Lovely comfortable lodge

Our second visit, fantastic lodge, amazing park.

Great location as well so close to all the great locations in County Durham, North Yorkshire and the dales. Only slight issue this year is there are a couple of things need attention, front steps and smell in the main bathroom, nothing too serious

The second step on going up to the decking broken also the large oven not working

We had a lovely weekend!

Accommodation is spacious & bright. Great kitchen space & dinning area. Main bedroom has ample room with walk in wardrobe leading to ensuite. There were a few tired areas that could do with updating but this did not impact our stay at all. The park is beautiful & peaceful. Looking forward to booking again

For my disabled wife all the seats were too low, so uncomfortable for her and myself.

They looked ok in the photos. So we left after five nights instead of the seven we booked. Others may find them ok. The bed was very comfortable and all facilities ok. Decking needs checked loose rail

The settee was uncomfortable otherwise everything was fine.

Gemma was very helpful by replacing the tv as we found it not working on arrival. A mop and a brush & shoval would be a good idea. On saying that we had an enjoyable stay abd would reccomend ti othets who like a quiet and peaceful accomadation

Our second visit was a bit disappointing, think the lodge and it is a lodge not a caravan is great , but starting to look a bit tired ,the main cooker was terrible the bottom is covered in thick grease when we turned it on it stunk the place out,used the top oven after that , the hoover stinks when using it, the draining board and plastic plate dryer thing was filthy , the baking trays were covered in grease didn’t use them ,bits fall off the small bathroom cupboard when you open it around the chrome is dirty , we had to remove the shower head in the main bathroom as it was thick with black gunge , 2023 magazines still there, the whicker place mats have dried in food on them ,very dusty in places and the cupboards and interior glass look as though they were wiped over with a dirty cloth , as you have to be out of the accommodation by 9 am and can’t arrive until 3 pm there is plenty time to clean the property but I would say that if previous customers cleaned up after them then greasy tins ovens and draining boards shouldn’t be a problem it’s a shame because it has everything going for it that is why we returned but in 12 month it seems to have dropped in std possibly

Our second time of staying was very comfortable.

Could do with a few little repairs but was good quality furnishings. Need mirror in small bedroom.

Had a lovely couple of days.

Lodge was beautiful and had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend.

This is the second time staying on Badges Retreat but first time at Hidden Gem and what a fantastic lodge!

Very spacious and comfortable. Location is great being close to Catterick Garrison and Richmond. Lots of places to visit a short drive away too. There is also a great info pack which always helps. Sorry, we forgot to write in the guestbook! We will be back and will tell everyone about Hidden Gem!!

This is the 2nd year in a row we have stayed at badgers retreat last year with our dog with us and he loved it as much as us.

The site is beautiful peaceful. And very quiet the town of Richmond nearby has got everything you would need

What a super lodge this is.

We have stayed in plenty of cottages, and lodges, and it's one of the best we have rented. We had a slight problem with the heating, and the problem was me I couldn't work out how to set it. I called Gemma the next day when we was out and about, and she asked where we was, and drove to us for the key and set the heating for what we wanted. How is that for customers satisfaction... absolutely tip top, would definitely recommend. The site is small and very quiet. 10 out of 10 thanks for a great stay.

The cottage was amazing very comfortable also so handy for supermarkets and also Richmond.

The only negative I had was my dealings with Sykes cottages I messaged them on a number of occasions about my booking but never had much of a reply and never got anywhere with my query. Luckily this did not spoil our stay but thought the owner should know as I’m sure she is getting charged for there assistance in letting the cottage.

Having stayed on previous occasions we have noticed that it is becoming tired and could do with some updating.

One thing was the towels which were very grey and dirty in a couple of cases . We solved that by buying ourselves new towels. I know this is just our preference but the bed is too small for a couple . Leaving at 9am is also a bit of a rush . After saying this we would still love to come stay , if you will still have us after our comments

Enjoyable stay on a lovely site!

The water taps are the wrong way round and cold water comes out of the wrong side. The bed was conforable and recommend the property. A coffee table instead of the large stool would have been better to be able to put drinks on in front of TV.

Oh what a hidden gem this property is!

It was spotless (not a dog hair in sight) we don’t have a dog so was a little concerned but we fell in love with the look of it on line so took a chance! So cosy home from home we were delighted with the little touches such as tea towel washing up liquid dish washer tablets etc and then a little tray with Yorkshire tea Nescafé and a selection of jams all added to the comfort of our stay it was 8 mins to catterick Garrison and 11mins from Richmond the country roads greenery everywhere we went and the quietness and birds singing all made our stay magical

A very comfortable lodge and peaceful surroundings.

Lodge just needs a few bits of maintenance sorting but overall a nice lodge.

A few loose fittings, main oven didn't work no light when switched on ,heating was very poor very cold in evening no instructions on how to turn it up otherwise a very nice lodge

It was a lovely clean homely Lodge, well situated and peaceful, would love to stay again sometime

Very nice lodge and comfortable, had an issue with no electric over night but owners were very quick to resolve it and would like to thank them.

One negative is having to be out by 9am was a bit of a rush 10am would have been better!. The caretakers of the site especially the female not friendly at all but gentleman was a nice friendly guy, but kept park looking nice.

