After a journey to the Cabin, finding there wasn’t milk in the fridge to have a cuppa, trip to local shop,so no welcome pack, The cabin is in a lovely spot, transport needed, easy to access the Northumberland coast line, and close to cragside house, We had a problem with the shower drainage, potential flooding of bathroom floor, made contact with the owner regarding this issue, Was informed this had been a problem, and was told that there was a unblock substance, which I could not find, I purchased unblock solution whilst out ,and used Four applications over the next two days,No success in the clearing, so did without showers, Other than that a lovely cabin in a lovely spot, And yes I would go back when the opportunity arises.
Hi David thank you for your kind review, we’re sorry about the issues with the shower drainage, we did leave a bottle of unblocker in June when we were there, but can only assume someone used it and didn’t tell us. A family member has been in the last few days and said the drainage seems to be ok now so hopefully it will be. Hopefully all will be better on your next visit, look forward to welcoming you back soon Regarding the welcome pack, it’s something we’d love to provide but we are 250 miles away and we have nobody to do it for us I’m afraid
3rd time to Harbottle lodge still as lovely as first time loved it
Thank you so much for your lovely words, we’re so glad you love being there as much as we do. See you again soon
Lovely, well-equipped cabin, everything one could need including a comfy bed.
Setting in the park is very peaceful, a great base to explore Northumberland.
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. Hope to see you again soon
Location was perfect for peace and quiet.
Ideal for dark sky gazing. Decent circular footpath for dog walks (beware of cows). Accommodation ranged from a quirky front door that you had to lean against to pull open, to annoying gas hob where three of the gas jets refused to stay alight, a TV with an erratic signal and a bathroom sink where the plug was too big so that a bowl of water disappeared before you had finished and then complete shock when on stripping the bed before departure to find a mattress protector badly marked with bodily stains!
Sorry to hear that you had difficulties during your stay. We would have been more than happy to have tried to help you had you called us. We will get the cleaners to investigate the mattress protector and change it
We had a fantastic stay at Harbottle Lodge.
Well equipped kitchen with everything we needed to be able to cook our meals. Our hosts provided great instructions for us. It's on a lovely peaceful park. With lots to see a short car drive away
Thank you so much for your kind words, we really appreciate it and hope that you will return again soon
Lovely, central location for travelling to and from the lodge which is situated in a tranquil setting.
It is cosy, warm and well equipped with everything that is needed for a comfortable stay. We loved every moment of our stay here.
Thank you so much for your kind words, it really means a lot to us. We hope you will come back again to Harbottle Lodge, you’re very welcome
This is our second time this year in Harbottle lodge had a great time once again x
Thank you so much, we’re so glad you love Harbottle as much as we do and hope to see you again soon
Harbottle Lodge was perfect for our 5 night break away, with family in Wooler it was an easy journey to catch up with them.
It is set in a lovely quiet park, the lodge was very comfortable & well equipped. A small welcome pack would be nice eg tea, coffee & milk just to tide over before doing a shop.
Thank you for your lovely comments, we’re so glad you enjoyed your stay. We’d love to do welcome packs but unfortunately we’re 250 miles away and we have no one that will do it for us, sorry about that
First time visiting the cabin and when we arrived I was very impressed with what I walk into so nice all u need to take is food and yourself everything u need is in the cabin clean and if u a sun lover it's place is a suntrap .
Very ideal for visiting places around u. Village inn pub food beautiful Village shop helpful Just booked to go back
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback!
We returned to Harbottle lodge for a second year.
The cabin is a great base for exploring the beautiful Northumberland area. The cabin has a very well equipped kitchen for cooking our meals. The Bed was very comfortable and the new shower was so much easier to use with excellent supply of Very hot water .Easy to use heating system. The village is a very quiet friendly place .We visited the local Village Inn for occasional meals and drinks which was also very welcoming.
Thank you so much for your kind review, we’re so glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you again soon
Site itself is not pretty (despite being listed as such), it is very tired & in need of a tidy and brightening up.
The pot holes in the drive also need attention. The lodge itself was comfy, with good clean kitchen, good working shower and comfortable bed. However, the general cleanliness let it down and I felt I had booked prior to the season's 'spring clean'. The dust and filth under and behind the sofa was awful (I only found this as a dog toy got lost under the sofa), this obviously hadn't been swept/cleaned in a long time ! All the windows were filthy, with cobwebs in between the two units (they are also a weird design as they open inwards, so beware as they get in the way a lot). Decking hadn't been swept, outside table was dirty. All these things let it down as the park is in a great location to visit all the great areas in Northumberland like Bamburgh, Embleton, Alnmouth, Whitley Bay with very little travel time. Despite being a dog friendly lodge, there was no information about local dog walks or walks from the park. No welcome pack, not even a pint of milk. These little things (& a good thorough clean) would have made all the difference.
