Lakeside Lodge

Just had the most chilling two weeks at Waterways Farm in the one bed lodge, had a wonderful welcome pack of eggs, milk and Lemon Drizzle cake.

The accommodation is perfect for two people so much so already booked for next year. Only one bug bear I personally don't think a dishwasher is needed for two of you I would rather have a small freezer there as I took enough freezer stuff for one week expecting to go shopping for the following week. It would've been so much easier to have taken all the food needed and put into a proper freezer rather than the silly bit at top of fridge. Looking forward to next June for another relaxing time apart from the barking from the boarding kennels but to be honest you learn to blank it out Thank you so much.Rob and Family

It was quiet and peaceful the dogs in kennel didn’t disturb us.

The fishing was brilliant this was the reason for a break. The accommodation could have been better cleaned when we got there bits on floor shower head needs a descale I did spray something on it . Wasn’t enough cupboards . The village is nice we ate at the nags head nice food .

The location was lovely but the constant dogs barking from the kennels really spoiled the stay.

The lodge and surroundings were first class, everything you could need was provided, and we will definitely be going back.

Great location for peaceful getaway, husband enjoyed the fishing.

It was mine and my partners first time here with our dog and it seriously did not disappoint.

It was a beautiful lodge that was well equipped that had everything we needed. A lovely gesture from the owners leaving us milk, eggs and some cakes. My partner fished and he did well and caught some really nice carp! The walks are beautiful and the town is lovely. We would definitely recommend going to the English distillery down the road and trying the Chinese out ! We would also highly recommend booking a stay here. Rob was lovely and came to make sure everything was fine. We will definitely be returning in the warmer months. Thank you for the best post Christmas break

Sadly it does list fridge ,freezer but it was only a fridge with a small freezer box at top .

Not adequate when taken frozen meals for a stay! We did not find the hot tub ,pool table ,nor the bag of dog towels in cupboard,had taken our own dog towels. Own preference…bed was very hard!! Plastic sheet !! Again water very low so fishing poor ,others opposite us went home early,not owners fault.Overall felt nice ,everything you need ,slightly expensive for so late in the year ,end October/Nov .Cleaning very hit and miss

Had a fantastic week 17/24 May and loved every minute of it .

The owners had left a lovely welcome pack ready for us. Met the owner whilst fishing and he even got some worms for hubby. The peace and quiet round the lake watching the swallows flying round, the only one gripe was the dogs barking from the kennels but you got used to it and it was never at night. Would definitely go back again hopefully next year

Beautiful area very peaceful and relaxing, cabin was very clean and comfortable, when we arrived there was eggs,milk and biscuits waiting for us which was a lovely touch.

Fishing was great caught my biggest ever carp so was well chuffed

Great stay

This lodge is one of 5 on the lake but they are quite private with bushes and trees in the right places.

Caught a few fish which were in fabulous condition, biggest 20lb. We saw deers and a hare, heard one owl. The lodge could do with a good clean, fridge was cracked in several places with a screwed on lever to keep the icebox shut. Had to clean the fridge before we could put our food in as there were crumbs everywhere and something had been spilled ☹️ The owner had a new fridge delivered whilst we were there and stored it on the decking. The oven door needs to be lifted for it to close, curtains missing hooks and the selection of glasses is poor, not a decent wine glass in there

This was for second visit to Lakeside lodge, again we had most relaxing time.

Robert the owner came to see us to make sure everything was OK for us. We didn't do fishing but watching all things on the Lake ducks & birds even heard the cuckoo. Local shops very nice, lovely fish & chips & the Nags Head pub we recommend. Hopefully we will go again next year Many thanks Wendy & Brian.

Once again perfectly presented lodge, clean warm,yes there are kennels but it is widely mentioned so no surprises, great fishing, very private all round relaxing break, nothing not to like, Will be back.

Few lovely fish caught on site ,,,kennels close by that I imagine in summer months would be very noisy ,,,though an issue was I walked my dog round same field as kennel maids and I have never seen so much dog excrement, they definitely don't bag up and dispose ,could be rather smelly in warm months ,,Robert the owner was a really lovely man and very welcoming

Was looking for a nice relaxing venue to stay for my birthday week and booked lakeside lodge .

