Dotty's Sunshine Cottage

Dottys cottage was perfect for our holiday,it was clean had lovely decor &furnishings.

The only thing I can say it needed was a step out on to the patio from the door to make access easier.We hope to return at a later date .Its situated in a lovely quiet area of the bay & a lovely lawned area to the back of the property which was great for our dog .All in All a we had a fantastic time x

The cottage was lovely and clean on arrival and had everything we could need.

It’s beautifully decorated and we loved all the seaside themed decor. Very comfortable home from home. Can’t wait to stay again.

Dotties generally very good.

Kitchen was well equipt. Id recommend an airfryer and a none stock frying pan. Living area very comfy. Upstairs however needs storage in bathroom for toiletries. Also no where for a lady to get ready/ do hair etc. Could do with mirror relocating where can sit on bed to dry hair. Or replace the small drawers with a small dressing table. As it was very difficult. No lighting for makeup etc. Nice and clean but could do with a repaint there were handprints on ceilings etc

Had a great time although just a few issues with cleanliness on our arrival i.

e baking trays, cutlery, cups etc. Definitely feel like the property could do with a general update.

Our stay at Dottys sunshine cottage was great, a lovely, cosy, welcoming place.

Everything was as described the owner was easy to contact and happy to help. As I have stated before ( we have used the bay at Filey for a number of years staying in different cottages ) the standard of cleaning is really poor, the owners and users ( us ) of these cottages and apartments deserve better much much better, it is such a shame.

We had a lovely time at Dottys and found it very comfortable with everything you need for a week away.

Janet the owner had thought of everything and provided good information about the surrounding area and getting out and about. We booked to get away from the noise of fireworks as our two dogs are petrified and it did the trick , we heard nothing all week ! You can use the facilities on site with the Leisure pass which includes the gym , pool and sauna . I took advantage of that and went swimming daily . The beach is fabulous and only a 10 minute walk from the cottage . Nice touch as well was the welcome pack !

, comfy settees and beds. Welcome pack a nice touch. We noticed the patio windows had finger marks all over so obviously hadn't been cleaned and the bath seal was mildewed in places. There were cobwebs in the bedrooms. The step from the patio door was too deep to step down for my father and child. Maybe another step could be fitted. Our stay was enjoyable except for the weather. A return visit next year is on the cards. Thank you to the property owner who was excellent with communications and information about the area.

Well equipped and we'll decorated, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. In the interest of balance I will point out the things which were problems for us. 1. The step down to the patio was quite a large step and for people like us who are older and not as fit as we used to be was a problem. 2.For the reasons above the climb in and out of the bath was a problem. We are used to a walk in shower. 3. The lack of a freezer was a problem for me, as we like to cook an evening meal every day. These are personal to us and a younger , more active couple who eat out wouldn't even notice them, but as someone who spends a lot of time reading reviews before booking I value an honest teview. Having said that, we have holidayed at the Bay several times and this is one of the nicest properties we have stayed in.

Access to beautiful beach within easy walk. Would return and have already recommended to friends and family. Filey and other attractions within short drive suggest Bempton Cliffs and Sewerby Hall for days out.

We really liked the cottage.

It was clean and equipped with everything you need for a holiday. Communication with the owner via email was always excellent. We had two wonderful weeks at Dotty's Sunshine Cottage. The location is excellent and very quiet. The village-like character of the development was lovely. The beach is only a 15-minute walk away. We would definitely book the cottage again if we return to Filey.

One of the big pluses was the living area which has two smart-looking and comfortable sofas.

There was enough crockery and cutlery for a small army so we were able to fill the dishwasher and use it without feeling guilty. The property was clean in most of the areas which mattered though the bath could have done with a good scrub. My friend used one of the single beds which she found a bit creaky but the double was very comfortable (and quiet!). The heating was easy to operate and we were cosy and comfortable with everything needed for a very pleasant break. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Dotty’s Sunshine Cottage was great, in fact we liked it so much we have already rebooked for next year.

Plenty of room for 4 adults; it was well equipped, clean and comfortable. I loved the shower! The owner could not have been more helpful. Definitely worth a visit.

When we entered the house there was a very strong smell of bogs could have done with some air freshener spraying round the sofas were uncomfortable the beds were uncomfortable we put up with it for 3 nights not having hardly any sleep on Tuesday we came home which worked very expensive as we paid for7 nights we rang the owner hoping for some money refunding she said nobody else had complained and didn’t seem interested

The swimming pool was not working.

