A beautiful little lodge just right for a couple and a dog.

So peaceful and relaxing Mary & Steve were so welcoming and friendly with loads of local knowledge of pubs and places to visit also a comprehensive manual in the lodge with everything you need to know all in all we absolutely loved it here

The property was impeccably clean and the views were simply stunning—such a beautiful and peaceful place to relax and unwind. It’s perfect for dog owners too, with plenty of lovely fields right on the doorstep for long, enjoyable walks. The hot tub was amazing and really made the stay extra special—such a treat - Lovely wood burning smell and peaceful. The owners were incredibly welcoming and personable, making us feel at home straight away. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would highly recommend it!

Mary was a fabulous host. The cabin has everything you need. Very warm on a cold day. And the hot tub was relaxing. Amazing place to stay.

From start to finish this was a lovely place to spend the first week of 2026.

The hosts were very kind and helpful. The accommodation was warm and cosy even in freezing conditions. It was very well equipped so you can eat out or eat in by the fire. Raby Castle and Force Falls waterfall are well worth a visit.

The most wonderful cabin, fab hot tub ,so beautiful inside and so clean, in a beautiful place and wonderful owners, thank u so much .

We had a wonderful time staying in Fox’s Den.

We loved the accommodation, which had everything we needed. The facilities were excellent (the good quality air fryer made cooking meals easy, along with a well equipped kitchen). The accommodation was spotless. The weather was very cold on arrival, but Fox’s Den was cozy and warm. The location was ideal, with a friendly host and plenty of walks and cycle routes on the door step. Raby Castle and grounds were fascinating and only a couple of miles up the road. We thoroughly enjoyed returning, setting up the hot tub and then soaking away the aches and pains from the day’s activities, whilst star gazing! We would certainly come back for another stay!

This was our second stay at Alwent Hall and it did not disappoint.

We were looking for complete peace and Alwent Hall delivered. Two years on the hut is still absolutely spotless. The huts are lovingly put together with a nod to the name of each hut, through the furnishings. Even the coat hangers have positive quotes on to start your day. Steve the owner kindly rang on the morning we were arriving to let us know we could arrive when we liked and greeted us on arrival to let us know the hot tub was ready and that there was the addition of an air fryer since our last visit. Our first stay was in Badgers Set (the furthest of the three huts) and this time we were in Fox’s Den (the middle one). We were a little worried we wouldn’t experience the same secluded feeling in this hut. However, the design of the landscaping around the huts ensures this is not the case and we honestly felt like we were the only people around. On our first visit, we were lucky enough to experience the resident owl flying over. Although we heard it this time, we didn’t see it. On the third night the sky was completely clear and we spent ages picking out the different constellations and were treated to a shooting star! During our stay we went an a 3 hour walk with our dog and the day after visited Raby Castle near by. There are plenty of pubs a short drive away, many dog friendly. Without doubt we will be back again!!!

Super host, very helpful and welcoming. We had a really comfortable stay, we were super warm and the hot tub was fabulous. Our party stayed in two of the lodges and we had a wonderfully relaxing time. The lodge was well appointed, super warm and cosy. Big thank you to Steven for looking after us.

I had a weekend away for my other half’s birthday and had a fantastic time.

The accommodation is lovely, Steven was nothing but accommodating and a gentleman. I would highly recommend staying here should you get a chance.

The lodges are lovely all you need,very clean and tidy we loved it.Steven & Mary are lovely hosts will help you with anything, never thought I would adapt to a log burner hot tub but did one main advantage you set the temperature.The lodges are in lovely farm surroundings never been to so clean farm area nipping clean & tidy lovely layout.So chilled out area,so peaceful,each lodge very private.We will be back.Ray N Lynda

Wow what an amazing place this is.

