What guests are saying
Lovely house plenty of room the only issue was a personal one.
The open plan and high ceilings which we loved, meant that it was quite noisy with three young children.
We stayed here with some friends over the Bank Holiday weekend and we had the best time.
Lovely home with excellent views of Bamburgh Castle from the bedroom. We had sheep and cows in the fields next to us which the children loved. We would highly recommend this property.
Thank you so much for your kind review. I’m very glad that you had such a happy time staying in Cowslip. I hope we will see you again.
A beautiful holiday home in a stunning area.
Everything you could need is provided. Spacious, clean, comfortable & stunning view of bambrugh castle. The welcome pack is a lovely thought & much appreciated. Well located for visiting all of Northumberland & Scottish Borders. Would highly recommend & stay again.
Thanks so much for a lovely review. And taking the time to write it. It is very much appreciated. I hope we will see you again.
Lovely property , feels airy and spacious .
Location is very good with some decent walks from the doorstep . I would recommend staying here .
We had a lovely time staying at Cowslip over the New Year.
The location was great and only a short drive in to Bamburgh! The house was well equipped and had everything we needed! We had an issue with the shower while we were there and Rachel sorted this out within a few hours even though it was New Years Eve! Thank you again, we would defo recommend staying at Cowslip.
Thank you very much for your review. I was a surprised as anyone to find our Plumber coming out on New Year’s Eve but a happy outcome nonetheless. I hope we will see you again soon.
What a fantastic place !
It certainly has the ‘wow’ factor. We spent Christmas here and had the best time as a family. The place was very clean, the beds were so comfy and it made our Christmas very special. The owner came around to check that everything ok and they had also left us some nice little gifts. We took our dog and although there isn’t a fenced off area for you to let them off, it was fine we just put a lead on him when he went out to do his business and then went on some amazing beach walks. Very near the beautiful Bamburgh where we visited the castle, I suppose it would be around a 20 min walk, but not really walkable at night as it is pitch black ! The views from the lodge were beautiful and you can see the castle. I literally think that the only thing that could find wrong was that there was no measuring jug
Thank you very much for your wonderful feedback, it is very much appreciated. There certainly used to be measuring jugs but they must have disappeared . I shall replace them immediately . I hope we will be able to welcome you back again sometime. Thanks again
Wonderful stay, the house is absolutely beautiful with the most incredible views.
Our little boy loved the bunk beds as well.
Thank you very much for your wonderful feedback,it is always very much appreciated. I hope you will come and stay another time Kindest regards Rachel
Lovely stay at this property.
Wonderful location and the property felt very dog friendly. Will definitely return and will recommend to others .
Thank you very much for your kind feedback . We look forward to welcoming you again
The only issue I had with the property, the outside furniture could do with a wipe over and get rid of the cobwebs on the outside furniture.
Other than that had a lovely stay, very quiet location and weather was fab.
Dear Mrs Moses Thank you very much for your feedback , we have taken on your concerns and both issues have been addressed . I hope you will come and stay with us again Kindest regards Rachel
The accommodation is perfectly fine, and as listed, however I don't think the price with such a late check-in and early check-out is justifiable.
For a weekend stay it equates to >£20/hr, which I'd expect in the centre of Bamburgh, but not 2 miles away!
Dear Mr McDermott, thank you for your feedback and I respect the point you are making .The challenge we face from a turnover point of view is fitting it into a seven days a week schedule and inevitably that needs at least a six hour window to ensure our team can deliver a good standard . . I do hope you will come back and stay in the lodge another time . Kindest regards Rachel
I have stayed in different lodges at Brada Quarry previously, the location & the spec of the lodges are amazing.
I have to say we were a little disappointed that the log burning stove has been removed at Cowslip for a terrible looking electrical one which didn’t work, the pictures need to be updated regarding this.
Dear Mr. Marshall, Thank you very much for your feedback which is always appreciated. By way of explanation, if I could just explain our reasons for removing the existing woodburning stove. One of the significant features was the issue with fire safety, we had occasions where nappies were burnt on the stove which was pretty unpleasant, we had a small incident where a child burnt their fingers touching it and we also had issues with wood delivery which was unsatisfactory for our incoming guests. A decision was made to replace it with what I considered a suitable alternative. The whole house is heated by Electric oil filled wall radiators and underfloor heating so the visual impact of the wood burner was originally considered to be outweighed by the replacement. I am sorry to hear that you considered it Terrible ,. please be reassured that new photographs are being planned for the updated version of our Sykes marketing. I do hope that you will consider staying with us again. Kindest regards, Rachel
Absolutely gorgeous setting with a view to the castle.
