Hops Cottage

The cottage was lovely and just what we needed while visiting my Nanna who lives in the Village, I would stay here again when visiting.

But the directions and the address/link to directions needs to be corrected. When you put in the address and/or click on the directions link, it takes you to different places each time and at one point told us to go up Derby road for about 2 miles away from where the cottage is. The directions kept changing and never took us anywhere near the cottage so the description about the roundabout didn't really help. I would advise making reference to the Cavendish Arms pub up the street so it's easier to understand which roundabout. Once we got to the village, it took us over an hour to find it, we had to ask a local lady who recognized the photo of the cottage and could tell us which roundabout. Otherwise, this is a great and comfortable cottage (other than perhaps adding a washing machine that would be helpful when staying for a longer period). Thanks

Nice cosy cottage in a good location for accessing the Peak district, with a good pub within a very short walk.

Only downside was the road noise from the A50 which is in close proximity.

The cottage itself was lovely, with a nice large garden.

Kitchen was well equipped and nice beds. It could be improved with a washing machine as others have mentioned. Was great as a base to visit lots of family friendly places within a 30-45 min car journey. However, the direct neighbours are incredibly noisy - playing music / talking loudly / swearing etc in the late afternoons until gone 2am on 3 out of the 7 nights and making a lot of noise at gone midnight on the other nights. This totally ruined our evenings and sleep during the stay and kept waking both us and our toddler up. It was also very hot during our stay so we were unable to open the bedroom windows on the nights when the music was playing (shutting them did stifle the noise slightly but still totally unacceptable levels of music). On the nights that we were able to open the windows, you could hear the noise from the nearby busy A road. We are surprised that no feedback on the noise has been mentioned before (although there was one comment in the visitor book about it). We also discovered that you couldn’t contact the owners directly and all correspondence had to be made via Sykes which limits the timings this can be done / delays on responses. Sadly we won’t return.

Fabulous cottage with a beautiful garden, lovely walks nearby and a very friendly pub on the corner.

We had a fabulous weekend at the cottage.

We were out for a long walk on Saturday, then headed to the cottage that was toasty warm and spotlessly clean. Perfect for a cuppa while we unpacked. We strolled down to the Devonshire Arms who offered veggie and vegan options that were delicious. I'm told the beer was good too. Then back for cards games. We all slept well, had a relaxing morning, made brunch in the well stocked kitchen then a quick tidy up and home. It was perfect. Lovely and quiet, just what we wanted. Thank you!

Lovely cottage and peaceful location with a very good pub very close and local store also very close.

Uttoxeter is a 40 minute walk on a decent path.We would recommend staying here for all the local attractions.

Had our second stay at Hops Cottage and just as lovely as the first.

Super clean, has great facilities and is beautiful. We love it and am sure will be back again soon.

What a beautiful cottage.

. we loved the open fireplace and listening to the birds in the morning feasting on the bird table. Very comfortable bed and a modern bathroom with bath and shower. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful time at Hops Cottage, beautiful, welcoming and ultra clean.

The welcome biscuits and beer where a real treat thank you. A great base to explore the Peak district but we also really enjoyed just spending time at the cottage just relaxing in front of the log fire. Was a perfect stay for us and we will be back.

Such a lovely, cosy cottage!

My husband, brother, brother-in-law and I had to make last minute Christmas plans, and we could not have chosen a better place to spend our Christmas! The cottage was just as expected from the photos on the listing and even nicer once inside as the place was decorated for Christmas with little decorations here and there and a tree in the living. There was even a Christmas card and a box of chocolates awaiting our arrival, which was a very lovely touch indeed. The kitchen was so well equipped, we had no trouble preparing anything at all and we had lots of space to store things. The fridge was quite small, but for 4 people with rather large appetites for Christmas food that needs to be stored in the fridge, that's on us and our choice of foods really! The bathroom and bedrooms upstairs were very comfortable and spacious with good light and just as depicted in the photos. Two things I will say: We first arrived in the evening when it was very dark and found the cottage a bit tricky to locate, as the map shown for the location didn't match the written instructions we were sent. But we managed it and made it into the cottage in the end! The height of the doorways and the ceilings downstairs could be problematic for anyone that might be rather tall. 3 out of 4 of us are quite short so we had no trouble, but my brother (the tallest of the group, around 6ft) had to duck under the doorways throughout the cottage, but once in the rooms themselves he was just fine! Overall, it was a truly wonderful and very comfortable stay and we'd absolutely love to book again!

The cottage is perfect and a very nice pub up the road that serves excellent food .

Hops cottage was a lovely little stay, full of character and charm.

Loved the large garden and birdwatching. The house was clean and well equipped with a lovely welcome pack. Would recommend.

Cottage was cosy.

Weather was sunny so enjoyed the lovely secluded garden. Village is picturesque with a duck pond and church. Also nice walk into Uttoxeter by the river. Had a very restful week . Olive and Jim

We had a great here !

A really lovely house with a fab large private garden which was perfect for the kids. In a lovely quiet village with handy park, shop and pub which served great food. The house had everything we needed and was very comfy, clean and decorated lovely. There is literally loads to do within just 1/2 hr away ! x

We spent Christmas at Hops Cottage and loved it.

The comfortable beds, great kitchen equipment and cosy fire all added to the special few days we had at the cottage. Loved the big bath and really appreciated the festie decorations.

Beautiful little cottage in a quiet setting.

Very cosy. Small, but well-equipped kitchen and plenty of home comforts. Sofa wasn't quite as comfy as we'd have liked, but didn't spend much time on it! Perfect for a family holiday or for couples. The stone floors and fireplace were a bit of a hazard for our newly crawling little one though!

Absolutely stunning cottage.

Everything we needed and more. The whole week was lovely. Bedding, towels etc are of superb quality. We would definitely return.

Only thing I could say is the bowls were to small for 3 weetabix

A lovely property and being 5 foot 5 I didn't struggle but my husband did with some of the beams.

Lovely size garden but due to the maintenance and two large holes with bricks over we didn't use with our kids. Instead, we walked to the playground which is only around the corner. With not having much wardrobe space it would have been handy to have an iron. It would have been great to have a hairdryer too. But, neither of these were listed so I knew about this in advance. Not far from uttoxeter and well placed for lots of lovely days out as a family. Overall a lovely little cottage and would recommend to family and friends

Only two things I think could improve the cottage; ~ garden maintence ~ include washing machine We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, was a great base for exploring surrounding areas.

Our stay at the Hops Cottage was very relaxing.

A lot of peak district attractions are around an hour drive from the cottage so the location is quite good as a base stay. The cottage is very cosy and the garden is the highlight of it. We would like to add couple of suggestions : 1. The garden need a bit of Maintaince. 2. Having a washing machine in the cottage will really add value to it.

Sykes policy of window restrictors made it extremely difficult to ventilate the bedrooms.

We had a really lovely stay at Hops Cottage.

It was very well equipped and super clean. It was perfectly located for the exploring we wanted to do in the area, and of course for Alton Towers. We had to contact the owners once with an issue we encountered and they couldn’t have been more helpful. Thank you.

Cottage was beautiful and well equipped.

In a great location with lovely back garden for children to play in. There’s a good pub just along the road in walking distance and a short drive to shops.

We had difficulty in finding the cottage.

I think if the instructions were improved it would help. For instance, 'foot path' and 'set back from the road' Loved the large garden, and this was the ideal spot to explore with load of stuff to do within a 45 minute drive.
