26 Dukes Meadow

This is our 2nd year of staying at Dukes Meadow.

The cupboards are well stocked with crockery and pans etc. It is well maintained, bright and comfortable and the dogs can run free in the enclosed garden. A good location too to go places. Out of the way of tourist areas. We will definitely book again.

Absolutely fantastic stay, the lodge had everything we could possibly need for our stay.

It was clean, comfortable and spacious. The garden was brilliant for the dogs to run around (they especially loved the little stream at the bottom) and they loved watching the wildlife too. It was the perfect place for us and with local amenities close by. We will definitely be back.

It was stunning :D The pictures don't do it justice, will recommend to others. And it's a good location as well, not too far away from some amazing walks.

great comfy stay loved the Christmas decs vibes very homely my hubby was poorly and my youngest son had epilepsy seizures ended up in hospital but he’s over the worse can’t be helped but overall a good stay thankyou so much.

We really enjoyed our short break at the lodge.

It was everything we could have wished for. It was decorated with a christmas tree and decorations which made it feel really homely. The bed was so comfy. Our two dogs loved the garden and we saw a red squirrel on the fence. The holiday would have been perfect if it hadn't rained as much but it didn't spoil things for us. We would recommend this lodge to anyone looking for a warm, clean and wonderful lodge. The owners certainly deserve our thanks for allowing us to stay.

The lodge was clean and very wll equiped, felt quite closed in on entering the property, however once you turned the corridor it opened up into a fabulous open plan living, cooking dinning area, with a lovely log burner, altho never lit it as there wasn't a lot of logs in lodge, and no shops or garages in the surrounding area.

The garden was quite large, which the dogs really enjoyed running around in, lots of rabbits, pheasants and birds, we did have a blue tit actually in the house, tried to shoo it out the door, think it was comfortable haha, did manage to get it out after five mins of coaxing it went out of the kitchen window. The lodge was in a very secluded area, no lights anywhere, very dark from about 16.30, but no noise, the lane leading up to lodge could do with some maintanence as a bit potholie, some of the pots and pans could do with being replaced, as food stuck to bottom of pans, water was very hot, however the boost on boiler didn't heat up extra water, husband had a bath, I put boost on the get more waited nearly two hours and no hot water, so had a shower instead, did manage to have bath next night, loved the towels at the door for furbabies, we did bring our own as we always do, storage heaters were on when we arrived which made it very snuggly. We stayed from 27/10/25, we could imagine in the summer months it will be glorious enjoyed our stay

Our second visit to this lovely lodge.

Superb garden with a stream and lots of wild birds visited the feeders. We were lucky enough to see red squirrels too! Very comfortable beds and all mod cons. A lovely site for those who want peace and quiet. We will come again!

Such a lovely lodge with a well secured garden.

It was well equipped and spotless with everything we needed. The location was quiet and peaceful and regualry spotted red squirrels and rabbits from the garden.

Just what we needed for a perfect break away from it all.

A beautifully presented lodge in a peaceful location. We enjoyed sitting watching the red squirrels, rabbits and birds in the garden when we weren't out exploring. Would definitely recommend if looking for a quiet getaway, though perfectly located for easy access to the popular spots and historic sites.

Very secure and felt safe letting our dog wander. Also nice level of privacy. Very clean, well set out and maintained inside. Lovely decor. A great location too. Would definitely go back.

we really enjoyed the lodge it was immaculate clean and soo comfortable soo homely even our dogs loved it we loved that the garden was closed off so our dogs could run free outside, we saw lots of wildlife, rabbits and two red squirrels, it was soo pieceful and I loved seeing the birds on a morning coming to there feeder they were soo cute.

Dukes medow was a home from home.

Very peaceful so quiet. Lovely enclosed garden so your pet will be safe outside. We had rabbits and red squirrels in the garden .Lots of places to visit also walks close by. We will return again as we loved this property so much. We would highly recommend staying here.

An absolutely amazing place.

Our stay was fantastic. Perfect location as it’s not far from Penrith but also not too far from Ullswater and other spots.

I felt safe leaving the dogs in the garden and they enjoyed themselves. The Lodge was well equipped and comfortable and all the facilities were there that was needed. It's location was in a lovely area. Very peaceful. We have already booked again.