Mary and Steven are fantastic hosts, we got a phone call the night before our stay asking approximately what time we would arrive and would we like the hot tub ready, which we gladly accepted. The foxes den is situated on a working farm, when we arrived i couldn’t believe how immaculate the whole place was. Mary was waiting for us to show us round and as promised the hot tub was all ready. The accommodation was spotless with everything needed for our stay Hob, microwave and airfryer cooking utensils etc coffee tea sugar even foil and cling film! added little extra touches like prosecco chilling in fridge and luxury cookies and blankets for our two dogs really made this place that little bit extra special. Mary recommended we visit Raby castle, which was beautiful the stags and deer are an amazing sight walking around freely, we also visited high force which is one our favourite place and only about 20 mins drive in car and walked from Barnard Castle to egglestone abbey along the river which was so lovely. We loved our stay as did our two dogs and for once me and the hubby truly relaxed (we are now buying a hot tub we loved it so much and it was so easy to use) we will definately be back very soon.

The foxes den was the perfect place to get away from it all!

The cabin was bigger than we expected with wonderful hosts. It was lovely and warm when we arrived, clean and had all the amenities we needed..not to mention the wonderful hot tub under the stars! ..it’s perfectly located, surrounded by lush countryside, wildlife and beautiful views..we could’ve stayed there forever! Loved the animals too!

From the first greeting by the owner to my departure this was a wonderful break.

It had everything I needed. Add to this the peace and quiet, togther with clear night skies and it was very special.

Very nice lodge in good location for exploring many places of interest.

The owners of this property are lovely- they called us prior to staying asking if we would like the hot tub ready for arrival.

When we arrived they were there ready to greet us, showed us how to work the hot tub and let us know about the best areas to visit (recommend Bernards castle). The property was very clean and cosy, it also had a lovely view out onto the fields. We will definitely be staying again, thank you for such a lovely stay!

Our 2nd visit didn’t disappoint, lovely location and lovely warm welcome again, there will definitely be a 3rd visit.

If you are looking for a relaxing break the lodges are a must, they have all the essentials and really comfortable, not forgetting the hot tub of course and listening to the owls on an evening….just sotranquil. See you again soon.

We really had the most wonderful week staying in foxes den.

3 cabins on a farm beautiful situated for privacy, peace and quiet. Warm and kind hosts who meet you on arrival and even phoned earlier in the day to ask if we wanted the hot tub warmed up. The cleanest holiday let I think we've ever stayed in!

A fantastic cabin for a very relaxing weekend.

Foxes Den is a bit like the Tardis, bigger on the inside than it looks. Hot tub was filled and ready for us on arrival by the owner who was very welcoming and told us everything we needed to know about the cabin and the area Highly recommended

My dog and I had a lovely stay in Foxes Den.

We were warmly greeted by Mary, who led us to the cabin and showed us around. We loved it instantly. It had everything we needed, spotlessly clean, cosy and homely. I could happily make it my second home. My dog was very happy roaming around outside as I sat on the veranda with a cuppa enjoying the peace and tranquility. I would definitely recommend it.

We had a very warm welcome and explanation of the properties facilities.

Steven went out of his way to make it a brilliant short break, helping us with local walks and places to visit. Lots of near by walks for the dogs who also loved the site. Would definitely come back.

We stayed at Foxes Den Cabin for a birthday getaway, and it was the perfect slice of countryside heaven.

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed not just by the lovely owners, but also by the friendliest little sheep! The cabin was spotless, modern, and full of beautiful little touches that made it feel so homely. We especially loved the secluded porch and the hot tub, ideal for unwinding in peace. Everything about our stay was cosy, relaxing, and thoughtfully done. A true hidden gem we can’t wait to return to.

We loved our stay at Foxes Den - the lodge itself is very high end with everything you need for an easy stay and it felt surprisingly big!

We loved the log fired hot tub and the gas fired burner indoors…all very atmospheric and easy to use. The farm itself is immaculate with easy parking and beautiful walks from your front door. It is also a great part of England to explore both in terms of history with places like Barnard and Raby Castle and the Bowes Museum and with walks like Low Force in Teesdale. Thank you to our great hosts Steven and Mary. We highly recommend it and will be back for sure!

We absolutely loved our stay, the foxes den was immaculate and had everything we needed.

Mary couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. I've already recommended this accommodation to my friends and family! It's in the perfect location with lots nearby to explore, and the Den was perfect to come back to, to relax in. We could have easily stayed for the week!

