On the website this looked like a really nice place to stay however the log cabin was extremely dirty , a foul smell of drains from the bathroom , broken fridge , dirty kettle and plates that needed washing before using , cig buts in the chimena even though published by Sykes as non smoking ….

hot tub had yellow scum marks around the edges , bath had gaffer tape over the overflow section

This guest received the usual meet and greet. He was very impressed with the place upon his arrival and was told at least 5 times to get in touch if there were any issues. He failed to do so, apart from the time he wanted to connect his firestick to the TV just after his arrival. He said that was fine, then radio silence from him until this review. How are we supposed to fix things if the guest goes quiet, especially when he was told to contact if he had a problem? Since seeing this review, we have looked at the place and made relevant changes.

Very peaceful property - backs into the woods with is obviously a wonderful experience.

The property generally has most of what you would need. The parking is ample and the hot tub was clean. The living space was significant. Whilst the oven was not the best the utensils were extensive and not left wanting. What reduced the 5* rating potential for me was some issues with the drains in the main bathroom. A vile smell after every shower. we have stayed in other cabins on site and never had this before in summer or anytime. I think the drains need looked at. Some slight issues eg light not working, batteries dead in tv remote, WiFi very poor. Ultimately, though, would probably return and enjoyed the time in the lodge.

Thanks to the guest for this review. The plumber has informed us the smell has now gone. Here are clarifications to the minor problems mentioned: 1. The guest was informed of the light not working in the ensuite bathroom upon arrival, which has since been sorted. 2. The TV remote must be pointing at the centre of the TV. 3. Please be aware that the log cabin has a wooded area adjacent to it, which can make the WiFi signal strength weak at times. We hope to see this guest again at Starwood.

The property was very good if in need of a little tlc.

We were warned about a wasp nest in a shed in the garden, this was contained although the shed door was ajar and I got stung walking around that side of the property as the wasps were aggressive, defending the nest. The garden was a little unkempt. The door to enter the property was sticking & the lock a little fiddly. Inside, the carpet was a little stained but the property was generally clean and well kitted out. The kitchen area was a good size & fairly well equipped, the kettle needed a descale & the oven trays were well used. The living area was comfortable, the TV looked impressive although the screen was damaged. The bed we used could do with a new mattress & the shower cubicle door was sticking in the ensuite. A few improvements and this could be a 5 star review. The site itself was fantastic, lovely walks for the dog around the site and through the woods. It was generally quiet although children were arriving during our last couple of days and the noise levels late in the evening increased slightly. The area is fabulous, great roads to all areas & 20 minutes to the beach. Northumberland is a fantastic part of the UK, beautiful scenery and clean long beaches. And on a sunny day, it's unbeatable. Loved our stay, will definitely consider returning again

Broken luxury.

On arrival we were Met at the cabin by the owner, we later realised this was to inform us of all the unusable facilities. we were told that log burner and barbecue could not be used as one of the log cabins had burnt down previously in the last few weeks, unfortunately this could not be helped and is now a park rule. Informed on the day of arrival,that the heating had broken. Radiator had been put ineach room, One of them had only 1 foot. The main shower was broken and could not be used. There was a smell of eggs which came up through the plugs. Owner informed us that the smell would go if the showers were on however this could not be done as the shower was broken. We were informed by the owner that the sound system had been to decommissioned due to misuse. We used a pan for the overhead window leaking in the kitchen which dripped down in the middle of the room. The bedroom lights flickered which could be a problem for anyone who suffers from epilepsy. The Tv is damaged the batteries in the remote control had run out. The vacuum had to be emptied of other people’s grime before we could use it. The carpets are stained. Place was unclean,dishes in the cupboard were filthy under the couches filthy. There was one cereal bowl between four people, two toilet rolls for four people for 1 week stay. The beds were uncomfortable but this was the least of our problems. Place looks wonderful on her arrival but everything is broken. It is broken luxury. Very disappointing.

I like to do a meet and greet for my guests to make sure that they are comfortable and happy, and this guest was no different. To suggest otherwise is not true. I couldn't make it that day, so I sent my elderly father to do it. At the end of your stay, he went over to speak to the cleaner. They were late in vacating the log cabin and this lady shouted at him, while her husband stood there looking embarrassed. I was taught to respect my elders. Clearly, this lady wasn't taught the same as me. There had been issues with heating which have since been fixed. To make sure the log cabin had sufficient heating, I bought and installed heaters as a temporary measure to make sure the guests weren't cold. "One of them had only one leg", that's nonsense. Then again, you can't expect much from someone like this. Saying the TV is broken when she was watching it is laughable, as is calling the place unclean despite hiring a professional cleaning company. I could go on but I think I've made my point. Beware of this guest!

Stayed at Starwood lodge recently.

