Beautiful setting, friendly redhaired, longhorned neighbours.

The cabin is well equiped, clean and well worth the money.

Castle View Cabin was adequate for a mini break and the general cleanliness and standard of the cabin was okay and we enjoyed a wonderful few days at this very quiet, peaceful location.

Castle view cabin is situated in a beautiful area with sweeping views over the sea, countryside and forest with two Highland cattle in the next field.

The facilities are compact, clean and comfortable. James is a very friendly, helpful and generous host.

The cabin was lovely, it had everything you would need for a lovely holiday.

The only down side was the narrow door ways into the bathroom & bedroom. But a lovely bedroom and comfortable bed, bathroom very modern and the shower was great. Generally a fantastic cabin with gorgeous views and so peaceful and tranquil. Looking forward to going back next year.

We had a fantastic week at Castle View Cabin.

The Cabin is very well equipped, cosy & comfortable with spectacular views. A fantastic place to unwind. James was very welcoming. We really didn't want to leave & hope we can return. Very highly recommended.

Castle view is peaceful and has amazing views, As a base it was fine, everything was clean , and had everything you needed.

However we had to turn sideways whenever we left a couple of the rooms, the openings were ok for skinny people but not us, my Hubby is average size and he struggled. The garden seat is delicate and needs securing as it could collapse. But the area is Beautiful and we enjoyed our stay.

We recently stayed at Castle View Cabin and the cabin is situated in beautiful surroundings.

Unspoilt views of the National Park & the sea views across the field were breathtaking. It was a peaceful spot that was ideal for accessing Scarborough & Whitby alike & there were some great places nearby to visit. The Hayburn Wyke Waterfall was incredible & a wonderful spot to have something to eat at the nearby pub. We also highly recommend Bryherstones, a great place to eat with excellent home cooked food & warm hospitality. The Cabin itself we unfortunately found to be unclean so we ended up having to clean it ourselves to make it more comfortable. The doorways into the bedroom & bathroom were very narrow but there was warning of this on the website. We found the bedroom smelt of damp & the bedding didn’t smell clean, the same with the towels. The bed itself was very comfortable but we couldn’t really rest as the smell of damp was so strong. The shower was lovely and powerful however. The hallway floor was dirty & the doormat was unclean to the point we had to move it out of the way to avoid standing on it. The kitchen floor was dirty when we arrived; crumbs scattered about & we had to clean the cupboards before putting our food away as they too were dirty. We couldn’t use the kettle or toaster as the kettle was filled with limescale & the toaster was full of crumbs. There was no bin bag in the bathroom bin & no spare bin bags for us to use which meant having to put bathroom rubbish into the kitchen bin to dispose of at the end of our stay. There were dead insects all through the cabin; on the window ledges & in webs across the ceilings. The outdoor area was wonderful, a great spot for star gazing. However the bench at the top of the steps isn’t safe for use as it is broken. This could be a lovely retreat as the location is wonderful. However the cabin really does need a deep clean & improving to maximise its potential. The owner did leave a bottle of wine & milk in the fridge which we were grateful for but sadly won’t be returning. We really hope this property is improved on for people to enjoy the wonderful surroundings in the future.

Really enjoyed our stay, lovely little cabin with everything we needed.

Neighbouring highland cows were truly gorgeous. Very peaceful and private with great scenery. Narrow doors with magnetic closures were a challenge at times but we appreciate the listing did warn us the doorways would be narrow. Wooden bench out the front of the property is broken and unsafe to sit on.

Lovely inside with great facilities, lots of hot water, great views, could do with a little TLC outside of cabin, but generally a great little cabin in fab location

