Thorntree Lodge

The lodge was easy to find, parking is next to the lodge with plenty of room.

The lodge is lovely, light and airy, nicely decorated and everything you need including a pint of milk, the kettle was straight on when we arrived. The lodge is well set out with plenty of room in the open plan living area, we were warm and comfortable throughout our stay. There is plenty of storage space around the lodge. We took our 17 year old dog, she found it easy to walk around the lodge being partly blind and her memory being a bit lost, the lightness of the lodge also helped her. I enjoyed the view from the patio windows, seeing the chicken and watching the wild birds. We had a mixture of weather being the first week of February, Anna and Jim are really friendly and helpful, we enjoyed having a chat with them. It's a great base for travelling around so much to do. We will definitely use this lodge again and I'm recommending it to everyone.

Perfect location for exploring, as added bonus there was a Christmas market at the local social hall.

We had everything we needed and even if the weather wasn’t the best we managed to do a little walk down the nearby wooded area with the dog. Plenty of parking for our 2 cars, friendly animals, love the 2 Shetland ponies. Highly recommended.

Very clean, lovely friendly and helpful owners.

Front garden is enclosed so great for our beagle, but maybe not enough space for a large dog. We stayed for 3 nights and the property was easy to find also near enough to get to local attractions. No problems with WiFi despite comments on other reviews.

Contains everything you need for your stay. Comfy furniture and beds, a well equipped kitchen and friendly hosts. Perfect for a stay of any length.

We as a family, had a lovely peaceful and relaxing stay at the log cabin.

Our dog enjoyed many lovely walks on the land provided with the accommodation Although, being in quite a remote setting, you're 15 mins away from Chesterfield, which has a nice centre and eateries. The only minor gripe was the broadband, which isn't the greatest, but we got round that and was able to watch a movie in the evening. Would thoroughly recommend the cabin for a break, especially for a relaxing getaway.

We had a lovely stay in this clean, spacious, well-equipped lodge.

My sister and I were here with our very elderly mother, and it suited our needs perfectly. The hosts were very friendly and helpful, and the location excellent for a variety of day trips. Would definitely recommend, and am hoping to visit again with the younger end of the family - some great family attractions nearby - in the not too distant future. Thank you for a wonderful break!

Thorntree Lodge is a real gem.

This property was ideal for visiting the peak district and easily housed 4 adults and our dog and also had more than adequate space for visitors. Several easy to reach dog walks can be accessed from the property and the lodge itself is very dog friendly as are the owners whom share the adjacent farmhouse. We enjoyed a relaxing 5 day stay that included 2 elderly ladies that found the one level property together with an easy access shower the ideal setup. A small enclosed garden/driveway was more than adequate for our pooch to do its business etc and the nearby farmyard had a tap and hose so as to washdown wellies and the dog after some muddy but delightful walks. A BIG thank you to the owners whom were friendly, welcoming and very helpful without being at all intrusive and made our stay all the more relaxing. Put Thontree Lodge on your places to stay and you will not be disappointed.

Shabby exterior, weeds and nettles.

Decking slippery when wet. Interior better. Spotless bathroom although mirrors not cleaned. Windows filthy, had the remains of dog drool on the glass and kiddies finger prints. Wardrobe smelt of cigarette smoke. Lampshades full of dust and cobwebs hanging from ceiling corners. Toaster had food remains left in. Hob not cleaned and oven trays not cleaned. No instructions of appliances. The bed was comfy and decent bedding but a drab grey colour. Plenty of hot water. There was a toy found under the bed and the owner made a joke of saying his daughter had not cleaned under the beds. Beware of the Labrador dog which is domineering with other dogs and attacked my dog. The owner was quick to say that his dog did not bite mine, even so it upset us and my dog. This is the first time that we did not get a welcome pack. We had been travelling a long time on the road and was in need of a drink and something to eat. A bottle of milk and some biscuits would have been nice. Also it states that the property is in Rowsley. We was then navigated up some narrow, winding, pot ridden roads. No shops around. Too dangerous to walk your dogs on the roads but the owner did allow us to use his fields. One of the windows had all so had blown glass. The place was warm.