The lodge was clean on arrival and has everything you would require . Whilst not furnished to a modern finish and does not have the luxury of a hot tub it makes up for it with its views and it is the only lodge which is right next to the lake with its decked area . As a keen carp angler this was the reason i chose this lodge . Robert the owner came to see me the 2nd day to introduce himself and is such s nice guy . I thanked him for the eggs and cake left for me on arrival and he proceded to pop by in the week to say hello and see how i was getting on with the fishing. Ended up with around 20 carp caught with the biggest 16lb . Lots of small fish but im sure there is a few bigger fish in there too if you can get though the smaller ones. The holiday wasnt solely about the fishing this time though it was about relaxing and energizing which it certainly did that . Waterways is a fantastic venue and would stay there again . Dog freindly . Buddy my dog loved it too. If i could make a constructive comment it would be nice to have a fishing platform infront of the balcony that can be accessed through a gate to save you using the bank which became quite muddy though the week. Great for relaxing, a little fishing and visit surrounding area.

The host is friendly and checked if all is well. We went in February which means it rained, but it didn't dampen our holiday, hubby still fished while sitting indoors. If you go to pub for meal in the evening, I recommend a torch to see in the dark or use your mobile torch. I would highly recommend, which is why this is our second stay.

Booked a long weekend for my wife's birthday.

Arrived an hour after earliest check-in time to find the lodge in a mess, with dirty linen and towels piled on the sofa, food left in the fridge-freezer and generally unclean. Called the owner who said they thought we weren't arriving till the following day. We went back to the village for about an hour to give time for preparation before going back, to find some cleaning had been done and the fridge cleared but the freezer still had food in. After unpacking my wife went to sit on the bed which promptly slid away causing her to fall into the bedside table. Nice location and short walk into village on the plus side, but the noise from boarding kennels was another negative during our stay. We won't return.

Second visit, and enjoyed my time Pike fishing.

Perfect for the angler, who's looking to fish, close to the lodge, and a spacious swim. Owner Richard, makes you feel welcome and nice to have a cuppa and chat.

Previously stayed at same location 5 years ago, it’s a lovely spot and very nice lodge situated on the lake.

Just a couple of things there was no toilet paper in the property on arrival and due to the other lodges also situated around the lake, the smaller lodge on the left was rented by fisherman with tent set up prior to our arrival, although they didn’t disturb us; the opening of their tent that was in use all day and night was facing directly towards the lodge so just didn’t feel we had the privacy we prefer when taking breaks in the uk. Still a lovely lodge though.

Delightful place to stay with a lovely outlook over the lake.

Harling Road station is ⅓ hour walk away, and the cycle from Thetford Station was just one hour. Other (fisher) guests praised the fishing and shared pictures of their amazing catches. The owner/farmer was extremely helpful and spent time tidying the overgrowing trees around the property -- so we had two quite different views. Note that although there is TV etc, there is no wifi. Strongly recommended!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at lakeside.

On arrival we were pleasantly surprised with how quiet it was. The lodge itself was lovely, it is fully equipped with everything that you may need for your stay. The lake itself is really well stocked with some excellent specimens and I was not disappointed. We would definitely like to rebook another visit in the future as it was a welcome break. 5 star recommendation from me.

fished nearly every day with plenty of carp in the 5 to 8 lb lucky to have one 20+ lb, one day only took worm rest of the time on floating bread lovely fish great sport.this lodge is very popular so check out the other three properties on the lake,yes there are kennels near and snetterton circuit so there is some noise but it didn't bother us.very dog friendly with plenty of walks.village has everything you need,hope to get back for a third time.thanks.

Was very comfortable & a nice welcome gift left for us. John came to meet us when we arrived to make sure it was all ok he also popped in before we left to make sure everything was ok for us. I can understand some people might get fed up with the dogs barking at the kennels next door.

Most relaxing holiday.

Lodge was cosy & comfortable. Vews country side & lake was lovely. Everyone were very friendly We just loved our holiday there. Soon as we arrived home we booked to go back next year.

