Ideal base for accessing the coast and very dog friendly. Lovely walks nearby. Rob & Ange were perfect hosts. Will definitely book again.

Very homely, quiet, wonderful leafy enclosed grassy garden with babbling stream. Our dogs loved the garden. Very relaxing. Everything we needed in the kitchen, cosy and warm.

Had a lovely stay it was so peaceful and tranquil which is exactly why we booked and our dog had the run of the enclosed garden and stream we visited the Welsh Wildlife Centre nearby and had a weekend of nature the perfect reset ,owner was super friendly but unobtrusive and would recommend this place for anyone who wants a relaxing holiday

A lovely quirky place to stay, in a great location.

The hosts are most friendly and accommodating- as they live close by they can be contacted if needed. The hosts are very dog friendly and as well as the spacious enclosed garden, there are walks through the woods and open fields which form part of the site. It is a great location to explore the coast, inland areas including Cenarth and Fynnone falls as well as local cheese makers. The Crymych Arms Community pub is well worth a visit as they serve good beer and delicious reasonably priced food.

We’ve just come back from a fantastic weekend at The Hen Pen and honestly can’t recommend it highly enough.

From the moment we arrived we had such a warm welcome from the owners — friendly, helpful and thoughtful, while still giving us total privacy to properly unwind. The setting is perfect for a relaxing break. It’s peaceful, rural and surrounded by great walking routes. Our dogs absolutely loved it — loads of space nearby with paths and fields for proper stretches of the legs, and the river was incredibly handy for washing them off after muddy walks (a genuine bonus if you’ve got adventurous pups!). Inside, the cottage is cosy, comfortable and really well set up. The hosts made sure we had ample heating, internet, and the kitchen had everything you could possibly need — including an air fryer, which was ideal for easy meals after a day out. The layout worked brilliantly too: there’s one bedroom with a double bed, plus a second bedroom with two single beds and its own en-suite. Having two toilets was really convenient, and the electric shower had proper hot water (always appreciated after a long walk!). Overall, this is genuinely one of the best places we’ve stayed in the last couple of years. Clean, well-equipped, dog-friendly, and in a gorgeous location with lovely hosts — we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it without hesitation. We’d happily return.

Quaint little place.

Remote setting (singe track roads) with a little stream at bottom of garden and own bridge to woods. Garden is secure but open to stream and smaller fencing at one side. Our smallish dog loved roaming round it. Bedrooms upstairs you may struggle with headroom if tall. Owners friendly and on hand if you need anything but not intrusive. Lovely decking area to sit and listen to birds and babbling water. Only thing could do with is a coat hook downstairs. Definitely recommend for peace and quiet and exploring this lovely part of Wales

Our dog really loved the large enclosed garden—all you could need in the kitchen, including an air fryer.

Outdoor seating is for when the Welch weather behaves. There is no mobile signal on any network, but reasonable wifi at 10 Mbps download and 1.5 Mbps upload.

Such a lovely place to stay.

This is our second visit and we willl return again. The garden is just beautiful and so peaceful. Owners are very friendly and make you feel very welcome.

I would say it was the most relaxing holiday that me and my dogs have ever been on. We could just sit and relax in the garden with no worries. The accommodation was very comfortable and had everything you could need. The owners where very friendly and helpful. They left you to enjoy the peace and quiet. Would recommend feel like I've had a proper holiday.

6 miles from nearest pub it’s more like 6miles very cramped in sleeping area and shower is very small.

Lovely property, had everything you would need, so peaceful, next to a small river, very relaxing.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hen Pen again our 4th ,stay including Pendre previously.

We know we can rely on Rob and Angie for a friendly welcome and have become good friends. There are so many lovely places to go round there and really enjoyed the new decking for sitting out. The weather was also brilliant for us. We hope to come again in the future.K,C and R Penny

The owners met us on arrival and were most friendly and helpful, providing us with all relevant information, including nearby pubs.

The property was a little difficult to find as it can not be seen from the road but the directions got us close enough. It is located in a beautiful hamlet and as the owners live close-by they were readily accessible if we had needed to contact them. We absolutely enjoyed our stay, as did our dog, who enjoyed walks from the property through the wood on the opposite side of the stream and back through the fields. Despite the cool nights, heating was more than adequate to keep us comfortable. The Crymych Inn is only a few miles away and serves great food and drink. The property is well located for access to many interesting areas to explore. Overall we had a great time whilst staying at the Hen Pen and reco.mend the property highly.

This was a nice cosy base for exploring Cardigan and only an hours drive to Pembroke Coast.

Rob and Angie were such a lovely couple, but my favourite thing was meeting their dogs Doug and Mollie who my dog also befriended.

The hen pen was a lovely, clean and spacious.

Very friendly hosts. Everything you need on hand. We really enjoyed our week stay. Extra bonus was the honesty box with fresh duck eggs and Welsh cakes in the village near the church. Only slight issues with heating as not available during the day, mattresses needs replacing, Security light was on all night and would have been nice to have it off during night as brightened up bed room. And lastly it would be better to rearrange the layout of the living room area as couch in front of radiator.