A great location for exploring the area, very central for Bakewell, Chesterfield and Matlock.

Thorntree Lodge was well equipped with everything we needed for a three night stay. Ample room with three spacious bedrooms and a large kitchen/dining/lounge area. Warm and cosy for our frosty winter escape with the dog. The lodge is adjacent to the farmhouse, situated in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. It was the perfect getaway.

Thorntree Lodge was the cosiest of holiday homes, very comfortably furnished and very clean.

Property was lovely spotlessly clean.

Quietly situated but close places like Chatsworth and popular Peak District destinations. Although weather when we went didn't allow it, there was an area for sitting outside and eating. Enjoyed some short walks from the property. Hope to return.

Lovely lodge, quiet location but central for visiting areas of interest

Very clean, cosy and inviting lodge.

All facilities were spot-on and well cared for. There is a dedicated parking spot, private fenced garden and you don't feel overlooked, giving a feeling of privacy whilst knowing the hosts are not far away should you need anything. The hosts are extremely helpful and accommodating and will ensure you have the best experience during your stay. Even got visited by a curious chicken! Would definitely recommend.

Lovely modern well equipped accommodation, in a peaceful farmyard setting.

The hosts Jim & Anna were very friendly and helpful as too was their daughter working in the local pub, the Kelstedge Inn, serving excellent food!

The lodge was warm and inviting.

It was in excellent condition, the facilities were very good. It was super clean and so quiet. A lovely setting and the owners helpful but not at all intrusive. We were very happy to spend time there and may well visit again in the future.

Really clean.

Loads of hot water and great showers. Well equipped kitchen and gas BBQ. Plenty of sofa space for 6 people. Bedrooms are of a good size for this type of building. Loads of parking and gated garden for the dog. Owners are lovely.

One of the main reasons for booking this cabin was that it included WiFi but it was not working for the whole stay, very disappointed

Thorntree Lodge is fantastic - great few days break the lodge is spotless very spacious and in a quiet location perfect to completely unwind.

This was a great base for myself and 3 grandchildren, 3 to 12 years old.

Owners and family were extremely friendly and helpful.

The property was brilliant and very clean and well maintained. The location was very tranquil and quiet. Enjoyed watching the birds and the chicken that roams about and the two little dogs. Never heard them bark at all. Would highly recommend this property to anyone wishing to visit the Derbyshire Dales.

Great distances (in the car) from Matlock, Rowsley, and the Peak District. Even though it rained on and off throughout our time it didn't matter. There was milk in the fridge on arrival along with tea and coffee - who doesn't want a lovely hot drink after any commute? There was also a pub quiz game to keep us entertained on a rainy afternoon. Towels and linen were fresh and laid out on the beds. Easy arrival. Our host was extremely helpful beforehand and during our stay. We would definitely recommend and go back for another break away. Thorntree Lodge was spotlessly clean, comfortable, well equipped and a pleasure to return to each day.

A couple of small improvements would be a clock in the living area and mirrors in the two twin bedrooms - other than that it was perfect - just a shame about the weather!!

Extremely comfortable and warm lodge.

Lovely lounge, dining and kitchen area which makes a really sociable space for family gatherings. Wonderful walks from the door. Very friendly owner who made us feel very welcome.

The lodge was superb with everything needed all there, lovely quiet relaxing location, owners of lodge always spoke and friendly.

Directions to property really clear as well as key collection information. Booking was really simple. No issues at all.

The lodge is beside the owners home and they made us very welcome.

Plenty secure parking for a t least 2 cars. We stayed for 6 nights and found the facilities and furnishings were excellent and of good quality. The owners have thought of everything for a self contained break. The lodge is warm with plenty of hot water for showers/ baths together with a well equipped kitchen including washing machine. The double bedroom has a roomy en suite. Although the decking and small garden look great the weather did not really allow us to make much use of them but they were very secure for the dog or children and had good quality garden furniture. Location is excellent being surrounded by fantastic countryside with lovely walks and views yet only 10-15 minutes drive from Matlock, Bakewell, Chesterfield and a bit further to Buxton. Lots to do and see from a very comfortable base. I would recommend this lodge unreservedly and I know we will go back