We found the property to be dirty and damaged on the outside and it hadn’t been cleaned properly on the inside with cobwebs, dead insects, dirty, sticky kitchen stools and dirty carpets. 2). The kitchen area had a stained sink, dirt around the hob, sticky food on the side of the fridge and on the floor. The pizza tray is rusty and the oven tray is dirty. Cupboard handles are sticky, cupboard fronts are stained and we found rodent droppings under the sink. 3), The shower head is filthy and doesn’t stay on the wall of the shower. The WC pan is stained as is the drain in the sink. 4). The pillows are stained. The owner replaced them at our request and the replacements were stained too. The TV in the bedroom doesn’t work and the TV in the living room doesn’t receive any BBC channels. 5). The property is described by Sykes as ‘recently refurbished’. There is no evidence of this. 6). Sykes Customer Services have been particularly unhelpful in dealing with our complaints. We have provided them with photos of the property and they have taken no responsibility for the condition of the property even though we booked it having read the description on their website. They say that the property owner.is responsible for the property being clean, equipped as described and suitable for rental and not them. 7). We found the owner to be well meaning and he did try to deal with some issues. He was helpful in returning some items of clothing that we’d left in the cabin and for that, we are grateful. 8). However, we cannot recommend this property. We abandoned our visit after two nights, having booked the cabin for a week. We’ve booked many cottages with Sykes over quite a number of years. If they are happy to offer properties in this condition, then we will be very reluctant to book again with them. They have totally ignored the photographic evidence we have submitted to them and have simply relied on what the owner has told them. They rely on what is written in their ‘small print’ to attempt to evade any responsibility for the marketing of this property even though renters are totally reliant on them describing properties accurately. Renters are not provided with the contact details of the owners when booking a property so cannot contact an owner for up to date information about a property before making a booking. You’re only provided with the location details when you’ve paid the rental in full and with no facility for a refund if the property has been described inaccurately. We’ll be interested to see whether Sykes Cottages publish this review in full on their website. We have photographs that support each of the comments we’ve made in this review.

Lovely unique cabin with everything but sofa a little challenging views were stunning any one with animal/wildlife interest would be impressed steps from car parking were quite steep as each step was over a foot high and as this is only 2 berth quite elderly clientele may struggle a little extra touches from James of bottle of wine and milk in jug in fridge were really nice.

Would recommend highly with just the 2 caveats mentioned a very special place for a relaxing holiday.

The Cabin is located in beautiful countryside overlooking Scarborough Castle.

There is plenty of birdlife, wildlife and Highland cattle in the next field. A comfortable stay in the compact Cabin with all facilities.

Lovely cabin, close to Scarborough Owner James very friendly but not intrusive.

This is the most peaceful location I have ever stayed in, surrounded by countryside and animals.

A great view of the castle in the distance and not too far from the Cinder Track and The Cleveland Way if you're a keen walker. I felt so secure here. Around a ten minute drive into Scarborough. Will definitely want to stay again!

We stayed in the above accommodation and we were not informed that it was located on a farm yard The outside of the accommodation was not up to scratch need a lot of attention The steps up to the accommodation were not safe It was not in walking distance to any were Will not be going back It was not worth the amount we payed

James, the owner, is friendly and helpful we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning.

Absolutely fabulous stay.

The weather wasn't pleasant, but it made no difference. Clean, warm and cosy, with beautiful views, the perfect place to relax and forget about the daily grind. We loved everything, from the two gorgeous Highland Bulls in the adjacent field to the gorgeous cats and kittens that liked to peer through the door window for treats. Breakfast, sat overlooking the rolling fields to the sea beyond was a delight, the kitchen had everything you need, including a welcome bottle of wine, a lovely touch. James, the owner, is a lovely guy. He lives in the adjacent farmhouse and is at the end of a phone if you need anything. We dined twice at The Blacksmiths Arms, a 5-minute drive away, and the service, atmosphere and food were fantastic, highly recommended. Only one note of caution. If you fancy getting a Chinese takeaway, avoid Morrido like the plague. How it is rated so highly is beyond me. The place was filthy and having got back with a £27 banquet, the whole lot ended up straight in the bin. Greasy, gloopy, just horrible.

The cabin was lovely and relaxing.

Everything was provided and the owner was very friendly and helpful. It was lovely to eat your meals looking out to the sea everyday. Would definitely like to go back there.

We came to walk another stretch of the Cleveland Way and this cabin was in a perfect location for us, quiet, remote and traffic free.

we stayed 3 nights at castle view from 28april to 1st May, lovely quiet and peaceful place away from hustle and bustle of town, property was cosy, comfy and had all we needed for our stay, visited whitby, scarborough, thornton le dale and Robin hoods Bay and had a great weekend thank you to James for providing a lovely little hideaway and the wine

Lovely place and location, everything you need in cabin, lots of walks and lovely scenery, only thing that was disappointing was there was at least 5 cats outside the door every time you open the door so couldn’t leave door open.

Considering, James, the owner of the property is a a single chap running the property and a farm, he has done a magnificent job in making Castle View a very comfortable, well fitted out, holiday accommodation.

The perfect hideaway for complete peace and quiet,you are not overlooked or in anyway pressured.