Owner was on hand and very friendly to set the stay off on a good note. Lovely setting and has everything you need for a break away in west wales.

We had a very enjoyable week.

We had the most wonderful time on this holiday!

Rob was a lovely, kind host - around if needed but not at all intrusive. The henpen was immaculately clean and very comfortable. We didn't even have to strip the beds etc at the end, it felt so hassle free. Talking of the bed - the mattress was so comfortable my husband looked at the brand for future reference! The garden was incredible and very secure for our dog. We had some issues with the Internet but mostly when trying to stream films etc to our amazon stick - Rob was very helpful though and even started to look into upgrading the system. Really wonderful hosts. Great location too - cardigan bay is amazing, as is poppit sands beach. Thanks again for a lovely holiday.

We had a very enjoyable stay here, a small community very rural, Welsh lanes in places, with passing places.

The hosts Rob and Angela are a very friendly couple, we got on with them very well. One of The highlights was to see 3 sheep in the garden who visited us twice. Some lovely places to visit too.

Lovely little place to stay!

The garden is fully enclosed which was a great relief so we knew our jack russell couldn’t escape. The locality is very quiet and peaceful and you can hear the stream at the bottom of the garden especially during the night. The facilities are very good. You do have to watch your head when you get into and out of bed so be mindful especially if you get up in the night to go on the loo! There are lots of places to visit within 30 minutes; the Welsh Wildlife Centre; Cilgerran Castle; Cardigan castle; Poppit Sands beach; Mwnt; Cardigan Island Coastal park and St Dogmaels Abbey to name a few! We would certainly consider staying here again!

Had a lovely week at the hen pen my daughter and the dogs loved the garden and stream tranquil peaceful week was lovely was nice too get away and enjoy the country side we all enjoyed the hen pen will be back owners are really lovely and welcoming

Very enjoyable stay at the Hen Pen with our 22 month old daughter.

We loved the large grassy garden, the silence and the calming sound of the stream. The cottage is more spacious than it seems in the photos and everything one needs for a comfortable stay is present. A functional, clean and cosy home from home that offers great value for money. The owner is very friendly and strikes the perfect balance between being available and leaving guests to enjoy their privacy. Despite the showery weather, we undertook various trips in the surrounding area of the cottage. Lots to see and do within a 30 min drive or less. We highly recommend the Hen Pen for a stay in southwest Wales and would love to return one day.

Please take note of description it's not for those with mobility issues we thought we would be OK but struggled a little-our issue not the owners. Owners lovely people.

We had a wonderful 2 weeks very quiet only sound on an evening the stream at bottom of the large enclosed garden perfect for 2 large dogs I could walk them through the woods and across large field owned by owner we hope to return

Fabulous environment, very quiet with sound of the brook the only sound you will hear.

Owner is very helpful. Plenty to do and see with some fantastic beeches at Cardigan and further up the coast.Definitely recommend Cardigan Island Farm.

Great stay.

Lovely for my dog daisy with enclosed garden. Great beaches of Newport, Aberporth , Newquay and Poppit sands short drive away. Also nice town of Newcastle Emlyn and Cardigan not far away. Enjoyed walking my dog in Cilgerran by the river Teifi . Cabin had everything needed including very comfortable double bed . I will be back

We were delighted with the Hen Pen.

It was just what we expected, although the garden was much bigger than we expected & so was the kitchen. Rob greeted us when we arrived and was very friendly & welcoming. He lets us knew where he’d be if we had any issues. Location wise, we knew it was quite out of the way and would take 20-30 minutes (down mostly single track windy roads) to get to Cardigan or Aberporth ,but were ok with it. We ate in quite a bit so I loved that there was plenty of crockery, cutlery, pans, oven trays & utensils. I’d forgotten my hair dryer but, it wasn’t an issue as there was one to use in the property (life saver). The heating is simple yet sufficient (although I imagine it would get very cold November-March time). The bedrooms appeared to hold the heat very well once we warmed it with the radiator. Me & my son slept well but my husband didn’t (which is why it was only given 4 stars for comfort). I would stay here again. Maybe in the summer so we could enjoy the beautiful garden more.

Facilities for us and our dog were excellent. The only disadvantage was access to the property not really suitably for anyone with walking disabilities. A steep access path from where car was parked. Could benefit from a handrail and a small portable step into the property. Other than that everything was fine.

It is such a peaceful place and perfect for a visit with our dog, who particularly loved the stream at the bottom of the garden. Thank you to the owners for being so welcoming and making sure the place was so clean and comfortable. Such a cosy place and we would love to stay again if we have the opportunity.

We had a very nice stay at the Hen Pen but would like to point out that elderly people would have to walk down a steep shale path with luggage etc.

and walking a dog around is nye on impossible for the steep hills. That said the Hen Pen was very comfortable etc.

We had a lovely 3 night stay last week at the Hen Pen with our dog despite the rain and only wish we could have stayed longer!