As previous comments suggested, this has got the potential to be an awesome retreat. The lodge and grounds are ideal and private ideal for dogs, although our dog escaped through a gap near the old hot tub lid!(if its old and broken it doesn't need to be there) I could imagine it being lovely in the summer months but as it was colder we stayed inside more, tbf it was the amazing looking tv and sound set up along with the oven and fancy shower that first attracted me. Sadly none of those things worked properly, the oven worked but needed a good deep clean(the rest of the lodge could also do with a good clean) we found hair bobbles lolly pops in vases, malteasers and popcorn from previous guests this could do with addressing with the cleaning team. Both toilets needed fixing after every flush (it's not an expensive fix) Hot tub was only cleaned once in our 5 night stay and that was the last day when they did a full empty and re-fill leaving it cold after that for our last night. I'm not sure what the guidelines are but I thought the hot tub would be inspected every few days or so. With all that said, these could be looked at as minor issues and easy fixes, I would definitely love to stay at this lodge again But I would like to see some improvements made. I don't normally do reviews but my suggestions would be. If somethings broke fix it If something is redundant remove it.

This guest is a respectful person with my sincere thanks for their review, and is more than welcome to stay at Starwood again. The necessary improvements will be made. With this in mind, I would like to address the following points: 1. I always tell guests to call me if there are any problems or queries upon the conclusion of my meet and greet. Unfortunately, the guest did not do that. If I am unaware of something that can make a stay better, I am unable to be of any assistance, especially after doing a meet and greet. 2. I employ a hot tub maintenance company. They are on hand should any problems arise, meaning they will only check if specifically instructed to at the request of the guest. 3. Reading this review, the guest has mentioned the cleaning was not to a standard they expected. After a thorough investigation carried out by myself, I have found out that the cleaning service has not been up to par recently, and they have been relieved of their duties. 4. To say that the TV did not work properly is not correct. I showed the guest how to work the remote control, and seemed satisfied with how easy to use it is. The sound system is ornamental at the moment, and to remove it would be an expensive and time-consuming operation. With regard to the shower, again I must be aware of these details to put them right.

We had issues with the kitchen lights which we had to reset using the fuse box(apparently fixed the week before) both toilet seats were held on by one fixing, shower in main bedroom cold(waiting for part).

Main bathroom bath tap not very clean and shower head the same. Noticed lots of cobwebs in both bathrooms and high up in the living room(so whoever cleans ) doesn’t vacuum these up. The garden space was ok but I had to remove a dead bird before my dogs could get to it. So safe to say we never used the showers or bath or hot tub for that matter. On the first morning we both were itching from the bed so made the decision to pack up and return home so we will not be returning to Starwood again. I did let the owner know when he rang me about an electrician been sourced for the light so overall not a very good experience and for the price we paid NOT good value…Doubt we will get any money back and if not(lesson learnt)..

To receive a review like this is disappointing and it is unfortunate that the weather was terrible during their stay. As previously stated, we use a professional cleaning company recommended by Sykes. We also do a meet and greet and tell guests to let us know if there are problems and these guests did not inform us about anything bathroom related or indoor cobwebs. They say that they were itching from the bed, however the cleaner had found dogs' hairs in and around the bed and new bedding was purchased at our own cost. To omit this fact from their review is disingenuous and the cleaner has notified us that the bed was completely clean upon the guests' arrival. The kitchen light had issues the week prior and were scheduled to be fixed the day they decided to leave. They complain they found a dead bird in the garden, while knowing very well that the log cabin is in the middle of the countryside. What would they do if they found a dead bird on their front doorstep? It is also pertinent to mention that we have not received a single complaint since these guests left. No compensation was offered because: 1) they let their dogs sleep in the bed which requires more cleaning and to insinuate this was our fault is insulting not only to ourselves and the good service we provide, but also to our valued guests who fully appreciate Starwood; 2) they decided to leave early and we were unable to advertise the log cabin to someone else, while only notifying us of their departure when they were about to be informed that an electrician was coming to fix the kitchen lights. While we welcome constructive criticism to improve our service to guests, we have to be careful of people intentionally leaving misleading reviews such as this one.

I have a number of observations re Starwood and the site.

There are obviously some issues with the water supply on site. We were unable to utilise the showers early mornings as the tanking system used apparently has had a fault for some time with no or very little water pressure. With Starwood itself there was an issue with the main toilet. We were unable to flush. The owner was advised but he was unable to arrange a fix. As this was an issue I was forced to undertake a repair. It wasn't difficult but not what I was looking to do. In addition the outside space could do with a bit of care and attention as it wasn't really condusive for outside entertainment, and I believe the site has banned the use of BBQ,s. Finally a little more attention to the general cleaning of the cabin would not go amiss or cleaning under the beds as an example. Sorry to go on but the cabin has the potential to be excellent and we had a very good holiday. Regards Marguerite and Ken

I take my time to meet and greet guests to ensure they are happy with the place and to answer questions, all while having other commitments away from Starwood. Furthermore, I employ a cleaning company recommended to me by Sykes. This issue with cleanliness has been the only one out of many who were more than satisfied. With regard to outside entertainment, it is privately enclosed and the vast majority of people enjoy that to get away from stresses at home. My hands are tied with anything deemed a fire risk as that's park policy. Guests are duly told that upon arrival. Water has been an issue on the park and I opened a case file, where I was willing to relocate them and lose money doing so, and cancel the next booking who was a repeat client. The client then informed me they had water, so relocation was not required, nor was cancelling the next booking. The main toilet was not flushing but the client mentioned that others with them could use the ensuite toilet. It's a shame I have this review because the guests were very understanding at the time.
