Nant y Garnedd

This was our 2nd stay at Nant Y Garnedd … such a quirky little “Hobbit Home” in Gwynedd.

We loved it so much the first time we came again! Very compact yet has all the facilities you’d expect in a larger accommodation … sitting area, very small but well thought out bathroom, separate bedroom and a small but very well equipped little kitchen area. I cooked on two nights and found this easy to do and once I’d got to grips with the cooker. There are places to eat but quite a drive from the home. We used the hot tub this time and enjoyed it but probably wouldn’t do that again (personal choice, not hot tub people). You can’t fault the view!! It’s fantastic, miles of stunning Countryside visible from the porthole type windows and door with the added attraction of the sheep who visited daily! We went to Aberystwyth (lovely Town) and Barmouth (small but worth a visit) on two of the days but stayed in otherwise as the weather was pretty bad. It poured solidly on our last day but we weee happy to just stay and relax, the scenery was still gorgeous even then. Worth mentioning the bed too high for me due to knee pain issues so I slept on the sofa which was comfortable. Overall a wonderful place to stay and would recommend as a delightful quirky and happy place to be. Best to go in high summer when weather is good. Thank you, it was great.

The accommodation is in a magical setting, stunning views, great to be in with nature, occasional appearance of the sheep in the garden.

Lovely hot tub, a bit of a faff to get it working but worth it and owners happy to help starting it off, don’t forget extra towels to dry you off these are not provided. Sitting in the outdoor snug was lush. Plenty of space to park your car. Plenty of walks from the doorstep. Property lovely, bedroom fab, bed comfy, need to bring your hairdryer as not provided and a travel iron. Lounge, to be honest didn’t turn on the tv or sit on the sofa as was soaking up the outdoor atmosphere. Kitchen good size for what you need, agree with previous comments some of the cooking utensils should be replaced. There could have been a few cleaning products. Bathroom small but adequate for what we needed, toilet seat broken I think that was also mentioned in a previous review. There could have been somewhere to put wet clothes to dry out particularly after a long wet day outdoors. Despite tiny niggles I would definitely come back thank you.

We had a lovely few days in the Hobbit House, it is an incredible setting and we loved the opportunities to see wildlife both while at the accommodation and in the local area.

In terms of the accommodation itself, the WiFi didn't work for the whole of the stay and unfortunately the response from the owner on this was limited. There were a couple of inconveniences with the property - bathroom door doesn't close for example, heating is concentrated in the bedroom only... were these inconveniences to be sorted it really would be a 5* treat of a place to stay as it is a beautiful location.

Overall good, but some simple changes can make it much better.

Positives- 1) Amazing location, one of the best I've stayed in after many years of travelling to Wales. Views are fantastic, very quiet at night and you feel connected to nature. Sound of the stream and animals is all you hear. 2) Very unique and charming accommodation 3) Fantastic host. We had some issues with wifi and TV (not unexpected in rural Wales!) but she was kind enough to come out multiple times to get them fixed. We appreciated it so much, she went over and above Negatives- There are some bug bears which wont take much effort to improve that are not given any attention. I've gone back and noticed some of these come up in reviews from as far back as 2024 and haven't been actioned. I'm an experienced traveller, I was not expecting 5* luxury, and I have challenged myself to be as reasonable as I can with how it needs to improve. 1) General cleanliness was below standard. I can tell a professional cleaner is not used on the property. Hairs in the bed, and in the hot tub (not ours because they were blonde!). The bathroom has mould specs in it on the ceiling and dust/cob webs in the extractor which you can tell has been there for a while. Toilet seat was loose, and was dirty around the hinges. Not nice at all. In the kitchen the utensils have non-stick coat peeling off them. Just neglected. Replace them! 2) The lighting is horrendous. In the living area there are 14 spotlights in the ceiling (far too many) which when turned on feel like you are under a flood-lit football pitch. There is no other lighting in the lounge. No lamp for the evening? Simple up-lighter from argos for £15 is a simple solution for evening lighting....? Similar story in the bedroom. Despite there being bedside lamps they have bright white bulbs in them..! Who puts white bulbs in bedside lamps! Its just not well thought out... Dim yellow bulbs!!! 3) General fixtures/furnishings need an upgrade. The bathroom door is hung incorrectly, there is a 2 inch gap at the top and a gap on the side. Its right next to the kitchen. Not nice to be sitting on the toilet but you can see into the kitchen. Call a carpenter and get it re-hung? £50? I mean seriously.... We had to stuff a towel in the gap at the top. How has the owner not fixed this?! The circle window in the bedroom has a rudimentary cover to hang over it. Its broken and it leaves a gap, so in the morning the sun comes in. Again we had to faff around with hanging a jacket over one of the hooks to block the gap. Fit a curtain...? Similarly in the lounge there is no curtain..? Absolutely bizarre given it can be to be a used as a sofa-bed. If anyone stayed on the sofa-bed they would be woken up at 6am by light. The internal door mat is tiny. When you open the door you have to step off it to close the door. Completely pointless in rural wales. You come back from hiking in muddy boots and worry about making a mess on the floor. Buy a big door mat and put a shoe rack there for guests! A 1 meter door mat is £20. Whats the point in the tiny one? No common sense... similarly there is no rug in the lounge in front of the sofa. The sofa is also uncomfortable and if you sit in the corner is dips and you basically fall off. There is a tiny fan heater which we had to use in the lounge as the underfloor heating was not effective when it was cold. Again, crazy. install a panel heater? or provide a free-standing panel heater? It would even be cheaper to run!!! Also as mentioned above a rug would help warm the floor. Just uncomfortable to be honest. It just doesn't work. You sit on the uncomfortable sofa, trying to get warm with a tiny fan heater drowning out the sound of the TV. The TV is ancient and the sound is blown (sounds tinny so you can barely hear it). Outside the hot tub is great, but there are no hooks for towels. Again, lacks common sense. Screw in some hangers for £5 from the hardware store? I think the owner needs to deep clean it and spend £500 sorting out some very easy to fix issues which unfortunately ruined what would have been a 10/10 stay. Great potential, but at the moment its neglected and has been cheaped out on. Great stay, but expect to be annoyed and frustrated at the little things which lack common sense. We stayed for 4 nights so you can understand how these things wind you up.

