheasant who ate nuts from your hand, squirrels running around and peaking through the patio window waiting for treats. The place was fantastic and the hot tub was brilliant. If you stay you won't want to leave. We will definitely be returning. Thanks very much Andy. Gray & Lou.

Such a beautiful spot by the river, surrounded by trees and nature.

The pheasants and squirrels on the patio were a delight and it felt a really private hideaway. The host came promptly when I had a concern about the oven and the facilities including the hot tub were clean and more than ample for a 2 night retreat. I would definitely come again.

This is just what we had been looking for as a little getaway for some back to nature chilling.

The pheasant was at the door before we had unpacked and the squirrels visited us regularly. It was great to sit in the jacuzzi watching the meteor showers every night. Andy was so helpful in keeping the jacuzzi clean and making sure we were ok. Will be back.

Our fourth stay at the retreat, we love being surrounded by nature and the wild life.

The hot tub is a bonus but we didn't use it this time because of the weather. The property is remote but a short drive to the village. A place to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day.

Best holiday we had for a few years, what a fantastic place this is Beautiful surroundings Very relaxing holiday Highly recommended when looking for a beautiful break away.

After booking our stay, I found some negative reviews of the property, which worried me a little.

However, we also found many great reviews and as it turned out, the positive reviews were accurate. The property has two cabins, but they are positioned in a way that they don't interfere with each other. The place is peaceful with plenty of wildlife, although some of it may be a bit overwhelming (you know who you are pheasant). I particularly enjoyed the squirrel that would visit us every morning and knock on the door for food. The owners are very friendly, attentive and available if needed. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway with a hot tub to enjoy soaking those aching muscles and the stress of work, this place is a great choice.

Wow what a haven!

Surrounded by pheasant, geese, ducks, deer, squirrels, sheep, woodpecker and a variety of birds. Absolutely brilliant even though it rained every day.

Fabulous place.

Wild life in abundance both birds and animals. Had good clear skies so was able to watch the stars from the hot-tub. Would highly recommend.

I rarely give 5* full marks in every category for any context, but the Park View Retreat was simply perfect!

A great location, private and picturesque, and with so much friendly visiting wildlife! The accommodation was comfortable, warm and lovely, and with everything we needed for a great week. The hosts (Andy & Julia) provided nice welcoming touches, for example logs by the fire and wine in the fridge, and were attentive throughout the week whenever needed. Wondeful!!!

Fabulous location.

Lots of lovely wildlife to watch in a calming environment. The property was very well equipped, we had everything we needed and more besides. Lovely to have a large basket of firewood provided so we could relax by the fire after soaking in the hot tub enjoying the wine provided by Andy. Both Andy and Julie were helpful and accommodating throughout our stay.

Super stay, amazing natural situation!

Beautiful chalet in beautiful grounds.

Chalet had everything you needed, including a ninja air fryer. Hot tub was a lovely way to end our day. Plenty of wildlife, we loved the squirrels visiting us everyday. Would highly recommend this chalet to family and friends.

The Retreat is one fantastic place to go and relax, Total tranquility, You could be anywhere, Plenty of wildlife, The hot tub was brilliant.

Excellent cottage in a peaceful and tranquil setting, we will definitely book again

I was almost tempted to lie about this property, the area etc as it's such a hidden gem.

But I can't. Staying here I felt like a Disney princess. Early morning/dusk cue the deer grazing on the slope opposite. Early afternoon and here come the geese having a brief paddle in the stream and disappearing upwards. At any time of the day pheasants wandering about aimlessly (never the smartest of birds, bless, why people shoot them I have no idea as it would be more sporting if the sport was trying to NOT run over them). Finally, the bold squirrel knocks politely at the window asking if you happen to have any treats about you. It's just amazing. The cabin has almost everything you could need for a great stay (1 minor irritation is no bathroom/bedroom bin just kitchen one but it's not that big of a deal). I have always thought that money is for experiences not things and so I always try to book interesting places to stay and have never gone back to the same place twice. I would for this place and am certainly planning to, if not this year then the next. The surrounding area too is so beautiful and not very touristy which I like. I have to say the best holiday I've had in this country.

The location is absolutely beautiful, in a valley surrounded by trees with the brook running right by the property.