We spent a weekend here a couple of weeks ago and was even better than it looks!

So peaceful with lots of lovely walks and the added bonus of the hot tub.. everything was thought of by the owners including blankets and towels for our doggy! Will definitely be back and for longer next time

We were welcomed by Mary who showed us around and had put out a special bag for our dog with blankets, towels, bowls and few other bits. This made him feel welcome as loved one of the little blankets. The hot tub was great to relax in and was so peaceful and quiet. Even though you’re in the middle of nowhere giving you the peace and quiet it wasn’t very far to get to some nice places around. Will definitely be back.

We had an absolutely amazing time at Foxes Den!

Both Mary and Stephen were incredibly accommodating and friendly, with lots of knowledge of the local area. The cabin was clean and the hot tub was ready on arrival, which meant we could get straight to relaxing! The cabin was a perfect stay for our two dogs, and a goody bag was even provided with blankets for them to use during their stay. We had so many great adventures and already want to come back to Foxes Den again (and stay for even longer)

Lovely property, a very private and relaxing getaway.

Cabin was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Loved chilling out in the hot tub and opening the door to the scenery. Owners were very helpful and accommodating. A really nice area with shops and restaurants a short drive away. An enjoyable short break.

What a beautiful place.

The Foxes Den is so classy and well thought out. Very cosy, very comfortable with everything you need. The shower was powerful and refreshing, huge comfortable bed. Extra large sofa is soooooo welcoming. Hot tub on demand and the owners were so nice! Gorgeous views and so many beautiful places to visit. The local church was not only interesting but very friendly. I simply cannot wait to go back. My puppy loved it too. 25 billion stars out of 10 from us. Stop thinking about it, just go!

Fox's den is absolutely perfect!

Mary and Stephen are such lovely hosts and nothing is too much trouble. The lodge is so homely and has everything you need and more. The hot tub is great and although wood fired we had no problems at all keeping it warm it was super easy to maintain. The area is absolutely beautiful around the lodges and so peaceful exactly what you want and need on a trip away to get away from everything! Would highly recommend and we'll definitely be back!

Can highly recommend this property.

On arrival Steven went through all of the facilities on offer. The lodge was spotlessly clean and included lots of nice touches like Prosecco milk coffee tea salt pepper plus lots of other goodies enough to get you started. You have a fridge tv hob microwave and a multi purpose grill. The bathroom is to die for best shower i have ever been in could have stayed in it all day sat on a chair. To top it all off a lovely hot tub outside which was lovely armed with a drink. Staindrop is a short drive away which houses a Post Office Spar and a lovely Cafe with excellent food. All in all a fantastic chill out break which we all enjoyed including the dogs. We will be back if the owners will have us.

We had a lovely relaxing time, everything we needed was there, everything was thought of, even a couple of bottles of bubbly for our arrival.

The owner Steven was there to greet us on our arrival showing us around the lodge, and telling us about the local area, where's nice to eat etc. We will definitely be back again, we didn't want to leave.

Foxes den was last minute find and didn’t disappoint. The cabin was pristine, tasteful theme with some nice touches. The hot tub was equally clean and hot on arrival with plenty of wood provided. The setting was tranquil, which was perfect. Wish we could have stayed longer. Close proximity to Barnard Castle, and other local attractions. Steven was so hospitable prior and during our stay. Would definitely return and certainly recommend.

My partner and I recently visited Fox’s Den and were blown away.

The lodge itself exceeded all expectations and a few personal touches including a doggy bag, some bubbly, biscuits and a money off voucher for the local restaurant were greatly appreciated. It is quiet and enclosed with beautiful views. It was perfect for our dog who had a fantastic time and enjoyed lots of lovely walks around the area. The hot tub was easy enough to use and the host Steven contacted us in the morning of arrival to ask if we would like the hot tub ready for us. We loved it that much that we are already looking to go back in the heart of the summer. Thank you for a great stay at Foxy’s Den Steven.

I contacted the owner to see if we could access the lodge earlier and we were able to access st 1,pm instead of 3 which was a real bonus.