Our accomodation was wonderful and very comfortable and clean .

The views around us that we woke up to each morning added to the nice , peace and quiet setting . We would definitely stay there again. The only thing we would add would be the use of a washing line to hang costumes and swim shorts after using the hot tub .

What a beautiful place.

The right amount of isolation and not far from so many places of interest. Once you get used to the rhythm of keeping the tub hot you'll be delighted to dip several times a day and watch the Kite and Buzzard circle above. Very well equipped. Warm. Comfortable. I loved the solitude and will return for sure.

An absolute gem of a place.

There is nothing not to like. Lots of little things that make your stay that little bit better, welcome pack, the soft blankets to curl up in. Great fun trying to get the hot tub going and a real sense of achievement when you're sitting in it looking up at the night sky. We travelled out a couple of days and the accessibility to other places is good too. Definitely will be coming back.

A lovely property in the most peaceful location we have ever stayed in.

Nice welcome package on arrival, the views are incredible. Cozy accommodation with all the essentials for an easy getaway. Lovely walks nearby and not too far from some great beaches. Hot tub was great way to unwind each evening, would highly recommend!

I can’t imagine a more perfect place to stay to recuperate from my foot surgery!

This is a beautiful hobbit home which has been so cleverly thought out in terms of space, comfort and ambiance. The scenery here is fantastic and such a calming place. Unable to use the hot tub due to risk of infection for my recovering foot but this is a welcome addition and would have been wonderful. The accommodation is very comfy (lovely bed, great nights sleep!) and the cooking facilities are very good with a small fridge. We were left a bottle of Prosecco for when we arrived (thank you) and some milk to start us off. TV was a bit difficult but I used my Netflix account to watch so we did get TV facilities, but mostly we read and enjoyed the scenery! Even being less mobile was no problem. Lovely shower room too. The sheep were very friendly and even came to the door to stare at us! One lamb sat a few feet away when we sat in the sun. This is the perfect retreat (and there are walks/drives out from here) and we had the BEST few days. We definitely will return next year. Thank you!

Amazing place and spectacular view , recommended to try

Honestly the most gorgeous holiday that I have ever been on.

This was my first holiday with my boyfriend and we loved the location, the hobbit hole (cannot believe we even had the chance to stay in one of these!) and the farm life all around us

Really excited arriving to the location.

- Toilet Seat seemed broken - Sink knob was a "screw" - Shower kept falling off the wall as it was help up by a rusty screw - Seemed like most of the 3 days was trying to heat that Tub! Review's regarding that were correct. It was very difficult to operate, and gets to optimum temperature on day 3. Shame. - We rang up to say a Sheep was dying or died 2 feet from the tub and seating area, it took someone 4 hours to come and collect it.

Beautiful relaxing retreat cosy loved hot tub to be surrounded by nature would definitely return and thoroughly recommend

Amazing property in a stunning location.

Very well equipped with everything you need, and the bed was super comfy! We loved soaking in the hot tub, admiring the views, and watching and listening to the birds - and the sheep!

Such a cute and neat little space - tidy and tucked away in a soul-refreshing spot in the hills.

Absolutely amazing holiday.

We didn’t want to leave! The hobbit house was above and beyond what we expected. The interior was super clean, the exterior was mind blowing from seeing red kites circling, to sheep and lambs in the field saying hello, squirrels and an abundance of wild pheasants. Also Tornado jets going up the valley. The bed was so comfortable we slept for hours, sat on the sofa watching the wildlife and not forgetting the hot tub! 7* at night and sat in a hot bath watching the stars! We met the family who run it who were brilliant. They even brought my partners birthday present up to us delivered by Amazon! Can’t wait to come back for another amazing week. Thank you

Unfortunately there was a strong smell of damp in the property.

