About the location
ROCESTER
Alton Towers 5 miles; Uttoxeter 5 miles; Ashbourne 10 miles.
A pretty little village, Rocester lies on the Derbyshire and Staffordshire border, located on a triangle of land between the River Churnet and River Dove. The site of a Roman fort exists today and the village was also mentioned in the Domesday Book. Rocester is home to the famous JCB factory, and the company has landscaped the surrounding area to provide some wonderful walks with some interesting sculptures around the site and the nearby parkland. Most significant of these is The Fossor, which is made entirely of digger parts and is a powerful representation of JCB. Rocester is halfway along the Staffordshire Way which runs the length of Staffordshire and is also at the start of the Limestone Way which goes to Matlock. Close to Rocester is the lovely market town of Ashbourne, and just a short drive away is Alton Towers, with fun for all the family. Explore either the Staffordshire or Derbyshire part of the Peak District National Park with historic houses, market towns, moorland, rolling hills and valleys, all easily accessible from Rocester.
