“The cottage was very spacious and very clean and had all the amenities you would expect.”

For us, in was in a perfect location and served as a great base from which to explore the area and the owner was very welcoming. However, there were a few things which detracted from our stay. For us, in was in a perfect location and served as a great base from which to explore the area and the owner was very welcoming. However, there were a few things which detracted from our stay. My husband suggested the place had been decorated by a ‘man’, ie. very functional with no homely touches. There were no curtains in the living room which made the room feel stark and cold and left us feeling exposed on dark evenings. Together with the lack of other soft furnishings (like rugs) the acoustics of the room were terrible if you had multiple people trying to do different activities in the space. Household cleaning equipment like the vacuum cleaner, mop and bucket, clothes dryer etc. were just stacked in the corner of the living room, very unsightly and not what we want to sit and look at. A rusted open, ‘whirly gig’ clothes dryer was placed in the middle of the picnic table where there should have been a sun umbrella ! Who wants to sit and look at that in front of the picture window or enjoy their morning coffee or a BBQ sat under a clothes line ? The glazing in the bedroom was badly broken and stuck up with sellotape – this is an easy fix and it should have been repaired immediately. And then our old favourite, all the kitchen cupboards full of crockery and utensils and absolutely no where to place our own food and provisions other than the counter top. It is a nice lodge but with more attention to detail and the customer experience it could be a ‘great’ lodge.

About the location

SHERIFF HUTTON

Malton 10 miles; York 11 miles.

Nestled among gently rolling hills between York and Malton, the peaceful village of Sheriff Hutton is steeped in history, with the ruins of a 14th century castle, housing Richard III in 1483, and a medieval church with Norman tower dating from 1100, which still has enclosed pews today. The village is delightful, with a green and two pubs, both serving food, one dating back to the 1600s. The City of York is only 11 miles away, while the North York Moors Steam Railway in Pickering, and the East coast seaside towns of Bridlington, Hornsea and Scarborough, as well as Whitby and Harrogate are all within driving distance. Local activities abound and the area is excellent for walking, cycling and exploring.

Please note check in time for this property 6pm and check out is 10am prompt, thank you.