I would suggest a more comfortable sofa and maybe some soft lighting for the evening and maybe a rug in the lounge area, as the underfloor heating doesn't extend to that bit. The bathroom door was slightly warped and didn't close properly. The surround area is stunning.

Really enjoyed our New Year stay at Nant y Garnedd.

Once we had clarified the location with the owner, the sat nav took us straight to the front door. Our meetings with the owner were very pleasant and they helped us with the hot tub one afternoon and ensured it was ready for use when we arrived on arrival day. They also provided us with extra logs so we could enjoy it on our last full day. The property was very comfortable with modern facilities. The bed was out of this world comfortable and the underfloor heating made for pleasant steps out of the bed in the morning before donning our slippers. There was a smell of damp within the property, particularly around the fridge and there was a feeling of damp in the bathroom, which was noticeable underfoot and on the toilet cistern. We utilised scented candles to combat the smell as best we could, and tried to keep ventilation flowing throughout the property. The property was equipped with a dehumidifier which we kept on for the duration and the kitchen and bathroom both had extraction fans which we used when cooking and during/after showering to help. The hot tub was a nice little touch, especially being a wood burning hot tub. We did find however that we couldn't get it quite to temperature that we could fully enjoying, finding ourselves sitting around the stove side of the tub more often than not. However, it was deep into winter so understand the tub was working overtime. All in all we would definitely recommend the property to our friends and family who are after complete escapism, but if the damp issue could be worked on a little more this would get a 10/10.

Very comfortable and warm, we loved that we had an extra heater which really came in handy on those cold mornings!

Complete silence around us which we really needed, it was perfect! The hobbit hole was an amazing experience so thank you!

The cabin is absolutely gorgeous, I really enjoyed staying here The only suggestion I would make is maybe provide mood lighting as the lighting was a bit too bright, and a softer tone or the ability to control the brightness of the lighting would make the stay exceptional.

What a beautiful and unique place to stay.

We loved the property and it's quirkiness. It was beautiful and clean and comfortable. The welcome bottle of prosecco and crisps and treats was a lovely touch! It was a little smaller than we imagined but it was fine. It would have been good to have curtains on the living room for privacy and a coffee table. It was a little more remote than we had envisaged also but a great place to stay.

What a beautiful part of Wales.

The 'hobbit' cottage was amazing and loved by ourselves and our two granddaughters age 9 and 12. So peaceful and the views were magnificent. The hot tub was used daily and very relaxing in such superb surroundings. Would love to go again sometime

Love this place.

Very private . Daily visits by sheep which is fun. Hosts are very friendly and very helpful. Hot tub was amazing. We did drive past because we came from the other direction . (What 3 words would have been handy.) The cooker and hob was easy to use. Plates and glass ect were high end items/brands , which is unusual for a holiday let . it made it all the more special. We had an amazing time. Definable recommend the Hobbit Hole for any special occasion or romantic get away.

We loved our bank holiday weekend!

Such a lovely location, we relaxed in the hot tub and enjoyed a couple of relaxing evenings in the outdoor dining area and a lovely day exploring Portmerian. The hobbit house was very clean and comfortable. Hosts were incredibly helpful.

We all had an amazing time at Nant y Garnedd especially our 2 little girls they had so much fun and didn’t want to come home and keep asking to go back which we plan on doing in the near future.

The property owners could not do enough for you always at the end of the telephone , post code takes you to the property and the scenery from the hobbit hut is very special , I would highly recommend this property it’s so well kitted out ,this was a Xmas present from my daughter and it was a special one

It was absolutely amazing.

Everything was perfect from the hot tub, the hut and the scenery. Couldn't of asked for a better weekend away, it was so relaxing and we can't wait to go back again.

It was very clean and tidy and is in a very peaceful area with great views. The owners were really friendly and helpful if you wanted help with anything. Would highly recommend a stay there if you want a quiet, relaxing break. Would love to stay there again sometime.

We had a wonderful week in a quiet, beautiful location.

The property was well-maintained and tastefully appointed. It was too chilly for us to brave the hot tub, but I imagine it would be lovely when the weather is kinder. We loved watching the red kites flying across the valley.

Lovely property surrounded by the most beautiful views.

Compact but well laid out! Great space for 2 adults with plenty outside space. Lots of extra details which make the stay perfect. Great place to visit for total relaxation. The only thing I would say is the fridge is quite small and could only fit a few days fresh food. This was not an issue for us as we were our daily and there are lovely places to eat 20 minutes away. Highly recommend for a different experience! 5/5

Fantastic property and facilities.

Brilliantly placed for peace and quiet with great views. Help on hand with more fire wood for the tub when required, very much appreciated. Postcode will take you right to the property, just ignore the yield road markings. It appears as a one way road but it isn’t.

We had a lovely 5 days in Nant Y Garnedd, small but well equipped for two adults and a 10 year old, and spent some lovely days out in surrounding areas, beaches, lake.
