We had a lovely stay at Farnes Lodge.

The location was ideal for visitng the area and we had all we needed to make our stay comfortable.Didnt understand why there were no hand towels but that was not a major issue.The owner was very helpful and quick to respond when we had a problem with the bahroom door.

Unfortunately for the first time in 20 years of using Sykes we have just had the proverbial Holiday from hell.

I have already put a complaint in and supplied photos to back up our complaint. The Log cabin was in a filthy state when we arrived so much so that we left a day early. Hope this explains the scoring

Thank you for your feedback. We were really disappointed and surprised to read your comments, as what you describe is very different from both our own experience of the cabin and the feedback we normally receive from guests. We have the cabin professionally cleaned before every stay and have spoken to our cleaner about the concerns you raised. She did not notice anything unusual when preparing the cabin for your arrival, and having visited the cabin myself recently, neither did I. We were also particularly surprised as previous guests recently gave us 5 stars and specifically described the cabin as “lovely, very clean”. Cleanliness has consistently been rated highly by our other recent guests too. We do take your comments seriously. With regard to the outside of the cabin, the park is in a rural, wooded valley and naturally there will be spiders, insects and cobwebs around the exterior from time to time, particularly during the summer. We clear these as regularly as we can, but unfortunately they can reappear very quickly. We will, however, continue to keep on top of the outside areas as much as possible. We understand that you contacted Sykes on the Monday after arriving. Unfortunately, those concerns were not passed on to us at the time and we only became aware of them after your stay. Had we known, we would have arranged for the cabin to be checked and our cleaner to return straight away if anything needed attention. We would always much rather have the opportunity to put something right while a guest is still there. We are sorry that you ultimately chose to leave a day early and that the cabin wasn't what you had hoped for. It is a simple, traditional holiday cabin, but one that we care a great deal about. We want everyone who stays there to find it clean, comfortable and welcoming, and we'll continue to look after it and take constructive feedback on board.