I think the cottage needs a bit of care front door lock faulty have to lock it from inside all the time otherwise can not not close door if there was a fire very dangerous .

Microwave not very good general appliances need to be updated including shower . I myself run a business with holiday lets so I am familiar with things wants to be attended to . A welcome pack would be nice also no instructions fr any appliances.

We absolutely loved our stay here last week and are sad to be back home again.

Everything we could possibly need was thought of - and even extra helpful things for our rescue greyhound too. The huge windows in the main living area made wildlife spotting so enjoyable. I was able to do lots of wildlife photography just through the windows as there was so much to see! So many birds but also red squirrels and even rabbits, which I wasn’t expecting to see in winter. The garden area was great for our greyhound. At first, we took him out on his lead just to be extra careful, but by the end of the week, we were confidently letting him off lead and he was so happy running around. In terms of inside the lodge, the beds were so comfortable and I found it easy to get to sleep. The lodge was decorated wonderfully with nice animal themed artwork. The log burner was also a nice touch and helped warm the living area up quickly, and also made it extra cosy. It really was just so homely and comfortable! Additionally, the area is so remote and peaceful, and with it being in the middle of nowhere, on a clear night you can see hundreds and thousands of stars! And it’s not far away from some nice locations to visit either, so we had a good balance between visiting busier locations and coming back to a quiet peaceful lodge. We’d absolutely love to come back and will hopefully book again in the near future!

The property suited us perfectly.

Like many of the previous guests, we found the enclosed garden a great asset for our young dog to run around safely. We appreciated the dog towels provided. The kitchen was well-equipped. The only down-side was the large pot-holes in the communal road, though I suppose an individual owner has little influence on that.

Excellent, perfect for our 2 dogs.

Lots of hardwork had gone into building a secure perimeter fence. Our Golden Retriever, loved playing in the stream. Our 2 grandkids loved the selection of games, jigsaws and the stream.

Superb, comfortable lodge.

Only gripe was that stove had not been cleaned out but we did that and never needed to use it! Everything else was of a very high standard!

A lovely lodge.

Very peaceful and everything you need for cooking and relaxing. Nothing within walking distance but lots of places within a reasonable driving distance eg Aira Force waterfalls.

Stayed in this cabin twice and loved it both times.

Very comfortable, convenient in terms of location (close to Penrith, Carlisle & Keswick) with a great garden. Kitchen is well stocked with cooking equipment. Beds are nice and comfy and there’s plenty of wildlife to be seen just out the window. WiFi can be a bit slow but this is my only gripe.

A great base for our Northern Lakes activities and sightseeing.

The accommodation was spacious and clean, and the garden space was enjoyed by the family and the dogs.Perfect, thank you.

Really enjoyed our stay.

Well presented and comfortable lodge set in a large grassy space which was ideal for our small dog as she raced everywhere around the safe confined area surrounding the property, We would definitely recommend. Only one negative in that there could be better lighting within the property as it was a struggle to be able to read.

Amazing relaxing week in this very good large lodge.

The massive garden was ideal for our dog obi also the abundance of wildlife in it. We will definitely be returning in the future thank you.

Could not gain access to key safe,entry dangerous for guests with poor mobility 2 metal steps of different heaights was advised to go to rear where this no step tue but no mention of stepping up onto a raised platform and no grab bars on the wall you have to resort to going on an uneven grass surface which if wet is a serious slip hazard the wood surface is also slippy when whet especially if your using crutches .

The Front entrance would be better with 3 steps of EQUAL HEIGHT and larger grab rails BOTH SIDES Of the steps the welcome file needs updating and without Coffey stains and more unity on the printing style also more detailed instructions, In order to use the hob I had to call the owners to be given instructions . The leather corner couch has extensively worn surfaces on the cushion. I was advised by the cleaner there was a box of matches in the hallway storage cuboard found kindling but no matches or firefighter.i had to go searching for the password for the hifi as the one in the back of the folder does not work as it’s an old one, I eventually Found the correct card which I placed in the folder the level of cleanliness was ok apart from black mould around the rim on the bath on the wall , I believe there should be a clear warning about the danger for guests will Motability issues E Iffy

Have booked almost 6 times now in the past year and will continue to do so. Very clean , tidy and a nice relaxing atmosphere.

