Red Kite Hut is a homely shepherd's hut nestled on the outskirts of the beautiful village of Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant in Powys.
Its rural location allows you to enjoy the scenic and panoramic views of the Welsh countryside, making for a perfectly romantic and remote escape with a furry friend.
Step up to an enclosed and furnished veranda where you'll be able to enjoy your meals and country views alfresco when the sun is shining or during the winter, light the fire pit, and cuddle up with a steaming hot beverage.
Relax in the rustic wood fired hot tub and take in its soothing ambience; The crackling fire and warmth enhance the relaxation and enjoyment you feel when soaking in the hot tub; Immersed in the natural water, surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature, with the sounds of the stream settling in the air!
Inside, be welcomed into a compact but charming studio-style living space made warm by the woodburning stove.
Cook up your meals in the kitchenette, lounge on the plush double bed as you watch TV, and unwind under the hot spray of the walk-in shower after a long day out.

We had a great stay for our anniversary.
The hospitality was amazing. The tub was ready and waiting for our arrival. Brought us a freshly made loaf was delicious. A card and chocolate gift left also. These little things matter. We did a lot of exploring Wales then lovely chilled out when returned. Weather was superb so out on decking a lot. Would recommend.

Gorgeous little hut in a super rural setting, perfect for those who want a real break away.
The hut has a lovely wood fired hot tub with a beautiful view over the fields. The inside is really homely with a log burner if required and lovely little extras like a loaf of fresh bread. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and well kept. Parking on site available. The hosts were absolutely fantastic and were always available over text if I needed them. Would recommend

The Red Kite Hut was ideal for me and my Jack Russell.
We have just returned home after a very enjoyable 4 night stay.Heather and Graeme were brilliant hosts,nothing was too much trouble,and they certainly went that extra mile to ensure you had a comfortable stay.The home made bread was a nice touch as well - thank you. The location is really tranquil set in the hills of Powys ,and the hot tub on the decking was so relaxing after a day out walking. Graeme or Heather would light the Log burning water heater in good time for your return if you messaged them.What a service. The info book inside the Hut is very informative,with details of local walks and many other useful ideas for places to visit. The local village is only 3 miles away,so very handy for things you forget. All in all a very enjoyable stay.Thank you Heather and Graeme.David and Molly.

Excellent location to get away from day to day life and switch off and relax, waking up to the sound of the stream to stargazing on a night time.
On arrival the very informative information booklet listed local attractions and ideal walks to see the beautiful Welsh Landscape, Hosts Heather and Graham checked what time we were arriving to have the wood fired hot tub ready for us and had some seasonal treats waiting for us on arrival. Best place to go with a doggo on a mini break. overall experience 10/10.

Loved staying at red kite it was very “off the beaten track” and just what we needed being from Birmingham.
Hosts were very accommodating and attentive. Had a lovely chat with Graham who made suggestions to nice places close by, with great local knowledge! There was a lovely information book when we arrived, thought this was a prefect idea!! Laminated guides as to how the fires were made and maintaining them. Very dog friendly great for walks. Planning to come back in the summer!!

A lovely location.
Plenty of opportunities for local walks. Within an hour's drive there are also lots of great places to visit. Heather and Graham are lovely people and really made me feel at home I would highly recommend staying here.

We had an amazing holiday, nothing was to difficult for Heather and Graeme, we were away for our 25th wedding anniversary, they gave us a card and present which made it even more special and Heather was kind enough to send an email to us for recommendations on where to visit.

Just got back from our stay and Heather went above and beyond for us!
After being there just over a day and half I became unwell and Heather did everything she could to help me and checked on me the whole time! Even though I was poorly for most of the week, everything about our little hut was relaxing and it was home from home. There was parking for us, everything was always clean and the description of everything advertised was spot on. The freshly baked bread was so nice. We went on a trip to the waterfalls and had a nice day out there. Fresh towels were given to us, nothing was too much trouble. Couldn't ask for a better hostess! Thank you so much!! xx

Great little get away.
Heather and Graeme were great hosts from start to finish. Greeted with a freshly baked loaf of bread. Hot tub was heated and ready to enjoy on arrival. Everything in the shepherds hut was immaculate, allthe facilities you need. Lucky enough to see shooting stars and satellite train (look it up) whilst relaxing in the Hot tub. Could keep going on. But go check it out for yourself. Awesome.