On arrival Stephen met us and explained everything. The lodge was absolutely perfect, really clean and comfy and the little treats and bottles of bubbly were really appreciated. Hot tub really simple to operate and we had a lovely relaxing time. Plenty to see and do in the local area which added to the experience. Already recommended the property to family and friends.

If I could score higher for this property and the owners I would.

Our last visit was our third, and will not he our last. The cabin is always clean and tidy,hosts are friendly and our dogs LOVE the area. As soon as we pull up, our dogs know exactly where we are and where we are staying!

We went for a week as it was my birthday.

Greeted by owner Steve on arrival, very pleasant ,he showed us how to light the hot tub and how to work fire, very cherriey . Hot tub was lit and ready for us on arrival which was great. Cabin was amazing ,very clean and comfortable, bag with 2 dog blankets in and 2 dog bowls to use and doggy bags which was nice touch, also very very nice biscuits, prosecco and cream cakes which we kept for my birthday treat.bed was a little hard for me but that's just me. Lovely space for our two dogs nice walks by river, had very large field to themselves. Debby and Rachel's fish shop up the lane was gorgeous,lovely lady, we went to Raby castle for Wallis plenty of dears to see. Lovely dog walks around and markets to look at. Honesty box at farm with home made honey again gorgeous tasting. We talked to Steve about his rare sheep .had a fantastic time ,extremely peaceful place to chill out. No complaints what so ever.thank you Steve for making our stay a pleasure x

Blown away by the whole stay, from the cabin being even better than in the photos, to the location, the welcome and hospitality from Stephen & Mary, access to the fields and woods with the dog, and of course the wood fired hot tub.

We had a warm welcome and were shown around and informed how to use the fire and hot tub as soon as we arrived. The surrounding area was amazing and we loved going for walks after a day out, which was literally at the foot of our cabin! Would highly recommend a stay here for a relaxing getaway! A great few days staying on a working farm.

Everything we needed was there and the hosts were wonderful. Our two dogs loved the place, with plenty of walks nearby and plenty of space inside for them to rest. Would definitely visit again!

This was our second stay at Foxes Den.

It's the perfect place to disconnect from a busy life. Lots of lovely places to visit, perfect location. To say the cabin in on a working farm, you would never know, it's so peaceful. The cabin was presented clean and tidy, hot tub was prepared for our arrival. Perfect escape for a break away. Will be coming again. ❤️

We loved our stay again at 'The Foxes Den' a complete switch off from a busy life.

The local scenery and places to visit are breath-taking. The hot tub is a real bonus each day to relax and unwind. The hosts Steve & Mary ensure that you want for nothing when checking in with lovely little touches of cream cakes, milk, tea and coffee. We visited the Brownlow Arms for a delicious meal and used a £5 voucher that was left in the lodge for us to use. We will booking again for next year for our escape from our busy working lives.

What can we say about this place.

... .if you want a slice of heaven on earth this is the place for you!! Was the perfect place to disconnect from the world and relax. We received a curtesy call on the day of arrival to see if we would like the hot tub setting up for when we arrived, whcih was great. We were welcomed by Steven, such a lovely warm welcome. We were showed around the cabin and informed how to use the fire and the hot tub and local information. The cabin was very well presented, so clean and tidy and very well stocked with items such as plates, bowels, bin bags, towels, milk, 'George Foreman' grill. Even our dogs got a little bag with blankets and bowels.. such a lovely touch. Great heating system, and the fire was phenomenal! My husband and myself can not recommend this place enough. The local towns are fantastic for sight seeing, great historical sights and fantastic dog walks and nature trails. Steven and Mary were so welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. We loved it so much we booked to revisit the second we arrived home.

Absolutely amazing stay - A little gem

Wonderful Winter Weekend Husband and I booked a short break, we wanted somewhere relaxing with walks for the dogs.