. The owner James is very obliguing and will help you if required without being intrusive..Enjoyed our stay here amongst the wild life and country surroundings very much.

View from the cabin of Scarborough castle amazing. Surrounded by nature making the stay relaxing and reinvigorating. Loved having the sheep and shorthorns as neighbours and making friends with the kittens. Would love to come again.

The fantastic location and view can hardly be beaten.

Everything we needed was available and James is always very cheerful, helpful and considerate. It’s a lovely area to explore though because of personal mobility issues, we were unable to benefit from the footpaths.

we enjoyed our holiday very much , this is the first time we have been to scarborough since 2019 with the pandemic , it is so quiet and relaxing and out of the way and with coastal views to die for , the host james was very welcoming to us , courteous friendly and helpful , we will definitely being going back again next year if we are fit and able to do so , john & kath .

We were impressed by the items provided.

Electric fan, hairdryer, iron, lots of kitchen equipment etc. Also bottle of wine. Cabin was larger than expected and the view was amazing. James was just a phone call away had we had a problem. Would consider staying again in the future.

Cabin was perfectly sited with a wonderful view out to the sea and of Scarborough Castle to the right.

In a rural location the cabin is very quiet, and being surrounded by fields and woodland we spent time bird watching as well as watching the changing skies and the sea. The cabin is also in a perfect place for spending time in Whitby and Scarborough - both just a short drive away, we also did some lovely walks at Ravenscar, on the Moors and at Falling Foss. Would recommend as a holiday destination.

Lovely rural location, easy 3(?

) mile drive to Scarborough. A great view of Scarboro' castle, Filey headland and Flamboro' headland from the lounge window (on a clear day!) Very good for 2 staying. Good sized double bedroom for a cabin, with comfy bed. No dishwasher or washing machine, but we never use them anyway on holiday. Small kitchen area perfectly adequate for easy meals. Wifi always worked although a couple of TV channels were not available on Freeview. Access from parking space either the short route up steps or slightly longer round the side up a sloping driveway. Friendly proprietor on site. First time arrival it was a bit tricky to spot the farm track entrance off the main road from South - look out for the red and white 'concealed entrance ahead' warning sign just before. GCH was very capable of keeping us warm when we needed it. Lots of USB power sockets.

We really enjoyed our 3 days and found James very friendly.

We hope to return as apart from the cabin the views are breath taking.

We had the most wonderful weekend away in North Yorkhire!

The property was so cosy, with everything we needed for cooking and perfect for a weekend away, with a beautiful view, easy access to walks and beaches as well as a close drive to Scarborough town centre for meals out and museums! The owner was so helpful and we had a fantastic time!

We had a lovely stay at the castle view cabin.

James greeted us when we got there and made is feel very welcome. The cabin has everything you would need . The view is amazing! We seen deer right beside the cabin grazing every day we were there. Plenty of lovely peaceful walks nearby.

Lovely, relaxing place to stay with some of the best coastal views that I’ve seen.

It’s in a peaceful location with everything you need for a comfortable stay. I’d love to go back to stay again in the future and would recommend it for anyone wanting a peaceful break.

The cabin was absolutely lovely!

James has created a magical place. The attention to detail was immaculate, down to the warm towels, cosy bedding, and home comforts. Our expectations were completely surpassed, and we will definitely visit again!

Wonderful week away, the accommodation was well presented, comfortable and well equipped.

Castle View Cabin near Cloughton is a must visit holiday destination.

