The Snug

The snug was beautiful!

Considering it was February and very cold the snug was lovely and warm! The hot tub was ready for us when we arrived which was a great touch. Only thing I would add is there was only 4 plug sockets... 2 didn't work and one was needed for the heater so as a couple charging things was a bit of a pain. The stairs into the snug were a little old and could maybe be replaced. Overal the place was amazing and our host was so friendly, I would definitely stay here again. Thanks so much for our 3 days away from home!

Lovely property with an amazing location near the stream.

Everything you need in the accommodation including added extras like hot tub towels, shampoo etc in the bathroom, washing up liquid, tea towel etc. Fantastic takeaway from local pizza takeaway near by and delivered with no issues. Resident chicken to keep you company too. She’s very friendly. Lights on the decking and towards the stream are amazing at night. The fire pit is a lovely addition too. Only issue for us is the hot tub was set to 40 degrees which was extremely hot. The jets at one side do not work. It also constantly had flies in it. Not the doing of the owners, more the trees but maybe a cover over the tub would be beneficial. All in all an amazing property in an amazing area. We headed over the boarder to Edinburgh and that was a great day out.

Wonderful place!

We stayed 3 nights in the Snug, situated by the river it was brilliant. The Snug is not designed for 4* stay but it met our needs brilliantly. (we were out everyday so wasnt much more we needed) The Hot tub was very clean and relaxing we used it every night. The last night we used the fire pit as well, free logs and kindling were provided (thank you) we brought firelighters and matches. The best bit though was tuning on the red light on the decking and then watching the bats flying around the river. Then out of the blue a rustling below and a screech.. Otters i think!! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Lovely little hideaway with real comfort and all you need for a relaxing stay, hot tub added bonus and lovely private seating area with the sound of the river below, picturesque.

Had a great stay.

Lovely quirky place. A bit isolated and got to drive even to the local pub/ village. No where local to grab breakki from etc. Hot tub was lush, but soon filled with bugs & critters as its very open. When we arrived the first night, there was duck feather pillows. The place was damp/felt damp. (Heating had been put on so it was like a furnace also). We got into bed and the pillows absolutely stank. As it was late and didnt want to disturbthe onsite owners, we made do. We had to cover them with a towel to sleep on them as the smell of damp from the pillow smelt like poo. We notified the owner first thing next morning & they went out to buy new pillows - but as they were brand new, they were too fluffy/soft and gave me a right neck creek/bad back the day after. That was the only negative which was resolved. I'd recommend & although we probably wouldn't stay again (just because we have done it) - it was a lovely place to stay! The owners were friendly and just leave you to it- quietly.

Such a nice property, ashame the WiFi doesn't reach the snug, only up to where the car is parked and theres no signal :/

Shower and sink were a bit leaky but other than that it was fantastic and I would definitely come back!

A really lovely and comfortable lodge with great facilities- the hot tub and bbq was put to good use and made the stay extra special.

Would definitely recommend this to others and we appreciated the owners being so friendly and welcoming upon arrival. Shame about the lack of signal and connection, however this is understandable in the environment and didn't affect our stay too much at all :) thanks for having us!

It was a joy to have the birds visiting the snug and we were made to feel so welcome.

Everything was spotlessly clean including the hot tub. Lovely cabin, some sharper knives in the kitchen area would have been great, but can't fault anything else.

Loved our stay, a perfect retreat.

The little river at the bottom of the garden was beautiful and I enjoyed my morning cuppa sat beside it. All small details were included, there was nothing missing in the snug. Perfect. Would definitely return.

The holiday was absolutely superb.

The Snug was warm and cosy. Everything was impeccably clean. And our host could not have done more to make us feel welcome. I could not recommend this venue more. First Class!

We had a fantastic few days staying at The Snug, such a peaceful and relaxing place.

The Snug was small and simple but perfect for a romantic weekend getaway. Relaxing in the hot tub with just the sound of the birds, the stream and eventually the bats flying overhead together with star gazing was just perfect. Our only real criticism was the lack of anywhere to dry towels etc. as the weather was very changeable on our visit. We'd read this on another review so took a bungie line with pegs which we hung behind the chiminea. But it certainly didn't spoil our stay.

