“Stayed here for our final week, after touring Scotland for a month back in January.”

This was our favourite of the 4 accommodations we stayed at. This was a true back to nature getaway located deep in a forest. Great for watching wildlife. The excellent hosts are on hand next door should you need them, giving us great advice on what to do and where to go. Special mention to their very friendly dog. If you love peace and quiet surrounded by nature and views, this is totally recommended.

“What an amazing place.”

The Chalet is in the most beautiful place, in the forest, but not far from amenities. Lovely walks close by. The owners Kevin & Sharon were always pleasant and Kevin was especially knowledgeable about the area, and guided us to some amazing walks along the locks. The Chalet was immaculate, had everything you needed and more. Some nice little touches on arrival, a welcome array of drinks & gorgeous biscuits, even treats for our two pooches. The wildlife was stunning, we had Red Squirrels every morning, wild birds, even a woodpecker on several of our days there. The property exceeded our expectations, and this is due to the care & detail that the owners have put into making this the perfect getaway. We cannot wait to return, subject to finding a vacant week. I can understand why this chalet is fully booked for the near future and beyond. Thank you for making our stay magical. I know I didn't want to leave. Say Hi to "Alfie". He is just the most adorable pet of the owners

“Just what we were looking for…what a location amongst the trees, quiet and relaxing.”

The chalet was warm and snug. Very well appointed…our dogs were made most welcome by the friendly owners! So much to do in the surrounding area..beautiful walks and bikes rides. Owner has lots of feeders so we were privileged to watch red squirrels and birds feeding throughout the week. Highly recommended…we would certainly return!

“Absolutely wonderful.”

Very peaceful rural location with fabulous wildlife all around. I was enchanted by visits from the red squirrels & even a pine marten on the feeders in broad daylight. There were lots of walks from the door, including the mystical Uath lochans; also convenient for Loch Insch, Rothiemurchus, Glenmore & Abernethy forests & moountains. The chalet was spotless, comfortable & well appointed. The owners have taken great trouble to provide everything you might need & are very hospitable without being intrusive. “Fantastic week’s stay at this very comfortable chalet in the woods.”

We were made to feel at home and the owners, Sharon and Kevin, went out of their way to accommodate us and our nervous dog. There’s great woodland walks on the doorstep with wonderful views that should not be missed. A short walk leads to a few lochans which are beautiful. Relaxation is easy as the chalet is comfortable, clean and fresh, and well appointed with a TV, books, jig saws and games. The veranda has easy chairs to sit and admire the lovely garden surrounded by woodland views and wildlife, or just read a book with a cuppa. Our only disappointment was that we hadn’t booked to stay longer, however I’m sure we’ll be back. Overall, brilliant.

“We absolutely loved our stay.”

We love the outdoors so the woodland location was perfect for us and our dog. The chalet felt very homely and had everything we needed. We loved watching the birds and the squirrels. The hosts were lovely and helpful. There is lots to do and see in the area, we loved being able to get out for a trail run/walk straight from the door, so many lovely trails. We will definitely be trying to get back in the future.

“Torbreck Chalet, set in beautiful woodland is an idyllic, relaxing place to stay.”

We've stayed in a few places over the last couple of years which have proved to be disappointing in one way or another, but Torbreck Chalet was definitely the exception. Very clean, cosy and warm. All appliances worked, and there was plenty of piping hot water for showering. Kevin and Sharon are very friendly hosts. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again in the future.

“A winter wonderland.”

The chalet is situated in private woodlands, and is a delight to stay in: warm, cosy, quiet and very well equipped. The owner goes to great pains to ensure your stay is as pleasant as possible, including topping up the bird feeders that directly outside the kitchen everyday - we saw so many different types of birds, together with red squirrels and pine Martens. Walks direct from the Chalet are a joy for people who love woodland walks and quiet lochans, and the Insh Activity Centre is just down the road where they serve an amazing Sunday Roast. A real gem of a place to stay.

“Well where do I begin.”

We had a week at the chalet and we can only describe it as absolute bliss. The location is absolutely perfect if you love peace and quiet. A location near enough to access Aviemore and all the other fabulous places nearby but nicely tucked away. The chalet itself has everything you could ask for and we were toasty warm in there. We were lucky to have alot of snow which made it feel as though we had stepped into Narnia. I only hope that many other people get to experience this little piece of heaven and we have already booked for next year. Also thanks to Kevin the owner who helped us get our car up the lane when the snow came. All good fun. Oh and not to forget the handsome Alfie who our dog Ned was always on the lookout for. Can't wait to return x

A warm welcome when arrived late. Kevin was always on hand if needed. Great seeing red squirrels playing right outside the kitchen window, numerous birds and deer. Ideally positioned for walks from the cottage without the car. Cottage was very well insulated and hardly any need for heating. If you want a comfortable cottage for two and a dog, near wildlife and silence, you cannot go wrong.

