“My issue is not with Sykes cottages, but having decided to take our granddaughter on a last minute holiday we booked 10 Duck Lagoon as it looked just the job for a weeks break, however following our hortened stay we would not recomend this particular lodge to anyone.”
The facilitites at the lodge were ok but very dated compared with other surrounding lodges on the site and there was a foul smell of drains every time the washer, dishwasher, toilet's or showers were used, that would stay for around 30 mins until vented out.
The hot tub outside had a horrible stagnant smell to the water and was green in colour, the filter in the bottom had hair and other items stuck in the grill. On the fourth day of us being there a subcontractor came and just put 2 chlorine tablets in the filter but did not clean it out. We didn't let our granddaughter in the hot tub due to the state of the water as I felt it not safe and could have contained legionella bacteria.
We paid £1561 for a 5 night stay and then found out at the last minute to access the main facilities on the site of Tattershall that we would have to get guest passes from the owner at a futher cost of £240 paid direct to the owner to be allowed to access the bars, restaurant's, arcade and children's play park, then on top of this the activities for our granddaughter i.e swimming, crazy golf and lake aqua park had to be booked at further cost.
Then on our last day being Saturday as we were due to leave Sunday morning the 1st Sept our access to the site facilties were blocked by security as the guest passes we paid £240 to the owner of 10 Duck Lagoon for expired at midday on Saturday the 31st Aug. Therefore we decided enough was enough and we packed our bags and went home on Saturday afternoon, one night early.
We were very upset that we were forced to leave early due to the cost spent on the rental of the lodge, the guest passes and the futher cost of swimming, golf, and aqua park which came to around £1921 for a 4 night stay and not a 5 night stay as planned and booked.
We are very dissapointed with this experience.
Duck lagoon is a rustic wooden built lodge with modern facilities and brand new dining set along with upgraded kitchen. The decking had Astro turf laid this year and a new bbq installed. Other than the lodge being a rustic building it has all the modern conveniences of every other property in the park.
The hot tub is emptied between every guest and maintained and checked every day to ensure there is no legionella the hot tub maintenance company is park approved and certificated to maintain the hot tub. This is legal requirement.
Guest passes and pricing of AwayDays are not controlled by the owner. The Sykes listing clearly states passes are purchased separately, we have no control over the time the passes expire that is also controlled by Away Resorts.
At no time did you mention any issues with the drains, however the park does on occasion when we have wet weather back up with water and the drains can run slower, this is out of our control and the cleaning team ensure the drains are all cleaned and bleached every change over.
You also did not make contact regarding any issues with the hot tub as we would have asked the hot tub company to attend the lodge and check the hot tub for you. Chemical levels are checked and chlorine added. If guests leave the hot tub lid open and over use the hot tub it can send the water a green colour, if this occurred during your stay then the only option would have been to empty and refill the hot tub and leave you without use for 24 hours while it returned to temperature. Guests are asked to respect the hot tub and keep the lid on when not in use to ensure the chlorine doesn’t all burn off in the daylight.
Perhaps contacting us during your stay to advise of any issues would have been helpful as we would have gone out of our way to rectify any concerns you have. In retrospect sadly we cannot rectify any issues as you have chosen to make note of these things after your stay, much of which is completely out of the lodge owners control.