On Sunday there was an extra activity to replace the pool (football) but not the rest of the week. We were given access to a pool at another facility but there were no additional activities locally even though it was in school holiday time. Regarding the property it would help if the house number was on the booking details, we had to ask in the office to find it.

Fabulous and comfortable stay.

Everything we needed was there. Facilities were excellent and welcome pack was a nice touch and had loads of fab stuff in there, even for the dogs. Would absolutely stay there again was an amazing getaway.

Lovely place to stay, accommodation well laid out.

Didn’t realise it was a Holiday Park (Ex Butlins) when I booked. The accommodation was very good. Sofas need addressing as reported in previous feedbacks, but didn’t ruin stay. The Holiday Park had a Pub (Drinks not cheap) Restaurant (Food OK) with Shop (items not cheap but convenient) Gym, Swimming Pool, Amusement Arcade & Tennis Courts. Local Shops 1-3 miles away. Pub outside Holiday Park is about 30 minutes walking distance & very friendly, Menu very good & friendly atmosphere. Locations we visited nearby, Filey (3 miles), Scarborough (8), Robin Hood Bay (25) & Whitby (28). These places worth visiting as well as other places. Although we didn’t have the best of weather, Myself, Wife & Dog all had a good time. Overall I would recommend this place, whether ‘Dotties’ or any of the other properties. It’s a pity the Pub & Shop prices are high & Sofas not so comfortable, but these have not stopped us recommending this accommodation for staying.

The property was very clean with pleasing decor.

The windows are beginning to show their age and are very hard to open and close. I feel we were mislead as to how far the cottage was with regards to both Filey and the local beach. My husband has heart problems and certainly couldn't make the beach. I was disappointed that the pool was suffering technical problems and only achieved one swim. However we made the best of the holiday.

The cottage is a lovely place to stay.

The estate is well maintained also Good base to travel to many interesting villages Easy reach of beach Will recommend cottage to family and friends.

Accommodation was ok but the couches in living room were very uncomfortable you felt like you were sitting on the floor.

The vacuum cleaner was not working as the filters were totally blocked and we had to clean them to get it to work. But apart from these 2 issues everything was ok.

Dotty’s Cottage was a real home from home.

Great communication from the owner and a fab welcome pack for us and our dog. A great location for dog walks onto the beach and a base for exploring further afield. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.

We had a lovely stay and have even been looking at booking again but it's very popular!

The cottage had everything to make it a comfortable stay. A little welcome box with treats, teas and coffee in was useful. The rain shower was absolutely delightful! We walked down to the beach one morning which was lovely. We also went swimming on site when it rained one day. The only thing would be if there could be spare toilet roll/bin bags, we were very close to running out! Thanks again ☺️

Beautiful little cottage with everything you could need while you’re away.

Filey is lovely, and the beach is beaut. Its a 5 minute walk to the beach , longer up the hill on the way back! Would definitely recommend, thank you for having us

This was our second stay at Dotty’s and once again we enjoyed our stay.

It’s a great location for getting out and about either by car or bus, as stop right outside entrance. Excellent communication with Janet. We didn’t find the bed as comfy this visit, a nice thick mattress topper would probably make it really comfortable (obviously mattresses are tricky all due to personal taste) We did think the sofa could have done with a good vacuum (including underneath!!) But apart from those small things, we had another great stay, lots of walks along the beaches, which our little dog absolutely loved

Wonderful break for a month at Dottys Sunshine Cottage.

It was warm, cosy and the dogs settled in straight away. I would recommend Dottys highly and couldn’t really fault it.

We stayed at Dotty's Cottage in December for one week.

We have stayed at The Bay quite a few times, mostly on our own, sometimes with family. The cottage was well furnished, the kitchen was spacious and well stocked. The beds were comfortable and the bedroom had ample storage.We travelled to Scarborough and Filey often, and also York to enjoy the Christmas stalls. We have no hesitation in staying at Dotty's Sunshine Cottage again. We have recommended it to friends and family

First class accommodation and location.

Ideal for a family holiday and pet friendly. Made full use of the leisure pass included in the holiday price by going to the 25 m swimming pool, sauna and steam room every day.

The cottage was great.

Everything you needed was in the cottage, comfortable, clean. But the step going out to the patio area was a bit high it needs a second step.

