Owls Retreat, Lodge 11

Unfortunately this property lacked maintenance in that when we arrived several lamps had dead or no bulbs in, the showerhead in the en-suite bathroom was clogged so badly that the water 'screamed' while you were showering.

The extractor fan and underfloor heating did not work in this bathroom and there were switches taped up outside the door. The door to the family bathroom would not open properly because it dragged on the floor so badly that you had to force your way in. Generally the lodge was very nice, very spacious, comfortable and well equipped and in a lovely location. The cleaning cupboard could do with a dustpan and brush and it would have been nice if the vacuum cleaner wasn't filled to capacity when we arrived. Just another minor irritation was that there were Three clocks in the lodge, all with dead batteries.

When we arrived we found all the electric was off, the fridge and freezer were warm (luckily we’d not shopped on the way). After reading the manual we checked the fuse box inside the lodge but all was good there and then we realised we’d have to go outside to the main fuse box and found the switch had been tripped. After turning back on we had electricity. I don’t think this was something that had gone off that morning and feel the ledge should be checked on the day of a new arrival. Also, light bulbs need to be checked as some did not work. The lane leading to the lodges needs attention due to potholes which are unavoidable. The ledge has everything you could need for a holiday and we enjoyed our time here and would stay again.

Fabulous accommodation in a tranquil setting.

What a beautiful lodge , absolutely stunning.

We enjoyed our stay very relaxing. Couldn’t really walk anywhere as everywhere was to far away. We went on a few drives into town and Lowestoft which was nice The only downside I would say is the tvs could do with and update and there was quite a few cobwebs with spiders in them , look like they had been there a while (I hate spiders) Other then that it was beautiful

A lovely large lodge , but second bedroom quite small , plenty of crockery etc .

A very quiet area we could hear the deer calling at night . A long rough driveway which needs some attention lots of pot holes definitely need a car . Aldeburgh is a beautiful seaside resort.

We had the most wonderful stay from start to finish.

Even being a dog owner myself I do always worry with the cleanliness of a place that is dog friendly but it was really well maintained. We had all the family stay the kitchen was well equipped for any meal to be prepared. We had great weather whilst it was so peaceful and quiet to sit outside. The Only downside is you lose the sun on the decking by 4pm. Other than that the stay was perfect! We would love to come back. Many thanks to the hosts. CW

The property on first inspection was outstanding but once in the amount of cobwebs and hair on the floor unreal it took me six times emptying the hoover.

..furniture never moved pulled beds out disgusting the cleaner needs retrained for sure especially the money you pay to stay there....!! The hoover was left full of dirt....so disgusting really was the cobwebs hanging from the on suite toilet....!! So disappointing. It was such a lovely setting too and Aldeburgh was lovely the people too. Also no shower mats or grab rails for the elderly which I think is a must these days as we had a 90 yr old with us also bought batteries as no clocks working also the handbook was handed in the day we left very poor I would say. But on saying after I cleaned up we had a lovely holiday once we got over the initial problems and it was such a nice lodge too but could be presented in a much better light with some thought. Plus the ant box in the large ensuite room was a bit off-putting...... I left some nice flowers so I hope someone enjoyed them.

We assumed being dog friendly, we would find at least 1 dog waste bin.

Not the case, had to go in our general waste. Also on the subject of waste, we had no way of getting our rubbish to main gate until we got picked up on day of departure as we got a lift to and from lodge. Consequently we had a weeks worth of rubbish accumulated. Would also of liked to have seen somewhere to walk the dog apart from round the lodges and down track. We can't walk far as in our 80's, but to be able to get in the wooded area would have been nice. A few issues in the lodge, rodent droppings, electrics, kitchen tap came off but on the whole it was a very comfortable stay. A few more instructions left in lodge would have been good too, concerning waste and departure. Rang a taxi to go into aldeburgh but £45 each way for a 2.1 mile trip, was a bit extravagant!

What a wonderful place to stay.

If far exceeded our expectations. Everything was spotlessly clean and it had every item that you could think of. Absolutely wonderful.
