“We had a fabulous weekend at the cottage.”

We were out for a long walk on Saturday, then headed to the cottage that was toasty warm and spotlessly clean. Perfect for a cuppa while we unpacked. We strolled down to the Devonshire Arms who offered veggie and vegan options that were delicious. I'm told the beer was good too. Then back for cards games. We all slept well, had a relaxing morning, made brunch in the well stocked kitchen then a quick tidy up and home. It was perfect. Lovely and quiet, just what we wanted. Thank you!

About the location

DOVERIDGE

Uttoxeter 3 miles; Ashbourne 12 miles.

The pretty little village of Doveridge lies within easy reach of the Peak District National Park. Doveridge, mentioned in the Domesday Book is nestled amongst beautiful countryside, offering great walking, and cycling paths and trails. St Cuthbert’s Church dates from before the 13th century and boasts a 1400-year-old yew tree which is supported on crutches and under which Robin Hood and Maid Marion were rumoured to have wed. Near the church flows the River Dove with its Victorian suspension footbridge. The village is situated just three miles from the bustling Staffordshire town of Uttoxeter with its larger array of amenities and racecourse. The NT Sudbury Hall and the Museum of Childhood is very close by and offers a fascinating insight into days gone by. The market town of Ashbourne is within driving distance with its eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys and quaint coaching inns and is something of a haven for antique hunters, boasting superb shops, as well as a variety of good pubs and restaurants. The Dove and Manifold Valleys and many other National Trust properties and places of interest are also nearby, and both Carsington Water, Blithfield Reservoir and Alton Towers are a scenic drive away, making this a wonderful location for relaxation and enjoyment all year round.