Hi Karen, thank you for your review, although it’s disappointing that some things let it down for you. Obviously the sofa doesn’t normally need to be moved and will collect more dust behind it than other areas but we will talk to our cleaners and ask them to be more thorough. We only have that one cabin and we can’t do anything about the site itself, but the site owners are trying to improve the potholes. I’m glad you found the cabin itself to be clean and comfortable overall though and maybe things will be better if you visit again in the future. We take on board your comments
Fantastic cabin.
So comfortable and will be booking again in the future. Very well equipped simple things like tea towels, washing up liquid and welcome pack with coffee, tea and biscuits provided, which is needed after a long drive. Thank you Wanda and Roger.
Thank you so much for your kind review Jane, we’re so pleased that you had such a good experience in our lovely cabin. We hope to see you again soon!
Hot water was a problem for the shower particularly, solved by running other taps unnecessarily to fire the boiler, which seems to need a service.
We expect a freezer compartment in the fridge. The kettle handle seemed loose and potentially dangerous. In this day and age, a non-electric kettle is outside most peoples' experience. It was also heavy and difficult to handle when full. A non-slip mat for the shower would be good. Although there is a launderette on site, there were no instructions as to how to use it, how much it cost etc. There was no obvious point of contact on site for any problems
Hi Mary, I’m sorry you were disappointed with your stay. We think the boiler issue has now been fixed, thankfully. Thank you for your other suggestions as well. We will look into them
This lodge is ideally situated for touring the surrounding areas.
It is clean quiet and on a small select and friendly site. All necessary equipment is included for your stay.
Thank you so much for your kind words, we really try our best to make Harbottle a cosy place to stay. We do hope you will stay with us again in the future
The chalet was very well equipped and clean.
However the outside area for all the chalets was not in good condition and looked very tired and scruffy.
I’m glad you were pleased with our cabin and hope you enjoyed your stay in it, unfortunately we only own Harbottle Lodge and not the whole site. The site owners have only taken over recently and are making improvements.
Lovely little Gem of a cabin very well equipped for all your needs we couldn't have asked for more.
Great value for money. Great peaceful relaxing setting and Great base for exploring the Northumberland regions. Longframglinton is a very small village with limited amenities so you need to stock up on supplies from the larger villages as the londis is quite small but you can get all the basics. The Village Inn is a lovely welcoming pub so became a regular place to visit during our stay. Would definitely return again .
Thank you so much for your lovely review, we’re so pleased that you loved our little cabin and had a great holiday. We hope to be welcoming you back soon
A nice lodge on a nice quiet lodge park.
Thank you for your lovely review. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon!
Fantastic cabin on a lovely little site.
Really cosy with modern facilities, fully furnished with everything you might need away from home. We had a lovely time. Only negative was, despite following the instructions, we couldn't get the shower hot. Would highly recommend the site and the cabin to others.
Thank you for your lovely review and I’m sorry if you had problems with the shower, the water pressure does drop sometimes unfortunately. We are fitting a new shower and enclosure in May so hopefully that will improve things. Hope you will visit again in the future
Hi.
Omg what a cosy little quaint log cabin
Didn't realise this chalet was on a complex - from the picture thought we would be fairly isolated.
On directions there is no signpost to Swarland - but there is a sign to Log Cabins. Lovely kitchen and great bed but struggled with the combi boiler water heating system. Front door & handle is a problem but I guess the owner knows this. Lots of thoughtful touches but we think this chalet needs a bit of a makeover. The one next door looked better. Hope these comments help.
Harbottle lodge is in a fantastic location for local attractions.
Situated on a lovely peaceful setting , kitchen is fully equipped . Kitchen was lovely and clean l feel sitting area and bathroom could be better. Very relaxing
Thanks for your review, we’re glad you enjoyed your stay. We’ve been improving things gradually as we go along and will continue to do so. Hope to see you again
The pull out bed for the child could do with changing, not really comfortable to sleep on
What a beautiful wee holiday cabin!