A cosy place to stay.
The decking area is excellent to relax on, with the wood fired hot tub. Bit of a pain having to wait a couple of hours to heat up, nice touch by the owner's to ask what time we were arriving so that it could be nearly ready when we got there. The home made bread was a nice thought too.

We had a wonderful two-night stay!
The accommodation had everything we needed and felt like a home away from home. Our hostess was incredibly welcoming and kind, and the freshly baked homemade bread waiting for us on arrival was such a lovely touch. We truly enjoyed our time here and would absolutely love to return!

What a beautiful place.
It was so peaceful and tranquil. Upon arrival we were welcomed with fresh home made bread, butter & jam. Heather & Graeme are so accommodating, nothing was too much. They came & helped with the hot tub & on our last day, we were out all day & after asking they very kindly had our hot tub ready for us. The perfect end to a busy sightseeing day. Such a stunning place, we will definitely be going back

Heather & Graeme were really helpful & welcoming. The shepards hut is comfortable and clean. Such a beautiful area it is in & lots to do and explore! We especially enjoyed visiting the Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall! Our little dog enjoyed it too. Thank you so much

Nothing but the sound of sheep and the stream below and we were completely left alone for our whole stay. The cabin was perfect for the 2 of us and a loaf of fresh bread on arrival was a lovely addition.

Very relaxing experience, the hosts are so welcoming and friendly.
The hut is beautiful, finished to a high standard with everything you need. The location is idyllic, the hot tub luxurious experience gazing at the stars in the night sky. The warm homemade bread an extra thoughtful touch. Hoping to book again later in the year

Such a cozy hidden gem in the mountains, owners were lovely and helped with whatever we needed and stocked up on anything we asked.
Hot tub was a cherry on top and the bed was the comfiest bed we have slept in. The hut definitely excelled our expectations and the stream outside was so peaceful. No issues with the facilities and the utensils and equipment were all of good quality and everything was spotless when we arrived. Not far from local pubs which served great food which the owners recommended so thank you. We would definitely stay in this hut again we had a wonderful experience, thanks you Graham and Heather for a lovely stay and with all your help. Brilliant !

A real gem of a property.
Every detail has been carefully thought through in such a small space. The heating is easy to control but the wood burner gave an extra boost if needed. I was not cold despite the frost and wind outside. Kitchen is very well equipped with good quality cooking utensils (and sharp knives - which is an unusual find for me!). The bed and pillows are very comfortable providing a good nights sleep. The hot spa tub was the cherry on top, making my trip one of the most relaxing I’ve had in a long time. Heather and Graeme have put together a comprehensive guide book for the hut and the local area which was perfect for someone like me travelling on their own. Truly wonderful hosts. When we did the finishing touches on the Red Kite, we had a couple of friends (cooking lovers, comfort lovers) who we asked to look at it and from their suggestions we added to our first ideas a few times. I'm afraid to say the very first guests we have had to message for a bottle opener! I've no idea how we missed that. My friends are inclined to enjoy a glass or 2. I'm glad it was well equipped & comfy for you. I'm still jealous you saw the Northern Lights during your stay but thanks for showing me how to use my camera on my hone to capture it. I'm glad the guide book was useful and you enjoyed the local walk from the walks suggested. If you’re looking for a superb couples retreat with fantastic hosts , lots of quality little touches, walks on your doorstep ( literally) - and a super hot tub to watch the stars set on the hills- you’ve found it.
Can’t speak highly enough of the hosts. They turned a problem ( being snowed in !) into a delight with their genuinely warm, friendly and helpful response. Try the freshly baked bread and warm croissants too, you’ll be glad you did.

The property was very cosy, homely and clean.
The facilities were great - the bed was really comfy, decent kitchenette and the hot tub was lovely. The log fire was a nice touch as well. Heather and Graeme were fantastic hosts, they made us feel very welcome and went out of their way to go the extra mile for us and made our stay extra special. We would definitely visit again.

Couldn’t fault anything. The hot tub was incredible and the enjoying the homemade bread in the mornings before taking our dog on a walk was the perfect start to the morning. The owners couldn’t be anymore helpful and we are looking at coming back again in 2025!