There is no wi-fi, but that didn't matter to us.

It was so peaceful, happy with the all the fish caught. We went end of February, the lake slightly flooded, it didn't affect our stay. We liked enough to book again next year.

It was so lovely when arrived there were fresh flowers, eggs,milk and a lovely cake waiting for us.

Also Robert popped in to meet us,what a lovely interesting man. Can't wait to return.

A quiet and secluded location but well positioned to visiting the local area and attractions.

Lakeside lodge is quite compact but more than comfortable for a short stay. A freezer rather than a washing machine would be a better appliance and more cupboard space to store food would be preferable.

Lovely location.

Position of cabin with a lake view was particularly relaxing and enjoyable. Everything you need for self catering is available in cabin. Walking distance to pubs, restaurants and local shops. There are lots of lovely walks, plus areas to visit by car. Robert, the owner, was ever so helpful and friendly, with milk, cakes and fresh eggs provided as a lovely welcome surprise on arrival. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The fishing was amazing.

The lodge was amazing. The owners could not have been kinder Lovely guy. We were so close to the kennels the dogs were relentless all day barking and howling. Robert the owner said it was the worst week as they had over 50 dogs in. I'm sure he felt a little guilty, but we left a day early we had had enough of the noise. Without the dogs it would have been the perfect retreat.

Just returned home from lakeside lodge what a fantastic week every thing was perfect the lodge itself was very comfy and the fishing was brilliant Robert our host could not been more helpful you know a place is special when a kingfisher lands on your fishing rod if health holds out we shall be back

Just back from a lovely five day break from Lakeside Lodge.

The Lodge is in a great setting overlooking the lake. There are four other holiday lodges set around the lake but they are screened by trees so you cannot see them. Our accommodation was exactly as the photos show, everything was provided that we needed. My partner had a good time fishing whilst I sat on the balcony watching the wildlife. Not far to walk to the local amenities including The Nags Head (tasty meals) fish and chip shop ( crispy batter) and a Coop. Also a local pharmacy.

No problem with Sykes there customer service is always good however not happy with lodge or location.

Was my 3rd time at this location and very disappointed this time. Lodge had not been maintained since last visit fire alarm kept going off at night lake was overgrown and dogs in boarding kennels barked all night. Have booked already for next year but dont want to go back so have contacted sykes to hopefully get deposit moved over to another property.

It was on the lakeside as per the advertisement. advertisement and that fishing fantastic If you go to this location, look out for the kingfishers who perch on a brach really close to the lodge door. You may have to be up early though! We enjoyed our stay very much and would like to go again one day 10 out of 10 holiday. Thank you

Absolutely love it. Owners go above and beyond in order to ensure you enjoy your stay. Fishing is the best, and free. Unfortunately and not for any other reason we may not be able to return. It's a 5 1/2 drive and both our health is deteriating. We would love to return but also its a long drive. You could not wish a better place to relax. Thank you for amazing memories xx

I booked a 2 day break at Lakeside Lodge, to get away from the everyday hustle and bustle, and that was certainly achieved.

A relaxing few days, in an extremely comfortable Lodge, with everything provided that I could need (and some added extra luxuries provided by the host, which were much appreciated). I will definitely recommend Lakeside Lodge and will hopefully be back again soon.

When we arrived it was after dark, but the lodge was ablaze with light and warmth.

The property sits on a lake, which was frozen on our arrival, and was immaculate outside and in. (Welcome gifts of eggs, milk and mince pies were appreciated.) Daybreak gave us a chance to really appreciate the setting - a glorious view over the lake; countryside views; and peaceful (other than the kennels up the drive, occasionally). The other properties round the lake are sighted so as not to be intrusive. Our dog really enjoyed the nearby nature walk (by the river) and the close access to Middle Harling Heath. We really enjoyed our stay and are considering rebooking. Have recommended the lodge to friends too!

Great place, good fishing, just one thing, the listing mentioned a fridge and a freezer, it’s only a fridge with a small feeder compartment, but apart from that was a great restful week and an amazing location Jason

Lovely comfortable cosy lodge, very well equipped kitchen and such a lovely comfy bed, quiet site, with no light pollution so star gazing is great as is the fishing, village just a short stroll away with two great pubs, would recommend this property.

