Lavender Lodge

We read all the reviews before booking and ita fair to say that this property is a great one to rent due to location, standards and the space you have available.

In the end there was just 2 of us but there's lots of room even for 4. We had super sunshine so it was nice to have an area to sit and soak up the sun. Sadly the double bed was bad for my back (its been mentioned before so maybe time for a change??). What i should have done is move into a single bed as my sleep was awful. We would come back but only if a new mattress was purchased. The local pub and shop were superb

Had a wonderful time at Lavender Lodge and exploring the surrounding areas.

The lodge was beautiful, had excellent facilities and the added bonus of the fans made things a little cooler in the lodge. My only issue, and this is personal preference, is that the mattress in the main bedroom was too hard for us to sleep on. Otherwise everythjng was brilliant.

Had a lovely stay here cottage is very comfortable.

Want to say a special thank you to ian and Alison had an emergency with an elderly family member and they were extremely helpful. A beautiful area near lots of areas to visit. Would definitely return. Lovely pubs just short drive. And husband loved the shower highly recommend

Great place, everything you would need for a lovely stay!

Garden is a suntrap. Lovely welcome pack, followed by Ian the owner , bringing us fresh strawberries from his garden. Pub and shop very short walk away. Lots to do a short drive away. Would definitely recommend. Had a lovely stay.

Lovely lodge, owners really friendly and accommodating to our late arrival due to family commitments.

Excellent facilities, great for a dog, well stocked kitchen cupboards to cook a meal, lovely fluffy towels, super shower and nice to have choice of a bath. Really good access for anyone with mobility problems as there is a ramp on the side, plenty of spacious parking.

We had a lovely time at Lavender House visiting family and exploring the beautiful area.

Loved that the pub and village store were right around the corner and all the dog friendly country walks. The little backyard provided our little dog an early morning break and some sunny spots in the afternoon. Showers and beds were great, kitchen ok. Could use an updated frying pan and definitely needs a coffee maker, our kids brought us one to use. But other than that we had everything we needed for a nice 2-week stay. Ian was always friendly and about the place if you needed anything. We can’t wait to visit again.

Apart from a few minor maintenance issues, the lodge was - as last time - comfortable, very clean and cosy.

Unlike last time we had wonderful weather and enjoyed visits to Stourhead, Forde Abbey, Shaftesbury Abbey, Old Wardour Castle, South Cadbury hill fort and Castle Cary - all easily accessible from the lodge. The village of Charlton Horethorne itself is lovely and there are great walks from the door. Highly recommended for a good value stay in Somerset.

This property is amazing.

So clean and everything you want and provided. Amazing comfortable place Met the owners lovely people. So helpful if needed anything.

Lavender Lodge, is a wonderful place to have your holiday….

Not only is it, beautifully designed and decorated, very well equipped, and extremely comfortable, it is in a lovely peaceful location, yet easy access , to so many historical and interesting places……and lovely walks within the village too. The owners, are so welcoming, and helpful in every way. We would highly recommend Lavender Lodge.

Lovely accommodation, clean, cosy and comfortable.

The setting and the village itself are very attractive and everyone is very friendly. Many local walks including The Cleeve close to the lodge. Only things we felt were missing: a permanent side gate to ensure safety of children and pets in the back garden; a retractable clothes line in the back garden as there's nowhere to hang washing in good weather; a chair in the bedroom/s.

A very good place to start your travel to the many places worth visiting in this wonderful part of the Country. Highly recommended.

The only thing that would have been useful would be fans as it was hot.

Excellent location, quiet, picturesque village.

Only a few steps from the village pub and store. House is comfortable and well furnished, we were only 2 people staying, so plenty of room. Only issue was the small TV, with only basic freeview channels, no HDMI port or streaming options (owner said they would be looking to rectify this). Must go to the Natterjack pub, 20 minutes away, superb food.

Lavender Lodge is in the wonderful village of Charlton Horethorne.

There is a pub that serves great food a 2 minute walk away from the lodge and a village shop which sells a bit of everything. We were made very welcome by Ian and Alison.

A wonderful place to stay, we all had a lovely time.

Centrally located for many things. Very friendly and helpful owner who helped us with anything we required.

Really enjoyed our stay the cottage it was great, and had everything you needed.

The only real comment is TVs are really small could do with something larger.

Fantastic 2 bedroom lodge with all the comforts of home.

The owners are very helpful should you need them. A little welcome basket on arrival was a nice touch with cake and biscuits included. Ideal location for a holiday base to head off and explore Somerset and Dorset and even Devon. Will definitely be back in the future as so much more to see and discover in the area. Charlton Horethorne is a lovely peaceful and scenic village with things to do should you wish or just enjoy the peaceful setting.

What a lovely holiday we had at Lavender Lodge.

The owners were so friendly and helpful and the Lodge was very comfortable and well equipped. It is situated is in such a pretty and peaceful village but within easy reach of tourist attractions such as Yeovilton and Sparkford as well as various National Trust properties.