A very nice property in a great location central to Whitby, Scarborough, Bridlington and Flamingo Land.

Lovely furnishing throughout, although wall clock did not work. Creaking stairs and wobbly dining table could be improved. Also one of the twin single beds had a loose slat. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend staying here

The property is as described We have visited The Bay many times previously although this was the first time in Dotty's Cottage Good base for exploring the East Coast Dog friendly Clean bedding and bathroom Fantastic shower !

We had a power cut the first night which obviously the owner could do nothing about but she did message and keep in touch We felt the sofa / tables could have been cleaner. The sofa needs a good vacuum and the table hadn't been wiped down cleanly But other than these minor points ( oh and the weather was a bit unkind !) We had a lovely stay

We annoyed our stay the cottage was very clean and comfortable it is in a very nice location and would definitely recommend The Bay for all ages ,the only down side is the steep slope to get onto the beach which we were unable to do .

Lovely clean cottage on a well kept holiday village, with everything you need for a family of 4.

We left a foam mattress for the travel cot as there wasn't one.Within easy reach of Filey and Scarborough. Thank you Mrs Woodhead.

This I’m afraid is a beautiful Cottage seriously let down by lack of maintenance and TLC.

Several comments in the feed back book that obviously have not been read. To name but a few. No frying pan, just a griddle pan with a cracked handle making it dangerous to use. Door to dish washer twisted and hitting washing machine cupboard door. Plinth under both hanging off. Step from patio door to patio very high and needs an intermediate step. Stairs creaking like mad. At least 2 interior doors do not latch. No pole for opening and closing roof window in the bathroom.

Did smell strongly of dog when we arrived so may benefit from air freshener after each visit and stairs hadn't been hoovered down. Put a couple comments in visitors book as asked re kitchen plinth. Otherwise lovely place and really pleased we could take our cockerpoo Marley with us. Enjoyable stay and the beds were very comfy. Terribly hot..but that was the weather..nothing owner can do! Would recommend and visit again thankyou.

Hi, just had a week in Dotty's cottage, cleanliness not great especially around the cooker,hob, and utensils,tin opener broken, frying pan dirty,ring around the bath, dishwasher door and washer door both need attention,two sofa beds in lounge, arms are down to wood under fabric and springs are completely knackered, don't know if they're any good as beds, spent most of the week sat at the table or outside where some of the patio set is on its last legs, barbecue not usable, but great suntrap and good location, better than some we've stayed in, get these bit's sorted and cleaning more detailed and we'll return if that's ok, cheers Chris

Love The Bay at Filey, but this cottage was not suitable for us, our mobility not brilliant found the step at the back entrance too high, stairs not easy and very creaky, bed very comfy and the cottage well presented, cleaning in kitchen could be better, will not be visiting again.

This is our third time at The Bay and Dotty’s Cottage was the best property we have stayed in.

It’s deceivingly spaceful, when you come in the front there’s a spaceful entrance area which is great when you’ve been to the beach with buggy and bags. we liked the open plan kitchen as we have a 3 year old to keep an eye on, the outdoor space at the back is great and the bedrooms are very comfortable. A real home from home.

Generally very happy with the cottage and everything provided, however we had no aerial signal signal for the television for the majority of the holiday and despite calls to the owner and into reception where promises of it been sorted each day never materialised.

As we were advised the maintenance worker would need to have access to the property we were on alert not to be too far away it did impact a bit on the freedom of our holiday. Although the owner did apologise for the disruption it was a widespread problem on the site and beyond her control there was nothing from reception to update the situation onus seemed to be down to us to 'chase up'. As the site are aware of this problem as seems to be an issue it would have been nice to at least offer a radio.

The cottage was comfortable and clean.

Communication from owner was great, she made sure all our needs were met. The facilities at the Bay were good. We loved the meadow and lakes area. The beach is spectacular. 2nd time at the Bay loved our time there.

Modern, clean, well equiped cosy dog friendly cottage.

Small patio area gives great access to outdoors which was great for the kids to play with others nearby. 10/15 mins down to the beach with fabulous walks to Filey or towards Bempton. Site has a pub, cafe, shop, playground, amusements, pharmacy, leisure centre with bookable activities for kids. Overall can make a great holiday and as a base to explore East coast, Wolds and NYM.

Would definitely book again. The cottage is well equipped and has an homely feel as soon as you walk in. Janet the owner has done an amazing job making it one of the best we’ve stayed in on The Bay

Although we enjoyed our holiday, the cottage could do with some updating and we would like a quieter location, as being located on the main road it is quite noisy.