A beautiful lodge with everything you need set in a lovely and peaceful setting, my husband enjoyed the fishing and I enjoyed the walks with our dog, the owner was was very welcoming and we enjoyed the cake that was left for us we would love to return next year.

Lovely setting and having fishing on the doorstep was a real luxury.

The lodges around the lake (4) are cleverly positioned so it still feels private and secluded, and the wildlife was fantastic. Other reviews have mentioned the kennels and the racetrack. Neither really bothered us and certainly didn't spoil the holiday. Could hardly hear the racetrack and it was only one day, and the dogs are far enough off that it was just background noise that you don't notice after a while. Suggest parasol is supplied, but otherwise it is well equipped. Wifi would be good but it didn't cause us any problems not having it. Lots to do locally - particularly recommend Bressingham and Banham Zoo.

2nd stay at this lodge and will be booking soon to go back again next year.

Love the quietness of the location. Fishing lake is just a few steps from the cabin perfect as my hubby is disabled with poor mobility. I can watch him from the deck of the cabin. Only a handful of cabins around the lake which is plentiful of fish some a good size. Lake fenced completely around ideal for dogs. Cabin well fitted out and comfortable. Owners very friendly. View from cabin of lake and wildlife lovely.

Views wonderful. Lovely touch, milk, eggs and cake in fridge. Robert the owner came to see we were OK. Nice to have a washer and dryer outside. Loved it!

Pros: compact and comfortable.

Nice location over the lake with lovely deck. Good base to explore Norfolk from and cracking dog walks in nearby Thetford forest. Cons: kennel about 200 yards away with fairly constant barking during the day, sometimes at night as well. Wi-fi would be great as well.

An idyllic location and a lovely lodge, so comfortable and clean with everything you could need.

We have had the perfect holiday here. The lovely owner and son were so friendly and helpful especially with the fishing ( which is allowed in the close season) Lots to see within an hours drive and the Nags Head in the village gave a good alternative to eating our evening meal sitting on the balcony in the sunshine! I could go on, Great week.

The general condition of the property was good, however there was a lack of cooking equipment and utentials.

The brochure does not mention the noise from Snetterton race track, nor the fact that most of the week you cant walk in the woods due to the fact that they are used by a school project. There are also times when the boarding kennels are quite noisy. This information would be usefull when selecting this property as it is not as tranquil as stated.. The owners are all very friendly and did appologise for the farm requirement to cut down a large number of trees and shrubs with chain saws (quite noisy) but we were out for part of the days when this was happening..all in all we had a good break and I did get a photograph of the Kingfisher.

A really lovely lodge with all the amenities you will need.

A very comfortable place to stay. The setting is absolutely great looking out over the small lake and to the countryside beyond. It was extremely relaxing and we had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The owner was very friendly and leaving milk, eggs and cupcakes was a thoughtful touch. It is in a good location in walking distance of the village and within driving distance of many attractions. We would not hesitate to recommend this charming property. Thanks so much.

We booked in 2020 because the unit was the only one on a small lake and looked ideal for a quiet / secluded getaway.

Four additional units are now around the lake and one of these appears to be permanently occupied by a family with dog. The Sykes listing requires updating. Having said this, the unit itself was very comfortable and met our needs during our stay albeit the oven was/is in need of a thorough clean and there is no extractor above the cooker.

Best cabin we have stayed in. 5 stars for excellent cleaness, equipment, amazing location and views, value for money and owners helpfulness. Would highly recommend especially if you want to spend some days just chilling. Lovely walks in the woods from the cabin. Would definitely stay again x

A really special place to stay.

The wild life is wonderful including kingfishers. Watching the fish in the lake is so relaxing. A brilliant place to get away from it all.

This is a lovely lodge in very peaceful surroundings.

Is is equipped to a high standard and everything is spotlessly clean. Robert the owner made me feel very welcome, and the milk, eggs and chocolate cake in the fridge were a very nice touch. It is certainly very high on my list of places to revisit. My small dog would probably echo these sentiments too!

Yes the bed was too hard, had trouble sleeping.