A beautiful lodge, with everything you could need.

Owners on site and always availble if needed. 5 mins walk to a lovely hotel/pub with good food. Village shop next door with all the basics and lots of extras. Pretty village. Maybe a bigger televison in the living area.

A lovely lodge, well equipped and clean, Situated on a village farm with mainly converted buildings and cows in the fields.

Within a beautiful village with Village shop and restaurant/pub. The owners were very friendly and polite, in fact all the people around were the same. We had a lovely break and came away well rested. Thanks to Ian, Alison, Jim and everybody.

This was our 3rd stay at Lavender Lodge.

We had two glorious weeks there. The lodge is very peaceful place to stay and the owners very friendly. Being centrally positioned, Charlton Horethorne is an ideal location to visit places in Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire and we even managed a day trip to Devon. We only have one negative point in that the double bed mattress was very hard. We look forward to staying at Lavender Lodge again.

We had a wonderful family holiday at Lavender Lodge.

The lodge is located in the centre of the village and was equipped with everything we needed. We really appreciated the warm welcome from Ian and Alison. The village is beautiful with a fantastic pub and shop, that doubles as a cafe, and we made lots of use of the enclosed green park 2 mins away from the lodge. There is so much to see and do in the area, highlights included Longleat and the gardens of Sherborne castle - highly recommend!

The lodge was everything they said & more. Very comfortable, clean & all the facilities we wanted. Also lovely to have the friendly owners close by & able to tell us about the area. Plenty of walks, dogs very welcome. Would definitely stay again . Only downside not many pubs within walking distance and could do with more information about take sways which are few because of distance . Family very helpful and friendly. Had a good time. Would recommend.

Our only comment is that we would have preferred a dishwasher to a washing machine.

This did not detract from a very comfortable holiday.

Beds are a bit hard.

Extra blankets would be useful. Otherwise very comfortable.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Lavender Lodge very much, we met the property owner who is very friendly when we arrived, and she explained all the dos and don'ts which was very informative and places of interest near by we might want to visit, We would defiantly visit this property again and would recommend it to anyone who wants a nice comfortable and peaceful relaxing holiday.

We had a really good 5 days in Charlton Horethorne.

Ian was on hand should we have any problems - which we didn’t. The lodge was set in beautiful surroundings and had everything we needed. It was so peaceful - we live in a village in Suffolk and value peace and quiet. The village itself was very friendly and we made use of the shop and pub. There are also some great walks starting from the village. We told Ian we would be back, possibly for 2 weeks next year………

a wonderful cottage cant fault it at all in a lovley area this was our second visit it was spotless from back to front the bedroom were one of the best we have had and with an on suite with each bedroom just perfect and we enjoyed it very very much , there was one problem however which the owners can not do anything about there is NO mobile phone signal it needs a short walk away to get one , the wi-fi signal is perfect but still very highly recommended cottege

Place was extremely clean & comfortable.

Only downside was the garden which had no grass for dogs. Hosts very friendly

Had a wonderful week at Lavender Lodge.

We were met on arrival by Ian, showed us around. Milk in the fridge plus tea,coffee and biscuits so we could have a cup of tea. Visited the local pub for a meal, food excellent though a little expensive but worth it. Lots of nice places to visit in area. Enjoyed both the Haynes Motor Museum and the Fleet Air Arm Museum. Only little criticism is that there could have been a little more drawer space in the bedrooms. Would definitely recommend this lodge as such a high quality place to stay.

Left home in rain "was this an omen" cleared after Birmingham and then enjoyed lovely weather for the rest of our holiday.

Accommodation very clean and comfortable and everyone we met very friendly and helpful. Every day we ventured out to to some lovely places in the area such as Weymouth, Montacute House (National Trust), Weston Super Mare, East Somerset Railway, Wells and many many more. Sat Nat was obviously enjoying itself as took us many times off the beaten track down single, winding and hilly roads with sheer drops giving our mother the jitters :-). Cannot recommend any restaurants in the area as we ate every evening back at the accommodation. Plenty of laughs had by all and plenty of wine drunk. Really enjoyed our holiday here and will tell friends and family all about our adventures, A huge thank you Ian & Alison, Thank you Beryl, Carol, Helen & Jane (Mother & Daughters)

Lovely quiet and peaceful.

Ian welcomed us when we got there. Beautiful countryside. Weather was on our side, it only rained for one day. Thoroughly enjoyed our break.

my wife and I agreed that this home was one of the top 3 properties we have had in all the years that we have had self catering holidays 45 years .

it was wonderful I loved having a bathroom for both bedrooms if I could make one small fault , why o why was that small television put up so high up as it was very hard to watch but other than that just great would I go back again o yes please bob brown

Lovely relaxing lodge, very private, everything you need is here, even a washing machine, Ian & Alison are very friendly & helpful, village shop stocks most things & staff are brilliant, local pub a bit posh & expensive for our liking, The Old Inn in Horton is so superior, there are plenty of great walks around the area, so all in all if you want to just unwind, come here, thank you Middle Farm

Everything was perfect in the lodge.

