Brilliant stay and great quality accommodation!

Hot tub was brilliant !

Had a lovely stay at Hen House, the basin in ensuite is only a hand wash basin not able to clean teeth or wash as shelf above too low tend to hit your head!

! The sofa in lounge very tired, also would be nice to have a arm chair as we tended to sit in a line not good for chatting. The kitchen lacked tumbler glasses for G and T only had plastic ! Apart form these issues the house was clean and beds comfortable a real bonus to have hot tub which we used each day :) Shame about the weather very wet!!! Hope to return in future.

The kitchen was under‑equipped, with no casserole dishes or a paring knife for preparing vegetables, and the fridge was too small and not clean.

There was no companion set for the log burner. The blinds were too small for the windows and doors. The wet room had an unpleasant smell, and the floor was a slipping hazard — we both slipped, which felt very unsafe. There were also no grab rails for guests who may be less able. The en‑suite had an unpleasant smell throughout the week, likely due to drainage problems, and there were bubbles appearing outside in the soakaway. This requires urgent attention as it may present health and safety concerns. The owners were very kind and accommodating, but the issues raised should be addressed promptly. We would appreciate feedback. It was an expensive stay, and the issues with the smells and safety concerns significantly affected the experience. We would not have stayed had we been aware of the problem beforehand. Overall, we were disappointed with the accommodation.

The Hen House is in a great location.

Close to all attractions such as the National Memorial Arboretum, Cannock Chase, Lichfield, Middleport Pottery etc. The hosts were welcoming and left welcome treats which were much appreciated. Would definitely stay again and a few little tweaks would help: An extra armchair so four adults could sit more comfortably, a sharp veg knife for those who want to eat in and the wet room drainage is not good. But this did not spoil our stay, and it is a lovely retreat for both humans and dogs.

We all really enjoyed our stay.

Very relaxing and comfortable. So quiet, possibly a bit remote for some, but we loved it. All the facilities in the lodge that you could need. I could actually move in permanently tomorrow.

We had a really enjoyable stay at the Hen House.

It is a lovely place, well decorated, maintained and spotless. The enclosed beautiful garden is an absolute winner, especially keeping our rescue dog secure! The surrounding areas are beautiful with lots of places to visit and to go to eat. The hot tub is superb, giving us much needed chilling out time. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Hen House as a place to stay and unwind .

Very relaxing holiday.

The only negative about the property is that it’s accommodation for 4 and 1 settee and a dinning table that sits 3 people. Having said that I enjoyed every minute of our stay.

The Hen House is a lovely place to stay.

It has all you need, including a hot tub! It was beautifully clean and very comfortable

This was the perfect location for a book club.

The cottage is beautifully decorated and brilliantly designed. The hot tub was large and comfortable for four people. The views were gorgeous and we saw a few owls on our final evening observing us from the tree overlooking the hot tub. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils. Martin was very helpful and friendly when he came to show us how to work the hot tub. Would definitely book again!

The holiday cottage is maintained to a good condition.

The property was warm and inviting with lots of helpful information provided. The hot tub is well maintained and is a large part of what makes the property appealing to our young family as we spent most afternoons in it after venturing out for a little fresh air in the morning - it would have been difficult to keep our five year old busy at the property without it! The owner is friendly and accommodating. We would like to return if given the chance.

An excellent property with great facilities.

Beautiful peaceful very clean, went for Xmas and loved every minute, hot tub was fab, love to go back in summer when it’s dry.

An absolutely lovely place to stay, peaceful and relaxing, and the hot tub was an added bonus.

I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

The beds were comfortable but much too high for small people or people with arthritis.

The sofa in the lounge was too low, for the same reasons and difficult to get up from. There were no other comfy chairs in the property, only 4 kitchen chairs. No chairs in the bedrooms. The cups and glasses were in a cupboard too high to reach and behind a board which made it difficult to get them out. There were also lots of flies about. Fly spray was provided but made no noticeable difference.

We had a lovely stay at the Hen House.