We had a lovely weekend staying at The Snug.

The owner was very welcoming and explained all we needed to know for our stay. The shepherds hut was perfect and we had such a relaxing time. If I was to be over critical, the outdoor space could do to be a little tidier, grass cut, fencing painted etc. However this did not spoil our stay at all and we would definitely recommend The Snug to our friends. Beautiful and very warm little bit of paradise!

Would definitely recommend. Spotless and they’d left a bottle of Prosecco for us. Very friendly owners and we were left to come and go as we pleased. Very peaceful location but within a few miles of pub and shops. Hot tub was lovely and the fire pit. They’d thought of everything - picnic kit to take outside and a mirror under the bathroom sink.

Lovely stay for the weekend, very private and well equipped for a shepherds hut.

Hot tub great I’m the cold weather but perhaps in winter a canopy over it to keep out the falling leaves

Loved our stay in the Snug!

true to its name, if you love camping you will love this I think we did miss a little oven and stove in it though, the hot tub was the luxury to it but not our thing really but loved the fire pit and was lucky to have a couple of nights sat out with lovely blankets provided, loved the sound of the stream and birds first thing In a morning, so private and quite, visited Carlise, Gretna Green and Hadrians Wall on our stay I would recommend the snug for a break anytime

The snug is a very cosy little place!

Loved coming back to it after a long day at the Lake District. The host was very welcoming and at hand, always there to answer questions. Everything was straight forward, a few insects and flies around which is understandable as it is the outdoors, but nothing anyone can't handle. The bed was very comfortable to sleep in, everything was clean. The jacuzzi was always hot and ready to use! Wifi could have been better and also more recommendations of places to visit nearby - hence the one star less, but other than that is was an amazing stay. Thank you!

What a beautiful stay we had in The Snug.

Its was so cosy and relaxing and more than we expected. It has everything you need to have a relaxing break and we didn't want to come home. I would highly recommend to any couples wanting a break to recharge and get away from it all. The owners Daneille and Trevor, and all the team were so accommodating and even left us a bottle of bubbly on arrival. We will certainly be coming back next year for a weekend recharge. This little snug is heaven on wheels.

Situated in an idillic secluded area, this snug was beautiful. Along with the snug was your very own veranda overlooking a stunning beck. There was also an endless supply of logs and we enjoyed the chiminea every night. The hot tub was amazing and fully set up for our arrival. The snug was comfortable and we slept well every night. There was literally everything we needed. We fully intend coming back and can’t thank the owner enough.

I couldn’t recommend a better stay!

! I had the most incredible weekend for my birthday with my partner. This was 10x more incredible than I expected, the garden was huge and the surrounding was amazing. The shepherds hut was so cosy, comfortable and the interior was beautiful. There was so many little added details which thought was put into making me feel even more welcome. I will 1000% be returning to the Snug. The only small thing it is missing is somewhere to dry your clothes and towels after the hot tub. Like a washing line or even a little drying rack as I was finding it difficult to dry the clothes. I think in summer it would be fine because I could hang these over the fence but I didn’t want to risk it blowing away as the weather isn’t incredible at the moment. Thank you so much for the best stay!!

What a beautiful little shepherd’s hut!

So private and inviting. It was clean, warm and cosy. It far exceeded our expectations and was perfect for our little weekend away. Will definitely book here again.

We stayed for 3 nights at The Snug, from 17th to 20th September 2021.

