Black Dog Lodge

On first impressions lovely Lodge, great location within the park(this is our 3rd time at this Lodge but has since been taken over from our last visit), everything you need within the Lodge itself but cleanliness was a big issue.

Lots of dog hair/debris in corners of all rooms, especially round the radiator pipes, window sills not been cleaned, lots of debris/dead flies behind the sofa, dining room chairs covered in black dog hairs and all stained and dirty, few hairs in fridge which is a big no-no!, black dog hairs on all cushions on the sofas( the lighter cushions also very stained), few dog hairs also found in the double bedding, round the shower screen tray on the outside very dirty with hairs within,one of the single mattresses could do with replacing, went to sit outside one of the days when the sun was shining but found the cream cushions for the chairs covered in black dog hairs, luckily enough the grey cushions for the outside sofa seemed to be not too bad. I feel for the money paid to stay the cleanliness was a big issue for me. Overall the location of the park is central to Ambleside/Windermere with everything on your doorstep.

Looked lovely when we 1st walked in a few cobwebs in places not enough knifes and forks no privacy when using the hot tub we also had to leave early as all the mattresses were not fit for purpose both of us could not get a good night sleep even when we tried the single beds

The Lodge had everything that you needed and is situated very close to the marina.We were greeted with a lovely welcome hamper for ourselves and our fur baby, which were thoughly enjoyed.The only thing I would change is to make the hot tub area a bit more private.

Another amazing stay at Black Dog!

A wonderful way to spend a relaxing Christmas break. Perfectly located for easy access to windermere and ambleside and some walking trails right on the doorstep. Hot Tub upgraded since our last visit and was the perfect remedy after a long fell walk. Kitchen has everything you need, even for that Christmas Dinner.

We had an absolutely amazing holiday and the accommodation was beautiful, lovely and clean with fabulous homely touches, we would highly recommend to family and friends.

The location was perfect for many stunning walks but also on the park itself being so close to the lake and the most amazing hot tub views after a long day of exploring. The lodge itself is beautiful, well equipped and our own little black dog loved his stay there also. The finishing touches and little details were really appreciated - it really was a perfect week.

Our first time at the lakes and our cabin was perfect for us four really comfy beds piping hot showers well stocked kitchen area living area was spacious and comfy.

Outside was dog proof with lovely outdoor furniture the hot tub man came more than once to check it. I would definitely stay in this place again oh and a lovely welcome gift on arrival...one of the best we have stayed in

Finn the black labrador enjoyed his stay in the Black Dog Lodge especially the graveyard bones and his Mum and Dad enjoyed the bubbly and crisps.

Will definitely come and stay again soon.

Could not fault this lodge one little bit.

The lodge was immaculate inside and out. Location was perfect and it was less than a minute walk to Lake Windermere. The decking outside was so clean and looked brand. Plenty of seating outside that was so comfortable. The hot tub was so nice and was monitored a few times a week. The beds were so comfortable and I slept really well every night. The Lodge had everything you needed. As the Lodge allows dogs in it , you wouldn’t know as it was immaculate and smelt really fresh . I can’t fault in anyway. If you have dogs or don’t have dogs , you will not be disappointed by booking and staying here. 10/10 for everything. Can’t wait to book and stay next year

Beautiful cabin and very well equipped.

All the beds were very comfy and nicely styled. The cabin is very clean for being dog friendly. On the day of arrival the place was warm and welcoming and a lovely welcome gift which was appreciated by dogs too. The cabin is situated a short walk to main reception and other facilities on the site. Windermere is only two miles away. Would recommend and will be back again.

This is a home away from home, the most tasteful decorated lodge we have stayed in, with excellent facilities and close to the marina. The location was perfect for exploring all local areas Ambleside, Windermere, Bowness-on-Windermere. The lodge was so clean for a dog friendly lodge and we loved our little doggy welcome gift (so did Athena

Great cabin with all you need for a good break, very comfortable with a thoughtful welcome pack to greet us on arrival, great location and would happily stay again, if any gripe, would have liked the dishwasher to work but we did eat out every day so other than basics did't phase us and certainly didn't ruin the break in anyway as the lodge has so much going for it, book it up, you wont be disappointed.