We loved the privacy the cottage gave us, the views over the fields and, of course, the hot tub. The prosecco was a nice touch, thank you. Hayley was great with communication in the lead up to and during our stay and it was nice that she met us when we arrived. We found the property smaller than we expected - the photos show a kitchen, dining area and a small living area but to get the furnitute like this, the sofa would need to be almost touching the opposite side. The table was folded down next to the side wall rather than behind the sofa as shown and the chairs didn't fit under it making g the already small space seem smaller. We were lucky with the weather and ate outside most days but if the weather had not been kind we would have had to rearrange the furniture to fold the table out to fit the 4 of us (2 children, 2 adults). This is not what we had hoped for so we just didn't use the table. This was disappointing. The second bedroom was also much smaller than we expected and a bit of a squeeze for the 2 children. We had our labrador with us too, and it just felt a bit cramped. Overall though, we had a pleasant stay. We would recommend the Wolesley Arms pub in Wolesley Bridge - great after a dog walk by the canal and the Shugborough estate in Cannock Chase. We also made the 50 minute trip to Ironbridge for the victoriana museum and that was doable. There were also lovely walks from the cottage and we took the dog round the fields at the back, where there is a little stream.

We stayed in both properties The Hen House and Hen House View as a family of 4 adults, 2 little children and a small dog.

This is a lovely, peaceful, countryside retreat within close proximity of shops and activities. Very private. Very comfortable beds, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Fridge is standard under the counter size but with Tescos and Morrisons not far away that’s not a problem. Fridge in Hen House View is bigger. The six of us ate comfortably in The Hen House on a rainy day. Martin offered to bring extra chairs but we didn’t need them. Good BBQ which was adequate size for all of us and we enjoyed the food we cooked from Canalside butchers. They also have a good range of fresh fruit and veg. We ate outside whenever weather allowed. Hot tub is a great size and the children loved it. Wi-Fi worked well for us. Nice small enclosed garden which was good for keeping the children and small dog safe. Trips to Lichfield, Amerton Farm, Trentham Gardens and the Monkey Forest all greatly enjoyed. Ye Old Dun Cow was good for food and within walking distance although we found it a little expensive. This was our 2nd stay at The Hen House. All in all we had a lovely time and would love to return again. Thank you Haley and Martin for the welcome treats and for the use of your properties.

My mum and I have just returned from a wonderful weeks stay at the hen house with our 2 dogs.

We both had an incredible time & would love to go again! The location is far better than I expected, I originally booked as I thought it was the Peak District and although it’s not, it’s still fabulous. So many wonderful walks on your doorstep, Trentham gardens was wonderful as was the canal walks at great Haywood. The hot tub is amazing and speaking with the lovely owner Martin upon leaving he informed me he empty’s the tub every changeover which was great to hear. The beds and really comfortable and the whole place is brilliantly looked after. Lovely enclosed garden too. The front gardens hedge has almost grown up enough to just have a little gate for that to be enclosed to so that may be something the owners could consider? If you are looking for a place in a great location, complete privacy and peaceful environment i thoroughly recommend the hen house. It has given me such fabulous memories with my mum.

Our stay at Hen House was lovely.

We had beautiful views from the back garden and we saw pheasants and rabbits. The property owner Hayley didn’t meet us and was quite laps with answering enquires. However we did meet Charlie and he was extremely helpful. The first day we didn’t have heating or hot water but Charlie was there within half an hour and fixed it for us. The listing states the fields surrounding the property can be used if dogs are on leads but this is untrue. We were told it’s private land and couldn’t be explored. This was disappointing. The BBQ was filthy so couldn’t be used. I booked through Homes to go which didn’t give an option to add dogs to booking which caused a bit of an issue so this listing needs to be amended. The listing states freeview but it is not set up. We tried to use Apps on Tv (ITVX) but it kept stopping because the Wi-Fi is unreliable. The bait box in garden is of concern when taking dogs and would be a risk to small children also.

Really lovely property but there were only 2 of us.

3 seater sofa so if there’s 4 of you it’s a dining chair. Tv small & plenty of room for a bigger one in lounge. Lovely stay Owners very helpful Would stay again

Absolutely gorgeous

We really enjoyed our stay.

..some great local walks etc. The kitchen was well equipped and the hot tub was exceptional. Only a couple of points 1) an additional comfortable chair in the living room would be nice 2) the mattress in the main bedroom is ready for changing. Overall, we had a fabulous time. Thank you.

Stunning property in a nice secluded area.

The property is very clean and has absolutely everything you could need to make your stay perfect. Loved the cosy feel of the property and the hot tub is amazing especially after a long walk. Plenty to do and see in the area within walking or short drive. Can not fault our staff and the host were lovely and very helpful on places to explore in the area. I would definitely recommend and would love to return in the future.

We had a fantastic stay at The Hen House, what a gem of a place right in the countryside away from everything.