We loved every minute staying here, the location is stunning, very quiet and peaceful and loved watching the birds on the feeders and our Huskies loved watching the rabbits.

The cabin has everything that a house usually has although it would have been a bit handy having a fan to use during the hot weather. The garden is perfect and the huskies loved it, very secure and safe and handy having clean fresh water on tap for them. Great location as 20 or so minutes from larger towns while still benefitting from the isolated feel from the surrounding countryside. Felt very comfortable and relaxed here. Highly recommended.

Lovely location dogs enjoyed the large garden area so did we when the sun came out. The lodge has everything you may need for your stay.

Had a relaxing stay at 26 Dukes Meadow in May 2023.

Very peaceful location. Near to typical Cumbrian places of interest ( lakes, hills, pretty villages ), and the lodge was well equipped/comfortable. Enclosed garden in which my dog could roam supervised, and I could sit by the little brook with a cuppa. Explored area by car, but saw many walkers and cyclists. Highly recommend.

This is my third visit to Dukes Meadow.

I love this place and will definitely visit again. The only slight disappointment was the very dirty stove top, the debris left in the woodburning stove and the still full vacuum cleaner of previous dog hairs. I do also think they really should purchase new bedding/pillows and covers. However saying all of this I would still visit but it's a shame things like this happen but maybe the owners are unaware.

3rd time now and will definitely be returning.

What a lovely surprise when we arrived at 26!

Surpasses our expectations because the photos aren’t able to give the atmosphere of the lodge. Immediately we could feel the love you have put into making the lodge, a very special place. What a welcome! Christmas decorations, Prosecco and chocolates! Thank you. The lodge is so very cosy, just perfect and I know we are going to have a very enjoyable stay here. - and we did, thank you.

Excellent accommodation everything there for ones comfort

We really couldn’t fault anything about our stay , everything you could ever need from the kitchen equipment provided, clean towels, bathroom requirements, lovely warming wood burner start kit and even excellent boards games .

We absolutely loved our break away , we will definitely be returning very soon . Thankyou very much and can’t wait to return.

It’s a lovely place in beautiful surroundings and full of wildlife life We found it a little bit isolated and very dark at night no outside lights at all when the dog needed that last walk at night A reliable car is essential as it deserted country side everywhere Other than that we got to see everything we wanted to

We had a fab stay, thank you - everything was wonderful & we had everything we needed for a great week’s holiday.

In all the years we have holidayed in the UK with our dog, this was the very best ‘enclosed garden’ we have ever had & so we could relax knowing our dog could roam without escape. We can recommend this lodge unreservedly.

Amazing

Dukes Meadow looked great when we saw it on the website and it lived up to that in reality.

We were lucky to have a very dry and sunny week but it wouldn't have mattered. The facilities were excellent, we have stayed in cottages with far less thoughtful amenities. The enclosed garden was great for Sasha the dog, who came with us and the wildlife was so lovely to see. We ended up spending every morning watching all the birds, rabbits and red squirrels that turned up for their breakfast and having things to put out for them all was a lovely touch. A great holiday away from all the hustle and bustle and perfect accomodation to unwind and relax

A lovely lodge, in a quiet location.

Our 2 spaniels loved the fully enclosed, large garden area. The lodge was really well equipped with a good size TV, comfy sofa and beds, large table and plenty of seating outside, with loads of extras (like books, games and kitchen utensils) that made it feel like being at home. The log burner looked great, although with 30+ degree temperatures we didn't use it. Thanks so much for sharing your lodge, we'd love to come back to chill out and see the regular visitors to the garden, including red squirrels. Just a couple of tips, loadsa places we've stayed at leave a small welcome pack and there was a few things which was great, but a pint of milk would have been a nice touch as the nearest shop was a reasonable drive; plus a bit more info in the welcome book re places to visit, eat and walk the dogs and BBQ would be great additions too, to what is a great lodge. Second time staying at 26 Duke Meadow and the cabin is a lovely place with everything we would need for a week's stay.