My son (22) and I had a 1 week stay there in June 2021. The cabin is actually located on a farm, down a short farm track off the village road. There are some fields used for camping and there is also a holiday cottage on site. I must firstly thank James (the owner) who is second to none as far as I’m concerned when it comes to points of contact for your holiday. James lives in the farm house adjacent to the cabin and is the most friendly and genuine local chap you could wish to meet. He came over and introduced himself when we arrived and said if we needed anything at all just to tap on the farm house door or phone him at any time during our stay. He is full of local knowledge and has a wealth of information on things to see and do and places to visit. The cabin itself is very thoughtfully laid out with a Lounge, a Kitchen, 2 bedrooms (1 double and a single) and a shower room. It has gas fired central heating and also a modern electric fire (I guess real cozy for those winter hols with long dark nights) Obviously we didn’t have cause to use the heating as we holidayed in June but great to see it’s there when required. The good thing we found was the plentiful supply of hot water both in the shower and also for washing up. There is a window in the shower that has a view out over the field towards the wood and is great to gaze out of whilst taking a shower ! The kitchen itself is very well appointed with a full size gas oven and ample crockery and cutlery. There are also all the kitchen utensils you could wish for and more ! In fact it’s the most utensils I have ever seen in a holiday home ever (and we’ve stopped in loads over the years) The beds are very comfortable and both bedrooms come with ample storage for a week away. It is so peaceful to lie back and all you can hear is the wildlife. The dawn chorus sounds amazing and it’s such a beautiful location to wake up in every morning. There is a smart TV in the lounge with access to all Freeview channels and YouTube etc etc. The WiFi connectivity is excellent and was great for us to connect our phones, laptop and iPad. The view from the cabin is a real unique feature and is truly stunning. It looks out over the rolling fields towards the coast and beyond to Scarborough Castle, then Filey Brig and right in the distance you’ll see Flamborough. It’s well worth taking a pair of binoculars. We spent ages looking out to sea and along the coast. The cliffs at Flamborough look especially amazing ! The other thing that looks great out of the window is the wildlife. There are numerous birds of all sizes. We also saw a pair of young foxes playing in the field one evening and the next evening saw a pair of baggers playing. We also saw some deer in the field on a number of occasions. The grounds around the farm are great to explore. Obviously the main farmhouse and associated buildings are out of bounds as these are James’s private areas as is the main yard at the end of the drive. We went on a few walks out from the farm itself as there are public footpaths in most directions. The short walk down to Hayburn Wyke Waterfall is really good to get your bearings and get down to the coast. From here you can also pick up the Cinder Path to Scarborough in one direction and Whitby in the other. It’s a disused railway route and a real easy walk or cycle with wonderful scenery. The other great thing here is you’ve got the Hayburn Wyke Inn to have a cheeky beer or two. We had Evening meal there a couple of times too and the food and beer is excellent. The other pub local to the cabin is The Bryherstones Country Inn and that also serves excellent food and beer. All in all Castle View Cabin is a beautiful place to spend a week away. The cabin was filthy dirty hadn't been cleaned properly for months cobwebs dust and dirt everywhere the whole place smelled of damp also slugs in the bathroom at night crawling on the sink and loo, the shower was very slow to drain, really not fit to ask people to live in let alone pay to holiday in .

..if it hadn't been our first week before we moved on we would have gone home ..really not acceptable!

Castle View Cabin is in a brilliant situation.

The accommodation is compact but adequate if you are reasonably active. James was very helpful and we had a wonderful holiday.

James who runs the farm is a good guy to deal with, friendly reception when we arrived and has put a lot of effort to put this Log Cabin up there amongst the good rentals.

Pubs local in the area just coming out of lockdown. Views stunning , walks excellent, Scarborough average but the area is central for a lot of locations.

The lane going up to the farm was pretty bad.

, not tarmacked and full of pot holes. The cabin was really just a caravan and didnt smell very nice when we arrived. it was comfortable enough but the sofa was very very low and hard to get up off. The views were spectacular though and we did have a complimentary bottle of wine.

James was very helpful when we couldn't light oven and got it sorted for us straight away. Fabulous walks from the door down to one of the local pubs and waterfall. Easy to explore local area. Would stay again.

The cabin is situated in the most delightful location.

You are surrounded by wildlife - a birdwatchers paradise. There are wildflower areas behind the cabin where we were able to watch, quite close up from the cabin, adult goldfinches feeding their juveniles on thistle head seeds. A once in a lifetime experience! James is a charming and friendly host who went out of his way to be helpful.

We had a fabulous holiday break at Castle View Cabin, the cabin was cosy, clean and very well catered for in terms of everything required for dining in, towels, toilet rolls, beds made up, and very adequate heating.

Garden furniture was provided for enjoying the brilliant views across to Scarborough Castle and beyond, which in spite of being December when we visited, we were lucky to have some really nice bright and sunny weather, which we made the most of sitting on the bench outside enjoying the lovely views and wildlife. We wouldn't hesitate in spending time at the cabin again in the near future. so peaceful, and ideal to recharge. James, the owner, lives nearby, unfortunately we didn't get to meet him as we were out and about every day exploring the area, but he was very approachable and friendly when we spoke, offering his help if needed.

The cabin is in a location with breathtaking views straight out to Scarborough bay.