Well, what a find! Absolutely superb lodge situated on a beautiful estate. We arrived late on the Thursday and the owner kindly put the heating on for us for our arrival, which was greatly appreciated after a long journey. A lovely little treat bag was waiting for the dogs to use during our stay and a welcome tipple for us too! Very thoughtful! Kitchen was fully stocked with utensils for our stay. Lodge was very clean, tidy, organised, bathroom and kitchen looked brand new, large shower, and bed very comfortable. What more could you ask for. The lodge was fully insulated, had central heating and a lovely gas burner, you are not going cold staying here! Finally the Wood fired Hot Tub! Wow! Again the owner kindly talked us through how to use it and off we went. Really easy to use and just made our evenings after long walks even more relaxing! Beautiful views and wonderful villages, pubs and river walks all around you. Can’t wait to see what it’d be like in the summer! One tiny comment, Wi-Fi didn’t work very well in the lodge, however when you want to escape for the weekend, is that really a bad thing! Absolutely wonderful, would stay again!

We had a lovely weekend and are looking to book in for next year.

Gorgeous cottage very well equipped and more than lived up to, even surpassing the sparkly photos.

Lovely setting and very well thought out set up of the site as a whole. Possibly need a slightly bigger freezer compartment but this in no way impeded our stay. Friendly and welcoming, can't recommend highly enough.

A great little get away.

We stayed for a long weekend with our dog and had a lovely time. The cabin was cosy and we enjoyed taking advantage of the hot tub and log burner every night. A shout out to the owners for being so friendly and accommodating. Will recommend for anyone in need of a little retreat

Absolutely amazing me, my partner and dog had an amazing time.

LOVED THE HOT TUB. Got a lovely dog bag with bowls, a blanket and poo bags. Perfect for a few days away very quiet (apart from some geese but didn't bother us) very private will definitely come back again.

We had a great week in this fantastic log cabin.

The cabin is very comfortable & more spacious than the pictures suggest. The cabin has been finished to a very high level & the siting of the three cabins & hot tub are spot on giving privacy to everyone. Many places to visit nearby, Barnard Castle being our favourite. A little longer drive took us to Beamish Museum, Hawes, Durham & Richmond. And finally, a big thank you to Kevin who was in charge whilst the owner also on hols did a brilliant job making sure we were all happy.

The cabin was lovely place to stay, very clean, comfortable which we found to be a very relaxing stay.

The weather was perfect. The owner was very accommodating, friendly, I would definitely consider staying again. My only complaints would be small things really, like extra bin bags and toilet roll for longer stays. As there wasn't any air-conditioning from my knowledge, a fan would have been nice in a wooden cabin on hot evenings as we couldn't open the windows at night because of the fly's getting in, so got very warm at night. Would have also been nice to have some sort of fly repellent because they got a little annoying. I'm aware we're on a farm so I understand, however maybe a mesh cover over the windows or one of those insect zapppers or something. Other than that really enjoyed the stay. Thank you.

Everything ready including hot tub! Little treats also for us and out little dog. Would of liked an oven as we arrived late and had bought a ready meal but not for a microwave. Haha! Wasn’t really a problem though. All in all a brilliant lodge in beautiful surroundings!! Would definitely return!

Had a 4 night last minute stay at Foxes Den.

Steven and Mary were exceptional hosts. The holiday lodge was beautifully arranged to suit everyone’s needs. There was everything you needed for your stay. The hot tub was amazing and Steve prepared this everyday for our return after a day out. Lots to do and see in the surrounding area. We will definitely return.

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at this beautiful lodge with a wood burning hot tub.

A few days away gave us a feast for the eyes with the amazing countryside views. Castles and a waterfall all within a short drive. Lovely quaint villages with lovely tea rooms. Excellent information pack in the lodge gave us all details about the local places to visit and ‘The Brownlow Arms’ gave us a delicious quality meal on our last evening. We will certainly be back within the year for another break away and would without hesitation recommend this to all family and friends. If you want to escape all the stress of travelling abroad this is the place to visit, switch off from city living and enjoy he peace and sounds of the area. Thank you! Teresa and Jon

The logcabin and hottub was beautiful scenery was stunning, plenty of walks, you was a short drive to high falls - beautiful walk and lovely food in the hotel - a 5 min drive to raby castle - again grounds are beautiful to walk round and the castle is very interesting.

We also went into barnard castle and had a walk along the river and then ack through the woods - a beautiful 5 days - would recommend this stay - hoping to return in the winter

The cabin was beautifully presented, comfortable and well equipped.