The location of the lodge was beautiful wildlife on your doorstep including a daily visit of kingfisher & family of ducks to name a few.

The cottage was well serviced with equipment, bed linen & towel. Unfortunately there are dog kennels situated near by & we could hear them barking on & off. We spoke to the owners & they said they are in the process of of trying to sort it. Fortunately for us it did not spoil our enjoyment

Perfect for hubby who is disabled and loves his fishing.

Just a few steps walk from the cabin to the riverbank to fish. Lake had some good sized fish in it. Hubby caught a 20lb+ carp and some good sized tench. Very safe for dogs as lake is completely fenced in with only 5 cabins sharing it. Cabin was very comfortable. Would have liked a hot tub most other cabins on site have one but choose this one for the short walk to the Riverbank for hubby which was more important for us. Owners very welcoming and friendly.

Lakeside Lodge was simply a perfect location, so peaceful and quiet, perfect for a restful getaway.

The only criticism we had was that there was no chest of drawers in the bedroom to store flat items like jumpers or underwear, etc. The wardrobe literally had hanging space only, no shelf or drawer space. Other than that, it was just so perfect. It was clean as a new pin, equipped with everything you could need in the kitchen area and the location was superb. Lots of dog walks on the doorstep, the village had pubs, shops, chemist and a great fish and chip shop too! We will book again in the summer or early autumn so we can sit on the balcony overlooking the lake to enjoy a glass or two of wine while watching the sun go down!

this little gem is a home from home.

it was clean and comfy. Robert came to see us on the first night and was helpful with any questions we had. The locals are friendly and all of them loved our dog. I do wish I had taken my fishing gear the lake looked very appealing. we will be going back.

Wonderful location for relaxing away from stressful lives.

It was a Jewell in the crown for norfolk.

Beautiful location with the owners taking great care to ensure everything possible is provided.

The lake was very shallow in front of the lodge so not much good for fishing, unless you ask and the owner will tell exactly we're the fish congregate at the area cleared last year. Fishing the deeper water I caught some beautiful golden Rudd and some sizeable roach. The web site and Sykes listing say the owner also has kennels on the adjoining site. Remember dogs bark and lots of dogs together bark a lot!

The cottage was lovely and the view from the veranda amazing.

It was nice to have a decent sized TV and a comfy sofa. To be even better, would be to provide a king sized bed. I think double beds are too small these days and not what one expects any more. The only other point might be that perhaps it would be fair to mention somewhere that there is a boarding kennel on the site and the noise of dogs barking is frequent. For some people, that would be a deal breaker and spoil the peace and quiet.

Lovely peaceful location and a fully equipted lodge .

Well kept grounds with attention to the needs of wildlife and the environment. Fishing literally on the doorstep with loads of tiddlers but the big ones are there to be caught with a variety of species. On a warm summer evening with a glass of wine on the veranda this lodge is idyllic. Thanks to Robert and his family for their efforts to make our stay as comfortable as it was. Definitely recommended, we hope to return sometime in the future.

what more can i say one of the best lodges i have stayed in absolutely stunning views & very private but not far from local villages the hosts robert & janet were first class they even invited me & my wife into there home for afternoon glasses of wine .

on our arrival they had placed flowers a bottle of proseco a cake and a card with it being our wedding anniversary couldnt thank them enough just a pity about the weather b ut still enjoyed our stay would strongly recommend this lodge & would love to go back thankyou robert & janet for a lovely weeks holiday

Our accommodation was very clean full of character.

The location was idilic set along a small lake.The couple who run the estate were very helpful, full of information about the area.

The lodge was in a beautiful location over looking a lake.

We watched the goslings and ducklings with their parents while we enjoyed a glass of wine in the evenings. The walks through the woods were lovely too. Our stay here was really relaxing and we intend to visit again. Although you felt a way from the rest of the world, it was in fact only a ten minute walk to local shops, pubs and amenities. Recommend.

It was just as imagined thanks to an accurate description.