The lodge has everything you need and the welcome pack was a lovely surprise. We would definitely stay again. The lock on the side door could do with some maintenance, very hard to lock, other than that the lodge is perfect.

Really enjoyed our stay.

The lodge was lovely and spotlessly clean. We don't normally stay in dog friendly accomodation as I have a dog allergy ( our friend was bringing his hypoallergenic dog.) and I was a little concerned but I had no problems. The location and the site itself was ideal. We would of liked to have done a bbq but couldn't find anywhere that sold disposable ones due to the fact they are banned in the National park so maybe worth mentioning on info to bring one with you. Would definitely recommend to our friends and family.

Absolutely amazing, well kitted out lodge.

We all had such a great time there last week. It really was ike a home from home with everything supplied, and the welcome food and drink was really appreciated. Although not an issue, it would have been better had the jets worked on the hotub but overall a massive 10 out of 10.

We had a fantastic week stay in black dog lodge for our honeymoon.

The lodge was spotless and has everything you need. The beds and new sofas were super comfortable. It was like a home from home. We were left a lovely gift for us and the dog too. My only recommendations would be to upgrade the hot tub as the jets were very weak, when I reported this to the hot tub man that visited daily he advised it’s because it’s an old tub so won’t be powerful anymore. Also it would be nice to have a guest book/information pack, I like to read these for recommendations of places to visit. It would also be nice if you could pay for early check in, we got married in a near by hotel prior to our stay and we asked if we could pay for early check in and this wasn’t an option. We would love to come back again, the lodge is in a nice location very close to the lake! We were very sad to be leaving yesterday.

Lovely lodge in a great location.

The dog blanket was a lovely touch alongside the treats. Having an air fryer was a nice touch and we used this every day. Really nice furniture outside on the decking and the hot tub was lovely. Would be happy to book this lodge again.

The lodge was really lovely,very clean and comfortable,the only thing I would suggest to make it perfect is a privacy screen around the corner of the hot tub as you are in full view of all the people and traffic passing by.

also maybe bigger towels would be useful. Everything else was great ,just how it should be .

Beautiful place very clean has everything you need the only downside is no tv in the master bedroom, we do like to have tv on in bed to fall asleep to (drowns partners snoring out) ha. This however was the only downside to the property. Thank you for a lovely stay I never want to come home from the Lake District.

The lodge had everything you need for break away, and really is a home from home. Nice little touches such as welcome gifts for adults, kids and dogs. Hot tub contractors came daily to ensure water was clean and safe. Well be back!

Absolutely fantastic again, previously visited in july.

Everything was just perfect ,everything in the kitchen you need and more……. The bed was so comfortable, lovely clean bedding. Plenty wardrobe space, shower in en-suite just fabulous. The hot tub a well deserved treat. Amazing welcome pack for us and our Bedlington Kaya, thank you so much. One disappointment, you don’t have availability till 2025!!!!, if you have any cancellations for Anne’s 60th in April, please keep us notified. Thank you so much, will definitely be back. We had a great holiday, only a couple of things which could be better… Wi-Fi.

Parkdean Wi-Fi is awful. Would be so much better if lodge had own connection. And the kitchen tap has been put on upside down.

Great property outstanding layout very comfortable with plenty of space

We really enjoyed our stay in this fantastic property we have stayed here before and could not fault anything everything was spot on.

with the weather being so hot the only negative thing was there was no fan and the lodge got so hot with the sun being on it all day .The park dosnt hire them so we bought one as one of our party has breathing difficulties. Another point we had someone come to change the gas regulator they were doing all of the lodges on the park and the park didn't inform us we were a bit unsure of this and a little concerned as if we were not in they would of just entered the property unknow to us.this isn't a reflection on the property or our stay it was just lack of communication it would of been nice to be informed as the lodge was our responsibility during our stay. Overall we had a fantastic time and we were sad to leave the lodge is a credit to the owners and we will definitely be back making memories to remember thank you .

I appreciate this was pet friendly, but the place was covered in black dog hairs,especially on the very squeeky sofas and cushions ,they where even in the toilet, the decking was thick with cobwebs which is unavoidable this time of year but you would think it would be clean on arrival , the key lock only opened on arrival and we couldnt return the key to leave ,as it just wouldnt open.