The owner was really friendly and helpful.

We had the best time and Steven made us feel at ease he was the most helpful and showed us his gorgeous sheep!

It was the perfect place for us to relax before we headed home ourselves to start lambing our own sheep! Thankyou for the most gorgeous place to stay! 10/10 recommend!!! We’ve already deiced we would like to go back! Thankyou so much!

Had the most perfect weekend away.

The lodge itself has everything you need, was warm, clean and cosy. Stephen and Mary were great hosts, had the hot tub ready for arrival and made sure we knew what we needed to know. Stephen also kindly dropped up off at a local pub and picked us up after missing the last bus, we felt very welcome. The area was great for walks also, there was nothing to fault, we will most definitely be returning, Thanks for a lovely weekend.

Excellent location for a relaxing break.

Very welcoming and helpful owner. Very good information pack on local amenities. Hot tub really nice, easy to manage. Perfect location for chilled few days and in easy travelling distance for local towns and attractions eg High Force Waterfall, Barnard Castle, Staindrop & Raby Castle and Teesdale Cheesemakers & Cafe to name just a few. Really cosy place to stay and feel at home.

Steven was an excellent host from start to finish.

When we arrived he greeted us and showed us to the property, the property was fantastic, very clean and cosy, just what we wanted for a few days away. Steven set up the fire burning hot tub for us and gave us a demonstration for how to do it ourselves, although he was always on hand if we needed any help! The property is modern and has everything you need! It’s close to a lot of little villages which are great to explore and only a short drive to other towns and villages too, as well as lots of great dog walks in the area! We’ve had the best stay at Foxes Den and we will definitely be returning!

It was perfect place.

Peaceful, warm and with hot tub. The cabin was clean. The toilet is amazing. The bed and sofa is very comfortable. The attention is unbelievable. Steven is really kind, attentive and friendly. In addition you have a lot information about what you can do around.

Fantastic property.

Excellent attention from the owner who lit the hot tub prior to our arrival and relit it several times when during our stay.The cabin itself was spotless and furnished to a high standard The farmland was excellent for walking with our puppy Doberman.The only negative was the mattress which was a little bit hard for us personally

beautiful scenery, dog friendly, peaceful, not too far from civilisation but far enough to feel off grid so to speak. The owners are lovely and nothing is too much trouble. Bith other lodges had people in during our stay but we never heard a thing from either side! Would definitely recommend this little gem for anyone looking for a retreat!

Our stay at this property was amazing .

Steve the host was very helpful ,he lit the hot tub before we arrived so it was ready for us to relax in after our drive from Essex . Our dog loved his long walks across the many fields that surround the 3 properties. We where welcomed with a bottle of fizz and essentials for our dog . The lodge was very clean and tidy . We would definitely recommend this to our family and friends and we will definitely be returning to Foxes Den in the very near future . Thank you Steve for all your helpful information and kindness. We have just returned from our relaxing break at this beautiful lodge.

When we arrived we were greeted by the owner Steve who showed us around and offered to get the log fuelled hot tub going whilst we went out, we also took our two dogs who were made to feel very welcome and it was brilliant to be able to let them run off the lead in the fenced field directly opposite the lodge! Foxes Den is compact and well equipped, with lounge area, dining area and neat kitchen, sleeping area with king size bed and bathroom with double shower, all brand new at the time of our stay. The dining table folded down to make room for our dog pen where our dogs stayed comfortably when they were resting after their long walks! WiFi was a great bonus as there was no phone signal and it meant we could still contact our teenagers at home! I have already told all my friends and family about these lovely hideaways and we can not wait to return! Thank you Steve and co. Faultless!

We stayed at Foxes Den for Christmas with our dog And could not have enjoyed our stay more!

The hot tub had been lit for our arrival with gifts and throws provided for us and the dog. The owner Stephen went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed including a bag of gifts left at the gate on Christmas Day ! Amazing stay beautiful walks will definitely book to return.

From the moment we arrived Steve was available to run us through how everything works.

All weekend nothing was to much trouble, the accommodation was exemplary and was very well equipped. Will definitely recommend and re book.
