“We stayed in this property for 6 weeks for work purposes, and unfortunately it was one of the worst stays I have experienced.”

The caravan was very cold throughout the stay. We had the heating on, and there was also an electric fire which we used occasionally to warm up, as I had a 2‑year‑old child with me. After a few days, I began receiving texts, emails and phone calls saying we were using too much electricity. We reduced our usage and only used the electric fire when absolutely necessary. I was later advised that someone would be coming out to check the carbon monoxide detectors, which I feel should have been tested before the property was rented out. I agreed to a date and time, but the person arrived two hours early and also disconnected the electric fire. As a result, we had to rely more on the heating, as the caravan never stayed warm, and I again received messages about electricity usage. I paid a significant amount for this stay, so it was disappointing to feel that we could not heat the property properly. The caravan was not clean on arrival. There were stains on the bedding, which I washed myself before we could use them. There were marks around the bath, and the kitchen utensils, plates and cups were dirty and had to be washed before use. We spent a day cleaning before we could properly begin our stay. Cleaners came once to offer fresh towels and bedding, but based on what we received originally, I declined and continued washing everything myself. I have now received an email stating that I need to pay for extra electricity, cleaning, and damage to the vinyl. We left the property cleaner than we found it. Electricity was included, and we did not cause any damage. I took photos on departure, and there was no damage visible. It was disappointing to be charged premium prices for a property that was cold on arrival and not properly cleaned.

Thank you for your comments, you originally booked for four weeks and then a few weeks into your stay then rebooked for a further two weeks, so we are surpised to hear you didn't enjoy the property considering you rebooked it. We give out two contact numbers to guests pre arrival and Sykes also has a varierty of communication avenues, at no point during your six weeks did you mention any concerns regarding property standards. The property had a full and through changeover as is our standard and we also take safety very seriously, the property has a monthly carbon monoxide alarm check which was booked in before you booked your second stay and we hope you can appreciate that this is done for guest safety. We do have the hive heating set to a very reasonable 21 degrees throughout a guest stay from 8am to 10pm then this goes to 14 degrees overnight, we and Sykes did try to contact you multiple times during your stay to discuss the heating as we noticed it was set incredibly high to an unusual 30 degrees on a 6 hour boost through the night but regrettably you were not amenable to discussing anything with us or with Sykes despite mulitple contacts to you from ourselved and Sykes tried calling you but could not reach you so they sent you an email asking you to call them to discuss the heaitng. We will add a note to the advert moving forward that guests need to contact us to have heating adjusted. We did advise that that we would turn the electric fire off and you advised this would not be an issue with you as you did acknowledge that communication and advsied that you didn't use it. We take meter readings prior to arrival and after departure and of course we welcome reasonable usage of heating units as can be seen by the temperature we have the heating pre set to, we have provided meter readings to Sykes Cottages regarding your stay and extra usage and they are contacting you directly regarding this along with communications to you regarding an issue we discovered with the kitchen lino after your departure.