On arrival we were greeted by a young lady who was very friendly, and showed us to our parking bay, and spoke to us in regards to what we needed to know, for our stay. She also said that she was showing us around as the owners were away. The Snug was very clean, however the grass area had not been freshly cut, which I would have expected, prior to our arrival and the outside table was really dirty, and the chairs had not been washed down - they were dirty too, and covered in leaves. The Snug is advertised as ‘finished to an extremely high standard’, therefore I would have expected this - we thought that maybe because the owners were away, this was missed? We also found that there was no where for our cases. There were drawers under the bed, which were rickety, and hard to open, so we didn’t use them. I also would of liked to have a full length mirror in The Snug (which would have been perfectly situated hung on the inside of the bathroom door). We also felt that there could have been shelves somewhere inside the bathroom, as there was nowhere to put toiletries, which we ended up leaving in our wash bags, which ended up on the little table each day - we just couldn’t keep the place tidy and felt this is most defiantly a place to stay for no longer than one night, maximum two. The towels were very, very disappointing, they were quite small, and very hard/rough. Nice big fluffy towels would have been a nice touch. We also found no where to dry off towels and shorts/swimming costume etc (from the hot tub), therefore I would suggest an area for a clothes line, as this just made the inside of The Snug feel more messy. There were shutters on the windows, however nothing over the glass on the door, or the little window above the bed, therefore we couldn’t really have the full lie in that we were hoping for. The most disappointing part for us was the bed/mattress - we found it really uncomfortable to the point where by day three, we were both struggling, and I ended up pulling a muscle in my neck/shoulder - there was only one pillow each too. Another pillow each should have been an option. We were all ready to make bacon sandwiches one morning, however when we pulled out the portable hob; we found no where to plug in, without removing the microwave from the built in area. The Snug is in a very private area, which is nice and the noise of the river/waterfall is nice to hear too, and of course the hot tub is lovely. We personally thought The Snug was too small for us, especially for a 3 night stay, and although that can’t be changed; we did feel that there could have been some improvements to The Snug to make it much, much better - mainly the bed/mattress. Although it’s not advertised; we also feel that a welcome hamper, bread, milk (not just sachets), butter, jam etc would have been a lovely personal touch, which I’ve experienced in other micro homes - it wouldn’t have cost much, and would be a lovely attribute that would make anyone smile :) This break was booked for my birthday, and although we made it nice, and travelled to different places; we were disappointed with certain aspects of our stay (as above). Our highlight was eating in the beautiful barn, just down from The Secret River Cafe, Longtown, and I urge anyone to go - it’s beautiful. There is nothing in Longtown itself, unless you need to use the SPA - i don’t plan on returning there in a hurry unfortunately.

Loved the fact we was left alone to enjoy our holiday and our area was very secluded.

Very secluded, cosy and private. Danielle was friendly and explained everything. Fizz and marshmallows upon arrival. We loved it and will almost definitely return. A real little gem.

Overall we are both very pleased with our stay!

And would recommend to others, however the cooking situation could be a little better or even having a bigger fridge. The information about the snug when you book needs to be more specific- FOR EXAMPLE (Sachets of milk not a pint of milk) The description says you provide bread and there wasn’t any. I just think small improvements to the description or definitely make sure you have in there exactly what it states. Also, if you are wanting to book the snug you need to take everything from food to washing up liquid. Apart from the food/dissipation malarkey we absolutely loved it & the hot tub was lush!! Just back from the most amazing holiday at the Snug, we loved every minute of it and didn't want to leave.

It's so relaxing and peaceful and such a beautiful place. The Snug itself is just so unique and cosy (the mattress is a bit uncomfortable) but we were so tired from all the hiking we did we were too tired to care. The hot tub was the icing on the cake fir us and so lovely relaxing sitting under the stars. We will definitely going back!

The Snug was gorgeous, so tiny but cute, lovely location right next to the neck and still felt private although there are a few more holiday let’s on the property.

The owners were lovely, the Snug was clean and the marshmallows for roasting and bottle of fizz were a lovely touch. Nice hot in and seating area overlooking the neck so you can sit out at night staring up at the stars too. The only issue we had was the mattress was so uncomfortable as the springs are sticking into you and randomly ping at you loudly in the night even if you stay still, if there was a new mattress would def stay there again and if not would try one of the other let’s on the property.

My partner and I have just recently stayed at the snug in Longtown.

The owners were very welcoming, friendly and extremely helpful. It was a lovely short break. The area was beautiful. The outside space with the hot tub was just perfect, and the bonus was the beautiful view of the stream. We would definitely recommend and we would love to come again:)

Just got back from The Snug and we’re already talking about going back.