I was a little concerned about two more lodges reported nearby, but they were a good distance away and cleverly largely obscured by vegetation, so the privacy and peace were preserved. I hope more don't interfere with the main attraction (for us) of birds living on the lake, which has a very calming effect for a lovely lazy watch-the-world-go-by break from city life. In short, I great peaceful place and rebooked pronto.

The owners were very welcoming in person and being on site was an advantage.

Everything you could need was at the lodge, however there was no hairdryer.

The location was idyllic, the wildlife was fascinating. There were another 2 lodges around the lake but no one disturbed anyonelse. If you like fishing, check it is the correct time to fish. Between March and June is not allowed. Apparently there was a hot tub and pool, but no directions where to find this, and we didn't want to knock on the farmhouse door to find out. The heated panels were a bit hit and miss, we reckon they were on a timer. Although basically clean, it did need a Hoover down the sides of the sofa and the lampshade, but this did not stop us having a lovely relaxing week.

Local village has all the shops/pubs you need. Did fish the lake however as works in progress would like to return & fish in the summer.

A relaxing idyllic winter break on a Norfolk Farm.

It was a birthday break for my lovely lady very peaceful relaxing and the little lodge was very lovely and cozy

It's lovely place to unwind there no Internet or phone but great for a break technology and get back to nature watch birds flying on to pool.

The village is just up lane so can get most things you need.

What a gem!

Peaceful and chilled week at this amazing lodge. Well placed for many areas to visit but equally it is a place to just sit on the decking looking over the lake and just chill.

I have stayed in several Sykes properties before, all have been excellent.

We will definitely be renting from you again.

We enjoyed the holiday very much there was every thing we needed for our stay Mr Green came and introduced himself which was a nice touch .

It was a pity about the fishing because the lake had gone down well over 21/2ft caught a load of nice rRudd and Roach and a massive Eel that came unhooked in the landing net lucky ha ha ( i don't like them much) but I'm sure after a few good showers it will be soon back to normal and the larger fish can be had we will certainly be back for another go thanks. What a beautiful setting, lovely lake and surrounding area, the wildlife was amazing, kingfisher wanting to share our balcony.

Considering we were next to the water I was surprised how few flies and bugs there were. The lodge is of a very high standard with good quality fixtures and fittings, it is the only holiday let I have been too over several years that I haven't felt the need to clean the crockery and cutlery before use. It was immaculate, the bed was very comfy . There was an extremely well equipped kitchen, with some complimentary supplies, there was even a bag of ice in the freezer which was greatly appreciated as it was the hottest week of the year so far. We were very impressed with the Farm, found the fishing a little disappointing as the lake needs some attention which we know the owners have in hand and is a work in progress. We have already discussed a return visit next year, we were made very welcome by all the family and look forward to returning to Lakeside Lodge. Julie & Barry 23rd to 30th June 2018

It was peaceful and the view from the Lodge was wonderful.

Easy access to main roads yet you felt like you were miles from anywhere. Fantastic place to stay. Just two things we would take with us next time is a tea pot and a shower mat. Other that that perfect.

It’s mentioned in the broucher there are eating places in the village,lm sorry to say that’s not quite true,as the George& Dragon is now closed ,the fish & chip shop is there but the nearest pub with food is the Angel at larking ,about 2mile away.

Apart from that the Lodge was really lovely,quite and peaceful, and the owner was very helpful, the fishing was very good but hard to catch the big ones.

Lovely lodge with a great outlook very well appointed.

The people were very friendly. We want to go again.

very nice place seems it is a bit of project all trees around lake have been removed and it is not like picture now, also new shephards hut been put in and they are also building new 2 bedroom lodge !

with the fact they also have another 4 person lodge as well, it will not be so quite and would be to many people. they have also put £10 a day charge for fishing.

it was very modern internally and very warm and cosy brilliant for a couple or solo traveller,very peaceful,quiet setting,an ideal escape ,in which to hear yourself think, 10 out of 10

It's was a very good holiday lodge warm, clear and cosy a great place to get away.

Only 5 minutes away from village. Look forward to booking again in spring to see all the birds on lake and may be glass of wine on decking.

Amazing setting and if you like wildlife this is the perfect place, only here for 3 nts wished we could had stayed longer, so peaceful and totally chilled out.