The location is excellent and with so many trails and wildlife on your doorstep it’s a dream. Red squirrels from the kitchen window and badgers from the back door what more could you ask for?! “This lodge was probably the best equipped property we have stayed in.”

Beautiful position, ideal for relaxing and walking in the forest. We enjoyed all the birds on the feeders and the antics of the red squirrels kept us amused. It is in a good position for exploring the area with the added bonus of the welcoming owners. We had to leave early due to medical reasons but we will certainly return in the near future. “A wonderful haven of tranquility & wildlife in the forest.”

It restores the soul. There are wonderful walks from the door- Uath lochans are close by with amazing wildlife & scenery. I was entranced by the reflection of falling snow on the mirror calm lochan. Red squirrels visit daily, roe deer seen & many birds on the feeders were a source of delight. The owners have gone to alot of trouble to make you feel welcome & comfortable in the property. Spotlessly clean & well maintained. I struggled to park my hire car in the parking bay but Kevin suggested an alternative to spare my blushes!

The owners were very helpful during the stay and had gone to a lot of trouble to decorate the property with Christmas in mind; lots of lovely touches. The property has everything you need for a self-catering week away, as suggested by previous reviews. Although the weather was not particularly good, there is plenty to do in the area. We had booked specifically to see snow on the high tops, and were not disappointed. The chalet was warm and comfortable despite the chill and rain/sleet outside. “We had a wonderful week at Torbreck Chalet.”

I had read all the great reviews and had high hopes - we weren’t disappointed. One of the best self catering places we have stayed in, and we’ve been lucky to stay in many over the years. The owners are friendly and welcoming, and as others have said, there if needed, but never intrusive. The chalet was clean, well equipped, super warm, dog friendly, with treats, blanket, towel etc provided for our little dog too. We cooked in the chalet most days (well equipped kitchen and a dishwasher) and we spent a lot of time in the warm cosy lounge resting and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. We saw many bird species, a gorgeous red squirrel outside the kitchen window each morning and we even spied the Pine Marten too. There are lots of lovely walks straight from the chalet door, it is so peaceful and calming. We were very sad to leave, as was our little dog, but we plan to return again and explore more of the area and enjoy the chalet once again. A truly memorable and relaxing break and we would highly recommend this accommodation and area to anyone.

“A delightful property set within a pine wood setting.”

We found Torbreck to be both warm and comfortable, perfect for two travellers who enjoyed the daily spectacle of red squirrels and other wildlife just outside the kitchen window. Lovely walks from the back door into the surrounding countryside were we spied both red deer and crested tits. A delightful spot with helpful owners close by for tips on places to visit off the tourist track etc. A very pleasant week.

“What a great chalet in the most beautiful setting.”

After a warm welcome from Kevin, we entered Torbrek Chalet and found it to be clean, tidy and well equipped. The property is in the perfect setting with easy access to paths in and around the Utah Lochans and Glen Feshie. We enjoyed daily walks, long trail runs and bikes rides, most of which were done directly from the chalet door. It was a joy to watch the red squirrels, woodpeckers and various other birds feeding directly outside the chalet. We made good use of the local Loch Insh to paddle board, sail and eat. A must visit is The Old Post Office cafe in Kincraig; the food was amazing and Ann and her staff are wonderful-this is a short three mile walk (one way) from Torbrek. Torbrek Chalet was super comfortable and had all the facilities we needed. The WIFI (for those interested) was really quick and supported multiple devices. The location is lovely, and it is possible to walk for miles without needing to use the car; we saw red squirrels from the kitchen window every day. The location was perfect for a quiet, get-away-from-it-all holiday. There were walks from the door through the forest to the beautiful Uath Lochans, as well as short drives to the well-known Cairngorm landmarks. The woods around the chalet were rich in wildlife, with red squirrels, roe deer and many bird species coming right up to the chalet. “We had an absolutely wonderful holiday at Torbreck chalet, probably one of the best we've ever had!”