We had a wonderful time, relaxing in the hot tub watching all the wildlife around us; pheasants, deer and rabbits in abundance. The cabin is very spacious and cosy for two people. There is another cabin close by but not overlooking. Arrival and key collection was very simple, a keycode for the main gate ensured no one could accidentally come down the road. Minor feedback - 1. Could use an extra set of towels for taking outside to the hot tub. 2. Could use some plastic glassware for use outside and in the hot tub. Overall, an amazing place to stay, secluded and surrounded by nature, no traffic or roads nearby. Would definitely stay again.

It is peaceful with beautiful surroundings in a gorgeous location. Great facilities in the property and the hot tub at sunset with a glass of your favorite libation is a dream.

What a lovely place this is. The cabin has everything you need and more with the log fireplace and the hot tub. Perfect way to relax after a day out walking. Not forgetting the lovely wildlife that surrounds you. This place is wonderful and I can’t wait to come back next year.

A really relaxing time at this property no street lights no cars but lot’s of wildlife The hot tub was definitely a bonus The facilities were generally clean although the combined cooker/microwave needed a good clean We would definitely book again for the peace and tranquillity

Absolutely love this cottage second time we have been and will be coming back again it’s so tranquil the people who own the cabins are really friendly and helpful can’t do enough for you if you need them other than that they leave you to your holiday.

We enjoyed a fantastic week in this special place.

The peace and quiet of this rural location was a great break away from our everyday city life. The cottage was cosy, had everything you could need and more. We enjoyed viewing the dark skies from the hot tub and meeting the local wildlife including squirrels, hedgehogs, deer and pheasants. Highly recommend a week here to recharge your batteries and make you fall in love with life all over again.

We picked the hottest week of the year so far and felt very lucky . We spent a lot of time in the hot tub while looking across the fields and trees and enjoying the sunset and walking into the village (no pub sadly) but a couple of really lovely places to eat and drink which close at 4 and 5pm. We ate fabulous meals in The Barn and having a glass of wine in the hot tub is a tough one to top. Yes there is occasionally some traffic noise from the M6 but you can forgive that as everything else makes up for it. Andy left us a bottle of wine and a jug of milk in the fridge which was lovely. A great place to relax and unwind. Highly recommend.

Found the bed a bit too small & would of liked a full oven & not a microwave combi.

Still had a lovely week in the cottage so relaxing with the hot tub. Lovely places to walk around & lots of wildlife around us. Thank you to Andy for making us feel welcome.

fantastic time in wonderfully situated property.

Superb outlook, at 1 with surroundings. We found bed and furniture comfortable with hot tub and wood burner outstanding. Only 'room for improvement' would be a more obvious feeling (given Covid times) of a property clean (burner still had ashes and bathroom & kitchen could have been cleaner). Also more combi oven friendly cooking pans would be helpful. Overall very happy & would return

Idyllic place to stay, wonderful host, perfect location for days out.

Such a lovely cabin I would highly reccomend it.

Only one thing I would make a comment on and that is there is no pub within easy walking distance. The nearest place was a cafe which was very nice but closed by the evening. Apart from that everything was lovely.

Beautiful little lodge.

Fabulous setting next to babbling Brook and local wildlife was wonderful. Had a visit from the pheasant every day for a fre treats. The only fault I would say about the lodge is the lack of kitchen utensils. Not enough cooking dishes or serving spoons. Other than that it was lovely. The hot tub is great after a day out walking

Mattresses a little uncomfortable and could do with a mop to clean the floors. Hot tub cleaned regularly.

It would have been helpful to have instructions.

Very disappointed that we had a fly infestation. It was good that there was an electric fly killer otherwise it would have been difficult to stay.

The retreat is as its named, it is so peaceful.

The wildlife watching is amazing. The hot tub is lovely at the end of the day especially when the bats come out. Owners are friendly and helpful. Would love to go back. Plenty of lovely places close by if you don't want to cook. Listening to the Brook babbling away is so relaxing.

Beautiful location.

Very secluded and private. Since we first booked another dwelling had been built on the site but this was no problem as it was a fair distance away. and could barely be seen. Owner very friendly and helpful. A thoroughly charming little dwelling with wildlife in abundance. Great walking from the doorstep. Once we had parked we never used the car until it was time to go home. Just what we needed. Three eating places in Scorton two miles away and another about a mile walk down the lane from the cottage. The inclusion of a hot tub was a further bonus In all a wonderful much needed break.

It was a fantastic place.

And brill hosts. Just a couple of things to add. Bed and sofa not very comfy. New micro wave great but no glass dishes to use. More kitchen ware needed.

Park Brook Retreat was the perfect getaway for our honeymoon.