Overall we were really delighted with the lodge however there were a few niggles which others have picked up on in other reviews but don't look like they've been addressed. It's a great size overall but the beds don't appear to be king size as advertised, one of the bunks mattresses was truly awful - you could feel every single spring, some of the towels were stained, lack of hanging storage in the bunk room and main bedroom, the long handle sweeping brush needs replaced, it was damaged and you could easily cut yourself on it, the welcome guide mentioned using coasters but there were none, and the outdoor seating cushions were stained. I think if you're paying a couple of thousand for a weeks holiday in a "luxury lodge" there shouldn't be anything to pick up on. Having said that though we did have a lovely stay, I only mention the above as they ought to be addressed.
It’s a lovely place to stay with a very relaxed feel and stunning views.
Would love to stay again.
The lodge was filthy, including the linen, towels and scatter cushions (some of which are actually on the beds).
The floor was dirty, and left the soles of feet/socks black. There are lot of cobwebs in the high ceilings. I had to clean the kitchen worktops before use as they were covered in a white substance. Some of the pans in the cupboard were also dirty. The windows are so dirty it's difficult to appreciate the views through them. There is also mould in the bathrooms. This is in addition to the unacceptable level of dust and grime found pretty much everywhere else. Added to this is the general state of repair of the lodge. The paintwork is very noticeably chipped/scuffed/dirty in all rooms. Some windows didn't open. The longer curtains were stained/mouldy at the bottom. Unfortunately there are no cup coasters, so trying to protect furniture is difficult, despite the strict instructions in the file. There was no welcome pack, in fact there wasn't even a single toilet roll in the whole lodge, but thankfully we had the foresight to bring some. We also had to find the black bin which had been abandoned at the other side of the park. The previous occupants appear to have used the recycling bin for general waste as a result. To say we are disappointed, especially with the price paid is an understatement. I contacted the owner with the issues and photographic evidence, and requested some form of compensation for the time and effort it took to clean the lodge and launder the towels/linen. As you can imagine this was met with silence. Spend your money elsewhere. Holiday ruined.
Dear Mrs Richard’s I am very sorry you have felt the need to leave this feedback and as I said to you when you messaged me on Sunday morning I would immediately take it up with our new cleaning company. Which I did and when I offered to come and try to sort out at least some of the issues like loo roll ,cushions , towels and linen you declined as you were out all day. Only 5 days before your arrival the lodge had been deep cleaned by the new cleaning company ,the windows had been washed ,(we also have a window cleaner contracted once a month to do the outsides) cobwebs vacuumed , floors scrubbed , kitchen and bathrooms cleaned so I m not sure why there would be any dust /grime or dirty floors and I had obviously hoped everything would be perfect for your stay . The welcome pack and loo roll issue was ,as I explained to you in my message back a human error of miscommunication but you should not have been left without either . We are having new curtains made as the watermarks are not coming out, I have checked all windows and they all open and the cushions are being replaced . You will appreciate this is a holiday property and as such it does come in for a lot of use . The bins are managed by the site management company and sometimes take a day or two to find there way home ,I am not sure why there was a problem when you were staying . The lodge-was redecorated in March in anticipation of the new holiday season . Once again please accept my apologies ,I do hope your holiday in Beautiful Bamburgh was not ruined by these issues . We try very hard to create a happy holiday home and I take any dissatisfaction personally .
Big let down, mouldy dishes left in dishwasher, shower filthy, pans unusable, no cook ware and when we complained on the day nothing was done to resolve it.
If you are using both sets of bunkbeds be careful as one is dangerously unsteady
unfortunately we had to cut our stay short due to illness but the venue istop class, we will return later in year without doubt.
suggestions:- exchange tall drawers in large bedroom for small wardrobe, fit a unit in shower room to hold soaps etc. food basket and wine was a very nice touch. thank you
A truly wonderful property in the midst of the most beautiful back drop, sheep and cows grazing with the majestic Bamburgh Castle in the distance.
We did not want to leave and do hope to be back!
Beautiful property just as described in the listing.
All the home comforts and cosy and warm. Lovely quiet location and near to all amenities. Would highly recommend and come back again.
Lovely location and well presented accommodation.
Lack of a wardrobe in the master and limited clothing storage in the children's room is an issue. Not much storage in kitchen for food. The flat floors was great for elderly guests but the step up to the entrance was high. Simple addition of small ramp or half step would make it perfect for those with limited mobility.
Great property, views were fantastic.
Clean comfortable and modern. Location offers fantastic views being idilic and relaxing within an simple drive into bambrugh. Although dog friendly there isn't many routes to walk them nearby at least not known by visitors. Might be useful to have a map of walking routes nearby as unsure if local fields had walking routes and wouldn't use roads as far to narrow. An outdoor jacuzzi would benefit the property allowing the experience of the nights sky's in the warmth. Really good property and will be back.