We had a fabulous time, staying at Harbottle Lodge for three nights. Our daughter Beatrice says it is the best holiday she has been on so far. The cabin is very comfortable, cosy, and easily sleeps 3. The kitchen looks brand new and had everything we needed. Great shower! Nice little patio furniture set out the front. You wouldn’t even know there were other cabins nearby, it is such a quiet location. There’s a laundrette behind the cabin if needed, although we didn’t go to find it. And a small play area for the kids. There’s also a bigger play ground in the village, which our daughter loved. There is a lovely little farm shop down the road, which stocks cheese, meat and a few other provisions. They also serve tea and coffee. We would also recommend The Running Fox tearoom in the village - superb breakfast! (book ahead, though). Mrs Gabb, the owner of the cabin, was excellent and we spoke on the phone ahead of arrival. We knew all we needed to know in advance of staying. I could sit here all day and write this review. Honestly, give the place a try. It’s 10/10 from us. Thank you. Definitely coming back!
Thank you so much for your kind words, I’m so glad you love it as much as we do! We’ll take that as a big compliment if it’s Beatrice’s best holiday! We look forward to welcoming you back soon, all the best
Nice well equiped cabin .
No issues whatsoever and helpful owner available to help if needed. Great location close to village with 2 pubs serving food and next to farm shop selling organic produce. Terrific location with coastal villages nearby as well as Cragside NT property and many scenic walks in area. Recommended for couples .
Thank you so much for your kind review. Hope to see you again soon
Comfortable stay in a well-equipped cabin with plenty of local walks and within a short drive of the coast.
Thanks for your feedback, it's very much appreciated. Hope you stay with us again soon
Hot water system problematic at times.
I think the system needs topping up as the pressure gauge was showing a below normal pressure.
Hi, sorry to hear you had problems with the hot water, we’d have been more than happy to get someone to take a look at it if you’d have called us. It may well be the water pressure, as you say. Hope it didn’t spoil your stay and that you’ll stay with us again in the future
Nice quiet location, warm, comfortable, clean and dog friendly.
We really enjoyed our stay and would like to come back again. Thank you
Thank you so much for your kind words. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon
Wonderful property close to all the major tourist attractions but hidden away enough to feel really secluded.
Lovely play area for children and amazing views of the hills. The lodge is so comfortable and clean. We would definitely stay again.
Thank you so much for your lovely review, we’d love to see you back again at Harbottle one day soon
We holidayed at Harbottle Lodge for two weeks from 6 July 2022.
I’ve given it 2 stars because the shower was excellent and the bed was comfortable. Unfortunately, apart from that, the standard of this property was very low: When we arrived we could get no hot water from the taps, only from the shower. We phoned the owner about this and found out that the hot tap had to be turned on full, splashing everything around the sink including us and eventually hot water would appear but you couldn’t turn down the volume or it went cold again. The owner arranged for a plumber to call and he fiddled with the very ancient boiler but the problem didn’t improve. There was very little storage space for clothes and we had to bring a lot because we were staying for 2 weeks and we knew there was no washing machine and previous reviews had stated that the on-site laundry was not very effective. There was no wardrobe but just a short rail in the hall above all the cleaning materials and bucket and all the drawers on one of the bedside tables stuck and were unusable. The settee was uncomfortable and gave us both back-ache, although we shifted cushions around many times in an attempt to improve it. However, the bed was very comfortable. We had to open the windows because we had some hot weather but they’re such a peculiar design that the slightest breeze made them move about or slam shut. Their frames were also very dirty and bits of dirt and cobwebs fell from them. The carpets were very stained and were sticky to the touch, especially the rug in the main room. The bathroom was fine apart from the lack of hot water from the taps and a heated towel rack would have been nice. However, the shower was excellent. The photos give the impression of a light and airy interior. This was not the case; it was gloomy and we needed a light on all the time. I’ve seen a response from the owner to a review in June, where the owner stated that they had resolved the hot water, cleaning and carpet problems but this was not the case when we arrived on 6 July. We did not phone them about the issues we had, apart from the hot water issue, because there was nothing they could have done about the furniture, the cleaning or the lack of storage space for our clothes. We’ve stayed in many self-catering cottages and I’ve never given a bad review before. I suppose the cheap price of the property should have made us wary when we booked it but even so, we were very disappointed. However cheap, we expected a certain level of comfort, cleanliness and facilities.
We spoke to you initially about the problem with the hot water and arranged for a plumber to call as soon as possible, but despite calling and texting numerous times, you did not reply to us and so we had to assume that the boiler had been fixed, especially as the plumber told us it was fixed. We would happily have got the plumber out again if it was still a problem and unfortunately we are 250 miles away so we are very reliant on communication from guests and tradespeople. We have been to the cabin ourselves this week and a different plumber came out and fixed the hot water, so we apologise that it was not actually fixed properly whilst you were there. We are genuinely disappointed at your comments concerning the cleanliness and comfort of the property. We have an excellent local cleaner who does a very thorough job and always reports any issues to us. We have bought high quality furniture and the vast majority of our guests say how comfortable the cabin is, but its not possible to cater for every taste. It is a small cabin, so its difficult to provide more storage facilities for clothes, but we've found the walk in wardrobe area is adequate for most guests, including ourselves when we stay there. It is sad for us to hear that you did not enjoy your stay and we wish that we had been able to address some of your issues whilst you were there. This is our only property and we try our best to maintain a high standard for our guests.
