    “Shabby exterior, weeds and nettles.”

Decking slippery when wet. Interior better. Spotless bathroom although mirrors not cleaned. Windows filthy, had the remains of dog drool on the glass and kiddies finger prints. Wardrobe smelt of cigarette smoke. Lampshades full of dust and cobwebs hanging from ceiling corners. Toaster had food remains left in. Hob not cleaned and oven trays not cleaned. No instructions of appliances. The bed was comfy and decent bedding but a drab grey colour. Plenty of hot water. There was a toy found under ...

There was a toy found under the bed and the owner made a joke of saying his daughter had not cleaned under the beds. Beware of the Labrador dog which is domineering with other dogs and attacked my dog. The owner was quick to say that his dog did not bite mine, even so it upset us and my dog. This is the first time that we did not get a welcome pack. We had been travelling a long time on the road and was in need of a drink and something to eat. A bottle of milk and some biscuits would have been nice. Also it states that the property is in Rowsley. We was then navigated up some narrow, winding, pot ridden roads. No shops around. Too dangerous to walk your dogs on the roads but the owner did allow us to use his fields. One of the windows had all so had blown glass. The place was warm.

About the location

ROWSLEY

Bakewell 3 miles; Matlock 5 miles.

The pretty village of Rowsley is situated just at the south of stately Chatsworth - home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and a stone’s throw from the impressive tudor-built Haddon Hall. This little village has many attractions, including Caldwell's Mill which houses the last water-powered roller flour mill and a range of craft workshops, shops and a restaurant, Peak Rail, which is a rail enthusiasts dream with rides along the valley, and the Peak Village which has many outlet shops with bargains galore together with feature attractions, a fitness centre and an old fashioned sweet shop and ice cream parlour. Rowsley offers a range of village amenities including shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants, excellent fly fishing facilities (day tickets available from the historic Peacock Hotel) and neighbouring the village is the superb Michelin-starred East Lodge Hotel and Restaurant. The village is also a hub for walkers and cyclists with many picturesque Peak District trails being accessible including the Derwent Valley cycle way, the Monsal Trail and the Rowsley Bar Hill Climb. Close by is Bakewell, capital of the Peak District, and home of the famous Bakewell pudding (definitely not tart!), still made locally to an old and secret recipe. This picturesque town is at the scenic heart of the Peak District, and further attractions in the area include Gulliver's Kingdom, the shops and eateries of Matlock Bath, and Alton Towers, also within easy touring distance, making the location ideal for the whole family to enjoy.