Lovely lodge, however a few things took the edge off the self described ‘luxury lodge’ tittle and price.
Mould in both bathrooms. Cushion covers and curtains all need washing (or replacing as damaged), a little grotty and stained. Quite a lot of cobwebs too. A few tweaks and it would definitely be luxury :) All that said, we had a great stay! Great location, very peaceful.
We really enjoyed the light airy lodge.
The position of Cowslip lodge with the view of Bamburgh Castle was great. The lodge was well equipped .My only criticism was that the mattresses on the beds need to be double the thickness to give one a more comfortable night's sleep.Thankyou.
We had a lovely and relaxing stay at cowslip Lodge.
The house is very nicely decorated and encourages relaxation which we were happy to go along with. The surroundings are lovely too and it's only a short drive into Bamburgh so it's not too far off the beaten track. I would recommend blinds are fitted to the higher uo windows as it's difficult to see the t.v when the sun is blazing in! Stunning though & we will most definitely be back!
This is a lovely property and works really well for families.
The facilities were clean and tidy, and a comfy cot was provided on request. My kids absolutely loved the cows and sheep who came to visit during the day! Although there are other lodges quite close by, the aspect of this one means you can look out the window and think you are in the middle of nowhere. Only minor annoyances were the drippy tap in the kitchen and the flush in the ensuite kept sticking. If these were rectified it would be a 10/10!
As we had to be out by ten in morning think not being able to get in until five is very late other than that great weekend.
Gorgeous lodge - with incredible views and the cows and sheep were an added bonus!
What a location! Everything was lovely in the lodge… some items perhaps needed a deeper clean. The oven tray we had to clean ourselves and the knife block needed a scrub, but it didn’t take away from the lodge as it was lovely. We would definitely book again if came back to this area.
Dear Anneka, thank you very much for your feedback, I’m glad you had a happy time. I have sent your feedback to the cleaning team who have assured me they will be more diligent going forward.
Superb accommodation great location.
Highly recommended
Really lovely stay the lodge was beautiful beds comfy only thing was to enclose the patio which we used the furniture to block our dog in other than that was a perfect stay loved it
This was our first holiday in Northumberland and what a holiday it was!
!!! The property was absolutely gorgeous, it had everything we needed and was in a fantastic location. We had one query about the bins but within an hour the owner, Rachel, rang and sorted the problem straight away. The only constructive critique I would give is that the outside walls an around the doors need brushing down as there were quite a few cobwebs. While we were there it was our grandaughters 3rd birthday and she had a lovely day. She loved the fact that the cows came down in a morning to say morning and came down to say goodnight at teatime
Cowslip lodge was situated in a perfect position, furnished out very nice, lovely furniture, beautiful views, nice accessories and a very sunny position all day, we were happy with the above comments.
However the main thing that let this lodge down for us was the hygiene / cleanliness, very bad in the bathroom and shower and toilets, mould and stains. These can be rectified with a thorough cleaning. There were stains on the single duvet and hairs. I spent a full afternoon cleaning the lodge, but not the mould areas just a spray. We would be more than happy to book this lodge again, if the cleanliness and hygiene is rectified. The response from the property owner was first class and a very nice person. Please rectify this for the next guests as it is important for such a lovely lodge. Dryden company very polite and quick with their response, nice gentlemen that came out to the lodge. We were offered a cleaner to come out to the lodge but this would have been too disturbing for our guests. The lodge would benefit greatly with a gate for dogs as other dogs wander in and spoil it , this is an important fixture for a dog friendly lodge. Other dogs wander around the lodge and leave their mess which we had to clear. We had a lovely time in Cowslip and we would gladly return should the above issues be rectified as I wouldnt want to come away and clean whilst on holiday. More relaxing with a gate for the dogs and to keep others out. Thank you to the owner of this fantastic lodge, who will be proud to own Cowslip
We had a lovely holiday at Cowslip Lodge.
It had everything we needed to make our stay a very comfortable one. The location had the the double benefits of peace and a great base to explore surrounding areas such as the beach and Seahouses.
Perfect location.
Very comfortable lodge which made for a very enjoyable holiday.
Lovely rural setting and great for dogs.
Quick and easy to get to lovely beaches and boat trips to the Farne Islands. Bit stingy with toilet paper but overall a great place to stay
Fabulous place.
Just as it looked on the photos. Brilliant time. Thank you.
Only problem was bin collection.
Although we were told it was on a Wednesday I had to enquire which bin and where to leave it. This info i obtained from another resident.
Had a fantastic time at this amazing place Fantastic views Fantastic place Host was super helpful My only thing that we could have done with is a little hoover/dustpan and brush with having dogs it would have really helped but didn’t put us off booking again soon Thank you
Great weekend spent in this really nice and modern Lodge great location for visiting the castle and beaches will be back
Lovely, quiet location.
