“Heron Lodge is superb.”
The lodge is modern, comfortable and beautifully presented - a real credit to the owners. Its about a 10 minute drive from Spilsby and sits in open countryside. The lodge itself is about 150m away from the road down a gravel driveway. The open plan layout works well and the lodge felt very spacious although the single bedroom lacks much hanging space and could maybe benefit from some blackout curtains unless you appreciate early starts. The lodge is very well equipped and the owners have clearly put a lot of thought into what guests might need, especially the little 'extra' things such as a picnic basket and binoculars to borrow, spare batteries for the TV remote, notepaper, magnifying glass, plenty of information about the area and its attractions as well as a good selection of books, magazines, DVDs and games for any wet days. It just creates a feeling that everything you might need for a self-catering break is there, including all the things you have forgotten. There was also tea, coffee, milk and cake to greet us with, much appreciated. The real attraction are the 20+ acres of grounds the Lodge sits in and in which guests are able to wander along the mown paths maintained by the owner. The grounds are a little steep in places (but no problem for an 84 year old) and consist of woodland, meadow and four small lakes. A stroll through these grounds observing the wildlife (deer, rabbit, partridge, pheasant, owls and of course Heron amongst others) is a great way to end a Spring day.
All in all, can't recommend Heron Lodge highly enough and hope to return one day. Many thanks to the owners for helping to provide a very memorable break