The place was clean, comfortable and so peaceful and very close to many different walks to go on adventures for the day. The pub and a local shop are just a 10 minute walk away. The hot tub was an added bonus with views over the fields which was lovely and we enjoyed watching cows in the distant fields in the morning with a coffee. We got engaged during our stay, so this place will always be a special place for us now. We would love to come back in the future. Thank you!

Beautiful place which has been decorated really nicely & has been maintained really well.

Martin met us on arrival to show how to use the hot tub and gave us a great overview for some nice walks around the area. The house had everything you could possibly need. The bed was comfortable, the showers were nice and powerful and the garden was enclosed which was great with the dog. Highly recommend the hen house!

Hen House is a lovely modern building with some nice touches of the original building style.

Spotlessly clean and well equipped with all mod cons, including a hot tub! Set in the countryside but close enough to excellent pubs and restaurants, we highly recommend the Old Dun Cow nearby and the Italian La Terrazza in Rugeley. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. The only thing worth of note is that the layout is quite compact in line with the Hen House theme, the kitchen/diner/living room is dominated by a lovely big leather sofa, ideal for a family with children, but limited space for the table, and needed some shuffling for us 4 adults. This did not distract from our stay, lovely beds, good showers and everything provided. Well recommended.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hen House.

The house was perfect and had pretty much everything you would need for a relaxing break. Our little dog Pluto enjoyed relaxing in the quiet garden after a day of walking around some of the local landmarks, and the hot tub was perfect for us to do the same! We visited Shugborough Hall, Cannock Chase and Rosliston Forestry Centre, all of which were within a half hour drive - we also visited the local village of Abbots Bromley and had a lovely meal at The Bagot Arms. The only negatives I could give would be the unreliable WIFI and the small fridge / freezer (We stayed for a week and brought our own food, the freezer is just one shelf).

We usually stay in Peak District but found Hen House someway south in Staffordshire and were very impressed, didn't want to leave and would go back tomorrow!

Had a great stay and the cottage is very well placed for exploring.

Some of the furniture is a little big and for the size of the property particularly in the bedrooms . That being said we would definitely recommend this property. The property owners were very helpful and friendly.

Property is great, just as described.

Very peaceful area with stunning views. Secluded and in the middle of nowhere just enough for peace and quiet (all we heard were birds and the odd tractor) but close enough to nice walks, tourist attractions, shops, restaurants and cafes. Only met one of the owners, they were very nice and friendly. Only thing missing (just a small thing that would’ve been nice to have) was a small jar of coffee/tea bags. Really enjoyed our time there. Will be booking again, maybe even for colder weather next time so we can enjoy the log burner.

A superb property.

Fabulous facilities that was extremely clean on arrival. Lovely hot tub and some nice touches with the welcome gifts and hosts Martin and Hayley are lovely. Great location if you want to explore this part of the UK and some wonderful things to do locally. Walking distance of an amazing pub (ye olde dun cow) but you must book in to get a table. We will definitely book again here and can highly recommend it.

Walks were great for our dog and hot tub, amazing at the end of the day.. Peace and quiet.

We had a wonderful 3 nights at The Hen House.

The garden was fully secure so we didn’t need to worry about our jack Russell cross escaping. The views from the garden are beautiful. The house was fully equipped with everything we needed, even a bbq which we really enjoyed. The bed is super comfy as well! We found plenty of walks nearby including a few pubs within walking distance. We will definitely be back again.

Good secluded and quiet location.

Owner met us but said that Sykes should not say phone 4 hours before: it should be 20 minutes. The postcode given takes you to the wrong road about 200 m south. The main problem was the shower in the wet room could not be set cold enough. The information inside said there should be 2 torches, but we could not find them. We were given a litre of milk but you will need to bring tea, coffee, sugar etc. We did not use the log burner as the whole place was very warm due to the underfloor heating, which we had to switch off.

The lodge itself is really lovely.

Just a note to anyone wanting to walk from the property that there are a quite lot of tractors and lorries that use the lanes around and in some parts it was quite scary with them trying to pass you on the very narrow lanes. Its also quite muddy on the verges as there are no pavements. They are also quite noisy passing the property but it is just during the daytime. Obviously this is no fault of anyones, this is just for info. Otherwise, the lodge was really nice to stay in. It was clean. The hot tub was gorgeous and the view is stunning. Had a couple of small issues, which we made the owner aware of. Had a lovely week.

We were blown away with the property.