Excellent week away, lodge was very clean and comfortable and well maintained.

We wanted a peaceful location to avoid the fireworks in our home town as our dog is terrified of them, and this did not disappoint. Will definitely be booking again, thank you.

Really enjoyed your lodge we stayed 7 nights Could do with a plug that actually fits the bath tub Also skirting boards could do with a good clean and extractor fan in kitchen full of grease I notice these things because I'm a cleaner Also sofa under cushions needed a good hoover I know this sounds a bit picky but thought it would help Thank you

I booked this cabin purely that it was pet friendly, the cabin and the site was a wonderful bonus that it was so nice.

The cabin was clean and comfortable, perfect for our few days. The site was so well looked after and a good field for dog walks nearby. will definitely look to book again.

Fantastic location, couldn't of wished for any more will definitely be back.

Excellent time at lodge this our second 7 night stay luvly and clean through out everything required was at hand even a vac cleaner comfy beds nice hot shower .

Downside , due to popular demand this is starting to show its age in places main being carpets needing heavy clean or replacement in lounge area and hallway .. this not put us off we really enjoyed our stay at badgers retreat . Kevin ..

We feel 9am is rather early for check out, we left the afternoon before, thus shortening our holiday which is not very good.

Also the plugs on both bathroom sinks do not hold water, I think they are worn out.

One of the best sites we have stayed at site was so peaceful and lodge beautiful liked it so much we got home and booked up for October 24 5 stars from us also loved dog friendly it was

Comfortable accommodation, and equipped with everything you need for your stay. Great location for sightseeing around the area.

The lodge was in a pretty and peaceful location it was very clean well equipped stunning kitchen comfy sofas and beds.

Unfortunately hob not working this was rectified next day when table top hob supplied. Could do with second side table in lounge area. Tv only had small selection of terrestrial channels. Frame around sky light had been botched up. Step into shower very high and could have been much lower when originally installed. Toilet in main bathroom difficult to flush and needed new syphon. Mirror in dressing area needs lowering when sat on stool could only see top half of my head. Overall good lodge but above issues need rectifiying. Site reception never open

Had a lovely stay in this lodge.

Clean, comfortable and well equipped. I really don’t want to put anything negative but the advert stated there was a dvd player and there wasn’t. As the weather was not very kind I bought a cheap dvd player from Argos. But do not let tat detract from a great stay in a comfortable place.

We had a wonderful time in a comfortable, spacious and clean lodge.

'Hidden Gem' is situated in a lovely, quiet and picturesque holiday park, with dog walking facilities within metres of the lodge. We look forward to returning next year, and are already counting the days.

We had the most beautiful much needed holiday, Just a minor issue the freezer really needed defrosting, good idea to defrost after each booking.

Would love to return to the same lodge

Myself and my parents (and 2 big dogs) had a very comfortable stay at Badger's retreat.

It was very quiet and peaceful and our 'retreat' was beautiful. There is not much in Tunstall itself but LOADS to see within 15-30 minutes drive away.

Very good value lodge in a nice quiet and well maintained holiday park.

Excellent base for exploring the dales and moors.

On first walking in to lodge, it felt like home, some small issues, main bathroom window was open only found on 2nd day, main bedroom window sash having gap in bottom right hand corner, when windy the lodge howled as wind came through poor double glazed windows, my opinion is replacing them, as numerous attempts to rectify have failed.

I would also like to see king size beds instead of double bed, cramped. But apart from that there was sufficient kitchen appliances, and utensils, and yes we have recommended this to our friends, and one couple already booked, and yes we will return in the future. Thank you.

Excellent place so homely comfortable and local to so much will be back in summer .

Lovely comfortable lodge, decorated and furnished to a high standard.

Quiet & peaceful location. Enjoyed sitting on the veranda in the sunshine! Great location to explore the local attractions.

The Lodge is so comfortable and in a beautiful location. Would recommend this property to everyone. The owner was amazing and replied immediately to a small issue that we had and it was sorted the same day. Thank you for a wonderful week at Badgers Retreat.

We arrived in the pouring and site power failure only to find no one available to identify which was our lodge and then had to contact your office for info.

Problem was that nowhere on your paperwork was the number or the name of lodge shown. I noted a previous comment on a feedback listing this problem but you obviously haven’t acted on. Another issue was that on Thursday our final day at breakfast we were greeted by workman with a digger looking to repair some drainage problem. Surely this could have been done next day during changeover. Shame because otherwise a lovely stay

Beautiful lodge and considering it is dog friendly this is one of the nicest and cleanest places we've stayed at.

Usually dog friendly properties are only 2-3*. Our 2 pups loved this place.

Beautiful lodge we enjoyed every minute so warm and cosy with the wild weather outside, we hope to stay again at some point,

Wow, what a lovely place, very clean and beautifully furnished, and well equipped too, excellent value for money and so peaceful.

It’s just a short drive for anything you need including shopping or sights to be seen. All in all a wonderful stay, added bonus of a beautifully decorated Christmas tree and high quality welcome pack

A little nest of tables in the lounge to stand cups on would be handy Sykes need to put the number of the lodge on customers paperwork.