Tucked away within the seclusion of the dell, the lodge feels like you are miles away from civilisation. Beautiful surroundings and although the another lodge is on-site, the trees provide privacy and it feels like you’re on your own. The hot tub is superb and adds another element of relaxation. We were lucky enough to be visited by a range of wildlife whilst relaxing and enjoying the views from the hot tub; deer, hares, baby rabbits to name a few. There are plenty of local footpaths and walks to explore in the surrounding area. Easy access to the local village of Scorton. Andrew was brilliant in terms of communication about key collection etc and maintaining the hot tub. We had an excellent stay and would thoroughly recommend.

Fantastic, secluded spot (the 2nd log cabin is positioned so that they really can’t see the front of the cabin’s deck area).

The hot tub was lovely and great to relax in just listening to nature and watching some incredible sunsets. The owner was friendly but we only saw him when he was treating the hot tub. The only thing that did get the better of us was .... the combi oven. The instructions didn’t help. Neither did YouTube. The newer cabin has a full cooker/hob. We would like to go back.

Lovely lodge in an idyllic setting. Well equipped and comfortable. The hot tub was brilliant and the entertainment supplied by the squirrels and other wild life amazing.

Overall it was wonderful to stay here.

The positives: The owner, Andy, was friendly and helpful, and sitting listening to the stream every day was as relaxing as it could get. The cabin itself is cosy and really well built. The shower was excellent, the sofa comfy and the wood-burner and the hot-tub lived up to their selling points. The not-so-positives: the bed for me was just ok, I woke achy a couple of times, but I appreciate everyone's different when it comes to mattresses etc. The kitchen was equipped ok but basic, it would have been nice to have more options for drinks than either a small (and I mean small) cup or small wine glass. I was disappointed to not find a teapot, and I didn't see a cafetiere either. The combi oven is complicated to use, I only managed to conquer the microwave. But I appreciate why it was chosen as a space-saver. The one thing that wasn't expected at all is that this property is NOT as private as it appears to be. There is another rental property in view. After talking to Andy, he explained that it's a new unit so I'd expect the listing for this to change and state this. You can see, and be seen, by that unit when you're on the gorgeous patio and in the hot tub. They were far away enough to not be heard, and the trees do shield a bit, but not entirely. I'd return in a heartbeat as nothing was wrong enough to be grouchy, but at least I'd know what to expect (and I'd definitely take my own mug and glass).

A fantastic hideaway, a beautiful setting away from everything, daily visits from wildlife (expect to feed the pheasants or they will shout at you at the door!

) the retreat was warm, extremely comfortable and beautiful inside and the owners incredibly friendly if you saw them/needed them. Didn’t want to leave at the end of the stay.

Having booked Park Brook Retreat the directions to it were very accurate and the key access instructions very clear.

The location is spot on and the standard of décor very high . We loved our week here and even though the weather was wet part of the time there was so much to do in the area . The daily visit of a more than friendly pheasant was very amusing . Great location , great week . Many thanks to Andy who sorted the hot tub after I pushed the wrong button.

We couldn't help but feel ourselves unwind, has we stepped across our own private footbridge spanning the babbling brook which meandered past the picture postcard chalet, set in its own secluded valley.

We let nature wrap itself around us, as we relaxed in the soothing water of the hot tub, be it in the early morning for the dawn chorus of pheasants, or the late evening for star gazing. However you decide to spend the time in this beautiful chalet, you will not fail to be won over by its charm. We had an amazing week. Would highly recommend. Thank You.

A wonderful break in a very secluded and peaceful little dell.

Nice and secluded. Nice area. Met the owner once and he was super friendly.

The accommodation was better than expected, just a perfect private get away from it all holiday.

We stayed 5 nights for our honeymoon to relax after our wedding. It was clean, well equipped, comfortable with cosy decor. The hot tub was the icing on the cake - so lovely to lay back, day or evening and chill. Andy the owner only called in pre arranged for maintenance of hot tub twice and is very helpful and welcoming. There is a local garden centre with excellent food, alcohol and shop, local spar shop but anything else is really in Garstang so a car is needed. Lovely walks and close to morecambe for day trips. Blackpool is about 40mins and worth a trip for something more lively. Would definitely love to return and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

park brook retreat was absolutely magical, the holiday truly exceeded our expectations

We had the most wonderful week at Park Brook Retreat.