What a beautiful slice of heaven. The owners Trevor and Danielle and their team are wonderful. Nothing is too much trouble for them but they also give you space to enjoy your time away. We had everything thing we needed in The Snug to have a peaceful and relaxing weekend away. We loved watching the little Robin and Blue Tit who visited each day. We were also visited by a hedgehog one evening whilst sitting by the fire. I would highly recommend The Snug

Absoulutly amazing 3 nights at the snug, greeted by a lovely girl who explained where everything was and how to use the hot tub, a lovely bottle of prosecco was waiting for us and cake lovely little touch to our stay.

Totally private and we loved every minute. The snug is compact really clever layout, very clean and everything there what you need. The only thing we didn't get used to was the bed was too firm and woke up achey but nothing the hot tub couldn't sort out. Lovely stay highly recommended

The moment we got to the site we were welcomed so nicely.

Shown around and had everything explained to us The snug is ideal for couples, great location. We done a few hikes in the day and were able to come back and relax in the hot tub listening to the sound of the waterfall. Would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to escape and get away

Absolutely brilliant place to stay

We had the most idyllic break in the shepherd's hut.

It was private and intimate and everything we could have possibly wanted. The sound of the River Esk was amazing to wake up to. Just perfect.

Showed around the property (outside only) owner explains the inside as she could not enter with us due to social distancing. Brownies and prosecco on arrival which was amazing. Everything was super clean. Everything worked as expected.

Enjoyed every moment I was here.

We chose the snug for our 4th wedding anniversary and the place didn’t disappoint.

It was both secluded and relaxing and the hot tub was perfect. The outdoor space is excellent and has all the facilities you’d ever need for a relaxing weekend and because the weather was excellent we even managed to see the milkyway at night from the hot tub - I’ve never seen so many stars

Everything was there for us including homemade brownies and a bottle of fizz. We had our own Hot-tub, decking and chiminea and a lovely stream. Danielle and Trevor are lovely people and genuinely wanted to make sure we enjoyed our stay. We hope to return very soon ❤️

The Snug was beautiful and the owners were really lovely and accommodating.

My only concern was the flies. We couldn’t go in the hot tub one night because we were hounded by a huge mass of flies. Overall the stay was great.

My boyfriend and I have just come back from the most relaxing and cosy weekend at The Snug.

It is the perfect retreat for anyone needing an escape from the real world. The pictures are amazing but you really have to visit this place to appreciate just how lovely it is and it is made even more welcoming by the lovely hosts. The little touches they make just made it perfect... Prosecco in the hot tub, toasting marshmallows, sitting out on the lit up decking on the evening. Definitely recommend to anyone wanting to unwind and enjoy some peace and quiet. We're already talking about coming back again. Thank you so much :)

We stayed at the snug in Longtown.

I took my fiancée away a for her 30th birthday when we got there the owners who are very lovely had banners,ballon, Prosecco, chocolates and even baked a brownie cake. The snug was so cosy and tucked away, the decking all light up at night was amazing with the beck in the backdrop. Hot tub was amazing. Will be booking to go there again soon.

We had such a lovely relaxing weekend at The Snug!

Danielle and Trevor are fabulous hosts who make you feel at home and are so generous in terms of a welcome pack, giving us a lift to the March Bank and even borrowed us their wellies! We had such a fantastic time and would love to go back again someday. We have recommended The Snug to family and friends because we loved it so much. Thank you :)

The snug was so perfect.

We booked this the after our wedding for a little get away. We would highly recommend this to any ages, it is so romantic , sitting in the hot tub, starry nights while sipping fizz (from the owners) and the snug lived up to its name. The owners are lovely and made it extra special for us celebrating “the newly weds” We met some lovely local folk who we intend to keep in touch with. Therefore,We will definitely be coming back. The Snug is exactly that - snug, cosy and homely.

Our hosts were incredibly friendly, and the Snug itself was clean and comfortable with all we needed for a short break - there was even homebaked brownies and a bottle of bubbly waiting for us when we arrived, which we very much enjoyed in the hot tub! The setting of the Snug is beautiful and peaceful, and within easy reach of plenty of nearby attractions. Would love to stay here again.