A really peaceful setting with a babbling stream and a visiting heron! The Hen Pen was very clean and although not huge was perfect for three of us and our dog and had all the amenities we needed for our stay. The only downside was the shower. The water pressure was practically non existent and kept going hot and cold but it didn’t put us off having a very enjoyable stay. Also we were told the central heating was on a timer but it didn’t come on during our stay however there were electric heaters and a fire which sufficed. Would definitely recommend The Ferry Inn at St Dogmaels to eat as food great, staff very friendly and service was excellent. Newquay is a lovely seaside town where we watched dolphins playing in the sea! Beautiful part of the world and would definitely recommend a stay in The Hen Pen.

The perfect accomodation for ourselves and our two children (7 and 5).

Comfortable and cosy and fully equipped with all we needed. Very helpful and welcoming owners, loads to do nearby along with a lovely stream in the garden for the kids to play in.

What an amazing holiday!

Couldn't have asked for anything better, very warm friendly reception as we arrived. There were plenty of sight seeing leaflets of nearby attractions to visit, so we could find plenty to do. We mainly stayed on site, we were never too far from woodland walks, beautiful view spots, there was a pond nearby where we had a great day on the rowing boat, the list carries on. I would definitely book again, and I'm certainly recommending to anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of hectic life, Thank you Rob, Angie and family

Beautiful place if your after peace and quiet and fresh air the hen pen is amazing i came for a weekend then came back for a week a month later ill will be returning next yr so calm and peaceful the dogs loved the large garden and stream too

This property is beautiful iv just had 3 nights in the hen pen it’s magical, didn’t want to leave, its even prettier than the pictures perfect if u want to just relax and enjoy scenery the owners are lovely too, we had a lovely day out in cardigan and nevern booking again very soon ❤️❤️❤️

Great escape from city life in rural wales.

Cosy, well equipped chalet cottage with very large garden next to a stream. Perfect for dogs and humans. Kind and helpful owners. Great location for exploring West Wales.

This was our 2nd time at the Hen Pen and despite the horrible weather on all but 2 of the days, we had a very relaxing peaceful stay.

The owners Rob and Angie are very approachable and friendly and would do their best to help if you needed them. The Hen Pen is always clean and tidy with a well thought out interior, they have both worked very hard, to ensure a comfortable stay. Rob kindly let us store our motorbike in the barn out of the awful weather, ( Thanks again Rob ) much appreciated. We also enjoy the walks in the area and the property is within easy reach of many places to visit. We hope to return again in the future. Thanks again , hope to see you soon.

Our dog was safe in the garden which was a fair size , Everything you need in the Hen Pen for a great stay , owners very friendly without being intrusive. Good location to visit areas of interest and a lovely waterfall only 10 mins away Highly recommend, will be back

Nice property but basic furnishings.

Functional but lacking finesse, for example, towels appeared well used and no colour coordination. Could have been cleaner as found cobwebs and windows were dirty. Could benefit from a welcome booklet with information regarding how to use appliances such as the central heating. Additionally where to find local shops would be very helpful. Garden was lovely but again furniture was worn. Owners were approachable and the children were friendly with ours. Overall cheap and cheerful.

This cottage has loveliest spot, and nice large garden with a picture perfect stream running at the bottom.

Sitting outisde was a lovely start and finish to the day... we didn't want to leave The cottage is very well equipped with everything you could need, clean and comfortable. Our neice had the best time playing with a new friend she met and meeting Oreo the horse and Sally the pig. This family run cottage is heavenly, the perfect spot to relax and unwind and enjoy the local countryside. The views are spectacular too Rob and Angie, the owners, are really friendly but not intrusive. We knew where they were if we needed anything and had a nice chat as we left. The garden is mainly secure for the dogs, apart from one small wall that ours managed to climb over.... saying this though it didn't really matter as everyone is so relaxed and friendly.

The Hen Pen is in a wonderful, rural setting on a smallholding.

The owners are very welcoming/helpful and, around every day in the background if you have any questions. The accommodation was cosy and comfortable, especially the beds! This is a new business with much potential in the future as, the owners really listen to their visitors. We are well-travelled and, we had a lovely week staying in the Hen Pen! An ideal location for exploring West Wales and the beautiful coast. Rural location so, some driving on "local roads" is required. We wish the owners best wishes for the future.

We had a lovely relaxing stay at the cottage, the area was idyllic, cosy cottage, & we explored the coast from St David’s to New Quay, also met family in Narberth, lovely town & visited Tenby & Saundersfoot all in easy driving distance

If your Sat Nav says you have reached your destination stay on that road up the hill to the orange house and it’s up that turning.

What a fabulous getaway -the property was clean and inviting. The hosts Rob and Angie are the nicest people you could meet so friendly and accommodating they will help you with anything. The garden and stream is lovely and was ideal to BBQ. Also it was great fun feeding the piglets in the barn every morning . Overall a very welcoming place, very peaceful and with great weather we could not fault it. Obviously its very rural but great places to drive out to would recommend it.

The Pen was very comfortable and had everything you needed , could do with some oven gloves though and a small bar of soap in the bathrooms . Other than that I couldn't fault it. Would definitely come back here again.

The hen pen was perfect for us, charming, very comfortable and had everything we needed. The garden to relax by the stream in was an added bonus. We enjoyed our time on the farm, very relaxing, in-between being active exploring the beautiful coast and surroundings. Will definitely book again!
