    “We have just returned home after a 5 night stay and believe me, we did NOT want to leave!”

    From before we arrived, the lovely host Mary letting us know we could arrive early and setting up the hot tub ready for our arrival... The helpful insight when we arrived about places to go and must sees, lots of helpful information about the lodge which was lovely!!.. little bubbly and biscuits fur ys, milk and lots of tea coffee sugar sachets, lots of brochures, cards and games to play and so so the little things that so do many other places we have stayed did not accommodate for.. washing up ...

The helpful insight when we arrived about places to go and must sees, lots of helpful information about the lodge which was lovely!!.. little bubbly and biscuits fur ys, milk and lots of tea coffee sugar sachets, lots of brochures, cards and games to play and so so the little things that so do many other places we have stayed did not accommodate for.. washing up liquid, tea towels, kitchen roll, toilet roll, cleaning spray, inserts for the air fryer too are but a few, just very thoughtful and helpful too.. a doggy bag with bowls and extra dog blankets and Mary had even put a fan in which was great, though the lodge is well insolated, again just so thoughtful with the extremely hot weather we have been having, a Clothes airer on the side of the lodge, ample kitchen appliances and pots pans glasses etc... loads and loads of wood for the hot tub.. you can even buy disposable BBQs there which we did twice!!!.. along with all this, the scenery and peace is beyond words, the lodge was so well thought out and beautiful plus absolutely spotless . Lots of lovely walks and our dog loved it too... I hope you will have us again as we cannot wait to return, lovely people, lodge and surroundings, we truly loved it!!!! Thank you for having us, Bernie, ken and Milo.

Alwent Lodges

Alwent Lodges is a group of three wonderful, single-storey lodges settled in the stunning countryside, on a working farm with an abundance of wildlife including otters, kingfishers, deer, and buzzards on the grounds of Alwent Hall. Each with a private veranda and garden furniture and an alluring hot tub within their own private outdoor space, this superb group of lodges offer a romantic escape. These lovely lodges are within easy reach, drive or walk, of historic sites, including Raby Castle, (that can be seen from the lodges) Park and Gardens, there is a lovely gift shop and café, along with many events held throughout the year including outdoor cinema and theatre and seasonal markets amongst others. Also close by you will find Piercebridge Roman Bridge and Fort and Auckland Castle. Alwent Lodges rest within easy reach of the bustling market town of Barnard Castle, home to The Bowes Museum and several historic houses and stunning architecture, as well as an array of independent shops and restaurants many of which are dog-friendly. A further short drive will take you to Egglestone Abbey to view the mysterious ruins. There are plenty of walking opportunities to enjoy with many footpaths including the Teesdale Way, which can take you to the magnificent High and Low Force waterfalls, where you can also grab a bite or a drink at the High Force Hotel which is dog-friendly. Alwent Hall also offers one mile of exclusive fishing rights for those guests who fancy a spot of fishing. STAINDROP

Barnard Castle 5 miles; Durham 20 miles.

The pretty Teesdale village of Staindrop has always been closely associated with the fortunes of nearby Raby Castle and its owners. The Castle (open to the public) is one of the grandest in England. Enlarged and beautified over the centuries, the medieval heart remains and a walled garden and 200-acre deer park add to the splendour. Staindrop has a well-stocked general store, a pub and a coffee shop, set around the village green. The popular market town of Barnard Castle is 5 miles away, with its castle, the Bowes Museum, plus of course its wide range of shops and tea rooms. Walkers will enjoy the many walks around Teesdale.