Very clean, comfortable and cosy. Great location too. Absolutely perfect.

All went very well.

We had a small issue with one of the TVs not working and Ian was able to very quickly resolve the problem. Many thanks!

My second visit to Lavender Lodge and this time there was no snow!

This property is comfortable and convenient to friends in the area.

We were provided with everything that you would expect to need for a self-catering holiday.

We were delighted to find tea, coffee, milk and eggs on our arrival. The owners were very accommodating. We would highly recommend holidaying in one of their two lodges.

The lodge was extremely well equipped and very nicely co-ordinated.

Nice to see a fridge/freezer, so much more useful than a dishwasher.

I was very pleased with the accomodation, it suited our purposes very well.

Taking a dog away can be tricky but this lodge was ideal with a good layout inside and garden outside. The location allowed good access to many places of interest and the coast all within easy reach.

It’s in a peaceful, beautiful setting. The village shop and pub are fantastic. The lodge is comfortable and worked really well for 4 of us and a small dog. The owners were super helpful, all went really well.

The village is lovely with a very well stocked village shop. The owners were friendly and welcoming, close by if needed, but in no way interfering. Lots of lovely places to walk the dog. Just the place to relax and unwind. Would definitely recommend.

The lodge was cosy and comfortable and well provisioned. Highly recommended.

Alison, the owner, was very friendly and very helpful, which added to the enjoyment of our holiday.

Cottage lovely, We did not do our research as we are unable to walk very far and could have done with something similar closer to amenities.

We went to other places but all the places were over an hours drive. Our mistake, however we had a very enjoyable break. We should also like to thank you for the book that we found at the lodge which was given to us..

Lovely spotlessly clean lodge situated in a very quiet location.

Easy access to village shop and pub (only a couple of minutes walk). Lodge has everything you need, including a washing machine (although no dishwasher) including a family bathroom and on-suite master bedroom. We were given permission to bring our two small dogs and while the outside area was lovely it isn’t secure. A gate across to stop the dogs running off would have made it perfect. The cows in the field out the back do attract flies and this is the only bugbear. Don’t let it put you off - just bring the fly spray! Only a 5 mile drive into Sherborne for supermarkets and shops as well as having an Abbey and old and new castles. In all a lovely place to stay with easy access to Somerset, Dorset and Devon. I’d definitely recommend.

Cottage is a purpose built holiday let, which offers everything you could need.

Owners very thoughtful leaving milk and biscuits and 6 fresh eggs off the farm. We were lucky to have extremely hot weather, sadly no sun loungers or grass to enjoy some sunbathing.

We were disappointed with the mattress on the double bed as we found it very hard and lumpy We actually slept in the two singles after the first night.

the two settees are well worn and not comfortable , material was very itchy. Toilet brushes were disgusting and need replacing as this is a health hazard Shame about factors as it was a lovely lodge and location.,but would be reluctant to rebook this lodge due to the items mentioned.

This family run enterprise is fabulous.

The lodges are very well presented and very spacious. The village location is idyllic and the local village shop and pub are simply great. My only gripe is the lack of a mobile signal in the village but there is free WiFi at the lodges.

There were a few minor issues on arrival- like no BBC tv, while all other channels worked- but they were resolved by the owners very quickly.

Not sure why there was a washing machine- how would you dry the clean clothes? Maybe a dishwasher would be a better alternative? Clearer information about recycling and waste collection arrangements would help but again owners were very helpful. Having a quality pub/hotel and village shop within a 2 minute walk was a definite advantage, especially when the weather was not good! This was a good base to see a range of attractions- National Trust, English Heritage, Monkey World etc and the coast is not far away.

The small village is in a good position for exploring the area.

I live in Charlton Horethore and booked both Poppy and Lavender lodges to accommodate 2 families for a pre Christmas get together.

After the initial booking Alison liaised with me before the event, sorting out any queries I might have and gave us all a hugely warm welcome on arrival. The families were delighted with the accommodation which was really well presented and warm! Important for December! During the week-end Alison and Ian made sure they were around and we all really appreciated their efforts. Charlton Horethorne is, of course, well known to us but for those visiting for the first time, the village shop and pub are within a minute's walk and the lovely town of Sherborne just 5 miles away. Splendid dog walking country, we would highly recommend the area!

Lavender Lodge is a wonderful place to spend a holiday.

It is very warm and comfortable with every facility which could possibly be needed. Even when it poured with rain, the sound of the rain on the roof was wonderfully comforting and made the Lodge feel even more snug. Because there is no light pollution, the stars at night are brilliant, and fascinating to look up at. The surrounding area is beautiful and the Village Shop is a wonderful place to visit, with old fashioned courtesy and service. Altogether, it is a great place for a holiday.

Lodge was fantastic everything you needed was there and owners were very friendly and helpful and added some nice touches for our Christmas break.