However, on this occasion our wifi was not working and took 4 days to fix. Really hampered me as a couple of days I was working remotely and so required the wifi to be working. Following this, we lost all water for half a day. Constant back and forth between myself and Sykes who then liaised with the owner. After the water issue, I requested some compensation which I felt was reasonable. From here things really went downhill and the owner stated that she was not prepared to compensate anything and they were 'not prepared to negotiate'. We will not be coming back.

We really enjoyed our stay, the site was well maintained with spacious plots.

The garden was fully enclosed, so ideal for our two dogs. Fantastic bird life and red squirrels. Will definitely stay again.

Second visit this year to this lovely lodge and like our first stay absolutely loved it Loved seeing the red squirrels again that were frequent visitors !

The only thing I didn't like was having to leave so we will definitely be back to stay here as soon as we can !!

Wonderful setting, beautiful cabin, with everything you need for a high quality self catering holiday, clear instructions for all devices and appliances, clean, comfortable, the garden is fully enclosed and feels private.

The wildlife in the garden is breathtaking. In a great location, lots to do and see, We have two long haired german shepherd's, they loved their stay. We will be back. Thank you.

We enjoyed our stay that much we booked our next visit before we left, the cabin was thoughtfully well equipped and very comfortable.

It was a great base for visiting the lakes but because it was so warm and cosy we did stop in a couple of days just relaxing and watching the wild life and we especially enjoyed the frequent visits from the red squirrels This cabin was a fantastic place to stay and we are looking forward to our next stay in May and it also get a big paws up from two very happy dogs !

Everything you could want for a relaxing stay.

What a lovely wooden lodge, set in woodland very high up.

Well equipped,very comfortable, about 7 miles from Penrith 13 miles from Keswick and 15 miles from Carlisle. Little stream running through garden. Lots of outside seating. A place to get away from it all You will need your own transport and a love of open spaces. We will return if we can.

We were snowed in for 3 days out of the 3 weeks stay and was amazing! Lots of birds to watch along with red squirrels. A truly lovely stay thank you once again!!

Fantastic lodge,great enclosed outdoor space which the dog really enjoyed running free and our peace of mind knowing that he was safe.

Great open plan living area- clean and cosy,love the wood burner and drying rack very handy if you’ve been our walking all day in the drizzle! Nice big cozy beds and decent shower in the family bathroom. Can’t fault this property and will be returning in the future

The only thing that let the lodge down was the bath.

Mouldy round the edge, obvious that it needs attention, this really should be done. It's a very remote place and had difficulty booking a table at the pub which was 4 miles away as it was always fully booked only managed to get one meal there in a week. No shops other than post office again 4 miles away. You have to go into Penrith 6 miles from Lodge.The garden was perfect for dogs secured well.overall we had a lovely time, but he prepared for a lot of travelling by car.

Very rural location, quiet site.

A good pub is 10 mins drive in Greystoke. 20 mins drive to Penrith, 25 to Pooley Bridge, 40 mins to Carlisle. Lodge was larger than we expected. Great to have enclosed garden. Lots of birds & squirrels to observe. We had one maintenance issue which was dealt with well. Lodge was clean & comfortable.

Dukes Meadow was a lovely property and perfect for our 7 night stay in the North Lakes.

The living space is great and was very comfortable for our family of 5. The garden was gorgeous, well kept and secure with a cute little stream and lots of wildlife. Kitchen is well stocked with everything you could need. Bedrooms and bathroom a little dated but comfortable and clean. Would definitely recommend.

Like many of the other reviews mention, this lodge is much larger than the pictures make out.

It is extremely well equipped (particularly the kitchen) & has a large enclosed & fairly private garden, which was brilliant as we had a dog with us. Beds very comfortable, plenty of bedding & towels & shower was nice & powerful. Set in a really nice quiet location, this was absolutely perfect for our long weekend stay.

Beautiful cabin.

Very accommodating. Would definitely stay again. There are other cabins at this location however this particular cabin appears to have more privacy and the garden is completely enclosed for the dogs.

It is fab, cosy but very spacious and has everything you could think of needing! We will definitely return and hopefully make use of the outdoor space in better weather.

The pictures on the web did not prepare us for how roomy and wonderful this cottage was.