The chalet is perfect: warm, cosy and spotlessly clean. The owners include some welcome supplies for dogs as well as humans which was really sweet and very much appreciated. Thankfully we had wonderful weather so didn't need the towels or blankets for our dog, but Tate very much enjoyed the dog treats! The bed and settee were extremely comfy and the kitchen is equipped with everything you could need. We actually stayed in and cooked every night and it was wonderful to relax in such a peaceful, quiet space every evening. The location is brilliant, you feel as though you are in the middle of the wilderness tucked away in the forest and we never saw people walking past on the walking/cycle route, but it's very close to amenities if you need to grab something from the shops or want to pop out for some food. There are lots of cafes and pubs recommended nearby in the very helpful guide in the chalet, which also includes lots of local info and manuals for things in the chalet (no faffing about trying to work out appliances)! We saw loads of lovely wildlife right outside the chalet including a roe deer. We enjoyed watching the bird feeders every day and seeing the antics of red sequirrels who were usually there most of the day, as well as countless species of birds, all right from our window. The chalet is very close to loads of beautiful walks. We only drove to go to a couple of places, and each time for less than 20 minutes. We visited Aviemore, Cairn Gorm, Loch Einich and Loch Insh reserve. We can only do 4 or 5 miles at a time (our dog only has 3 legs!) so if you want to walk further you can easily not have to drive at all while you're there. It was very quiet at all the places we visited and everywhere seems very clean and looked after too. By far our favourite walks were around the Uath Lochans right from the door of the chalet. The scenery is just stunning - in fact, of all the places we went that week, the lochans were the most beautiful spot for us to get engaged! We had the most perfect week and really can't recommend the chalet enough. We look forward to visiting again in the future :) thank you for such a brilliant holiday! Richard, Gracie and Tate xxx

Nestled away in what feels like a private woodlands, this property has everything you need to have a wonderful time in the Cairngorms. There are woodland walks from the doorstep and some well placed bird feeders, one of my favourite experiences was making a pot of tea, sitting on the balcony with a book surrounded by birds! The owners were lovely, we had some issues with smoke detectors during our stay but they were so very helpful and did everything they could to rectify the issue in a timely manner. The accommodation has been well thought out, the furnishings were to a high standard with some beautifully thoughtful additions - the biscuits were appreciated both by the pooch and ourselves! We will definitely be booking again in the future.

“This is a really fantastic cottage to stay in and visit the Cairngorms.”

There was excellent communication by the hosts and the house was very clean, spacious and cosy. There's a balcony where you can just sit and relax listening to the birds outside. The hosts very kindly placed several bird feeders around the house, so you always have an activity of small birds visiting, as well as red squirrels and we even saw a pine marten. The location is excellent, the house is set in the middle of a forest, so quiet and peaceful. You can just step out of the house and go for a walk around the Uath Lochans, or even walk down to Lock Insh and have swim. By car, you can quickly reach other iconic walks, such as Loch Morlich, Loch an Eilein, Sgor Gaoith or visit the Highlands Folk Museum in Newtonmore (highly recommended!).

Everything you need is provided, from maps to dog bowls, and whilst the property's completely clean and comfortable, it's not so pristine that you feel awkward coming back with muddy boots and damp coats. It's walkable to Loch Insh and Kincraig, and access to Aviemore and the Cairngorms is easy with a car, but there are several days' worth of exploration in the forest itself before you even need to drive. We're definitely hoping to get back and explore some more from Torbreck!

The chalet is warm and cosy as well as spotlessly clean and really well-equipped. It's a short drive from Kingussie or Aviemore but feels as if it's in the middle of nowhere, which was just what we wanted. We loved watching the birds and red squirrels with our morning coffee before heading out for walks with our dog; there are stunning walks on the doorstep and a beautiful loch just 10 minutes stroll away. The owners live next door and while leaving us to our own devices most of the time, gave us some great suggestions for places to visit as well as eat and drink. We particularly loved The Old Bridge pub in Aviemore which is dog-friendly. We can't recommend Torbreck Chalet highly enough.

The chalet is even better than we ever imagined, secluded in the most amazing woods next to 3 amazing lochans (and Loch Insh), although only 15 minutes from Aviemore which has a good array of things to do (bars, shops, restaurants). “Lovely quiet location in the woods, with red squirrels feeding outside the kitchen window.”

Owners friendly and helpful but unobtrusive. The chalet is generally well equipped, although missing a few kitchen items perhaps. The heated entrance porch was handy for drying boots and coats, also for cleaning dogs before entering the main room. Plenty of room for two people, although the bed is a standard double, not as large as we are used to.

“After our week in torbreck chalet we will definitely be booking again.”

The chalet has everything you need to make your stay comfortable. Absolutely spotless upon arrival. It's set in a forest which is very quiet apart from the wildlife. The chalet is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the surroundings and many trails. We walked a different trail everyday and have some brilliant photos of the landscapes and wildlife. The red squirrels on a morning are a joy to watch. We saw roe deer on many of our walks, as well as one approaching the chalet. If you enjoy walking,hiking, and photography like us, then the chalet is set in the ideal place. Although we didn't see much of the owners. The few occasions we did, they where very polite and asked about our stay. We could not fault anything. Highly recommend.