Me and my rescue collie Betty had an enjoyable stay at this property.
Lovely and clean and cosy particularly the cute little wood burning stove which made it very homely. Saw lots of red kites, pheasants and other birds and the first tree creeper I've seen in 10 years. Great for looking at the stars due to low light pollution levels. Thanks for a lovely 5 days. Jo and Betty

The wood burner in the hut does make it super cosy & toasty when it's on. We're glad you liked it. With the valley being remote & very rural there is an abundance of birds and nature on the doorstep. We're glad you saw the Red Kites they are so elegant to watch. It is also a fabulous star gazing sight. We're not a dark skies area, but on clear nights the stars you can see are amazing. With all the solar flares on the sun this year, we've also had two Northern Lights sightings. Unfortunately, not by us but by two different guests. Our stay here was amazing.
Heather and Graeme were exceptional hosts, nothing was too much for them. They recommended restaurants and local attractions when we asked, they helped solve our pizza crisis when we stupidly bought oven pizzas before checking if we had an oven and they even brought us freshly baked croissants on our last morning. This has been one of the nicest stays we’ve ever had through Sykes and we’ve been using the company for over 8 years. We don’t tend to holiday in the same place twice, however this may end up being an exception!

Amazing cabin, gorgeous area would definitely stay again.
Owners were lovely, had an issue with the hot tub and they sorted it very quickly.

Lovely little hideaway stay.
Perfect for a short break away. We did have a problem with the hot tub not working properly due to a power cut but the owners were more than helpful getting it sorted out and most apologetic. Much appreciated

Had a lovely stay at red kite, fantastic addition of the lazy spa made it an even more relaxing stay.
Enclosed decking area was perfect to leave the door to the hut open and my dog to relax and sniff the fresh air. The field at the start of the drive was perfect for my dogs morning walk before we went on adventures to surrounding areas. Really friendly owners that were happy to help whenever needed. 5 stars!
It's lovely to hear from you. The decking was a recent update and I love the fact that guests and pets are both loving it. With the gate, it does give you peace of mind that your dog is safe, while you relax in the Lazy-Spa. We're glad you enjoyed the field with a doggie and owner path for a wander and sniff! Wow, what can I say … a gorgeous lovely little slice of heaven hidden away in the valley!
! Quite remote and very wild, which is exactly what we wanted. The hut was so cosy inside with lovely comfy furnishings, we particularly loved the throws and big cushions on the bed- now the bed ….. was the most comfiest bed we’ve EVER slept in! We’ve stayed in quite a few accommodations and nowhere else has ever had a bed that comfy! We loved that Red Kite is dog friendly as this meant our Springer Spaniel Biscuit could come along too. I’ve never seen him as calm and settled so well in the hut. We would have loved to have lit the log burning stove but it was too warm (back end of May) but would love to do that on a winter trip! The kitchen area was neat and compact, had everything needed to prepare and cook a meal which was perfect.The hut also has a lovely secure gated decking area which provides great peace of mind when having a dog, it meant he could potter about freely and poke his head through the fence beams to spy on the birds!! We thoroughly enjoyed sitting out on and listening to the tranquility of the nearby stream trickling away and the beautiful bird song. The views of the mountains and the mist over the tops was absolutely incredible. The lazy spa was a wonderful surprise as this wasn’t available when we made the booking but Heather and Graeme reached out to us a few days before arrival to tell us it was there and ready to use which was brilliant! It was a great way to unwind after a day of exploring! We visited Chirk trout farm and smokery which was absolutely amazing… would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to support local businesses. We had smoked trout fillets and also trout sausages which were delicious. We enjoyed a lovely visit to Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall too which is only a short drive away and that is MUST if you love nature, it is breathtaking and last but not least Lake Vyrnwy and Dam. Amazing architecture and stunning wildlife and views. We absolutely loved our stay and felt so relaxed we were sad to leave! We will definitely be heading back soon!
Whoa, what can we say?!?! What feedback to read. Thank you for making the time to complete this for us and add your thoughts about your stay. We have never thought of it as 'a little slice of heaven' but I think Red Kite truely has that too. :) Great recommendations to our future guests - thankyou! We haven't tried the Trout Farm in Chirk but we're going to make a visit next time we are on our way to Chirk. You'd be more than welcome to visit of course. Enjoy your upcoming adventures.