I have already sent a complaint to yourself and the owner alas a complete waste of time.
Lodge was not as advertised in your pictures hence we were very disappointed as I had booked the holiday as a surprise present for my partner. The lodge was not cleaned to an acceptable standard, left over opened packets of food left in an uncleaned cupboard, heavily stained carpets and furniture in desperate need of replacement.Hot water was very temperamental and the bathroom sink leaked water out before we could wash. All in all a very disappointing lodge, expected better for the price paid especially as I booked it through yourselves.
Thank you for your feedback The cleaning protocols have now been changed with our new cleaner We can confirm the water temperature has been checked by a plumber and has been resolved and we have checked the carpet and have had it cleaned and we can confirm that the plug in the basin is a standard size. The furniture in the property is of good standard, although we do have to allow for some minor wear and tear as the season goes on, with having a booking every week due to the property being so popular as can be seen by ou recent fabulous reviews. We do give out our contact number pre arrival and offer two contact numbers in our welcome pack. Sykes Cottages also have a dedicated helpline for guests. We would of course have assisted immediately if we had known during your stay of any concerns and we are sorry you did not give us chance to do so.
great cabin, clean well looked after site, everything that is needed for a short stay, comfortable, great location and good communication with the owners.
We would thoroughly recommend this holiday let
Thank you so much for your lovely review! We very much appreciate the top scores you gave including cleanliness and comfort and we hope to see you again in the future
Lovely homely cabin offering comfortable stay.
Thoughtful extra goodies where lovely touch. Access road a bit bumpy but didn't spoil stay. Would stay again.
Thank you so much for your lovely review, we’re so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We wish we could do something about the access road, but unfortunately it’s not within our power, however we will raise it with the park owners. See you again soon hopefully and thank you for the top scores including for cleanliness and comfort,
A perfect rural retreat on a quiet complex of wood cabin lodges providing an excellent base from which to explore the wonderful Northumbrian coastline.
The cabin is well equipped and provided an ideal comfortable base to return to after long days walking the Northumbrian coast. Nowhere is too far away (the furthest I travelled was 45 minutes to visit Holy Island) and there are superb quiet sandy beaches 25 minutes away at Alnwick and Warkworth. The welcome pack on arrival (Tea, Milk, Bread, Butter, OJ and biscuits) was much appreciated.
Our stay at Harbottle cabin was lovely.
The cabin is located in a small cabin park called Fram park. There are only 14 cabins on site, so it’s very cosy. The atmosphere is relaxed and family and dog friendly. It’s not a party place. If you would like to stay here, you need to understand it’s a cabin in the countryside. Although the modern comforts are there, they are more basic than for example in a cottage. The only thing we really missed was a washing machine in the cabin, as the one in the park is quite expensive and doesn’t do the job properly. I would also request the cleaner to do a spring/deep clean, with attention to detail (inside of the double windows/outside of windows/corners of cabin/deep clean oven). All in all it was an amazing stay, the owners were helpful when we had a rubbish/flytip issue. We left the cabin totally relaxed. If you truly want to switch off for a few days, this is the place to be.
Loved our stay just when we first arrived the cabin smelt a bit foisty but once we are it it was okay had everything you needed for your stay and would defo stay again
This property was Not upto standard we expected.
Issues with cleanliness of bed linen, stained carpet trouble turning on and off taps on sink and trouble with front door sticking. Would not go back or recommend this place.
We are so sorry that you were unhappy with the lodge and felt the need to depart earlier than planned. The property owner would have gladly addressed any issues you had during your stay, although they were not made aware of any of the issues until you had checked out of the lodge.
We had a lovely 3 nights stay in this lodge.
It had everything you needed. Bed was very comfortable. We also went to the local pub called the Village Inn which had a lovely food.
Fantastic week in Northumberland, Harbottle Lodge was perfect clean, cosy, comfy bed and in a great location to explore the amazing coastline
A comfortable, well equipped cabin.
Lovely and warm too. Good location to visit the sights of Northumberland.
A fantastic, comfortable base for exploring beautiful Northumberland.
Lovely lodge with everything you could need.
Great location. Would definitely return.