Great view of Bamburgh castle too! Accomodation has all you need and we would definitely book Cowslip again.
The lodge was amazing best I've stayed in the UK.
Great lodge in amazing location.
Had everything we needed for a large family. Only thing we would have liked was the deck to have a gate & fence so our dog couldn’t get out. We knew it was open when booked but would have been nice to be able to keep the big doors open & not worry about the dog!
We had an amazing time at this property.
We have stayed at Brada Quarry last year in a different chalet and the location within the site of Cowslip was far superior with a great view of the Castle and fields, tucked away in a corner of the site, with a decking looking onto fields and very private, and also getting the sun for the vast majority of the day. The design of the building is sophisticated and light and roomy. Well equipped and well laid out. We loved it.
Overall a very good place for a holiday but we had a couple of niggles.
For a 3 bed house to only have one small wardrobe with only 6 coat hangers is not great if you expect people to stay for a week. Although all the soft furnishings were lovely you could really do with some blackout facilities over the bedroom windows. Everything else was great including a superb location Overall we had a great holiday and would happily recommend Cowslip to anyone
Fabulous, peaceful, immaculate, picturesque, well designed and planned, great walks, great views, everything you require and more.
We loved this lodge and had a fantastic break there - wish we had stayed longer. Will definitely go back. It was brilliantly equipped with everything from a whisk to iron and hair dryer - Thank you.
Fantastic stay at cowslip.
Good base for exploring the local area, quiet and well equipped.
Very good lodge in a lovely location and overall well equipped.
Cleanliness was okay but needs a bit more attention to detail - e.g. oven grill and wire racks were greasy/dirty, top of cooker extract not cleaned, cobwebs in those hard to reach places. Lodge needs a light at the side leading from car parking to the back door access; also could do with a toiletries rack in the shower - small stuff but detail counts
Thank you for your feedback. We have recognised that there was a traiining issue at this time due to the cleaning team being short staffed but this has since been addressed. We are glad you enjoyed your stay otherwise and appreciate your comments.
We really enjoyed the fabulous cottage and location The cottage is a brilliant design with open plan lounge and dinning areas The windows at high level allow natural day light to illuminate the rooms The bedrooms are great giving room for four adults and and four children The Cow Slip Cottage is the best site on the complex in our opinion as its at the end facing the fields towards the view of the castle This is light up at night creating a great spectacle Bamburgh is great spot to be with fantastic beaches all the way down to Sea Houses Bamburgh Castle is special Holy Island is nearby too Bamburgh Golf Course is one of the best scenic courses in the UK The club house is a great place too with top notch food with friendly staff Also fish and chips in Sea Houses is a real treat with fresh fish from the fishing harbour The beach is in our opinion the best in the UK with lovely sand stretching from Bamburgh Castle to Sea Houses With healthy sea walks and air while the brave swim or surf We would recommend it and would like to think we could go again sometime
We had a great week at Cowslip; we loved everything about this lodge.
The location is perfect, if you would like to explore the area you will need a car. The walk to Bamburgh is on a busy country lane. As this is pet friendly lodge the outside seating area was open and meant dogs were able to roam free as soon as the bi-fold doors/front door was opened. If there was some plastic/glass, around the decking area, this would allow dogs to be contained and we could enjoy the decking area without worry or concern.
Absolutely beautiful lodge very clean and tidy amazing views spent this weekend there for my 30th birthday can’t wait to visit again
It would be good to have a list of local walks.
There were walk books provided but most all were 15-20 miles away. It would be good to know where the locals walk.
The lodge was beautiful, on a lovely quiet site near Bamburgh and had everything we needed as a family of 5 and a dog.
We stayed in February and while the weather was cold we had lovely blustery walks on the beach at Ross Back Sands, Beadnell Bay, Budle Bay and Embleton. It was fantastic, we even saw Dolphins in the sea. While it was cold outside, the lodge itself was warm and cosy. The listing states there is a log burner. This is not true there is flame effect electric fan heater. While I missed the real fire you really don't need it for the heat, the electric radiators were much more efficient than I thought and we were very cosy. However you really should change the listing to be accurate. Another thing to mention was the bunk bed mattresses are very firm and the kids had to sleep on a duvet to be comfortable, I'm not sure anyone older then 12 would be comfortable on them. Our double bed was divinely comfy though! I'm sure we will be back.
The cottage was beautiful and exactly as described.
My only issue was I had to move some breakable things out of the reach of my kids. The building work on site caused minimal disruption and the the workman were all friendly and polite. Gorgeous area- will definitely come again
One of the most comfortable places we have ever stopped as a family!
Everything there that we needed to really settle in and relax along with stunning view! Excellent value for money
