Firstly to say that we have, over many years, stayed in many properties managed by Lake District Lodge Holidays and overall have been mostly satisfied with the standards we have encountered.”
However, since the takeover by Sykes Cottages this is no longer the case and we have found that whilst prices have risen rapidly over recent years the standards of service,cleaning, and the attention to detail in the properties has seriously deteriorated.

Firstly the service. We were asked on the booking confirmation to ring within 48 hours of visiting the property to obtain the code for the security barrier at the site. As we were due to arrive on Monday I rang on Sunday to be told by a recorded message that the office was closed. I rang again around 10am on Monday and it was still closed! I then sent an email requesting the information which then took until mid morning Tuesday for them to finally tell me that I did not need a code as the barriers were not in use.
The standard of cleaning at Waterbird can only be described as poor. The fridge was not properly cleaned, the freezer was worse and could not have been defrosted in weeks. The plastic dish drainer on the sink was filthy And as for the oven, Grill, and Hob, they were absolutely disgusting both inside and out. There was no way we would have used these even to cook ready meals!
The attention to detail in the property was sadly lacking, with many of the problems which have been reported in previous reviews over months and in some cases years still not having been addressed. The chair is still stuck in the reclined position,the bottle rack in the fridge door is still missing, the sofa is very worn and uncomfortable and the radiator in the En-suite is still rusty. The toaster will not toast even when on full and the carpet in the lounge to kitchen area is badly stained,
Self catering holidays in the uk are no longer a cheap option and owners need to make sure the product they provide is worthy of the charges they are asking. All of the above defects could be rectified for just a small portion of the profits. They also need to make sure that their agents are providing more than just a basic service level which was certainly not the case here.
I’m sorry that you didn’t have a good holiday. Please refer to Sykes regarding the issues that you have reported.
Also, I’m at lost to hear that you did not have a good holiday based on the free reviews from last month where everybody said what a fantastic location and what a great holiday they had. I wonder what your Holiday was so poor is it because of the weather?
