“Property was completely misrepresented when we booked and has since been changed.”
No one at Sykes is responding to me, worst company I’ve ever dealt with, still trying to find out how to escalate. See below for a detailed list of the issues we encountered and AVOID AT ALL COSTS:
• The property is described as a “lodge,” but in reality, it is a glamping pod — a significant misrepresentation.
• The listing implied a private, detached property. In fact, we had only a very small, clearly defined section of a shared area (photo attached).
• No oven was provided, despite us bringing food to cook. The kitchen was extremely limited, with just two hob rings — wholly inadequate for a family of four.
• Only one pillow per person was supplied. We’ve never stayed anywhere with such minimal provisions.
• The accommodation was very cramped for two adults and two teenagers.
• No mirrors in the bedrooms or bathroom (aside from a small shaving mirror).
• The cost — over £400 for three nights — is excessive for glamping, especially considering the standard of the facilities.
• The dining area was a folding table with stackable chairs — not a proper dining space.
• Kitchen fixtures were of poor quality and roughly finished.
• The site was noisy, busy, and far from the peaceful setting we expected. We would never knowingly book a campsite.
• No bedside lamps — lights could only be turned off at the main switch.
• The Wi-Fi did not work despite being advertised (photo attached).
• There was no television — this should be clearly stated, not left open to assumption.
• No place to hang wet towels.
• The shower had a high step (approx. 12 inches), making it completely unsuitable for my elderly mother, who was unable to use it.
• A shower safety grab handle was detached and lying on the floor.
• The property’s postcode was misleading and did not reflect its actual location (photo attached).
• No standard drinking glasses were available — only wine glasses.
• No facilities for drying wetsuits or swimwear.
• Our pitch was located next to a very noisy children’s football area, with constant noise throughout the day.
• No welcome pack or information about on-site facilities — we only discovered the shop as we were leaving.