Lovely, cosy well appointed lodge on a quiet site in a nice village which is pretty much central to most sightseeing places, beaches etc.
, and you could even pop to Edinburgh on the train from Morpeth. We took the park and ride into Newcastle at Great Park which was reasonably priced and took us into the centre. The return bus is stand R in the bus station. There is a play area and laundry facilities on site and bin day is on a Friday (which we hadn’t realised until too late!)
The lodge owner was very responsive and helpful.
All instructions about the lodge were very clear and the facilities were good.
We visited last year and were disappointed with the condition of the property.
The kitchen sink needed replacing, one of the kitchen draws was broken and in general it needed bringing up to an acceptable standard for letting. On arrival the dustbin was not only full but overflowing and I’m not sure there was a dustbin per Lodge. The setting was good but this Lodge was not as nicely presented as the one next door which had obviously been refurbished. I’m sorry but would not recommend unless the owners have refurbished.
Cosy comfortable chalet with all amenities to hand, excellent location for visiting the countryside & coast.
What a fabulous cabin with all the home comforts.
Cannot say enough about the place it was just great. We wanted a quiet week away with the dogs and that's what we got. All the villages nearby are friendly and love dogs. It was just heaven not having to worry about them. Not detracting from the cabin it had everything and more. Would love to visit again
We really enjoyed our stay at Harbottle Lodge and managed to see everything we had planned to and more.
The accommodation was very comfortable.
The cottage was in a great location and very private.
Good facilities and good communication with the owners when required. Would definitely book again.
The lodge was perfect in every way, peaceful, near to all areas, an ideal base for seeing Northumberland, We would definitely recommend the lodge, it has everything you need for a wonderful holiday.
Very comfortable accommodation and ideal location for visiting the beautiful Northumberland coast & countryside
Yes.
I was unable to lock the cabin door due to a very strange lock so was having to leave it unlocked whenever I went out. A male holiday maker over from Ireland came to help me on the THURSDAY but also gave up. I finally managed to lock it when leaving but have no idea how I did it. Everything was satisfactory.
We have never taken our dog with us on holiday before so this was a new experience for all three of us!
! We loved the area and will probably return in the future, The cottage was ideal for what we wanted and offered all that we needed.
Very helpful owner
Lovely relaxing lodge, in beautiful surroundings .
Well equipped with everything you could ever need . Highly recommended.
I needed a break and some peace and quiet.
I found all three here!
No internet in property, so if you want that you'll have to use your phone's data.
BUT: poor coverage in the area where the cabin is. Using our devices we found the signal to be as follows: EE: 3G, 1 bar O2: 3g, 2 bars (south side of cabin, 1 bar elsewhere or EDGE) Three: 4g, 3 bars Vodafone: unknown. So if you're planning on tethering or accessing the internet in the cabin at all, I'd strongly recommend a Three sim with all-you-can-eat data, in a phone or ipad you can tether from. Failing that, O2 is a good backup. The annoying thing is, just a few more metres south (i.e. still in Fram Park) I was getting 4G with O2! Of course if you want to disconnect from the web completely then this is the cabin for you. It was truly lovely inside.
great cabin, good location, nice and peacfull overall brilliant
Very good property - with everything thought about and considered.
First shower we had encountered on holiday which was safe enough for my elderly mother to use without assistance with easy taps and a non slippy floor, and doors which are easily operated. Variety of pans and cooking utensils - we cooked happily in the knowledge that everything was there. Minor point - the kitchen taps were a bit stiff! Sofa bed 'not suitable for adults' apparently - so I did not use it..not sure why. There is a green bin so I put recycling in there and had to ask about other waste. It transpires that it all goes in the green bin! - a note to this effect might be useful. There is a local mini spa which might worth advertising Both local pubs had excellent and well priced food. Gem of a local village store as well. Longframlington was an ace 'shot in the dark' for us looking for somewhere well positioned for things to do. I feel the property could be 'pushed' a bit more in terms of singing its location praises - as well as its own facilities.
Very well equipped holiday lodge, clean & comfy.
More up to date leaflets please, and as we had dogs could have done with local dog walks We did not really find them until later in the week, such as a lovely walk along the river coquet at rothbury.
however we had a lovely time.
Very quiet and relaxing, lots of things to see and do but a bit spread out
Very comfortable cabin.
The owners had thought of everything in our opinion. There was even seed to put in the bird feeder on the window! Great holiday.
Reported leaking roof end of first week, still waiting on someone coming to look at it.
Apart from general update of furniture and kitchen equipment, which is in the progress of being done we enjoyed the relaxation.