It was amazing. It was very clean, very comfortable, and we had an amazing time there. The welcome bits were a lovely touch. Thank you for the bubbly:) The hot tub was to die for. Every day during our 7 day stay we were in it....even in the snow! A truly amazing find in a quiet location. If you require peace and tranquility, then this is the place to go. A***

Fabulous break, delightful lodge with everything we needed.

Lots of help, support & information provided to ensure we had a great relaxing time away. Plenty to visit nearby including Lichfield, the National Memorial Arboretum, Trentham Garden Centre & shopping village.

Extremely clean and beautifully furnished, high quality and set in scenic surroundings. Hot tub well utilised and so relaxing taking in the views. Lots of walking which is what we wanted and a roaring log fire in the evenings. Hosts were on hand with any questions and sorted out a problem with the electricity promptly. Highly recommended.

Had a beautiful stay at The Hen House.

This perfect little cabin provides everything I needed for a lovely 7 night stay. The hot tub was amazing and I also loved the wood burner, both made the evenings unforgettable. Will definitely be visiting again, Martin was a great host, definitely recommend. See you again soon :-)

We had a lovely weekend at the hen house, all the rooms were very clean and well equipped, the bedding was high quality and the beds were very comfortable.

It was well decorated and had a very nice barn/farmhouse theme throughout. The hot tub was perfect and the cover was very easy to take off and on and it was always lovely and warm. The log-burner was a lovely touch and there was a surplus of wood stored in the garden. Hayley came shortly after we arrived to answer any questions, she was very accommodating. Thank you Hayley, we hope to return soon.

My husband, myself and our dog had the pleasure of staying over the Christmas break, the lodge was private and very comfortable.

The facilities were fantastic and had everything you could need, walks were beautiful and the local pub (11 minutes walk away) served up amazing food. We will book to return in the summer to make use of the large private garden and bbq, and jump back into that fantastic hot tub. Communication was also fab, thanks very much. Xx

Well it was an amazing relaxing place to recover as we didn't think we would get their .

.can't fault anything other than the sofa wasnt really made for 4 and far to slouchy ..would certainly be back ..Hot tub was amaxing and so was the beds...All general items you would need were provided.

We have booked with Sykes a number of times now and it’s always seamless.

We had a lovely time away and the Hen House was perfect for us. The location is really quiet but there is plenty to do locally. We really felt like we got away from everything. The owner was also really friendly and helpful. We would recommend and would return.

Very clean. Quality kitchen equipment and nice decor. Great location with picturesque surrounding countryside for walking and days out within half an hours drive. Enjoyed the hot tub. Ye Old Dun Cow pub within walking distance and La Terrazza restaurant a short drive away. Both very good food and worth a visit. Only downside was that we were a party of 4 adults and a baby and found the living area a little on the small side. We fortunately had very good weather and were able to eat outside.

. I would say the living room is a bit cramped for 4 adults if staying in autumn/ winter when patio use is limited.

The Hen House is incredible!

A perfect get away in a very, very picturesque location. Martin was super friendly, we even received a bottle of Prosecco and some milk on arrival which was a lovely touch! Thanks for having us again!

The stay from start to finish was fantastic with little extras such as: bread, milk and prosecco in the kitchen on arrival.

Adding to this the owner was on hand for any queries prior to during and after the stay. Overall spec of the Hen House is exemplary with everything you need for a great stay and even more! The surrounding area was full of walks and a shirt drive away leads you to some great attractions and shops! We cannot fault the Hen House in any aspect at all and can only thank the host for having us!

Accommodation is to a real high specification, beautiful setting and a nice place overall to unwind.

It was spotless and furnished really nicely. I would definitely recommend this property. The hot tub was fab and the bottle of Prosecco when we arrived was a lovely extra touch. Lots to do in the area, we had a dog with us so we were slightly limited but managed to find some dog friendly pubs and days out. I will definitely come back again one day 10/10!

This cottage is lovely, fab owners, beautifully built and spotless.

Hot tub being an added bonus. The only thing that let it down for us was we knew there was another holiday let on site but as it was meant for 2 people it would be quite quiet. It soon transpired, there were 3 adults staying there and 2 of the afternoons/ evenings out of 4 (one evening there was thunder and torrential rain), were spoilt for us by excessively loud music and singing. It would have been awkward to complain so put up with it. Such a shame for us as the cottage is exceptional.

The property was lovely, spacious enough for the 4 of us, and the hot tub and large outdoor table were incredibly sociable. The nearby walks were relaxing and it was an easy drive to the large Tesco for supplies! I would definitely recommend this venue.