A large fenced in back yard that both children and dogs loved. The view into the yard was private and filled with various wildlife who came to visit. The beds were very comfortable and the number of rooms and size of the accommodations was perfect for our needs. And so clean! Would definitely come back again.

We had a lovely stay here and it surprised us how big the accommodation actually was - the pictures on the web do not do it justice.

The garden was an added bonus - unfortunately though we didn’t have any nice weather to enjoy it. However, we loved sitting at the big dining table for our meals and watching the abundance of wildlife every morning and night - including red squirrels, rabbits, grouse and pheasants. The lodge was well equipped. However, we were unable to find an extractor fan for the bathroom and it took a little getting used to that there was only enough hot water for one person to have a bath a night. However, once we realised this it didn’t detract from our enjoyment of staying there. We would recommend a stay here and as much as we enjoyed it, it was just a little too far from Keswick and all the walks for us. But, if you are looking to just have a break away from all the crowds and hustle and bustle it is definitely the place to go.

Wonderful wildlife to watch and plenty of room for the dogs to run around.

The lodge was spotlessly clean and had the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in at a holiday property. I would highly recommend this lodge.

The cabin was lovely, clean and warm on arrival.

The children really enjoyed looking in the garden for wildlife-spotting the red squirrels was a highlight. Even in the February weather lots to enjoy in the area and this cabin was a perfect base.

Not the company's fault, however, it was mentioned in past reviews that there were plenty of walks for dogs.

This wasn't the case. There is a small area at the entrance of the site, but besides this, there were only the roads available. Had to drive to find decent walks/runs for our pooch. Not really convinced that it's suitable for dog owners. Also, although the property is detached, it is very close to properties on either side. This was not apparent from the property description on the Sykes site. However, the standard of the property was first class. All needs were catered for. The facilities provided were excellent.

The cabin was just gorgeous.

The wildlife that we saw whilst we were there was fantastic. The comfort and warmth of the cabin was just what we needed. There was so many places to visit that were nearby but, even just the surrounding area was beautiful enough that on an evening we ventured out for short walks and again were met with stunning wildlife and we even saw a meteor due to the clarity of the night sky around us. Being there began to feel a like home, making it almost feel difficult to leave.We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and we will definitely be returning again.

A nicely equipped cottage.

Fantastic accommodation and excellent location for a relaxing break away.

Really loved this accommodation so cosy and nicely decorated.

Lots of extra facilities etc that did not really expect, just seemed really well thought out.

Loved my week here, arrived on a chilly day to find the heating was on and the place was lovely and warm.

Beautifully clean throughout. All the beds were comfy as was the recliner sofa. Was lovely to sit on the sofa and watch the wildlife in the garden - red squirrels, woodpeckers, nut hatches, tree creepers, finches, blue tuts and rabbits of course! Had a great week exploring Kendal, Grasmere, Glenridding and surrounding areas then returning to this lovely lodge. Highly recommend this accommodation if comfort is important to you at the end of the day.

We had amazing time at Dukes Meadow!

Everything was sorted in no time, we booked the cottage on the day that we actually planned to stay... within few hrs everything was arranged! Cottage was situated in very quiet, beautiful area... amazing walks, mountains around... on the first morning we were surprised with the snow outside, which was magnificent! Very close to Keswick where you can see amazing lake and old town... the cottage was very welcoming, clean and comfortable. Owner called us if we need anything, first thing when we arrived. Overall everything was perfect and we will be delighted to come back, maybe next year... thank you very much for this great opportunity!

You might find that eventually fencing across the front at both sides might help keep dogs and kids safe from any momentary lapses of supervision (?!)...........escape and paddling in the stream....... being their prime goals!! :)

Not happy with the stay at all, we expected so much more considering we were staying Over Christmas in a Sykes cottage.

The lodge was very VERY dirty! Can send pictures if required. This is the first time Iv booked through Sykes. The booking and emails reicved leading up to our stay were easy and a very professional feel... A friend actually recommended us booking through Sykes as to ensure Everything would be perfect over Christmas. I was told / expected Sykes cottages were to a very very high standard..... This wasn’t the case. We have stayed In cleaner / more equipped accommodations through private lets. Very very disappointed.... wouldn’t recommend.
