“Upon arrival the property was not available to access on time as the cleaners were still there, there was a miscommunication between Sykes and thenm about checking-in time.”

We said no problem take your time but it was clear they were rushing. Entering the property it became clear that was the case and also the boiler was not working so any cleaning done was done so with cold water.. Sykes were useless...I called their emergency number as property was unclean and broken boiler and the property maintenance had no answer initially either. Cleanliness issues and maintenance: - Dog hairs and make up on bedding - Food debris, dog hairs and dirt in cupboards and drawers - Dog hairs on floors and window sills - Cobwebs - Top of fridge thick in dirt had never been cleaned - Chipped furniture and bath edging - Loose toilet seat - Bin pedal too kept coming off - Side of child bed and underneath filthy with dtaines and dirt and hairs - Sofas all crumbs under seats - Patio furniture does not match that on image advertised much small and lower quality - Bed are so uncomfortable you sit on them and feel yourself got through the springs and to the bed slats,. I am a very light person too. - Not enough smaller glasses or wine glasses just lots of pint glasses. Minimal cutlery. - Holes in one of the bedroom walls where a TV had been moved. I have photographic images of all issue's. I reported these within 30/40 minutes.of being at the property and it's 3 weeks post stay and Sykes despite phone calls still haven't resolved. The property manager was so rude and defensive. She did come back and do a much better clean after I pointed out all areas and swapped bedding...however the new still had dog hair and dirt on She then proceeded to send me an extensive and abusive message about coming back. I also informed her we had do a little cleaning ourselves somshe would not find it as bad as we did because initially I couldn't get hold of anyone but we also had dinner reservations to get to. I was informed the bedding was clean if that's the case then any bedding with stains should be thrown away and not used and that the hairs come from throws they don't change so why have these throws. I have shown the images to multiple friends and customers.since being home and all said they would not have wanted to stay in the property. There was food and dog hairs in the plates drawer. Beds were so bad we took it in turns to sleep on the sofa and came home a day early because we all were not sleeping and had acquired back problems as a result Water pressure drops on shower and it pretty much stops if anyone runs water anywhere else when you are in it. It's a shame as I'm sure when initially built I'm sure it was nice and the location is lovely. However I can't imagine the mattresses were ever good quality based on how thin they are. It was not reflective of the listing and definitely not 5 ticks as listed. I have stayed in a 5 tick property before which was wonderful and immaculate. This was not that..Sykes is truly awful to deal with....AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

About the location

STAITHES

Whitby 10 miles.

The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to an RNLI lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