The hot tub lad came every day to check it which was good, on returning home i have had an email saying theres an faint orange mark on the white bedding and they are taking £34 out of my bank account without my permission to replace the bed set , i suggested we didnt mark any bedding , but in all fairness maybe buy a bottle of Ace to remove the so called mark , i am really upset by this as i know for a fact i stripped all bed before leaving and there were no stains /marks etc just dog hairs ,the good points it was in a lovely location , after paying £850 for 4 nights i am really shocked they are trying to get more money out of me for a full bed set for a stain on a quilt cover we didnt put there

Went to black dog lodge with our 2 teenage kids for a long weekend the only trouble was it wasn't long enough.

The welcome pack was a lovely touch. The hot tub was ready to use when we arrived. It was spacious and relaxing, just perfect after a long walk on the fells. The bedrooms were spacious with plenty wardrobe and draw space. The kitchen had everything you needed. Angus, our dog loved the spacious lounge and decking area. He doesn't normally settle out of his own environment but he was so chilled and he loved his little treats thank you. The site clubhouse and restaurant was good. They cater well for families with young children. We'll definitely be back.

To those with or without pets. Lodge was like home and welcome tray of treats were a lovely added touch. Duggee (our 7mth blk lab) says thankyou for his treats!!! Welcome folders gave great information we used this to help us get the most from our walks and sightseeing.We can't wait to come back!!

Recommend fitting Venetian Blinds in the main bedroom all bath towels need upgrading to bath sheets.

All of the utensils in one big drawer is dangerous Knives mixed with all other cooking utensils

Perfect property for our needs as a family of 4.

Very clean and comfortable. Perfect spot within the site, close to the lake and all of the amenities. Great location to explore the beauty of the Lakes and to relax. Hopefully we will be back again soon.

Love this lodge we've stayed here for the last 7 or 8 years and will be again hopefully next year.

Only gripe was the wifi was down on site without warning so it was a bit of a job planning our days out.

We loved our stay at the lodge, beautiful weather, great hot tub, fab location, couldn’t have been better, we will book again.

This is a lovely lodge which is well-maintained, clean and spacious.

It’s suitably equipped for a holiday lodge (though no bath sheets which would be useful). We had a lovely holiday overall but the Parkdean clubhouse (which has a restaurant/bar, swimming pool, small shop) really let things down. We have been to White Cross Bay 3 times before but we felt standards had dropped this year. The service in the restaurant was appalling with longs delays, missing items and a limited menu. Meals have to be ordered via an App and downloading and using it was really difficult given that the Wi-Fi is useless and it’s difficult using even 3G/4G on site. On one occasion, we sat in the restaurant for 15 minutes trying to get the app to work and eventually gave up, and went to the bar to try and order. When we got there, we were told that all meals were sold out and there is absolutely no food available. This was at 7pm! On another occasion, the bar closed at 10pm because staff wanted an early finish despite there being customers still present. I’d have no hesitation in recommending this lodge, but I don’t think I’d recommend White Cross Bay again. By the way, the Lee really is no Wi-Fi availability so bear this in mind if you need to do any work.

Loved our stay In The Black Dog Lodge. Brilliant location on the park, right along from the Marina at the lake, brilliant for us kayaking. Some nice touches with the welcome pack. Loved the jacuzzi and the large decking area. Buddy our Labrador loved it and his morning swim in the lake. Definitely a step up from Parkdean accommodation. Really didn't want to leave great relaxing holiday. Thanks

We have stayed at this lodge about 3 years ago - we were not disappointed - the lodge was so clean and fresh when we walked in.

The beds are so comfy and we loved the hot tub - only small issue which isn’t the owners fault is that over the years we have stayed at White Cross we have always been able to get WiFi - this time it wouldn’t even connect us even for a few minutes it was really bad - also the club house had closed the kitchen all the time we were there, not sure why- there was no real reason given so we couldn’t get any food from there. However we loved the lodge and the gesture of the hamper was amazing so thoughtful - would def stay here again- thank you for our lovely stay.

The lodge and park were stunning and faultless The four night stay was ruined by building work either side of our lodge from 8.