We chose to spend our 30th Wedding Anniversary there and to be honest it was heaven. So peaceful, really a true retreat. The hot tub was lovely and really helped to relax us, in these days of fast pace living you really need to take time out. I think the only thing i would change would be the Cooker!!! Maybe a seperate Microwave and Cooker would be better as it took a while to work out how to use it .....but that is a minor point!! The wildlife was wonderful and we saw something different every day, the resident little Owl that used to perch in the tree outside was just a fabulous thing to be able to see so close. Excellent location, totally private.

A daily visit from the resident pheasant (who would feed out of your hand), squirrel , hare and deer made the experience even more special.The jacuzzi was an added bonus.A freezer compartment in the fridge would have been useful. All in all, a wonderful week's break. We would return here without hesitation.

Simply amazing!

So beautiful and peaceful. Challe is perfect has everything you can need and the hot tub just top it off. There's plenty to do around the area stunning scenery. Will certainly be considering going back.

The retreat is the perfect place to relax and unwind.

It's location is remote, secluded, peaceful and yet picturesque. There is plentiful wildlife around, including pheasants, deer, squirrels, birds, ducks and geese. The town of Scorton is only a 15 minute walk away and has a couple of eateries and a local shop. All of them serve Wallings Ice Cream, which is delicious. There's nothing better than sitting and relaxing, or even waking to the sound of the brook babbling away right outside. We were sad to leave but have great memories and a desire to return as soon as we can.

We loved the little touches that the owner made, and it truly was a little slice of heaven.

Really enjoyed our stay, the property was perfectly situated and was exactly what we needed, very quiet and relaxing with only the wildlife as our neighbours .

The retreat was very clean and tidy.

We slept very well in the bed , the shower worked well , nice hot water and easy to use. Kitchen had everything you needed to make a meal ( there’s even a slow cooker ) and considering the relative remoteness of the retreat the wi fi was pretty good as was the tv and our phone signal was ok too. The hot tub is a bonus, looking at the wild animals and generally just soaking up nature. Location was good too , Garstang was nice for pubs and food shopping. We visited Morecambe, Preston and Blackpool and I would recommend Chorley market on a Tuesday. We met Andy the owner 2 or 3 times in the week and had a nice chat , he’s very helpful and there if you need him. So in conclusion this is a little gem of a place to stay and I think will get harder to book as it’s popularity grows so don’t hesitate to book.

The lodge is totally private and has absolutely everything that you could.

possibly need ,and is ideally situated to visit lots of lovely places, then relax in the amazing hit tub,the owner is very friendly and helpful if you need any help or advice. Found a lovely cafe, the Apple Store, only 10 minutes walk away, with lots of lovely food and cakes, very reasonably priced. Overall an amazing place to stay

A wonderful holiday in a secluded nook with lots of wildlife in a lovely setting.

The lodge was ideal for our requirements (with the exception of the Larder fridge with no freezer box; but we got around that; great ice maker machine tho'). Hot Tub fantastic, loved watchnig the Deer, pheasant and partridge wandering past the lodge (yes,really), and birds of prey flying over, also feeding the Squirrels daily! we will go again for sure!

A truly relaxing week in a wonderful little location. Owners made us very welcome and left us to our own devices. There if needed. At one with nature watching wild animals roam by whilst relaxing in the hot tub. Ideally located to visit many places within a comfortable driving distance. Probably the most relaxing holiday we've ever had. Highly recommended. Will visit again.

When I drove down the private lane it took our breath away. So peaceful and secluded. Could not have wished for a better place to stay .well done Sykes you have done it again .PS the owners left us alone only came to check the tub was ok fabulous people.

Owners couldn't have been more accommodating. The best short break I have had in years. The previous reviews, along with the description from Sykes, was totally perfect and accurate. Will be highly recommending this property and experience to my Friends and family.

Absolutely stunning couldn’t have asked for more

The cottage was perfect.

It was nestled in nature and surrounded by wildlife off the beaten track. The owners were the perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble. We loved escaping the hustle bustle of everyday life and sitting out at night and waching the stars from the hot tub. This place is truly perfect and we cant wait to return.

Wow what an amazing place.

This place exceeded our expectations in how beautiful it was. It was so peaceful but easily accessible to many places to visit. It was a comfortable place that had everything that you needed. It was lovely sitting in the hot tub looking out at deer, hares and other wildlife. Will definitely go back again.

This cottage was the perfect getaway got our ‘mini moon’.

It was clean and modern and provided everything we needed. The location was good as it was only a 40 minute drive to the Lake District.

The cottage was exactly as described, location and facilities could not be faulted, thoroughly enjoyed every minute, the hot tub and log burner were fantastic.