Not really any facilities on site,no shop and not much to do unless you want to spend all day on the beach (which was a steep hike) all houses are close together, so no privacy with people walking past your windows all the time,couldn't get into the restaurant as its always booked up weeks in advance,spent ages looking for this "special holiday" for my 60th but left disappointed, won't be going back

The house was perfect for our break away with our dog, couldn’t have wanted more.

We will definitely visit again.

Dottie’s is great value for money, very comfortable, and great facilities.

Lovely cottage within walking distance of beach.

Swimming pool on site as well as pub for food. All dog friendly.

The Bay is in a state of further development and has construction traffic using the main parade road.

It should be noted the period this is to be carried out and what community effects it has on anyone staying there. While the construction crew were washing down the roads water/silt was coming off the site at the evenings which means walking through it. Sometimes noisy during h Tver day due to construction traffic delivery’s

Very pleased with my stay at dotty's sunshine cottage ,as always the booking made clear and simple, Instructions easy to follow Dottys sunshine cottage was very welcoming (even biscuits for my dogs, lovely touch ) clean and cosy, Felt it very easy to relax, loved the proximity of the cottage, very quite and within easy reach of the beach Loved the fact that the cottage, holiday complex, in fact filey it self is very dog friendly, A perfect holiday will my dog.

The cottage was lacking in storage space, not enough places to put your things.

When we arrived we found the table and floor sticky and under the cusions and furniture all sorts of muck having not being cleaned by anyone for a good while. My wife got some cleaner from shop, we then had a good clean up.we could then relax and have a good holiday.

Cottage was in a really good location.

Really close to the beach, with some amazing walks. Cottage was nice inside, had everything we needed and no major issues - it could do with some maintenance work doing (the bathroom drain only opened about 1mm for example) but nothing worth complaining about. Only downside to the cottage was that there was no back garden - but this is mentioned on the listing, I just didn't expect it to be as bigger issue as it was, so I'd say if you have dogs, especially young ones, it might not be the best location for you as there are a lot of distractions there. All in all we'd go back!

Brilliant location and very comfortable facilities in the Cottage.

Despite the fact the weather on our first weekend was awful, horrendous winds, the cottage kept us cosy and busy.

There was a great selection of indoor games and plenty of books and cd’s to keep us entertained. The pub has been extended since we last stayed at the Bay so there was plenty of room for families with children and dogs. We had a great time on the beach once the weather cleared. Another great holiday at the Bay!

I’d consider the bay to be quite unique, like a new housing estate with pretty cottages, very clean, tidy area, modern, everything you need for families, dog friendly, ideally located for nearby seaside towns and attractions, beach isn’t a long walk and it’s clean and a lot quieter than the packed ones at the main resorts, our cottage was perfect for our family of 4, clean, bright, well equipped, overall we all thought it was much better than we were expecting, we weren’t disappointed with anything and it didn’t make us wish we’d gone abroad instead, if you want a great holiday in this country with your family, including the dog, then you can’t go wrong with this place, we’ll be back :)

This is the third time we have stayed on The Bay at Filey, however the first time we have booked via Sykes.

The whole process was simple and straightforward with regular updates before the actual holiday. As to Dotties Sunshine Cottage, although identical to the others we have booked, it was more comfortable and the location was perfect, especially for kids to play out safely and make new friends. I would recommend this cottage and will probably return with our granddaughter.

Dotty's Sunshine Cottage is far above accommodation that is rented.

It has the most comfortable settee's and bed we have ever slept in on holiday. Kept us refreshed to enjoy every day of our holiday. Molly our dog loved the view from the patio doors and the furry blanket provided

Had a lovely time at dottys sunshine cottage ,lovely walk to the beach ,bus stop outside the bay ,everything we needed in the cottage had good weather to be able to sit outside ,cottage in a good position to get afternoon sun ,would certainly stay here again

The cottage was really lovely, clean and fresh felt relaxed as soon as we walked in.

The whole of the Bay complex was clean and tidy, only niggle was there was no 'corner shop' were you could get your morning paper and milk, you had to drive to the petrol station up the road, but apart from that brilliant. The dogs loved the beach and the walk was very nice down to the beach, going back was a bit steep but after a couple of days got a bit fitter :-). Will certainly book there again if we go back to Filey.