30-5pm everyday due to a veranda built hand built from scratch using nail guns, saws and drilling one side then a new lodge being located and put together the other side. The builders were loud, swearing and had the radio on which made us uncomfortable resulting in not being able to use our veranda or hot tub and take advantage of the weather In short holiday was ruined and we will not be using Sykes again after they refused to cooperate in a resolution. This was our second time using Sykes and we were looking to book later in the year but not now. Thanks Simon Reed

Lodge very comfortable and cosy with everything you need for your stay.

The basket of goodies is a nice touch. We have stayed here before so knew it would be of a very good standard. The only negative about the lodge is the dreadful WiFi reception. Hit and miss and only one device can be used at a time. Apart from that a lovely stay.

Me, my fiance and dog stayed for 4 nights, the lodge was lovely and very clean.

There was a thoughtful little hamper on arrival and the hot tub was a nice luxury. The site was well situated and allowed us to go on plenty of walks at ease, would definitely stay again!

Couldn't really fault the accommodation however the only thing that could be improved is the privacy with the hot tub where you are in full sight of the main road that leads to the marina which is a busy road, I don't know if screens would be allowed but if they are then this would be a good fix.

Cleaning wasn't the greatest, with black mould in the main bedroom and dog biscuits left on the floor.

The TV didn't work from our arrival. After asking the staff at the main reception on 2 seperate occasions I was finally told sykes has their own engineers to look at it so the engineer attended quite quickly he was very pleasent and went to the office himself as he could not diagnose the issue. He was informed that they knew about the issue and would have someone out to fix the issue. No one came and i was left without a TV or WiFi for the remainder of my stay.

Beautiful lodge which was well cleaned, all facilities were provided and received a lovely welcome package upon arrival, one of the nicest lodges I’ve stayed in, would 100% recommend to a friend and would return, we had such a lovely stay thank you!

The lodge is lovely, very clean and has everything we needed. We really enjoyed the hot tub of an evening and the little touch of snacks, dog treats and bottle of Prosecco for our arrival was very much appreciated!

Absolutely beautiful place.

Clean and very well looked after. Exactly as the pictures appear. Couldn't fault it one bit, our two young daughters loved it! Interior was lovely, lots of space, beds we extremely comfy (probably better than home) and an all round perfect getaway. We didn't go in the club much as the entertainment wasn't on and we got asked to leave before 10pm but we enjoyed it in the accommodation so wasn't to bothered. All in all, we would highly recommend and book again! Our friends and family are already wanting to book! :)

All great - we stay in this lodge twice per year.

We had an issues with the water boiler and the maintenence guy arrived within 2 hours to fix.. See you next time!!

Cleanliness is needing attention.

We have been to this lodge previously and was more of a 5star then, now looking about 3star. The windows/windowsills/blinds and doors didn't look as if been touched for weeks(very dirty),the bedding was clean but very washed out/grubby looking and on departure when stripping the beds the actual duvets were all stained and grubby. Also there was half used soap dispensers and shower gels in bathroom/kitchen (which with covid should be thrown away and new ones put in place for the next customers), same applies to the toilet rolls, obviously what was left from previous occupants was just left and none spare!! Just feel with what we paid wasn't up to its usual high class standards as before.

We have just returned from the most perfect holiday.

Thirlmere Lodge is a fantastic place and we felt so lucky to be staying here. A beautifully presented lodge, with all amenities close by. The owners had thought of everything and it was like a home from home. We are really hoping to return next summer! Thank you so much

I've stayed in this lodge twice now, didn't want to leave.

No complaints whatsoever.

In a Covid world the cleaning was extremely poor.

There were old sweets under a chair, when we walked in all doors were open except the second bedroom. Never thought anything of this until I went to put the cases in opened the door and was met with a smell of vomit. I’d taken my own dettol spray anyway with Covid so I sprayed round the room hoping to be able to use it but the stench was too much it made me feel ill and my young child was not sleeping in there. Very disappointed considering how much we paid. We usually always book for next year before we leave but not this time. We won’t be back and certainly not to this lodge.

Hot tub not working sink blocked hover full dust.

cooker hood dirty when turned on dripping dirty oil toilet brush in big bathroom had poo and dirty handle we reported all this lm disabled and haven't been out my family was with me and was upset by me being upset.l was told we would be refunded for hot tub haven't yet please look into for me