“We had a wonderful week in the Torbreck Chalet.”

Everything has been well thought out and it was clean and comfortable. The owners were very friendly and welcoming, leaving us shortbread, iron bru and milk. The area is fabulous and we loved the fact we could walk out from the chalet to the Lochs and follow marked trails with amazing views. The chalet is well equipped for cooking meals, which was useful, as to go out to eat you have to drive (unless you like walking pre dinner and afterwards) and due to the current COVID situation places were booked up quite a long way in advance. However, we liked nothing better than sitting on the balcony with drinks before dinner and watching the squirrels, one evening a deer came wandering through too. So all in all, a great place to be. If you want to take part in any adventure activities do book in advance as it gets very busy. I did the Zip Trek adventure on the Alvie estate and it was great value for money. Thanks Kevin and Sharon for a great week.

“Me and my partner visited Torbreck Chalet for a week, we had an amazing time, it really is a place of tranquility and is close to nature.”

The chalet had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, bed was comfortable and bathroom was lovely with a nice bath after a good walk was nice to relax and unwind. Kitchen was also fully equipped and also had great views of the red squirrels! We were greeted my kevin and his friendly dog Alfie, we also got shortbread and iron bru in the chalet. The chalet is close to many walking and cycle trails, uath lochan is a fantastic local walk which you can start from the chalet, the red trail will take you higher up and you can get a fantastic view of the surrounding area the white trail will take you round the lochs. Kevin and Sharon will give you information if you need it and tell you good places to eat and other walking trails. It is also close by to aviemore with plenty to do and see, I would recommend loch morlich short drive away as it has a sandy beach and beautiful walks. All in all we think this place is fantastic, we could not fault it, whether you want peace and quiet and space to relax or you want to do plenty walking or cycling this place is definitely where you want to be. Alot of credit to Kevin and Sharon, wonderful people and a beautiful chalet. Thanks so much. Becky & Bradley.

“Excellent self catering lodge.”

A very well equipped lodge, very clean and very cosy. We really enjoyed our stay and the doggy welcome pack was lovely. The lodge is located off the beaten track which is perfect, lots of walks in the local woods and within easy driving distance of Aviemore and the Cairngorms. We will definitely be back.

“Absolutely gorgeous comfy and cosy Chalet with amazing surroundings.”

Loved our week here, lovely clean Chalet, with plenty of facilities including a deep bath to relax in after a day of exploring the Lochs and Forest routes with some lovely views from the balcony and lots of Red Squirrel sightings which absolutely made my day! The owners were so friendly, and helpful and really have something quite special here. Alfie the Chocolate Lab was a particular favourite of mine, and the added extras left for my dog whilst we stayed were more than appreciated. Aviemore is a short drive away too with plenty of shops to facilitate an adventure holiday with a decent size Tesco for everything you might need for a self catering break. Would absolutely love to return.

“Absolutely loved the chalet itself: really cosy and comfortable, spacious and nice decor.”

The surroundings are fantastic too, down a single forest track and nestled in Inshriach Forest, full of red squirrels and birds aplenty and the stunning Uath Lochans. Kevin and Sharon, the owners, were super friendly and welcoming and left us to enjoy the chalet as if it were ours. It's also within easy reach (30mins) of the Cairn Gorm ski area and the northern entrance to the Cairngorm mountains, as well as Rothiemurcus and Glenmore forests - we were spoilt for choice! A perfect chalet to enjoy the perfectly wild Cairngorms.

There are many amazing walks right from the door and in the surrounding area. We were lucky to have a couple of clear nights watching the stars from the balcony. There was plenty of wildlife to entertain us too, especially red squirrels and a Greater Spotted Woodpecker. Kevin and Sharon were friendly and helpful and we hope to return.

“Just had a fantastic week at Torbreck Chalet, the Chalet was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and well equipped, despite being minimal due to Covid rules we had everything we could possibly have needed.”

The location is perfect for walking we covered over 80 miles in the week and over 60 of those were right from the doorstep. With tracks and trails through the extensive forest including parts of the long distance Speyside and Badenoch ways there was no need to use the car to explore this stunning area. The owners Kevin and Sharon are very friendly and if we had needed anything we know it wouldn't have been a problem to just knock on their door. We will definitely be staying here again.

“The cottage is in such a lovely setting with lots of nature on your door step.”

We saw wood peckers and red squirrels from the kitchen window. Our hosts were wecoming and there was a doggy welcome pack for our lab. It is off the beaten track and all the better for it. would recommend the walk through the woods to the mini lochs which are in a lovely setting. Would have no hesitation booking again.
